A sweet story, if you will….in the early 80’s, my mom would stay with me when the husband was off in the North Atlantic chasing ruskies in a sub…our routine included dinner, dishes and settling down to watch reruns of MASH.
One episode with Hotlips, Hawkeye and BJ…trying to keep a soldier alive until the day after Christmas…so the family would not have the holiday as a memory of their loved one dying from war injuries…dying….left us both in tears….
Fast forward…25+ years…Mom passed the day after Christmas…I truly believe she held on ’til the day after (or waiting for me to get back there)…for that very same reason…
My car would not make the trip south…could not get a flight out of MDW or ORD…finally got one Christmas afternoon….she hung on for 24 more hours…
This TV show has a special place in my heart…as does Barney Miller, which came on after MASH….

By the way, they left out some details from the movie. “Painless” wasn’t the only nickname for the dentist. He was also called “Jawbreaker”. PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

Life can become daunting when you are unable to count on promises that were made yesterday to be fulfilled tomorrow. In the physical world, time marches forward in a linear fashion, but not so in the spiritual realm. In God’s Kingdom, the past is connected to the present and the future and it is all eternally linked together by a cross.
Biblical writers went to great lengths to help readers understand the infinite nature of God’s salvation. It was foretold across history and recorded in the Old Testament. When Jesus came on the scene, God’s promises were revealed and brought to life. Christ conquered death and, through His sacrifice, now offers all who believe the certain hope to inherit God’s promise of eternal life with Him in paradise.
The writer of Hebrews makes sure everyone realizes hope in Christ is for all time, not just today. “We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all” (Hebrews 10:10).
And Paul highlights the scope of God’s salvation, “I am sure neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor heights, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord“ (Romans 8:38-39).
Pray for God’s people in America to proclaim their secure hope in Christ. Intercede for the people of this nation to be encouraged in faith and navigate the political election season on the horizon well.
