Thank goodness that Trump was able to post the bond in the E. Jean Carroll case, so he can now appeal. Those two NY judgments are a total travesty of justice. I have been worried about him being able to secure a bond, especially for the larger case.

Yes. That $550mm one is a nightmare. It’s very risky for the bonding agent, despite Trump being a billionaire. There are a lot of concerns, mainly liquidity, the hostility of New York, the fact that the person in question is the potential next president. It’s not a straightforward transaction, which is why he was asking for more time. And that nonsense where he couldn’t borrow from a New York lender made it even more complicated. I believe the appeals court did put a stay on that.
He’s negotiating. There are ample lenders outside NY who value hard assets, which make up the lions share of his net worth.
The ask for time was standard and very likely tied to the piles of money he’ll make taking the Truth Social public.
I understand that, but I’m not referring to him getting financing. I’m talking about the issuance of the actual bond. It’s a considerable risk for the bonding company that’s involved. Nice premium on it, but the pool is much smaller on a bond that size.

That was certainly the case moments ago when the BLS reported that in February a whopping 275K jobs were added, smashing both the median estimate of 200K and the whisper number of 215L. In fact, just one Wall Street forecaster – Seiji Katsurahata at Dai-Ichi – had a higher forecast at 286K.
And while February was a strong print, it’s just a placeholder until next month’s downward revision: that’s because January’s blowout 353K print was revised sharply lower to just 229K, down by a whopping 35%.

I’m conflicted because of the First Amendment, but I have the anecdotal evidence with my older grandkids. Any child is going to become aloof to family around 12 or 13, but if they have a phone it’s way earlier. I’d like to see the options available to children in CHY-NA.
I don’t think the First Amendment applies to a foreign country that hates us.
From what I have read, Chy-na gives American kids trash on Tik Tok. They give Chy-nese kids math and other things that will improve their minds. I even know couple of adults who spend lots of time on Tik Tok. Oh, please!

As a an aside – I would have thought Rand Paul , of all the people in the Senate , would have voted to allow PDJT to have recess appointments – You Only needed ONE [1] Senator to call for an adjournment/hence allow recess appointments…
It bothers me because Rand Paul so often praises PDJT policies , like here , but he didn’t step up and failed to take real effective action when it could have made a difference . Nobody bucked the old crow for that whole term – I guess a few possible reasons , more like excuses – but who knows ?

Senior Fellow Alex Pollock drew my attention to an important quotation by Smedley Butler:
1935 speech and later a book by Major General Smedley D. Butler (USMC), includes “… A racket is best described, I believe, something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small “inside” group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make large fortunes. … If we put them to work making poison gas and more and more fiendish mechanical and explosive instruments of destructions, they will have no time for the constructive job of building a greater prosperity for all peoples. By putting them to this useful job, we can all make more money out of peace than we can out of war – even the munition makers. So … I say, TO HELL WITH WAR.”
It is notable that very little has changed over the past century in terms of how regimes rationalize war. It was during the First World War that the term “merchants of death” first gained widespread use, and it was also during that war that the American regime also spoke often in terms of munitions spending as a benefit of war. Finally, there is the fact that war spending simply is not “good for the economy.” This is an old well-worn myth, but is based on nothing. Consider the process: war spending (especially spending on weapons) requires taxing productive Americans and then turning their taxpayer money into devices that will be consumed in war. Had the taxpayers been allowed to spend this money, much of that money would have been spent on things like education, capital goods, saving, and investment. Instead, that money is taxed, and then, after the bureaucrats take their cut, it is transformed into artillery shells, etc. that blow up some stuff in Ukraine for no benefit to Americans. To imagine that this is a boon for Americans requires the most out-of-touch beltway type of thinking imaginable.

More than one hundred years ago the great French economist, Frederic Bastiat, wrote his classic essay, “What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen in Political Economy!”1 Can such an essay, written in a different time and a different land, have something to say to today’s Americans? It certainly can!
Bastiat pointed out, in brilliant fashion, the universal truth that you can’t get something for nothing. To most people this seems perfectly obvious. Yet many of these same people forget all about this “obvious fact” when the conversation turns to economics!
They say: “Look at all the good that government spending does. Look at these fine public works. Consider, if you will, the many jobs these public works create. Surely you wouldn’t suggest that government spending be reduced when so many jobs depend on it.”
The concrete results of government spending are what is seen. What is not seen is what would have happened to the taxpayers’ money if it hadn’t gone for taxes. “What would have happened?”
The money would have been spent or saved. If it had been spent then it would have created jobs in the private sector just as jobs were created in the public sector, except that people would have been spending their money on what they wanted.
If it had been saved then, directly or indirectly, it would have been invested and turned into factories, machines, and tools. That is, the money would have been converted into capital goods that create jobs for millions of workers.
“Then government spending really doesn’t increase employment?” That’s right. Jobs created by government spending are what is seen. However, they are only one side of the coin. The other side is the jobs that would have been created by private spending and investment if taxes weren’t so high. These jobs that government spending destroyed are what is not seen.
“But what about the public works that government spending creates?”
We are all aware of public works. They are what is seen. What is not seen are the vacations never taken, homes never built, appliances never bought, and who knows what else that never came into being because the taxpayers couldn’t afford them. They couldn’t afford these things because the money that would have paid for them was taxed away and spent on public works.
In evaluating public works, we must always remember that they came into being at the expense of whatever the taxpayers’ money would have created if the money hadn’t gone for taxes. Whatever the money would have created is, of course, not seen. It is, however, the price we pay for the public works that are seen.
The entire question of government spending is perhaps best perceived when one realizes that the government is not a source of wealth. The people themselves are the only true source of wealth. Hence the government can only give to the people what it has already taken from the people. You can’t get something for nothing!

Watching the horror called President Biden that has been visited upon America, reminded me of the writer James Piereson’s epithet for modern Democrat values – punitive liberalism. After the JFK assassination, American liberals turned against America, apparently for good. The slogan “make America great again” is obscene to such people.
Slavery and segregation were, of course, policies monopolized by Democrats, but modern Democrats have convinced themselves that because southern whites no longer vote Democrat, then the Democrat Party has been magically cleansed of their long and ugly racial history. And hating on Trump voters became the northern elites shortcut to expunging their own sins.
Socialism has definitively failed, so leftists have migrated to anarchism as the path to utopia. After it all comes crashing down, something better will follow. It has to. Quite the logic.
The diffuse anger of Democrat women seems to be their predominant feature. Women like Kamala or Michelle or Hillary, with dream lives, remain angry at America. They define themselves by their anger. The endless possibilities of America are exactly why the mediocre hate it so.

Concerning the 300,000 being transported to the U.S. I posted this a little further back: Obama made a comment back when they were getting ready to shut down the border that they better not stop his and George Bush’s plane from landing with their passengers. I never heard anyone question it at the time and there was not mention of it in the media. What I gathered is all these people were bought here and coordinated by Obama and George W. Bush. They all were here seeking asylum.
