I’m from the east coast and we catch bluefish there and they’re a little strong and gamey so a popular preparation is lemon slices and bacon on top of a filet, wrap in foil, and bake … the strong flavor stands up to the bacon and lemon
in contrast, flounder is a very mild fish and a popular preparation is broiled flounder … just smeared butter on top, shake paprika all over it, then under the broiler flame at high heat until the whole filet browns nicely … I used to cook in a restaurant as a teen and that was our favored prep
the other way flounder is prepped is breaded and fried in the deep fryer, not nearly as elegant as the broiled prep

Many of the pieces are challenging but all are fun to play because they are so musical. Thanks to the Siccas guys, both the music play and the performers themselves are the best of the best. Alas, I still can’t play guitar. I fell and broke two fingers on my left hand. Although healed, I haven’t yet regained full range of motion in my ring finger and little finger. Recovery is happening but is very slow. I think it is time to see a hand specialist for a P/T referral. The therapist I recently worked with said she can do P/T to increase my range of motion.

3/8/2024 – Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to every man
1 Corinthians 3:1-9 “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for *hitherto (until now, thus far) you were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able. For you are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are you not carnal, and walk as men? For while one says, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are you not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that plants any thing, neither he that waters; but God that gives the increase. Now he that plants and he that waters are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are laborers together with God: you are God’s husbandry, you are God’s building.”
After Paul had spent some time planting and establishing the new church at Corinth, and had to go away from them for other work the Lord had called him to; Apollos passed through there, and taught them for a time. For some reason, there arose a sectarian pride among many of them, which had the old idolatrous spirits from their former lives working to bring distraction from the Spirit of the Lord, and the Scriptures, and from the things they had been taught about Jesus; to descend into quarreling and sectarian divisions; which were completely against everything that both Paul and Apollos had taught among them. How did that happen, and why?
If you have a predisposition to behave in a particular way, you tend to behave like that because of the kind of person you are or the attitudes you have. Newborn baby Christians who are still using milk, for example; do not yet know the deep things of God, nor indeed of their own nature, under the light of God; and all the correction and rehabilitation they will need, to prepare for coming home to the Lord. We simply don’t know what we don’t know; and are therefore in great need of being watched and cared for. So it is sometimes easy for the deceiver to play upon the old ways of thinking, and manipulate them by pride. And when a new believer starts to gain a little knowledge, we can be sure that the devil will be right there to wrench and pervert however he can, to make that one think of himself as something special and superior to his brethren. That’s why Paul warned, not to give positions of leadership to a novice; for they are most vulnerable to becoming puffed up, and falling headlong into the snare of the devil.
Corinth in the Classical world, was presided over by strong spirits of fornication and idolatry. And while the newborn Christians would have at least been sensitive to uncleanness of the flesh; it would be harder to discern, and therefore to avoid, the spirit of idolatry, and the whole heathen psyche out of which idolatry comes. It was the same thing which had many times entangled the disciples in that love of contention, around ‘Who should be the greatest.’ And just like the disciples, before Jesus was crucified, the Christians in Corinth understood not any of the things connected with humility and patiently bearing sufferings; but still had firmly fixed in their life-view, that there has to be this competition and confrontation to be the man on top and the greatest.
Men will use any kind of excuse to hide from and avoid the true and deep searching of the Spirit concerning their own ways; and idolizing men is a most common tool by which the devil seduces Christians to deviate from the sacrificial love of the Spirit of Christ; while pretending moral and spiritual superiority. Many young and unestablished and unlearned Christians in fact are essentially taught to idolize certain preachers and teachers; with the unspoken expectation, that it makes them something, simply by hearing; and completely leaves out the doing. If one manages to collect all the most prominent writers’ sermons, then somehow that makes him more excellent then other Christians, which may not listen to and hold in honor such individuals.
Meanwhile, they are committing two evils: they are swelling up with pride against their brethren, who may not be so “enlightened and privileged” to be in the club; and they unconsciously shut out the Holy Spirit from really enlightening themselves in such a way as they would be able to discern, if the brother or sister was in fact speaking from God, or actually against His word.
Additionally what eventually happens, when this kind of thing is let in; that they also open themselves up to other unclean spirits even worse; and their failure to judge righteous judgment then badly influences how they respond to those worse matters. The petty quarreling, and idolatry, that spawned divisions, and unforgiveness in the congregation, wounded their weak consciences; and one vulnerable young person among them was about to be deceived and drawn into fornication, because of the unwise and nonspiritual congregation, that helped the devil persuade him to sin.
It is important to put in order just exactly how the Lord had Paul address the problems in Corinth; and how each one leads to other more serious consequences. Many times it has happened, that a church would be suddenly shocked and horrified by some sin and atrocity that has happened among them; when the whole time they might have known, had they really been filled with the keen-witted and sensitive to the conscience Holy Spirit. This is not a censorious spirit, but a meek and lowly spirit of holy purity and absolute intolerance for the wiles of the devil; which are borne out of our love for Jesus. We watch over one another because we love one another, and we must give account to our Father in heaven, how we care for one another.
If there is to be a truly God-inspired unification of the brethren; it will not be anything that compromises the word of God and the conviction of His Spirit. If there is to be real reconciliation, then it will mean repentance and forgiveness, and compromising long held positions, which made it tenets of their church to exclude their brethren, because they have differing opinions. And compromise, I say, not of the truth, nor of the moral virtue; but rather the willingness and obedience to do the hard work of being of the same mind, and resolved to love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and unfeigned faith.
Seeing it is One God and Father, and One Lord Jesus Christ, and One Holy Spirit; one faith, one baptism, one hope of eternal life: then it cannot be impossible for all Christians everywhere to be of one heart and one soul, and of the same mind in the Lord. But we have to be willing to grow from milk to solid food, from spiritual diapers to being able to control our own spirit, and willing to bear one another’s burdens, as our own.
There are gifts given to each and every one of us by the Lord Jesus, as part of what He obtained for us, when He rose from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father. Its not who honors himself, but whom God honors, that deserves for us to honor. Sometimes one little brother or sister may seem to come out of obscurity, with something very good for you from the Lord: that is not obscure, and not of that little one; but something good from the LORD!
And that truly is the big test which we all have in this world; whether we will hear and receive the word, because it is the truth of God; and not despise it on account of the man whom we see. God has ordained that we be saved by faith; faith in the word which we hear from other men! Like Jesus said, “For this cause came I into the world, and to this end (thing aimed at) was I born; that I should bear witness to the truth: all they that are of the truth WILL HEAR MY VOICE.”

A tune of longing and endurance.
Japan has an amazing culture and history, including having two atomic weapons used on them in WWII. Without knowing the words, the tune itself and th singers voice really evokes a strong emotion of nostalgia and hopefulness to me.Hence its appeal.
I was about 10 when this song hit, but I don’t remember hearing this guy. I DO remember the song very well. I looked it up, and apparently several covers were done at various times. But most of the covers were years later (e.g., by A Taste Of Honey in 1981) and I know I heard this specific tune when I was a boy….

… in 1965 an instrumental version was played over the radio by NASA for astronauts aboard Gemini 7, on what was the 21st crewed spaceflight.
This song was very popular in the tri-state area, and played over and over. I was in 2nd grade and definitely remember it.
Sakamoto sang this song on an August, 1963 episode of the Steve Allen Show. He was scheduled to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, but it was cancelled cuz Sakamoto had a scheduling conflict.
There’s a YT of the Steve Allen show, but the only one I could find has a loud Japanese announcer speaking over the whole thing, unfortunately.
With all the great music from this time period, it’s amazing to me that this one stands out so much.

Stunning picture! Thank you. We have a Smithsonian observatory on the mountain top “in our backyard,” and another large one about 50 miles away. The skys are clear and beautiful. Love the shooting stars! It can get awfully dark though, as there are strict light pollution regulations.
Astronomers from around the world book time to use the multiple telescopes years in advance; if the weather doesn’t cooperate, they are out of luck and lose their time.
The tours up the mountain and around the telescopes are really fun and very informative.

Desert View is the eastern-most developed area on the South Rim of the park.
Starting from the main parking area, a short .25 mile (.4 km) walk takes you past restrooms, the general store/market and the trading post. From there, the Watchtower is in plain view.
Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Watchtower was constructed in 1932. Architect Mary Colter’s design takes its influences from the architecture of the Ancestral Puebloan people of the Colorado Plateau. This particular tower was patterned after those found at Hovenweep and the Round Tower of Mesa Verde. Colter indicated that it was not a copy of any that she had seen, but rather modeled from several.

No one is ever united with Jesus Christ until he is willing to relinquish not sin only, but his whole way of looking at things. To be born from above of the Spirit of God means that we must let go before we lay hold, and in the first stages it is the relinquishing of all pretense. What Our Lord wants us to present to Him is not goodness, nor honesty, nor endeavour, but real solid sin; that is all He can take from us. And what does He give in exchange for our sin? Real solid righteousness. But we must relinquish all pretense of being anything, all claim of being worthy of God’s consideration.
Then the Spirit of God will show us what further there is to relinquish. There will have to be the relinquishing of my claim to my right to myself in every phase. Am I willing to relinquish my hold on all I possess, my hold on my affections, and on everything, and to be identified with the death of Jesus Christ?
There is always a sharp painful disillusionment to go through before we do relinquish. When a man really sees himself as the Lord sees him, it is not the abominable sins of the flesh that shock him, but the awful nature of the pride of his own heart against Jesus Christ. When he sees himself in the light of the Lord, the shame and the horror and the desperate conviction come home.
If you are up against the question of relinquishing, go through the crisis, relinquish all, and God will make you fit for all that He requires of you.

Thanks for the rebound, my photo was from findagrave (a goto for good photos) but apparently he had no “friends” that posted a real photo of just him, I guess just fan pics or publicity photos.
Usually I can find a photo there that someone close to the decedent posts that are personal photos as I have personal photos posted there for aunts, uncles and dad since no one else in the family had bothered to upload.

Swedish-American inventor (screw propeller, rotating turret), dies at 85
Biography: Considered one of the most influential mechanical inventors in history, Ericsson developed the first screw-propeller, later put to use on the USS Princeton, which became the US Navy’s first screw-propeller driven steam frigate.
He also developed the first rotating turret on the USS Monitor, which ended up saving a blockade squadron during the American Civil War.

German general and inventor (rigid dirigibles) who founded the Zeppelin airship company, dies at 78
Biography: Ferdinand von Zeppelin was a German general and aircraft manufacturer who is most famous for pioneering the development of the rigid airship, commonly known as the Zeppelin.
Born into an aristocratic family, von Zeppelin served as an observer during the American Civil War and later became a general in the German army. His exposure to ballooning during his military years sparked an interest in aeronautics, and he turned his focus to this area after his retirement from the army.
In 1899, von Zeppelin established the Zeppelin Foundation with the goal of developing his vision of an airship. Overcoming several setbacks, including early accidents and skepticism from authorities, he flew his first Zeppelin, LZ 1, in 1900. The flight was short and imperfect, but adequately demonstrated the technology was viable.
By 1909, the first Zeppelin airship to carry both passengers and mail made its debut. Von Zeppelin’s airships were initially used for passenger travel, but during World War I, they were adapted for military purposes, including reconnaissance and bombings.
Though the Zeppelins were of limited value in warfare their impact on public morale was significant and they became symbols of German ingenuity. The use of Zeppelins would, however, decline after the war with the advent of more practical aircraft.

(1837-1923)
Dutch physicist (Nobel 1910, Liquid and Gas States), dies at 85
Biography: Johannes van der Waals was a Dutch theoretical physicist. He is best known for his work on an equation of state for gases and liquids, now known as the van der Waals equation of state. This innovative equation accounted for the non-ideal behavior of gases, which classical gas laws couldn’t explain.
The van der Waals equation introduced the concepts of molecular volume and molecular interaction to account for the behavior of real gases. This marked a significant shift from the ideal gas law, which had assumed that gas molecules occupy no volume and exert no forces on each other.
In addition to his work on gases, van der Waals made substantial contributions to our understanding of the phase behavior of substances, including the concept of the “critical point” at which the liquid and gas phases of a substance become indistinguishable. This led to the creation of phase diagrams, which are now a standard tool in physical chemistry.
For his contributions to the field of physics, van der Waals was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1910. His work laid the foundation for much of modern molecular physics and paved the way for further developments in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

Good morning all.
The plumber got all the water lines replaced to the kitchen, washing machine, and small bathroom yesterday.
Today he will be getting new ones run to the main bathroom, installing an under the sink vent, and adjusting the hot water limiter on the faucet set up on the jet tub. The single control units these days have a hot water limiter. The idea is that if you have kids you can prevent them from getting scalded if they play with the faucet but can still have hotter water running to your dishwasher, etc. The limiter was set too cool for the jet tub. Not bad, but not as hot as Sherry wanted it and that will be corrected today.
At 10:00 AM Norris Well Drilling will be here. They will clean my 80′ deep well, inspect the submersible pump, and then route it’s output to a new 25 -30 gallon pressure tank in the garage. The plumber will then reroute the water into the house from that new pressure tank. Getting the pressure tank out of the crawl space where it can be easily accesses has several advantages. Water less likely to freeze, much easier access to water shut off, pressure switch, and electrical shut off for the submersible pump. But perhaps most importantly it allows me to have a much bigger pressure tank. Size of the tank under the house has always been limited by what could be fit between the floor joists. A larger tank means one’s well pump kicks on and off a lot less and thus increases the life of the expensive submersible pump.
By sometime on Saturday all the plumbing and well work should be done.
Next week some time all electrical work in the house should also be completed. Every bedroom, the living room, the dining room, the new sun room, and the kitchen have ceiling fans with lighting. However the ones in the bedrooms and kitchen do not have wall controls or have the old fashioned wall controls. When finished, all will have have wall controls for both fan speed and lights, including dimming.
Need a couple of tri axle dump truck loads of #8 gravel to build up my driveway to the level of the slab of the new garage apron and to widen and deepen the two car turn around. That will get done when the weather gets a bit better and I can coordinate borrowing my brothers Bobcat to level it. I will have to see what the drainage situation is going to be during the heavy spring rains because the place where water passed over the drive to drain is how at a higher elevation than it was before we started all the work. May end up having to run a drain under the driveway. My brother has a trencher attachment for the Bobcat that will make quick work of that project if needed.
Right now I can’t use my new garage as a garage anyway, because it is a temporary workshop where the trim and everything else is being cut and where all the materials are stored until it used. It will also be where we stain the new trim for the living room. But it sure is nice having a heated attached garage. Got a garage fridge so we have plenty of refrigeration and freezer space now.
Still waiting for the utility company to come out and run the incoming power underground and install a 200 amp service meter base. When that happens my in coming cable for my internet connection will also go underground. Once that is done a 27 kw whole house generator will be installed. The generator will run off natural gas and the gas piping is already routed and ready for that hookup. The generator with switch panel will be set right under the new 200 amp meter base. We lost electrical service five times last year and already once this year. Soon that will no longer be an issue because the generator is large enough it will run everything.
I will be having the guaranteed gutter guards installed this summer on all guttering. Most guttering and downspouts on the house are now new. I will also trench and run some downspout outlets under ground to minimize trimming when mowing and to help keep the water away from the house.
I have contractors doing most of the work. I help out and do a lot of the smaller stuff. Now on the living room we’ll be removing the furniture and helping with the tear out. Sherry and I will also do the painting and staining. But Jay will be installing the new floor and installing the new pre-hung oak veneer doors.
It sure will be nice when we can sleep in. For months now we’ve had contractors coming to work at 08:00 5-6 days every week. So I’m up at 06:00 or earlier. One gets used to the quiet and privacy and doing what one wants to do when they want to do it. It will be nice to get that back.
One other thing. The main part of his house was built in 1949. I know this because when they tore out the wall where it connected to the house they found an old Half & Half pipe tobacco tin between the studs. In that tin was a folded up note that says: “Built for Donald Keesling April 1949 by Stomer and Charles Baker”. I will make a copy of the note to keep with the house documents and then that tin with the note will be reinserted in the wall. It belongs there so as to not disturb any spirits that may still be hanging around.
Interesting that the house had its own “cornerstone”. Wonder if those contractor brothers did that to every house they constructed or was it just a whim?
What are you going to do with yourself in retirement if you have everything all fixed up? Lol.

BTW those brothers built Steve’s house to the North of me also. Donald Keeling’s parents live there. They deeded Donald this acre that I have now. I bought the house from a deputy sheriff that bought it from Don. That deputy only had the house for a year. Don moved to Florida in retirement and passed a couple years ago.
The house to the south of me was built in the early 50’s by Don’s sister, Phillis, and her husband Hank. Hank was a navigator on a B-17 in the mighty 8th Air Force during the darkest days before they had fighter escorts that had the range to escort them the whole way. That place was on a two acre plot deeded to Phillis by her parents. Phillis sold the back acre to Steve after Hank died. Phillis passed away last year.
There are three acres of grass behind me that Steve owns. All of this land mentioned used to be orchard. Steve and Betty took out all the old apple trees but have allowed several volunteers to grow and so we have a variety of fresh apples every year, though worms and deer get a lot of them. Back on those three acres is where Steve and Betty with some help from me, have built a nice park style shelter. A storage shed with attacked wood bin for fire wood and most recently a partially completed log cabin. They have let some maple trees grow and planted about 20 oak trees back there. Steve dug a retention pond
Behind those is a hay field and behind that a pasture for horses with a pond that has fish in it. Behind that a pasture where black Angus graze.
Your posts reminded me of trying to dig up my family roots (paternal 400 years in NC, maternal 300 yrs from VA to NC to TX, who knows where else)… all the little discoveries, various connections made. Utterly fascinating.

Remembering the first total eclipse I ever experienced, was walking home on the farm from a quarter-mile away. When the first ripples started creeping across the ground, all the critters in the ditch I was walking beside went thoroughly nuts…. which made me almost jump outa my skin for half a second.

“April showers bring May flowers” Though I live in the path of totality I will not hold out high hopes for clear skies to observe the eclipse. The odds that time of year are against it up here in Indiana. The one in 2017 came in August and there were perfectly clear skies down by Marion, IL where I observed it.
If however we do have clear skies and God wills that I am still living, I will feel blessed to see it and blessed that it will be the third total that I have observed in my life time.
I see my hometown S of Indy is included in this Total Eclipse, The last time I remember a total eclipse I was about 10 in the front yard of our house … there was no hoopla about any eclipse in the 70’s, had no clue until it happened, not that I would have cared at my young age.
I take that back…. it was mentioned in school and I think they taught how to see with a pinhole in cardboard/heavy paper and watch shadow on another piece of paper, I think that’s why I was in front yard not that it was a riveting activity at the time.
There was a total eclipse here in the mid 2010’s, did hear about it and spent the day in the hot springs and watched it from there.
Another happened here within the last year (not total tho) that we had alot of tourism for but I missed it as it was at like 8:oo am & I work 2nd & 3rd shifts so I was happily sleeping instead.
Customer asked me If I saw, told him about the above, that this would be my 3rd in my life, he claimed that seeing 3 was rare (shrug).
Maybe he was telling me that I’m old ….. LOL …. hold on

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Good morning to all my fellow Treepers. I pray ya’ll have a blessed and fulfilling day.
We are fighting the flu/covid here in the whole family. I usually escape it but seems it’s now my turn. So far I’m only having deep painful whole body aches including my skin since Monday night. Motrin is keeping that under control. No fever or upper respiratory symptoms yet. My husband and kids are down to the residual coughing and feeling better. Our neighbors had it last week. They went to urgent care and tested positive for covid. None of us test or accept the offers of vaccination for any upper respiratory viruses.

I’m laughing this morning because my daughter asked me if I’m taking my ivermectin because her husband read it really helps. I’ve been telling them about it for years now, getting eye rolls for my trouble. Now my SIL confirms what they’ve been told by Mom. Silly kids. My turn to eye roll and laugh then tell her I’m taking hydroxychloroquine instead which works to same with the zinc and high vitamin C.
Anyway, it’s a beautiful day, a little rain off and on. God is on His throne and all is well.
Here to testify – Ivermectin works. We haven’t had Covid that we’re aware, but did use it for a cold/flu. I’m pretty severely asthmatic, so I jump on things immediately. My son’s family was shocked at how quickly they recovered. The hard part is ignoring all the naysayers. Best of luck!
