Ooh, evidence of translations changing theology.
But how do we know which translation is right?
More importantly, can a little word choice make such a big difference? ‘In’ hope versus ‘by’ hope?

Me, I am pondering the earlier part of that second paragraph. Can creation hope? {If I believe the moon hopes for salvation, does that make me a luna(tic)?}
Is this hope necessary from the one receiving salvation? (I.e. a work). Or is it from the one granting salvation? (a gift). This latter question changes how one would read 8:24
How do “we” know?
It’s four inspired koine Greek words in the original.
One either knows the Biblical language or he doesn’t.
Those who do — like the scholars behind virtually every contemporary Bible not tethered to 1611 — have made the correction.
Even the NKJV recognizes and corrected the KJV’s error.
As for the rest… I’m way ahead of you friend. But I’ve seen similar snarky responses from you before. Sophistry in sacred matters doesn’t impress me.
I did add snark. Even aimed it at myself. Sometimes serious things need levity.
There is so much that comes between the original and what we do have, that it sometimes makes it difficult to say that we have the original. Not that I am an expert, but I haven’t seen that applied to Romans. Even most sceptics of Paul’s epistles accept his authorship of Romans. Or at least his dictating it. Nor have I seen questions about missing parts or added insertions, or even someone stitching together multiple letters of Paul and passing it off as a single letter. At least not Romans.
Though that may just be stuff I haven’t seen yet instead of stuff that doesn’t exist. I have definitely seen these things about other New Testament books.
The implications towards sacred matters are tremendous. These things get compounded by all the different translations. Even small matters can make a big difference.
Christianity is full of these differences. Ever since the Bible has been available to the people, we have been splitting ourselves apart based on these differences.
I find it difficult navigating all these influences.
I come out of a KJV quoting tradition. I have read about the committees and about the sources they had available. We probably will not find an English translation that is more beautiful. I also know that new sources have been made available. Sources that they didn’t have, so we know better now. And that James wanted it as propaganda. The earlier translations were being used to discredit the Anglican Church. And that it came to dominance because England only permitted the Authorized translation to be printed. Even in America, the KJV came to dominance. I even know that there was no apostle James. He was Jakob. Geez, changing an apostle’s name just to butter up a king.
That leaves me stuck between “the KJV is the word of God” and the scholarly research that shows differently. But the scholarly research doesn’t stop with discrediting the KJV. There is very little of sacred matters that are left standing if you put your trust in scholarly research. All the scholars that write for the public are just oozing out their varied agendas. Not people to put trust in.
John 7:17 “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.”
Psalms 19:7 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”
Matthew 13:10-15 “And the disciples came, and said unto Him, Why speakest Thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”
Has not God rejected the wise and prudent and “reputed experts” of the world; and rather revealed Himself to babes? Jesus didn’t tell any of His followers to Go, join the university, and get your degrees! NO! What He told them, was that if they love Him, keep His commandments; and the Father would send the Holy Spirit to help them, and to teach them all things and guide them into all truth.
When the Pharisees and enemies of the Lord were coming to stop the apostles from teaching the people in the Name of Jesus; they took note of them, that they had BEEN WITH JESUS.
If we want to have discernment, and to be able to know what is, and what is not of God; we have to have His Spirit and abide in Him, and prove ourselves worthy of His trust, to reveal Himself more to us.
All the arguing and debate about which are the “real” Scriptures; none of the wise men of Babylon can know. But there is a God who reveals secrets, and takes close counsel with His servants who walk before Him with a perfect heart.
As it is written, “Ever learning, and NEVER ABLE to come to the knowledge of the truth:” which refers to those who have a form of piety, but deny its power; and who, like Pharaoh’s magicians, always stand to oppose the real servant of God, whom He has sent to bring His people out of bondage. But, as the apostle affirms, They shall proceed no further; for their folly shall be exposed before all men.
If you continue, that is, ABIDE, in My word, then you are My disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free [FROM SIN]. – Jesus, John ch. 8
What’s quite interesting, is how those who scoff and criticize, and cast doubt; can’t really say from experience, about really knowing the Lord and walking with Him.

I would like to jump in here. When concerned about translations, Bible versions, etc… I rely on the Scriptures about “adding to” or “taking away from” the words and meanings.
We are warned against such.
We are also promised understanding of Scriptures in due time and as Holy Spirit leads… which can be understood as reading a Scripture one year that doesn’t necessarily “land in our mind or understanding”… yet reading the same Scripture a year later under different circumstances.. makes the Scripture suddenly most pertinent and meaningful in an “a ha” moment.
God helps us mercifully to understand when we need to and also draws forth Scriptures from memory when their application is a tool in our faith tool belt in times of teaching or great adversity.
If we commit our ways to the Lord, He Will make our paths straight.
No need to fight about it or debate… there’s so much greater matters at hand and we all stand in unity against the powers of darkness which serve to separate us one from another.
We walk in confidence that we love God with all our hearts and pray for understanding and those who would purposefully distort or lead others astray will pay heavy penalties when they stand before God in judgement.

Somebody did exactly that to the ending of Mark. Modern scholars claim that 16:9-20 was ‘added’. They cite manuscripts from the 4th century.
But Church fathers quoted those verses from the 2nd through the 4th centuries. So, were they ‘taken away’?

I agree. That verse alone, being cited in that context was probably not the best choice to support the concept.
But in context with the rest of Romans 8, and looking at Strongs Concordance (#G1680), it’s not altogether incorrect given its usage there.
ἐλπίς – elpis – expectation of good, hope, in the Christian sense – joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation

12/30/2023 – We are not appointed in this time, to take Jesus by force, and make Him a king in this world
John 6:14-15 “Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take Him by force, to make Him a king, He departed again into a mountain Himself alone.”
It seems to some a great mystery how much the Lord Jesus commanded those who had been healed, to “tell no one!” or His closest friends and disciples, which had been given a special vision from God, and with whom He closely confided the most important truths around what He had to do; to “tell no man this thing!” For while healing and deliverance, and the working of miracles are intrinsic to the kingdom of heaven having come to us; why, at a certain point, did Jesus decisively begin to withdraw, and to disallow any more to be told to the people? What had occurred to change His willingness; so as not to reveal any more to the people? For it might have been natural to think, as Jesus’ unbelieving brothers put it, that if He really wanted His message to get out, He wouldn’t be telling anyone to keep it secret: supposing that their older brother was only trying to make Himself a great one.
John 7:4-5 “For there is no man that does any thing in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world. For neither did his brethren believe in him.”
And that was part of the answer right there: Jesus wasn’t going about trying to make a name for Himself, or to be some great one. The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, is the most meek, and the very expression of the humility of God; and NOTHING He does is ever for self and base gain. With respect to everything concerning this life; we have to learn, that neither our possessions, nor our reputation in the world, nor all that we count most dear of family and friends and our own life also, are what makes us accepted and approved of God; nor have any of these things power to define us as living souls made in the image of God. None of what the world esteems as important and that we cannot live without, is the meaning of our life; but to know and understand God, and to be able to communicate the same to others; by love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and unfeigned faith. We have to learn what it means, that “the hour having come for the Son of man to be glorified,” it is necessary for the grain of wheat falling into the ground, to die; that it may bring forth much fruit.
Matthew 12:17-20 “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Behold My Servant, whom I have chosen; My Beloved, in whom My soul is well pleased: I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall show judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear His voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall He not break, and smoking flax shall He not quench, till He send forth judgment unto victory.”
But what I believe added to this, was the fact, that for all the miracles He was doing before them, they did not believe in Him; and for all His wisdom and soul penetrating teaching, both in word and deed; they still did not repent. And as he advised His apostles, so did He as well before them: in that, when they do not hear you, nor receive your words in one place, shake off the dust of your feet, and go on to the next. Verily I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of Judgment, than for that city.
I have heard some say, that the healings and miracles were for advertising the gospel; and so many, many false prophets and false evangelists, have taken it as Marketing Strategy, in their money making scams, which they have pulled on innumerable gullible and stupid Christians; who believe that miracles are an absolute and indisputable proof, that this or that person is a servant of God. And the sin is in their being willingly deceived; because they will not check them against the Scriptures and the Spirit of God and the complete context of the will of God throughout the Bible.
Now with respect to this particular thing that they tried to do with Jesus, to take Him by force and make him a king; we have to understand what is really behind it; and why every idea of this nature is categorically rejected by God; and shows nothing of all that the prophets and messengers of God have ever taught. Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world; and there is no way that any number of misguided believers will be able to force; neither upon the world of the ungodly, nor upon God Himself, to prosper their adventure. We are not appointed in this time, to take Jesus by force, and make Him a king in this world. We are here to bear witness to the truth and grace of Jesus Christ in our lives; and to preach and teach the things of the coming kingdom, that men should repent and prepare for that day.

We will cling to the natural virtues, while all the time God is trying to get us into contact with the life of Jesus Christ which can never be described in terms of the natural virtues. It is the saddest thing to see people in the service of God depending on that which the grace of God never gave them, depending on what they have by the accident of heredity. God does not build up our natural virtues and transfigure them, because our natural virtues can never come anywhere near what Jesus Christ wants. No natural love, no natural patience, no natural purity can ever come up to His demands. But as we bring every bit of our bodily life into harmony with the new life which God has put in us, He will exhibit in us the virtues that were characteristic of the Lord Jesus.

Daughter is still on vacation until January 9th. Glad for her for her time away from communist programming.
On a super fun note, we were at Menards (the hardware store!) and found the full box set of “Little House on the Prairie” for $60. Daughter snapped it up with her own money for the full nine seasons. Americana in a box ours for posterity and winter binging.
I agree…it’s going to be a hard year. And not just for us! The tech and digital world is changing so fast I can’t hardly keep up. I used to be on top of new software but I’m tired haha! Too many new tricks and hacks! I’ve a feeling it’s going to pass me up. And a part of me doesn’t care…because the powers that be, have gotten control of the world and what I can manage to understand doesn’t matter. Sad!
Yes, Stevie… I see it, too. I for one want no part in the trickery of software evolution, the instability, and maneuverability. I want none of my fingerprints on it, nor do I want to stand between someone else who is less than pure and the government. I wish to remain innocent and have no part in evil ways.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

If you listened to the global leaders who attended the recent United Nations COP28 event, then you heard that glaciers are shrinking at an alarming rate and that losses of Arctic ice are up 75 percent compared to ten years ago. Their prognostications indicate Planet Earth is nearing a catastrophic end. Climate change… is that an indicator that Jesus may be returning soon?
Certainly, the return of the Savior is closer than it has ever been, but there is no Biblical evidence that His return will come due to glaciers melting. In Matthew 24:6-8, Jesus says, “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.”
So, as you see that day approaching, what are you to do? Today’s verse says to stay awake. Be alert to what is happening, have a plan for dealing with catastrophes (those who live in hurricane- or tornado-prone areas already know how), have hope, and always be prepared to share God’s love with others.
When you face tribulation, remember that Jesus said this would happen (John 16:33), but He lovingly reminds you that He has overcome the world, and He is trustworthy!
You are coming to the end of a year, but probably not at the end of the world… yet. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Ephesians 6:10), for it is only in His mighty power that you will have the strength to endure.

The mural depicts the trial of Chief Wamapoke in the 1830s. He was sadly accused of being Indian—which was a crime in those early days for Pawnee—and tied to a tree to wait for his death. What happened was outrageous and grossly unfair, and must never be allowed to happen again.
More than 100 other media outlets ran similarly bizarre and nonsensical headlines based on Fisman’s study while the Canadian Parliament used it as “evidence” to lock people down at home, shut down small businesses, and force the public into masking and getting “vaccinated” for COVID.
“In speaking to reporters about his flawed study, Fisman explained that the unvaccinated should not have a choice to remain as such because they are “creating risk for those around you.”
How an unvaccinated person could ever pose any kind of threat to a vaccinated person remains unknown since the shots are supposed to provide immunity to disease. Is Fisman admitting that vaccines do nothing to protect one’s health?”
It was all so cruel. Can’t work, can’t go into shops, ostracised by society, and people saying that you deserved to die.
And it was all just a punishment for not following orders – dangerous orders. For me it is ongoing as I am STILL not allowed to work in my field of 20 years.

Here’s a little under reported Supreme Court news.
To close out 2023, The United States Supreme Court quietly ruled earlier this month to throw out lower appellate district court rulings that challenged President Biden’s Covid-19 vaccine mandates for public employees and the Armed Forces, which effectively strips away any future precedent to challenge any future vaccine mandates.

Twice on this vacation, I’ve screwed up royally with local sourced beef roasts.
Made the first one in the form of a homemade Vegetable Beef Soup. Left on the counter to cool for storage and forgot about it until the next morning. Threw it out.
Second, made a Harvest Beef Pot Roast out of a large roast served with potatoes and veg. Added Amish Egg Noodles for Beef and Noodles to the remaining 3 lbs of roast for freezing. Left on stove top to cool… forgot about it overnight and had to throw it out!!!
Today, not trusting myself, I made a small single setting batch of Homemade Turkey Noodle Soup, as we are nursing small colds… no doubt from playing amongst 9,000 parents and children from Wednesday at the Children’s Museum.
I’m a huge fan of citrus when nursing a cold. So this soup has the following in it… this time NOT to be left on the stove for cooling… and forgetting it. Uuuugh!!
Turkey (Chicken) Noodle Soup
1/2 lb leftover frozen cooked turkey, diced
1 medium carrot, diced
1 medium celery, diced
2 tablespoons butter
2 bay leaves
48 oz filtered water
1 large lemon
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 small chicken bouillon cubes
1 handful Amish Noodles
In stock pot, sautee chopped carrots, celery, and turkey (chicken) in butter until veggies are tender. Add 3 bouillon cubes, spices, to the stock pot and blend them into the butter and veg and turkey until the bouillon breaks apart. Add water. Add lemon, rind and all, cut up into six large pieces to the broth. Bring to boil. Add Amish noodles and lower heat to simmer, slight boil, and cook for about 30 minutes.
Serves 3 for hearty bowls or 4 for dinner side bowls.
We had our soup with Naan bread with leftover smoked salmon creamed cheese. Creamed cheese was $3.89 for single brick and $5.89 for two bricks… generic not available. Highway robbery, but wasn’t about to let good smoked salmon go to waste… so $6 for creamed cheese it was.
On a side note… scored Blue Bell Great Divide Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream for $6.99… reduced price from $8.99… into the freezer it goes for future indulgence

Gosh darn it anyways sis! That’s heartbreaking work just to throw it away! I’ve had a few days off these last two weeks of the year and I can’t even tell you that I was creative enough to cook some meals. I’ve been slumming…a treat that I rarely get to enjoy…and I’ve done it without a guilty conscience haha! Got some big projects completed and off my to-do list which created more organization for the coming year…which I’m not ready to start! Obstacles loom? The plan is based on fantasy! The plan has the Palestinian Authority in charge of Gaza. Besides the PA’s stated goal of annihilating Israel, it has 1% support among Palestinians. 60% support Hamas, but that isn’t going to happen. I won’t know the Truth of the accusations against him until I am no longer alive + in this world.
Let’s assume the accusations he wasn’t here to defend against were 100% True…

The man spent a lifetime traveling in some of the most dangerous places on Earth – especially for someone teaching Christianty.
He’s the best at bringing the Bible to intellectuals or the average person I’ve ever heard.
Paul traveled like that. Paul also tortured Christians to force them to renounce Jesus + would turn them over to the authorities for execution if they refused to deny God… He murdered Christians before being converted himself…
Solomon was the west human ever. God favored him. Even as a Believer – Solomon had countless wives + concubine + eventually brought worship of foreign gods into the capital + the Temple. He set the conditions for the splitting of the kingdom.
I can tolerate Non-Believers who think they have struck a heavy blow against the Bible + Christianity by ridiculing a Ravi Zacharias after accusations like this.
I’m far less forgiving with Christians who say they know the Bible who follow their lead.
Any person who is doing God’s work, especially helping save souls – will come under attack from the forces of evil. And most will fail at something because as Paul taught, nothing good is in this human flesh. We are all weak somewhere at sometime. That’s why we need a Pure Savior to pay the price for us…
I give it a 75% chance minimum that – if Mr Zacharias had been only so-so at teaching God’s Will – all of his mp3 Archives would still be online…
The Bible teaches – even every Christian will have to give account for every careless word + every sinful thought.
God knows fully whatever Mr Zacharias did + he will answer for it in front of the only Perfect Being ever in existence.
I sincerely don’t want to face that for myself…. but will have to…
