12 Steps To Recovery
“Here are the steps we took, which are suggested as your Program of Recovery:”
With MANY people in this country, there is a real problem with some addiction to sin; which needs to be dealt with in an intelligent and caring way. All the problems this country faces, are NOT the fault of everyone else, especially those who hold other political views. Remember the Lord’s admonition, how that if we want to see clearly to remove the dry twig from our brother’s eye; we first have to do something about the beam in our own eye. Resisting and fighting against the punishment, is not going to cure what caused the punishment to begin with!
1. Admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care and direction of God as we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely willing that God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly, on our knees, asked Him to remove our shortcomings — holding nothing back.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make complete amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual experience as a result of this course of action, we tried to carry this message to others, especially alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Original “Serenity Prayer” was found in a Newspaper Classified Section.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
It was noted, someone posted a revision of the 12 Steps, geared toward supposedly “taking back our country.” But what struck me immediately, was the vast chasm between it and the Original; in that there is no indication of personally taking moral responsibility to God and our neighbor, for the hopeless wreck that our country has become.
For this reason I have posted the original “12 Steps To Recovery,” with the hope that the vision of Bob Smith and Bill Wilson, and the untold millions who have REALLY been rescued by its Bible-inspired wisdom; might serve as a compass, for us all to more accurately orient ourselves to what is truly needed to save the United States of America; which of course, begins with the fear of God and repentance, and the sincere desire to search and try our ways in the light of God’s Word.
For EVERY attempt to go around and avoid that first most important truth; can only fail miserably: and most likely as a result of that mass deception of idolatry. There is no other way of saving our lives, but by losing them through repentance and conversion, and forsaking the foolish and the evil, to do what is right.
Blaming others and hating those who have another political view than yourself, will not solve the first problem with this country. What is the name of our country? The “UNITED” States of America! Differences of experience, and political viewpoints, cannot make someone exempt from the commandment to Love Your Neighbor As Yourself. As much as within our power, we should make EVERY effort to reach a peaceful compromise; as long as it does not compromise our obligation to God and one another to virtue.
Our duty, as Americans, is not to fight to defend OUR OWN rights, but the rights of our neighbor! Our brother’s welfare is our responsibility; NOT pleasing ourselves!
I read somewhere that the author of the serenity prayer was Niebuhr, the dubious theologian that Comey follows.
And the vision of Bill W was to find a way to support himself. Hence his cult.
He even formed his steps based on practices of a Christian group while gutting God from them.

Thanks, and good afternoon to you. Or a very belated good morning.
I heard from my Sponsor, and the meetings, that it was found in the classified section, where people used to put things like that. I never heard of it being anything else. I forget who first saw it, and introduced it in the meetings; but it seemed like the perfect fit for what they were doing.
I think its funny how you often come up with these obscure ideas, that inevitably seem to cast things in an ugly light? And what makes people trying to clean up their lives and take responsibility for their choices, a cult? Are you the kind that would let Lazarus just rot at your front gate, “because it was his own doings that got him in that condition?” Don’t you think you are your brother’s keeper?
Personally, I have a couple disagreements with some of the ideas of some who are in the program. One being, that when Jesus sets us free from demons and the sins, then we are REALLY free! And when the Stronger Man binds the devil and takes from him all his armor in which he trusted; and “plunders his goods,” then we are in the possession of Another. And what many in the A-Groups say, even after having been clean and healthy for decades, is that they are still addicts or alcoholics! In my opinion, as the 12 steps starts and finishes with God, why don’t people then attribute to God the ability to save and heal all the way?
Everyone has to come to his own experience with God at his own rate. There is only one God, and one Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. But most times we are simply too dull, and it takes a long time and many hard things to learn, before eventually coming to know and understand the LORD in the way that He desires for us. So we can and should have mercy on one another, when we all don’t come along at the same level, at the same rate.

Natural love expects some return, but Paul says – I do not care whether you love me or not, I am willing to destitute myself completely, not merely for your sakes, but that I may get you to God. “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor.” Paul’s idea of service is exactly along that line – I do not care with what extravagance I spend myself, and I will do it gladly. It was a joyful thing to Paul.
The ecclesiastical idea of a servant of God is not Jesus Christ’s idea. His idea is that we serve Him by being the servants of other men. Jesus Christ out-socialists the socialists. He says that in His Kingdom he that is greatest shall be the servant of all. The real test of the saint is not preaching the gospel, but washing disciples’ feet, that is, doing the things that do not count in the actual estimate of men but count everything in the estimate of God. Paul delighted to spend himself out for God’s interests in other people, and he did not care what it cost. We come in with our economical notions – “Suppose God wants me to go there – what about the salary? What about the climate? How shall I be looked after? A man must consider these things.” All that is an indication that we are serving God with a reserve. The apostle Paul had no reserve. Paul focuses Jesus Christ’s idea of a New Testament saint in his life, viz.: not one who proclaims the Gospel merely, but one who becomes broken bread and poured out wine in the hands of Jesus Christ for other lives.

That would be a great “opener” ,Bet 🙂 But then we need to get into the “heart” of the matter. Along the lines of… Lord it seems like everything is falling apart, things I have no control of, please guide me in your path, help me to discern truth from lies. Help me to maintain a steady balance as we navigate these unknown waters… etc etc, whatever is personal to you, that touches or makes your heart ache, in your own words. If you don’t understand what God wants from you, say so. “Hey I’m clueless here, please guide me, perhaps the odd hint would help”. Probably take us not more than 10 minutes, do that each day, many times repeating or “clarifying” a point, and very soon you’re developing a solid relationship. Sorry I’m probably singing to the choir here – perhaps a passerby may find something.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

How amazing it is to have a caring Father in Heaven who is all-knowing, everywhere present, and all-seeing. In 2 Chronicles 16:9, you learn, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.” Job 36:7 reminds you, “He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous.” Psalm 34:15 states, “The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.”
Those who reverence and hold the Lord in awe, and who know Him as Father through a relationship with His Son, Jesus, are ever under His watchful attention. Nothing that happens escapes Him. God is interested in what you are doing and where you are, and He longs to keep you safe and surround you with His steadfast love. “Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord” (Psalm 32:10).
Today, trade in fear and anxiety for confidence in God’s love as you meditate on how He is attentive to you 24/7. Psalm 66:7 says His eyes also watch the nations. Pray for an awakening in the United States and that citizens and governing officials turn to the Lord with a spirit of repentance. Surely, He will protect a nation that loves Him.

Just Wow! Most mornings at our house, A-10s fly overhead. First I cheer, then I ask The Lord to protect them. Many times they are quite low and we can hear “the whistle”. Thrilling really.
We also get F-16s from the Air National Guard. Our friend’s son is among the pilots. If my grandchildren happen to be here, I remind them to give thanks.
Idiots who moved close to the air base complain bitterly about the noise. I worked there for a time, and spent my lunch break watching the landings from the parking lot. As my grandkids say, “Awesome”. It is, indeed, the sound of freedom, and I am grateful.
Monticello: I could watch those low-level passes all day long. There is also a famous low level training area north of Las Vegas.

Having considered “google it” a near-profanity since around 2005, I offer the following results of a test I just ran in search of “Dr. Mary Talley Bowden” (re StillWater’s post in today’s Resistance Day). I copied & pasted that exact phrase to each search engine below.
Note, “Negative” result means (simply) a headline that suggests villainy toward Dr. Bowden. “Positive” indicates more or less the opposite, showing favoritism toward the doctor. “Neutral” applies to results such as Dr Bowden’s homepage (e.g. BreatheMD) or a Facebook or LinkedIn link.
Surprisingly, google was not the worst of the bunch in this test – but certainly not the best either.
