But this is a hazard of paying people to be your religious leaders. We can’t have paid sermons and paid missionaries, paid administering to the sick and the poor, we can’t even have houses of worship without some means of gathering the funds to do so.
And when the means are personal, we must publicly motivate and encourage giving. And what better way to do that than selecting relevant verses and weaving them into a passionate plea for giving?
I am actually surprised that Malachi’s promise of the Windows of Heaven being opened and poured upon tithe payers wasn’t included.
I actually think that there is a greater meaning to some of these scriptures. Just why would we sow gold, if we want to harvest souls? You reap what you sow.
And Malachi’s promise is so easily distorted into a prosperity gospel. Or even worse, using wealth as an indication of God’s salvation. As if people like Bill Gates and Elon Musk are most approved by God because He has given them more than almost anyone else.
Well, I have wandered far from the Fundraising for God shtick. But don’t forget, God is asking much more from us than just some money. Money is necessary, but it is not sufficient.
Which brings me back to Jesus leaving the 99 to save one…..
It is our relationship with our Saviror…

I had an interesting conversation lunchtime conversation with two dear friends of mine. The discussion concerned Ukraine . . . They’re collective view was that the US and NATO had no business dealing with the Ukranian
opposition to the Russian invasion . . . I argued, instead, that when the first Russian tank crossed the Ukranian border—everything changed.
What happened was a popular uprising of the Ukrainian people who collectively decided that they would resist the Russian invasion of their territory.
The Ukranian people do not want to be Russian.
In Ukraine, a free people have collectively decided to resist an invasion of their territory. My friends argued that we had no business being there. I, on the other hand, argued that we have a moral obligation to assist free people defending their freedom and liberty against an invader. We have a moral obligation to help them defend themselves again Russian tyranny.

Interesting tale about Def Leppard’s drummer, the one who lost his left arm and re-trained himself to operate his drum kit with a foot pedal to actuate the snare drum and continued his career with them
He was drunk driving and rolled his sports car, likely with his left arm out the window. His arm was ripped off, not severed or cut but pulled off at the shoulder joint.
Rescuers got him to the hospital and what surgeons had to work with was that all his nerves had detached at his hands and were hanging down at his side like a 3-ft bundle of linguine.
They rolled up all the strings into a ball and sewed them into his shoulder where they closed the wound over top of them.
They did this in case future medical advances came about that would be able to utilize the nerves in an artificial limb, bionic-man style.
I don’t think he’s taken advantage of them to this date, but I describe it to illustrate the forward-thinking of the medical professionals.

Israel Update :
This is a different kind of update. I got sucked into one subject which is “the US pressure on Israel” which I think is important enough to expand on it. Otherwise there is not much news.
–A correction. Yesterday I thought that the Secretary of State Blinken already arrived to Israel but he is actually arriving tomorrow. It’s his fifth visit. The purposes of the visit are:
To verify that Israel is starting the less powerful stage of the war.
It’s the phase three of special raids instead of a powerful war. This phase has already started at least at the North.
He also wants to stop the fightings at the north of Israel with Hezbollha and open negotiations for a political agreement to move Hezbollah away from the border and enable residents come back home. Israel practically is in phase three in the north and the Americans want it to be announced publicly as to make it easier for Hezbollah to come to an agreements. The US keeps saying they “don’t want to see the war expand to the north”.
He also wants to improve the humanitarian aide to Gaza. Foreign Minister of Germany also expressed a wish to improve the aide to Gaza. He also wants to discuss “the day after the war”. Apparently he will try to persuade moderate Arab countries to participate in the processes that Gaza will have to go through. The US wants also to make sure the Palestinian Authority will have a part in the rehab of Gaza.
Note: I only wish that the report above is not precise because it caused anger.
I read it in a relatively center left outlet and even there the comments were very upset. Unfortunately it’s probably not false. We in Israel consider it a humiliation that we need to be managed on how to fight our war. I have never seen anything like this in the history of my almost 60 years of life. Never did the US got involved in how to fight a war and every stage and restraining tactical steps that will result in loss of IDF soldiers. I don’t know of a case in history that a nation in war was providing massive aide to an enemy, not to mention that our hostages don’t get aide not even seen by the Red Cross. This fuel (aide) is keeping the tunnels ventilated and operational.
I will avoid quotations of the comments by Israelis about all this because it’s not pleasant. There is anger at the US. But we know it’s the Biden Administration.
We were humiliated and annihilated on 10/7 and this is more humiliation.
He(Blinken) also wants Israeli government to make statements against encouraging immigration of Palestinians from Gaza. Because a couple of government members said that “it would be a good idea to encourage Gazans to immigrate.”
Well, Israel is a democracy and people can tell their opinion. It is not the position of the government. If this war will not go to where it should I can tell you that we the people will throw the government out without a second thought. I said before that “the spirit” is the key to winning a war more than anything, and the soldiers have the spirit so I am optimistic.
But when the “spirit of the people” is tormented with death and torture and rape of our brothers and sisters it is not less important for the leadership to make it a priority to restore the national pride. Today I watched a video about the life of Menachem Begin the Prime Minister. At one point at the beginning of the 80s he took the decision to invade Lebanon after the PLO terror organization that was in Lebanon crossed the lines with a terror attack. After quite some years the air force developed a solution to the disaster of the Yom Kipur war of 1973. In that war, aside from surprise, the enemy managed to shoot down a large % of the Israeli Air Force with the use of Russian surface to air missiles.
So now Israel faced the might of the Syrian military in Lebanon. And the Israeli Air force Force managed to destroy all the Syrian anti aircraft missiles in a brilliant operation and managed to shoot down many MiGs. In the interview someone close to Begin said that “Begin considered that one of the more important advantages of the war aside for striking terrorists was the “restoration of the national pride”. It somewhat put an end to the trauma of the Yom Kipur war.”
Israeli Prime Ministers had to act against US State Department pressures for many decades and when they did so everyone wins including the US.
Example: Begin attacked the nuclear reactor of Saddam Husain in Iraq. He did so against the State Department of the US. They condemned Israel.
Looking back we see that it was the right thing to do for everyone.
Israel resisting the decades long pressures of the US to form a Palestinian State is beneficial because otherwise we would be facing a possible annihilation. If we face a loss of a war it would be very bad for the US who may have to send troops on the ground or simply lose its best ally in the area. Israel in the 1967 borders is indefensible. It is only 6 miles from the Palestinian area to the Mediterranean Sea at the narrowest location. So you can cut Israel in half in no time. Palestine would also oversee the International Airport which is a strategic place. etc….
My opinion is that we must somehow have influence over their education and incitement and wait for a more peaceful generation. Until then they can manage their own lives but we control the security. If they were peaceful then they can have a state. Until then we will “live on the sword.”
This was my rant. I hope it was not too much for you. But it seems to be the most important thing. Bibi will have to hold his position. There were presidents who held positions.
Biden may be facing a loss of votes because his positions “seem too pro Israel” in the eyes of the Progressive stream of the DNC. But I believe that a blunt turn against Israel will cost him even more votes. I know Israel gets a large majority support with Republican voters.
But there are many (millions) in the other side who also care about Israel.
-Very intense bombardments in Khan Yunis South Gaza. I mean very intense for hours which cause many to try and guess why? Some 30 targets.
-The son of the Chief Gaza Editor of Al Jazeera was killed in a bombardment His father mildly injured too. He was a journalist. Israel is saying that he was together with a drone operator.
-Heavy bombardment at South Lebanon. Making it hard to be there.

I don’t like to say it out loud what I really think about the character and trustworthiness of the “U.S.” Too much criminal mentality is the accepted normal for a long time; so that even when the last remaining traces of a moral conscience are forced to the surface because of a horror of evil, like 10/7; it can’t last long, because there are simply “other agendas” that must take precedent. Case in point; Blinken shuttling back and forth to keep a short reins on Israel, and not upset the “stakeholders.”

It’s not even sure that Bibi will stay that long. If he doesn’t get the expected end result of the war in acceptable time he will not survive the position. I arrived on July 4 1973 and left on July 3 1974.
I almost became an Israeli.
I had a romance with an Israeli that lasted from approximately August 1973 until I left.
He was 24 years old and was called back to the reserves on Yom Kippur.
He would come back to Jerusalem from the Sinai front to see me fairly often.
Since he was Russian, he was helping read the Russian labeling on the boxes of weapons recovered from the Egyptians.
Then he was wounded and I visited him in the hospital and rest home where he finished recovering.
It was such an important year for me.
I learned a lot about a lot, including love, patience, truth, patriotism, unity.
btw: Israel gave all of the foreign students and visitors a chance to leave for the first couple days of the YK War …and were very clear with us that after that Israel could not say exactly when we’d be able to leave.
Almost NONE of us took that offer. I was very glad I stayed.

He was a high ranking officer reserves and had a lot to offer from his experience in fighting and commanding (WW2, War of Independence, Six day war, war of Attrition). I remember the jets in the skies, the sirens, the military cars and trucks on the roads, the death posters by the apartments of the fallen, the call in codes read on radio and TV, the stress, the preparations of putting tape on glass windows, the darkening of the homes at night so they are not visible to enemy jets, the going down to shelters under our building, the US Kissinger pressuring Israel to let the Egyptian army survive when they were surrounded (my father was home at that stage was pissed off I remember), the knowledge of families who lost people or were captured, and the unity.

This incident is a picture of the blunder we make in thinking that the final thing God wants of us is the sacrifice of death. What God wants is the sacrifice THROUGH death which enables us to do what Jesus did, viz., sacrifice our lives. Not – I am willing to go to death with Thee, but – I am willing to be identified with Thy death so that I may sacrifice my life to God. We seem to think that God wants us to give up things! God purified Abraham from this blunder, and the same discipline goes on in our lives. God nowhere tells us to give up things for the sake of giving them up. He tells us to give them up for the sake of the only thing worth having – viz., life with Himself. It is a question of loosening the bands that hinder the life, and immediately those bands are loosened by identification with the death of Jesus, we enter into a relationship with God whereby we can sacrifice our lives to Him.
It is of no value to God to give Him your life for death. He wants you to be a “LIVING sacrifice,” to let Him have all your powers that have been saved and sanctified through Jesus. This is the thing that is acceptable to God.

the color bar reference across the bottom … take for example the green numbers… does the -9 to -13 mean that is the degree change/the anomaly?? Like the temp will be abnormally colder by those numbers of degree??

As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Idan Amedi is an iconic Israeli singer. He is one of the most loved figures in Israel and also a good actor (If you watched Fauda on Netflix). He is also a combat engineer and was in Gaza a couple of months.
Yesterday he was on TV encouraging the nation and today he got badly injured in an explosion. He is a sleep and with oxygen connected. His father suggested that he probably will not die but in such conditions you never know.
I took it quite hard because I love both his music and his personality. A true patriot. As such a celebrity he could have been dismissed if he wanted to. But yesterday on TV he said “they are willing to stay until it’s done”.
I am asking for your prayers as all of Israel are prying for him at this moment. Below is a song in his performence .
