Intelligent disobedience. It’s a common misconception that some of their actions are pure stubbornness, but just as the above sweet doggie won’t engage in unsafe behavior, longears will also protect themselves and their people rather than take unnecessary chances. Cities like New Orleans prefer mules to horses for their carriage rides because of their stable (pun intended!) nature. And….those fabulous ears!

Dear sis, you have no idea how much I appreciate this comment. Last night, one of our sweet white burros, Louisa, became colicky. That can become a life threatening situation very quickly. I immediately called our vet (who no longer is!) and was told they no longer come out as far as our place for emergencies. Trying to hold it together, I called our farrier, who is a sweet angel. He gave me other names to call, but only one answered my message. In the meantime, we did two enemas on Louisa – and she responded appropriately! You haven’t lived till you’ve done enemas on equids! So my dear visiting brother, got pulled over by border patrol and learned burro enemas 101 all in one day! Thats alien stuff for a New England fellow.
So the upshot is we have a new vet, Louisa is well this am, (I checked on her every hour through the night), and I sunk to my knees this morning and thanked the Almighty with all my heart. 🫏 ❤️
Oh, Corny… from despair to joy!! Because my sister in law in Wales kept stables all her adult life, I understand how heartrending and worrying (an insufficient word really for what emotions come to the fore) watching a severely suffering animal can be…and the usual result in the end. I am relieved beyond words that your prayers for Louisa were answered. Deo gratias for His mercies with her. I know you are continuing to be watchful. The pain of watching any of His creations in physical distress, human or animal, is a terrible thing. You’re probably feeling a bit wiped out I would imagine…
My SIL had women vets. In fact in the UK I dare say most vets there are women. Big animal ones probably split 50/50. We’ve always said that vets must be smarter than human doctors because there is no verbal feedback from their patients, and that’s one thing I can completely agree with. Glad you have a new one. But so glad also your ferrier was able to help. Again, when she had her horses, my SIL’s was almost as knowledgeable as the vets who attended. That love for animals must come in gene form I’ve decided…and somewhere St Francis is giving thanks and smiling. So am I…🙏🏻😌💕

I almost always have an animal who is thinking about leaving. I can barely function sometimes because the heartache is so great.
Our large animal vets have mostly been women, and Yes, exactly my opinion on the skill of vets who have to rely on training, instinct, and intuition rather than communication from their patients.
My sweet farrier’s wife had preemie twins on Monday, but offered to come if we thought it was necessary! Wow! A keeper. ❤️

An absolute no nonsense woman, as is her carriage driving partner. What they don’t know about horses and dogs isn’t worth knowing. Neither suffer fools gladly…in fact, not at all. Been there with preemie twins for one daughter… preemie triplets for another. Your farrier’s loving wife would probably appreciate having her mind occupied for just a little while while her little gifts from God are in NICU. I pray they will be home soon enough, healthy and growing. I am all sympathy with your anxiety, sis. Again I say the one thing which helped us through seeing many animals we loved over the bridge was knowing that no one could have given them better lives. It has been said that dog’s lives are too short…their only fault really…
I truly believe we could say the same for any who we’ve watched over, loved, and cared for. It is always part of the price we pay for being devoted to them. A steep price it is, too. Dear Corny….it’s a wafer thin line. One of the most terrible decisions one can make. We had to do so many times,and for us the decisive factor was always “are they in pain or irredeemable distress.” That was our marker. But in the end everyone and their animals are different. We had a very good and kind vet. We knew easing them out of this world would be gentle and painless…and yes…it’s getting very dusty where I am…

Great music has internal kernels of lyricism that invite players understanding. To play that well, to avoid sounding one-dimensional, you have to ‘see’ into the music. If you play, say, Bach or Weiss their counterpoint is an invitation to see into the internal voice of their music. It is there in this performance, only not as clearly evident . . . you have to have some chops to find it.
As someone who is passionate about music and (I realized suddenly) viscerally feels ever note of the music which is my passion, I understand exactly what you are saying, dear friend. Difficult to impossible to describe. But easy to recognize when I see it in an artist’s performance like this exquisite one.

There is a Border Patrol checkpoint about 10 miles south of us along the Interstate. We have been waved along every time we’ve been through it – possibly 1000 times in the past few decades.
Yesterday, that string was broken and we were ordered (rather unpleasantly) to pull over and exit our vehicle – no explanation was given.
While we were waiting, a different BP agent came over to tell me he loved our bumper sticker (Trump 2024). We entered into a fairly detailed conversation regarding the state of our country and the chaos that is our border policy, and the concerns we have for our children and grandchildren. We ended our conversation exchanging God’s Blessings.
We’ve always had excellent relations with BP as they have been called to our home on several occasions and have always been most courteous and professional.
I just think it’s ironic to have thousands of invaders being processed into our country a mere 30 miles farther south. We provided them with a ride to their motel, and a “free” ticket to the destination of their choice, while we were sitting on the side of the road. We are not only American citizens (not Newcomers), but my brother and husband who were with me are veterans. Sad.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Good morning all!
True joy is watching your wife use the jet tub she never thought she would have for the first time! except for a few details like mirror lighting, towel racks, and a couple shelves to be built in, the main bathroom is done and looks fantastic. Ryan got the pump and the inline heater for the jet tub wired in last night. As soon as he left I showed Sherry how to use it, and she immediately did so. One happy lady!
As I write this I have a plumber working in the crawl space. He is a guy that has been a journeyman since 1989 but always worked for others until very recently starting his own business. All my drain lines are good but there is a lot of galvanized and old copper tubing that he’s replacing with Pex! When he is done all water lines will be up to date and by code.
This weekend Sherry will be emptying and cabinets, taking down pictures, etc and then my son and I will be moving the furniture from the living room into the sun room to get it out of the way to start on the living room.
So much for retirement, eh?
Its probably worth it to keep the bride happy!

Many are familiar with the cartoon strip Peanuts and the characters of Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy, Linus and the others. In creating the cartoons, Charles Schulz, a devoted Christian, often shared his faith. He would subtly create deep conversations between his characters, often including a Bible verse, letting them explore spiritual values.
His “Charlie Brown Christmas” includes Linus quoting from the Gospel of Luke. Schulz told an animator who questioned its inclusion, “If we don’t do it, who will?” Later, he explained to a media outlet, “If we’re going to do this, we should talk about what Christmas is all about, not just do a cartoon with no particular point of view.”
Even though his career shared humor with a wide audience, his personal life was far from easy. He had a troubled marriage, had an affair, had to deal with a kidnapping attempt on his wife, and later dealt with cancer and a stroke. Although some biographers have questioned the depth of his faith, many who eulogized him told of its strength. He had learned to trust the Lord.
You may not have the breadth of the influence of a Charles Schulz, but by your actions, you may help strengthen the faith of those around you or lead others to trust the Lord. Just as a “Charlie Brown Christmas” might provide the only exposure some people will have to the Bible story of the birth of the Savior, you could be the only Bible that someone else reads.
Pray for believers in government to uncompromisingly identify with and lean on the Savior.

What a near perfect message to believers.
I heard from someone awhile back (cannot recall who/where)…. when discussing Doctrine with someone who either is not a believer or who apparently just wants to challenge our own beliefs, remember that our responses and argument may not be received or heard by that other person. But, a third, unknown, unannounced person somewhere within earshot may just be listening with more of an open mind and heart. So the quality of our discourse should be in consideration of that unknown person, wherein a seed may well be planted in unknown but good soil.
When posting here in CTH, I try to remember that bit of wisdom, although not always successfully…..

I feel sad for all the young people who were fed, and believed, that evil nonsense about how they could change their gender.
Why were so many so gullible? If only someone had taught then how to think for themselves. If only they knew about analytical and critical thinking. If only an ethical science teacher had told them about Chromosomes.
If only someone had told them it is perfectly normal to be attracted to a person of the same sex, when your body is adjusting are you are changing from a child to an adolescent and a young teen.
