1 Corinthians 10:11-14 “Now all these things happened to them for signs: and they are written for our warning, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Because of this, let him that thinks he stands take heed that he not fall. There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it. For this reason, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”

“Now all these things happened to them for signs: and they are written for our warning, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” What things? Israel’s deliverance from Egypt, and the giving of the Law and Priesthood, by the Blood of the Covenant, the Tabernacle in the wilderness; and the appointment of the land by lots to the twelve tribes of Israel. From the Exodus to Joshua bringing the people in to possess the land; all was done for a foretelling to the world, the coming of Christ and the everlasting kingdom of God; and that at the same time will be complete removal of all the wicked of the earth, and all causes of sin.

Although we are not given to know the day nor the hour; we are given to see and understand the signs of the times. For example, it was told to Abraham, that in the fourth generation the people would come forth; for, He said, the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet come to the full. We can take that as meaning the same as God showed Nebuchadnezzar, about the four kingdoms of the heathen and their idols: for it is during the fourth “generation” that the iniquity of the people of those abominations is coming to the full, and all restraint is taken away.

We who have been saved and taken from out of the world, out of the darkness and bondage of sin and ignorance of God, and the cruel dominion of Satan; we are on our way to being brought into our inheritance promised by the LORD: eternal life and possessing all the earth; the Lord being our God, and we His people dwelling with Him and seeing His face. Jesus Christ coming in the flesh, and giving His life a ransom for our sins, dying on the cross, being buried, and rising again the third day; this is what Israel’s deliverance from Egypt signifies.

The journey through the wilderness, for the giving of the law and the ordinances of the priesthood, is where we are right now; preparing for the world to come, when we will be given the kingdom and the dominion under the King of kings our Lord Jesus Christ, at His coming again. Another sign of this, was when Joshua was about to bring the people in to take the land, the “Angel of the LORD” appeared to him as the Captain of the hosts of the LORD, with His sword drawn. And Joshua seeing Him, knowing that it was Christ; fell on his face and worshiped.

Knowing that these things are the interpretation of the times which are now upon us; the message of the apostle is for us to beware of those things which overthrew the children of Israel, because they refused to be the people which their God called them to be; but continued in their stubborn and insubordinate way, rejecting the faith of their fathers.

Like them, we have all passed under the cloud and through the midst of the sea, and have been baptized unto the holy apostles and prophets, baptized into Christ. We have all eaten the same spiritual meat, and we have all drank the same spiritual drink; for we have drank from the water that came out of the Rock Christ. But with many of us, God is not well pleased; and He who knows our works, has not found some of our works perfect before God; and He has a number of things against the most of the churches. And now He comes, perhaps for the last time, to get us to set our lives and affairs in order, and repent; for the time is at hand.

What were the sins of the Israelites? Idolatry, fornication, tempting God, murmuring, turning back in their hearts to return to Egypt, listening to evil report about the land of promise, opposing and contradicting the LORD’s appointed servant Moses, whom He made their deliverer and leader and law giver. What are the sins of the churches today? How do we measure up to what the Lord saw in the seven churches in Revelation? For we are the anti-types of the children of Israel and the seven churches of Asia: “upon whom the ends of the world are come.”

Now to keep us from stretching beyond practical application of the Spirit’s admonition; Paul brings it all home to our real life experience; talking about how we should overcome these things; as they are only temptations common to man; and that when our hearts are perfect with the Lord and we are walking upright; fearing God and avoiding evil; God is faithful with the temptation, to make a way for us to escape. The point of the comparison being, that Israel’s heart was not perfect with the LORD, and they did not believe Him for all the miracles He had done before them; and they inclined rather to their sins and thinking like the heathens.

As we draw closer and closer to the end, restraint must be taken away from the ungodly; and a strong spirit of error holding their minds fixed against Jesus and His salvation. As we see the corruption taking hold on everyone everywhere, and the world becoming filled with violence; we will enter into the days foreseen by Habakkuk the prophet, of lawlessness and violence all around us, and judgment never going forth, and God absolutely silent, letting all these things come to the full. Men of great pride will be convinced that they are the upright ones; but it will be the righteous who will live by his faith; in other words, patiently enduring, bearing up under the wrongs, and abiding under subjection like Jesus did before the Sanhedrin and Pilate.

We will not be tempted above what we are able; and our Father is faithful, and will cut the days short for our sake. In the meantime, as long as He has set before us an opened door, no man can shut it. And if we will be faithful unto death, He will give us the crown of life. The next we will see, is the rider on the white horse with his weapons of war in his hand, going forth conquering, and to conquer, and given a crown; and all the deceitful promises of peace and prosperity for the destruction of the saints in the earth, and putting the whole kingdom and dominion in his hand; there shall all peace be taken from the earth, and much flesh being devoured. Out of that will be the weighing and measuring of the spirits of all who inhabit the earth; while provisions are rationed, still the gospel is not injured. Following, and under all these, is the pale horse and his rider, and hell following with him.

It is to these things, that Jesus has come to set His house in order, and prepare His people for this time. “There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

There is the Day Of Reckoning fast approaching, for the household of God first, and also for the world. if we live each day being accountable to God, and man; and under the view of His Throne of Judgment and the great kindness of His mercy, His grace will always be more than enough to see us through everything. And when we walk in the light as He is in the light, His blood cleanses us from all sin, and we will abide in fellowship with Him, and with one another.

If we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged with the world. But that will be one of the temptations of the last days, to be beguiled into believing that we will not be held accountable for what we have said and done. But we absolutely will be the FIRST with whom the Lord Jesus takes account when He comes! So we need to live every day as those who are giving account and deserving of the consequences; if we are to avail ourselves of His Great Salvation, which He purchased for us with His own blood.

Frey also pursued a solo career when the Eagles went on hiatus from 1980 to 1994, and during this time he released several successful singles including “The One You Love” (1982) and “Smuggler’s Blues” (1984).

As part of the Eagles, Frey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Together with the group, he also won six Grammy Awards and five American Music Awards.

Beware of anything that competes with loyalty to Jesus Christ. The greatest competitor of devotion to Jesus is service for Him. It is easier to serve than to be drunk to the dregs. The one aim of the call of God is the satisfaction of God, not a call to do something for Him. We are not sent to battle for God, but to be used by God in His battlings. Are we being more devoted to service than to Jesus Christ?

And often, people have no one available or able to offer support.

Long ago, I discovered a Bible verse which taught me to seek God FIRST for encouragement. And He provides an abundance. If someone else offers it, that’s “icing on the cake.”

Awhile back, searching youtube for another of Garrison’s excellent curative picks, I came across this man, Charles Trepat. I found this concert which I have returned to many times since.

It is, for me, the single greatest recorded classical guitar live performance I’ve ever listened to. If you listen closely you will hear the most incredible adornments and interpretive mastery you can imagine. I don’t understand it – its like something has taken over his conscientiousness.

If I could go back in time I would pay a thousand dollars to have been there that evening in person.

What is your attitude as you approach each new day? Do you awake grateful for another day of life? Or do you groan at the thought of the things that did not get done yesterday that require your attention? Do you bound out of bed, eager to see what the day has in store? Or do you stumble around until the caffeine from your morning coffee kicks in?

Not everyone can have the attitude of David Brainerd, an 18th-century American minister and missionary to Native Americans in New Jersey. Though he died at a young age of tuberculosis, he made a profound impact on his church and his community. At one point, he is said to have told Jonathan Edwards, of the “Great Awakening” movement, “I do not go to heaven to be advanced but to give honor to God. It is no matter where I shall be stationed in heaven, whether I have a high seat or a low seat there. My heaven is to please God and glorify Him, and give all to Him, and to be wholly devoted to His glory.”

Brainerd’s attitude and his life were centered on pleasing God—anywhere, any time. 

Would a diary of your days show a similar intent? Follow the admonition of Psalm 19:14 and let your words and thoughts be acceptable to the Lord. Then, as Hebrews 13:16 reminds you, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Draw near to God, for without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). So walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him (Colossians 1:10).

 Pray for followers of Christ serving in government to always seek first to please the Lord, for which they will be rewarded with understanding and wisdom.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
