In fact I’ll bet those were the original configuration. Then someone looked at it and decided it wasn’t the best way to present exactly what it is.
We all bandy about that word “truth”, many even believe that they know the truth. So what exactly IS the truth?? We’ll never know – at least not in this life and then I’m not sure we’ll even know in the next, because the Truth is, and is one of the “names” of God. Since God is infinite it follows that “truth” in the shape of knowledge, understanding and wisdom, is ALSO infinite. However when a person seeks God, even from the lowest of lowest places, then that person is now on the “path” to the truth. Psalm 25:1 is an example of where even Kind David, after becoming,…well Kind David, STILL prayed constantly (hence the poems/psalms) to the Lord for guidance – lest we find ourselves believing that WE know the truth ” Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.”
PS It’s that last part that gets me, so I “change” it in my head to …..I will search all the day. 🙂
And then there are earthly lies…posing as truths. God given discernment is needed. As you say so beautifully, Oldspeak ..Your truth, Almighty God 🙏🏻

Having lived through the Vietnam debacle, it is stunning to me at least, how similar the arguments surrounding our “action” in Ukraine parallel the statements from our political leaders in the 60s. I remember the “domino theory” argument, that if Vietnam fell so would the rest of Southeast Asia.. one at a time, like dominoes. Now we are hearing the same exact discussion surrounding Ukraine and the rest of eastern Europe. We entered Vietnam originaly only in an “advisory” capacity and would not have “boots on the ground”. I can guarantee you that we currently have “advisors” on the ground in Ukraine. Eisenhower was right to warn us all of the “Military, Industrial Complex’.. big money interests who grow wealthy supplying the tools of war, authorized repeatedly by our own Congress.
Beautifully and succinctly summarized. As many others in my age group, I lost friends from high school, and my family members “joined up” for that war. Very contentious times. I spent many afternoons “staying after school” because my political views were not in alignment with those of my teachers.
When the Ukrainian conflict began, liberal friends who had previously bragged about their anti-war activities in the 60’s, were now painting their lawn furniture blue and gold and flying the Ukrainian flag! Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

Sadly the presidential thread rarely holds my interest either in recent months. Instead of reasoned arguments with citations to support there’s bloviating and rants galore. Then there seems to be a band of rovers applying the “no true Scotsman” and playing at being moderators instead of valued posters.
Seldom do posters skim the thread to ensure they’re not repeating someone else’s post, (given the number of comments that is quite the chore at times. Most concerning though is the drive by poster who never returns to address comments to their post. If you don’t care enough to address replies to your post then why post?
Sometimes it is far better not to comment unless there is meaningful and decidedly different aspects to examine.
(disclaimer: I’ve been known to rant and err many times and ways on these pages myself.)
Still and all its a wonderful place we have here and some posters are like steel sharpening steel with a sage’s voice.

Most of all y’all know the story behind this, and its meaning to me….Mom was in hospice…a winter snow storm in Chicago and could not get a flight…car not reliable for long trip…got a flight Christmas day…got there…held her hand and told her i am here…got a barely perceptible squeeze in my hand…the angels came the next day….Mom and I used to watch MASH together and this episode always had us crying….
16 years ago…may as well be yesterday…

I have been a nurse in the ICU, way too long…it wasn’t until after they went to heaven…that I became aware, profoundly…while a patient is arresting in the ICU…that a minute ago, was here on earth…and the next, during compressions and pushing meds while trying to pray for their soul at their time of death….they are in front of Our Lord…

As for that MASH episode…
My surgeon father spent 18 months with one in Korea. It was only when I grew much older that I began to understand what he must have seen on a daily basis. My mother said he came back a completely different man from the one she waved goodbye to with two little girls under 3. When he arrived back, my younger sister who saw only a stranger in front of her slapped him. It broke his heart…
Aside from the heartache and all the rest of war…there are so many stories, I am sure like this…I hope your dad (and mum) recovered and was not too badly devastated…is hard to find the right words…but know I feel this in my heart…
AS for that MASH episode, I am a by the book person…and would have said something very similar to what Hotlips said about falsifying a record…and would have written down what the surgeon told me….

Unfortunately they did not. We were all peripheral casualties of that senseless war in big ways and small.

This has always been an emotional song for me… the lyrics driving deep into my soul and rooting there… I lost my dad when I was 18 and “lost” those meaningful adult to adult conversations that we could have had as I grew. This song always brings back that loss for me.
I’m always stumbling across questions I wish I has asked my Dad–the say nothing WW2 type; my Mother, on the other hand, always seemed to have a story I never heard before whenever I visited. I wish she would have used that tape recorder, I’d just like to hear her voice

Oh my gosh, yes! It took my Dad till he was almost gone to open up about his time in the South Pacific. I always thought the world of him – always will, but I gained a new appreciation from a different perspective.
One of my grown granddaughters gave me a book, “tell me your life story, Grandma.” It is a fill in the blanks book. To be honest, some of the questions are a bit too personal and intrusive, and I will leave them blank. Others are things I wish I knew about my folks, and I will be as honest as possible. I understand and appreciate their desire to know. The greatest generation was, in general very private.
My husband’s dad was involved in top secret activities in WWII, and never spoke a word if it. Unlike today!
My own dad (see above) never ever spoke of his Korean War experiences. He was a devout man, serving as a vestryman in our Episcopal church. But he never volunteered any information, and I knew enough not at ask. I agree…today?

John 15:12-15 “This is My commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends, if you do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
Luke 6:27-38 “But I say to you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And to him that smites you on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that takes away your cloak forbid not to take your coat also. “This is My commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.” When we read this, do we think that He is only talking about Christians having love for each other, only among themselves? How about if we think about, how Jesus said, that He alone is our Teacher and Leader, our Lord and Master, and all the rest of us, saved and unsaved, are brethren! For WE ARE ALL BRETHREN. Doesn’t He mean ALL, when He says all? The entire human race!
Acts 17:24-27 “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made with hands; neither is worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed any thing, seeing He gives to all life, and breath, and all things; and has made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us:”
When Jesus told the apostles, that it is the single proof that they are His disciples, and that they love Him, is whether they keep His commandments; and the commandment He gave is to love one another as He has loved us: then it must be “according as He has loved us,” and given up Himself for us: not when we were righteous; but sinners: not when we were whole, but when we were sick, and needed Him. That’s how we are to love one another, as He has loved us.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
In the law it is written, that we shall not hate our neighbor in our heart; but we shall in any wise rebuke our neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him. (Leviticus 19:17) This teaches us, that the duty of all of us who are God’s chosen people from among the nations, is that we have an obligation, a holy charge and commandment, to love those who are yet without, and in every kind of darkness and sin; that with the same measure God has measured with us, we show others the same, that they too can find mercy.
Romans 11:31 “Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.” In this teaching about unbelieving Israel, (Romans 9-11); we can take this as the rule for how we are to regard everyone who is in similar condition, “the Jew first, and also the Gentile.” If its family members, or neighbors, or people at work, who do not receive us, not hear our words about Jesus; “through our mercy they also may obtain mercy.” Did Jesus come into a world that already knew everything perfectly and was perfectly agreeable with Him? Should we expect that people are anything different now, than they were then?
1 Peter 3:1-2 “Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the *conversation (manner of living; behavior) of the wives; while they behold your *chaste (pure; decent; modest) manner of living coupled with fear.”
Probably one of the hardest ‘concepts’ for a proud person to hear, is anything that speaks about being subject; especially being subject to one who does not think the way we do, nor anything open to receive what we say about Jesus and being saved. That is when we have to put our money where our mouth is: if we really believe the things we say we do, and all the love we profess to Jesus in worship; then it will be shown in our behavior toward then that do not believe. Our actions must be the real life demonstration of the power of the Gospel; ESPECIALLY in direct confrontation with opposition and resistance.
1 Corinthians 14:36 “What? came the word of God out from you? Or came it unto you only?” The times of our ignorance God was willing to wink at the things we did, but now commands all men unto repentance. We who have been given this great mercy and deliverance and cleansing from sin; are obliged to seek to bring the same comfort to others, according as God has come and comforted us.
He brought us into conviction and dread for our souls, on account of our sins, and showing us that Jesus died on the cross for our sins: and that if we did not repent and get right with God, and turn our backs on the world to follow Jesus; we would go to hell. He pressed us sore until we could hardly function, and our faces were filled with shame and confusion, no matter how we tried to anesthetize ourselves from it. Then one day He spoke to us and said, You are not fit for the Presence of God! And that was the word that knocked us decisively off the fence, and onto our knees in prayers for mercy and forgiveness and a New Birth. And so He brought us to the point, where He could do for us what we most needed; and now He comforts us!
This is how Jesus found us, and this is how He directs for us to help Him find others, who are likewise held under the strongholds of the devil as we were, in sin and uncleanness, in darkness and idolatry and deceits of all kind, all warring against our conscience and our soul.
The Stronger Man came in and rescued us from our bondage and captivity in the devil’s dungeon in sin; and He has now cleansed us and healed us and made us New Creations, Born From Above, and given His Spirit into our heart. This is what we are to bring to others; not just to those who love us and receive our words and bless us; but to our enemies, and those who despitefully use us and persecute us; upon the evil and the good, the just and the unjust: not for what we hope to get in return, but because it is the nature of our Father in heaven.
John 3:17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.”

Thankfully … Saint Paul knew my weak spirit and flesh … so he provided an alternate motivation for loving my enemies … Rom. 12:20
If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head
Other than my irreverent tongue in cheek, snarky, comment. May I suggest that God knows our hearts all too well. But what this verse actually instructs is that when we show kindness to our enemies … we turn the tables on them. We give up our own hate and animosity … and give it to them. The ball’s in their court so to speak. But we’ve not spread hot coals … we’ve spread LOVE … and it is up to our enemies to accept it as LOVE … or remain in their own HATE. Yes, it instructs us to catch flies with honey, not vinegar.
It makes me ponder the meaning of the Proverb, “Let your heart keep My commandments.” That word, LET your heart keep My commandments… Jesus said, that from within, out of the heart of man proceeds . . .all those evil things. This we know is true enough; but the inference, I think, is that we are given power and authority in Jesus’ Name, by His Spirit dwelling in us, to do those good things by faith; which WERE not of our old man’s nature, but of the new divine nature He has made us partakers of.
I believe, that just as God gave to Solomon a wise and understanding heart, He is happy and very much in favor of giving to all of us, if we ask Him. But having been given the wisdom and understanding also has with it, the expectation of walking with a perfect heart like David, and keeping His statutes and commandments. That will mean action on our part, and most times hard work that the flesh and self does not want to do, BUT IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO; like, for example, NOT sinning, and being poor in spirit, when we are provoked to proud reactions; like being merciful, and seeing the possibilities in God, if that person were to be saved and healed.
We can and should go down the list of the Beatitudes, for example, and see that it is always in direct confrontation with the things of the enemy, and the ways of our old man, that we must exercise faith in obedience, sincerely from the heart; that is in fact “being perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect.” Too much, I think, is made of the weakness of the flesh, and the ruined nature of the old man; while Jesus teaches us about what it means, that the kingdom of heaven is now within us. Too much directing the eyes of the disciples one direction, while Jesus directs our eyes another direction . . . we are not going to benefit anyone, including ourselves, by being cross-eyed! Either the Lord’s word is true and powerful to do all that He says; or we should look for another. I believe there is no other than Jesus; and we should let all the words of men that go against His words, be counted nothing worth. Jesus has the words of eternal life!

Love is fruit of the Holy Spirit. By ourselves we can’t really live the Christian life.
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
It is interesting to think about, what it means to “abide in Christ,” so that we bear much fruit. On the one hand, when we picture a branch on a tree, it just sits there; and as long as no one cuts it off, it will just continue to be one with the tree; and in fact, that most necessary part of the tree, especially FOR PRODUCING the fruit.
But we know that with us, there cannot be idleness and fruitfulness at the same time. We must strive and contend earnestly through the Spirit against the passions and motions of the flesh, and most times have to take a decided course of action, and reaction, if we are to maintain our integrity. “The *end (thing aimed at) of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and faith *unfeigned (without hypocrisy; w/o stage-playing).
Abiding in the secret place of the Most High (Psalm 91:1), by very definition, demands the strength and well seasoned resolve, of a consecrated heart: consecration that is only proved true and real in confrontation with the things that oppose it.
John 15 – Jesus Christ is the Vine. We’re the branches. Branches don’t produce fruit, they only bear the fruit produced by the sap (the Holy Spirit in us).
Speaking from my personal experience, there’s no idleness in abiding. … when we surrender to Christ, He lives through us. It’s when we try to “help” Him, that we mess up. He is sufficient. He guides us.
Psalms 46:10
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Surrender means submission to obey. Surrender, implies giving up the contrary attitude and resisting and disobedience; so that NOW we have the attitude of agreement and obedience, DOING what Jesus says.
We are the branches, in that we cannot produce fruit except we abide in Jesus, the Vine. But at the same time, it does not contradict the meaning in the parable of the fruit tree producing fruit according to what kind it is, whether good or bad. And just at is true, that WE do not produce the life and grace ourselves, which comes out of us as fruit; it is equally true, that it is US who do the actual producing of the fruit, by our works showing our faith.
God is not going to do for us what He has commanded us to do. Salvation and sanctification is conditional upon righteous reciprocal love.
I’m sorry I can’t never agree that we need to do something to be saved.
Salvation is by grace and grace alone. My part is only to accept what Jesus already did and finished at the cross.
Sanctification is a process that depends on my submission to God. God will transform us as we submit to Him.
It is arrogance to think that we can transform ourselves. As I submit to Him, He is working on me, showing me where I’m wrong , correcting me, picking me up …a process that will only be completed in heaven.
The definitive Word came in Rom. 6 … Paul was such a perfect communicator of Christ’s messages to us …
6 Well then, shall we keep on sinning so that God can keep on showing us more and more kindness and forgiveness?

Yes Aggie Girl, that is a very hard thing, to know how that works: but I think it is on the same lines of how the saints endured the persecutions, unimaginable cruelties of torture and slaughter, and lies about their character. And of course, the worst and most unthinkable injustice and cruelty served to our Lord Jesus! And like the Lord, the martyrs suffered, and had the same response as Jesus in their sufferings; Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
When we put those things alongside what we see today; and NO ONE is able to stop them, or bring judgment of God upon the wicked; then we have to learn what it means to resign ourselves in faith into the hands of Him who will come and judge the world, and punish the wicked for ALL their wickedness, and take full and complete account of all the innocent blood shed upon the earth.
We know Him who has said, Vengeance is Mine, says the LORD: I will repay.
This does not in any way imply that we should be stoic, or harden our hearts, to the pain and the sorrow; but that we should bear up under it, abiding under subjection. For we are His witnesses. And it is precisely about all these things, that he will separate out the wicked unto everlasting punishment and shame.
Another part of this mystery, is how David reveals in the Psalms; (and we know that he was mightily filled with the Spirit, and wrote through the Spirit;) how that God hates all workers of iniquity, and he has prepared already for them, the instruments of their destruction, if they do not repent. God is angry every day, and ordains His arrows for the persecutors.
Mystery I say, because If God hates, then we do also hate; which we do! but God also loves, and wishes for none to perish, but all come to repentance; as do we. These are not contradictions, as many who love to debate and contradict would protest that they are; but the perfect good and holy nature of God who loves righteousness and hates wickedness.
We do not love blasphemers, filthy perverts, liars and murderers, ungodly sinners and scorners; but they cruelly wound our hearts and souls, and grieve us every day, because they are wicked, and what they do is evil. We do not love who we were, and what we used to do before we were saved; because we were evil, and the things we did were shameful and bad. We do however wish for them to repent and to cease to do evil, and to not be wicked any more.

Have you been impoverishing the ministry of Jesus so that He cannot do anything? Suppose there is a well of fathomless trouble inside your heart, and Jesus comes and says – “Let not your heart be troubled”; and you shrug your shoulders and say, “But, Lord, the well is deep; You cannot draw up quietness and comfort out of it.” No, He will bring them down from above. Jesus does not bring anything up from the wells of human nature. We limit the Holy One of Israel by remembering what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past, and by saying, “Of course I cannot expect God to do this thing.” The thing that taxes almightiness is the very thing which we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do. We impoverish His ministry the moment we forget He is Almighty; the impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus as Comforter or as Sympathizer, but we will not come to Him as Almighty.
The reason some of us are such poor specimens of Christianity is because we have no Almighty Christ. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment to Jesus Christ. When we get into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying – “Of course He cannot do anything,” and we struggle down to the deeps and try to get the water for ourselves. Beware of the satisfaction of sinking back and saying – “It can’t be done”; you know it can be done if you look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness is deep, but make the effort and look away to Him.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

For the expounding of this psalm we may borrow a great deal of light from the apostle’s discourse, Heb. 3 and 4, where it appears both to have been penned by David and to have been calculated for the days of the Messiah; for it is there said expressly (Heb. 4:7) that the day here spoken of (v. 7) is to be understood of the gospel day, in which God speaks to us by his Son in a voice which we are concerned to hear, and proposes to us a rest besides that of Canaan. In singing psalms it is intended,
I. That we should “make melody unto the Lord;” this we are here excited to do, and assisted in doing, being called upon to praise God (v. 1, 2) as a great God (v. 3-5) and as our gracious benefactor (v. 6, 7).
II. That we should teach and admonish ourselves and one another; and we are here taught and warned to hear God’s voice (v. 7), and not to harden our hearts, as the Israelites in the wilderness did (v. 8, 9), lest we fall under God’s wrath and fall short of his rest, as they did (v. 10, 11).

I would like to dedicate a song to a friend of mine, Christine Passey. She had medical issues and left home, but was recently found deceased in Nevada. The family was exhaustively searching for her. It’s a long story.
Back in the 80’s, when I first met her, this song was playing on the radio. She looked almost identical to Stevie Nicks so the irony has never escaped me.

Philippians 4:8 says whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, and excellent, think on these things. Meditate on God’s promises. It is also important to affirm to yourself who you are in Christ: loved, forgiven, God’s child, and more. Topical studies on hope, joy, peace, or patience will help your mood stay balanced and consistent.
Psalms 34:18 states that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Today’s verse says to hope continually and praise God more and more. Praising Him for who He is and what He has done for you also leads to a healthy mind. As the apostle Paul told Timothy, God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV).
Thank God today for the hope you have in Christ. Turn to Him as the only Hope for this nation and the upcoming election. Pray for His will to be done in America, its citizens, and elected officials.

A WW2 UXB (unexploded bomb) 1000lbs, found in a back garden in Plymouth. Plymouth, being a Royal Navy Base, HMS Drake ( remember the Spanish Armada) was heavily bombed in the war, as were so many other British cities. There are probably hundreds of UXBs around England.
As I lived in Plymouth for a couple of years I was especially interested in this story.
The bomb was later detonated at sea. An English bomb was recently dug up in Germany, I read also.
