I like to give credit where and when it is due. IMHO the Siccas guitar guys do great work finding and presenting genuine virtuoso classical guitarists. Yes, they have a clear preference for promoting attractive women performers—they are a privately owned company and if their preference is oriented around promoting women performers, so be it. As I’ve mentioned before, my interest is in discovering and presenting splendid players, so that’s good enough for me.
Still, I think it is important to audition selections before posting here. Tonight’s choice came with a Siccas Guitars note to their viewers: (MUST WATCH).
Vera Danilina’s performance in this splendid concert definitely justifies this quite rare—at least for the Siccas Guitars guys—up front recommendation. I usually pay attention to the first few bars of a performer’s opening. From the very first I was musically engrossed in her performance. Hope you are also. . .

Hi Garrison, some performers display so much of their self while playing (Vera), others like to let the music speak and remain stoic (Segovia). I allow for both, but in Vera’s case, her whole body is involved – almost dancing. So, it’s like a guitar opera!
Lately, over the past couple of years, I have become somewhat disenchanted with strictly instrumental virtuosity to the exclusion of a lyrical component. For this reason I have deeply appreciated Joan Chamorro – for example:

When working at a high end stereo shop from 1968-1970, I sold many of those (and TD125’s when they came out) along with an SME series II imp. tone arm. Cartridges were usually a Stanton 680E (or 681), Ortofon, or Shure, in that order of preference.
Towards the end of my tenure there, we started dealing with RABCO SL-8 Straight Line Tracking tonearms. When they worked well, they were awesome – zero tracking error. But they could sometimes be a bit finicky.
(PS – I had not thought about any of this for ~ 50 years until I saw your post….!)

I think back in the late ‘60s that combo was very popular. Without an internet, my only resources to gain knowledge were magazines. Stereo Review and High Fidelity were the two most popular, but Audiophile was the periodical that featured reviews of the highest quality “elite” components. I read about many of these, but unless my small shop carried the product or a customer brought something in for repair that we didn’t sell, my hands-on experience was limited to the products we sold. We sold Dual and Garrard turntables, and Thorens was our top end unit. I think the Shure SME was the only high-end tone arm we sold (until the Rabco) and it was always well received by our customers. We sold Pickering cartridges for the lower cost turntables since Pickering was lower cost than any of the ones I mentioned previously. Plus Pickering had a large line with a dozen or more price points.
One aspect of cartridges that always impressed me was the difference in sound between different cartridges. Sometimes the difference was huge! Ideally, a real audiophile would buy several cartridge holders for their turntable / tone arm, and buy several cartridges: one for classical music, one for jazz, one for rock, and possibly one for piano recordings (they were the most difficult to sound realistic). We had a listening room where a customer could compare these different cartridges with different records. That was by appointment only.
At that time many young servicemen were returning from SE Asia with Japanese stereo equipment. I started seeing Pioneer, Sansui, Akai tape decks, Kenwood, and some others I’m forgetting at the moment. But our shop carried Kenwood, Pioneer, and later, Onkyo. We also picked up Bang & Olufsen (B&O).
I could ramble on about this stuff but life is short.
The Huey Smith album shows us the roots of Rock N Roll.; from before there was rock n roll. What a great trip back into something long ago passed over.
Rockin Pneumonia was released in ’57.
It was definitely part of Rock n Roll, but it didn’t precede it.

It was an opportunity and they considered it possible. The same unit also released a female soldier a couple of months ago. Those in tunnels it’s a different story. I don’t think others will be punished. They need them alive and also they know they will talk when they are back.
For sure security will increase on other hostages. They may also move them. But it’s possible the Intelligence have penetrated Hamas. That would be a huge advantage.

This may have happened, however the actual origin of hush puppies is a bit different.
At large plantations and homes, the kitchen was usually in a separate building due to the possibility of fire.
While bringing the food into the main house at mealtimes, the excited dogs would naturally follow the slaves begging.
Said “hush puppies” were thrown to distract the dogs away from the food going into the “Bighouse”.

2/13/2024 – We ought to know Whose we are, and be all of the same mind, and one soul, to continue what Jesus began when He was here.
Matthew 9:35-38 “And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then says He unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.”
This little paragraph rounds up an example of a short period of time; from when He had finished His sayings, of what we call the Sermon on the Mount, and a string of healings and deliverance and exercising authority over the elements of nature. What should strike us in all these, is first of all, how no one but God Himself is able to work simply at will, and do all the miracles which Jesus does. In this it behooves us recognize just exactly Who this Son of God come in the flesh is, receiving Him as the Father Himself who sent Him; and with what fear and trembling.
1. The cleansing of a leper. 8:1-4
2. The healing of the Centurion’s servant, which was paralyzed. 8:5-13
3. Healing Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever. 8:14-15
4. The calming of the storm at sea. 8:23-27
5. Delivering a man of a legion of demons, healing him and restoring to him his sanity. 8:28-34
6. Forgiving the sin, and healing a man of paralysis. 9:1-8
7. Healing a woman of an issue of blood, simply by her touching the border of His garment. 9:20-22
8. Raising Jairus’ twelve year old daughter from dead. 9:23-26
9. Healing of a dumb man who was possessed of a devil; which when the devil was cast out, the dumb spoke. 9:32-34
10. An unspecified number of people being healed of every sickness, and every disease, and devils being cast out: rounding it all up with His overflowing compassion, and appealing to the disciples to pray the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest; because of the incalculable needs, and the desperately too few for the work. 9:35-38
What do these things tell us about the true nature of our Lord Jesus Christ? And of God’s desire to do good and bless men? We must have already understood it, that for those of us who have been granted mercy and forgiveness, and have been given the Holy Spirit and understanding of the Scriptures; that when Jesus returns, He will first be taking account with us, to know what we have done with the things He’s given to us. And to the rest, which have not known the Lord’s will, they shall be judged also, according to their works. In every case, whether saved or unsaved, we all will be judged by how we cared for and treated one another: and Jesus Himself has given us the perfect example for the whole world to follow.
Next to His eternal power and divinity, we cannot neglect to see His infinitely generous nature of kindness and mercy, and His patience and perseverance and longing for our good health, and to know God as He really is. And howsoever men respond to the Light of Christ coming among them; He remains undeterred in His single mission and purpose for the whole time He has here. Jesus has come into the world for an extremely short moment for now; and while He is here, there is no time He is not about His Father’s business; nor any time that the law of His God is not in His heart.
And finally, as brief a time as it was that Jesus was here; and how He used the time He had for doing good and blessing everywhere He went; He has left the care of the work with us to continue, in the same Spirit and love, until He returns; and has asked us to have the same love and care, for the same reasons, both in praying and doing. And as we have received from the Lord, we are called to share the same with everyone who will receive it. And if they do not receive nor hear our words; we have to shake off the dust of our feet and go on to the next place; and let everyone have their own choices.
We can only do our part, to give them warning from God, and announce the Glad Tidings of Christ, and be sure that we are true and faithful, and walking according to what we preach to others. Soon enough our time here will also be behind us; and we will only carry away in our hands our character and nature that we cultivated here, and the works we did, whether good or bad. And blessed are the merciful, for they shall find mercy. We should naturally care for, and have it as our single purpose in life, to be about the Lord’s business of bringing good and blessing, and doing what we can for the benefit of lost and hurting people.
We want the Lord to say of us, like He did about Mary of Bethany; You have the poor with you always, and whenever you like, you can do them good: but Me you have not always. She has done what she could! She has kept this for the day of My burial. Verily I say to you, wherever this Gospel is preached in all the world, this also that she has done, shall be told for a memorial of her. Mary wasn’t doing this to be seen by all the other disciples, or for any other reason, than that she loved the Lord, and had been listening carefully to everything He was saying; and did what she could to show Jesus the sincerity of her love, and that she believed in Him.

Three years in Alaska taught me an extreme value of wool. Stream fishing in 10 below zero, wearing cheap knitted 100% wool gloves, my constantly-wet hands stayed WARM the entire night. Not just “not cold” but WARM.
That was 40 years ago.. Try finding gloves, socks or anything with even 20% wool now.

We have several wool blankets handed down from my husbands grandparents.
Our kids are already fighting over which of them gets the blankets when my husband and I pass on.
These blankets have worn and worn and worn and are the warmest ever.
It is hard to find blankets nowdays that are woth anything when it comes to keeping a sleeping person warm in a cold climate.
I wear an old pair of Wool Mittens when snowblowing the driveway, they keep my fingers nice and Toasty.
They have been sown back together a bunch of times now.

Because I have listened definitely to one thing from God, it does not follow that I will listen to everything He says. The way in which I show God that I neither love nor respect Him is by the obtuseness of my heart and mind towards what He says. If I love my friend, I intuitively detect what he wants, and Jesus says, “Ye are My friends.” Have I disobeyed some command of my Lord’s this week? If I had realized that it was a command of Jesus, I would not consciously have disobeyed it; but most of us show such disrespect to God that we do not even hear what He says, He might never have spoken.
The destiny of my spiritual life is such identification with Jesus Christ that I always hear God, and I know that God always hears me (John xi. 41). If I am united with Jesus Christ, I hear God, by the devotion of hearing all the time. A lily, or a tree, or a servant of God, may convey God’s message to me. What hinders me from hearing is that I am taken up with other things. It is not that I will not hear God, but I am not devoted in the right place. I am devoted to things, to service, to convictions, and God may say what He likes but I do not hear Him. The child attitude is always, “Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth.” If I have not cultivated this devotion of hearing, I can only hear God’s voice at certain times; at other times I am taken up with things – things which I say I must do, and I become deaf to Him, I am not living the life of a child. Have I heard God’s voice today?

Many in the world have no idea what love awaits them – if they will ask the Lord.
Of course we cannot “see” each other here … and I could be catfishing all of you to get some perverse jollies for all you know. (I’m not). But words have meaning … and even the space between those words have meaning like the space between musical notes. Things said, and things unsaid. As part of my difficult upbringing, God taught me to discern who to trust and who to beware. I “read” people pretty quickly, and pretty accurately. It’s been a survival technique. Pro tip: people of true depth and love tend to NEVER advertise themselves as such. And Della … your soul shines through in your words … and you don’t come across as ‘fake pious’ … you have enough sense of humor to put up with my silliness and oft times risqué irreverence. There’s a “genuine” … balanced, circumspect, feel I get from you.
Just as I’d rather hang out with blue collar folk than my polished, haughty, white collar high-earning neighbors … I guess like Christ Himself … I’d rather hang out with sinners like you … who don’t pretend or put on airs … and who need God’s grace. I am glad to hear that Christ rescued you as surely as He performed more miracles in my life than I can count. God is good … if you let Him.

From the first pronouncement of the Gospel, after Adam and Eve were deceived in the Garden, the people of God have looked for a Savior (Genesis 3:15; Luke 2:25). The promised Messiah was spoken of and given many names in the Old Testament. In a recent article, Dr. Henry Morris of the Institute for Creation Research has focused on one… the Branch of the Lord.
In Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Zechariah, prophecies of the Messiah present Him as a branch, a king, and a servant (Isaiah 11:1; Zechariah 3:8; Jeremiah 23:5; Zechariah 6:12). Much had been taught about the coming of the Messiah, and many in Israel were waiting for Him. Simeon met Mary and Joseph in the temple as they brought Jesus to be presented to the Lord (Luke 2:27-32).
The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that this Child was God’s gift of salvation for His people.
Today’s passage emphasizes that hope comes from the Lord. Verse seven uses the word “redemption” to reference payment for sin… the reason for Christ’s coming. “Plentiful redemption” is a full and complete redemption for the iniquities of all. Simeon understood that.
Now that Christ has come and redeemed you from the wrath of God for your sin – He paid the full price in your place – you can be steadfast in your hope in the Lord and His plans for you. The Messiah has come. Pray for those who have yet to believe. Hope in the Lord! His promises are sure. The life to come will be eternal, with Him in all His glory.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
