Michael Cohen gives the judge fake citations of court cases, in order to decrease his supervised parole. He is not an ethical man obviously, nor have his legal troubles taught him anything.

Social security was sold to the public with the propaganda that it was akin to a pension. It is not.
To further that misconception, it was designed to be calculated on amounts that the household wage earner (assumed to be the husband) paid in. But it’s a welfare entitlement, funded by a tax on the lowest incomes. At first, just like the income tax, the tax was minimal, but then had the inevitable feature creep (medicare, medicaid, SSI) and continued increases in the amounts taxed as well as the amounts paid out.
Moreover, it doesn’t actually correlate to what was paid in when one considers that, e.g. a recent spouse, even of a wealthy individual, who paid in little or nothing can collect on the deceased’s contributions, whereas a long-time working spouse who also paid in does not get the benefit of two workers’ “accounts” when the spouse dies; e.g. a single person who drops dead prematurely before retirement has lost it all and can’t leave his “account” to anyone.
The social security taxes are a ponzi scheme in which the tax on more and more of the lowest wages (including youngsters’) go into the general revenue — not some special kind of fund — and from which general revenue the old-age and disability welfare is paid.
Too many people — including those who don’t need this welfare but get it in order to preserve the pretense that it is akin to some kind of pension — fully believe in the decades-long lie. “I paid in, so I’m entitled.” That propaganda has worked well, and unfortunately, this prevents a realistic reform of the system, such as lowering the rate of the tax but spreading it across all income (and not just sweat i.e. “earned” income), or making payouts more akin to an insurance program with a means test.

Congress has been robbing from the trust fund ever since the first highly publicized “balanced budget” in the late 70s.
Contrary to the half truths being presented, there was indeed a separate fund set aside, one which had restrictions on its use. Here is the direct wording from the creating documents.

It’s not “savings” of any kind. E.g. If you die before retirement, it’s all lost. E.g. conversely, early “contributors” have received way way more than they ever would have been entitled to as “savings” (why the ponzi scheme and need for more and more funding by current workers).

In a small town where my parents retired, there were a fair number of older ladies whose husbands (many of them WW2 veterans) had passed on and whom had stayed home and worked to maintain the home and raise their children, who depended upon said survivor benefits to scrape by, too often having to work in a factory for a few days a month to make ends meet – while in their late 70s and early 80s. Those small factories have now all moved overseas.
In the meantime I saw people who sat on their exceptionally broad backsides and never contributed in any positive way collecting far more from the government, just as the illegal aliens are doing under Brandon’s regime of terror.
Understand you have a burr in your saddle about SS and there is a decent list of things that could be done to correct a lot of issues – but your continual twisting of facts, propaganda, and choice of terms intended to invoke negative views are the exact kind of things that either you accuse others of or cause people to shutdown and it does absolutely nothing positive.

IRAs are private and you can personally direct which stocks, commodities, bonds, or ETF’s you buy into and hopefully avoid which ones that Blackrock, etc has ‘their’ fingers in.
401ks though are another matter, where many, if not most or all, only offer mutual funds or ETFs where ‘they’ direct your investment, plus charging fees.
It’s the 401ks that are the problem. These programs are being ‘managed’ for the employees and the HR departments of most companies are in bed with the firms managing those accounts. They limit to where you can invest your retirement funds to ‘their’ benefit.
My small company allowed the participants to invest in any stocks, bonds, etfs, etc; for a small fee.
I think you may be one the more fortunate, rarer ones.
I’ve heard of some like that but most of the larger companies go the other way, like mine.
A couple of years ago, I stopped the withholding and transferred all to my private accounts.
Have done just fine even without the matching contributions.
Your last paragraph is the exact reason I offered my employees a Simple 401K plan. I matched their contributions up to 3% of their gross monthly.
The beauty of a Simple is that I, or my company NEVER administrated anything. You tell me where you want the money sent and that is the last I had to do with it, of course as long as it met the IRS criteria.
Bottom line – I couldn’t steal your retirement.
If you are in a company under 100 employees and the company controls your retirement, you are about to be screwed.
Seen it happen in both retirement and health plans. Many companies will eventually try to steal that money. They may not start out that way, but when it is their survival vs your retirement. You will lose. Desperate people make desperate decisions. You will not even know until it has happened.

When you withdraw money from a 401 k they deduct 20 percent for taxes.
If you withdraw $100,000 that is $20,000 tax off the top.
However, once you receive the money you have 60 days to roll it over into a new 401k, thus protecting it from becoming taxable income.
So, from $100,000 you get $80,000, roll it back into a 401k, and the $20,000 you were taxed will likely be refunded to you for overpayment of tax. It takes time, but you can get your money out of a 401k tax free by playing this game .
That return and annual raise combo is enormous.

Imo, there is a way to allow younger workers to privatize at least some of their accounts that would work and improve the system.
I’m not saying these clowns could ever pull that off.
Social Security is an earned pension. However, it was never intended to be the sole source of someone’s retirement. It was always intended as a supplant to someone’s retirement income. There has always been a misunderstanding on this.
You could also think of it similar to other insurance programs. You pay homeowner insurance in case of a fire, etc. Some people benefit (house burns down) and some don’t.
There have been talks in the past for partial privatization (part is invested at person’s direction). That portion could also be designated as an inheritance to pass to survivors. Something to think about.

Teachers pay 7.7% of their income annually into the pension fund.
As a teacher retired from a different state, I can tell you that it isn’t worth it. If I had my life to live over, I would not teach a single day. I still have anxiety attacks from flashbacks.
A reason you see teachers’ and other public employees pensions go up and up, is that the politicians can then put their cronies in patronage positions and benefit from those generous pensions.
The teachers don’t make as much as the higher-ups in the system.
Since 1982 all new federal hires are under Social Security not the old civil service plan. They deduct a small percentage to the older plan, but under FERS (federal empolyee retirement system) they have the SSA tax withheld from their pay.
(Is it real money that is going towards SSA? Or is it just a payroll deduction? Does the government pay the matching amount as private business does? Or does just make am accounting entry?)

My separate retirement income 401k with my employer nearly doubled from the beginning of the lockdowns until the time that FJB was inaugurated. That was THANKS TO PRESIDENT DONALD J TRUMP. I was looking great for my separate retirement income!!!
BUT! FJB took over and everything has turned to garbage. My separate retirement income barely holds even and sometimes loses money but I have to do more than a savings account which loses money because of inflation.
So yeah, I get the theory of separate retirement income. But when one president can destroy all of the gains of another president then that makes it nearly impossible to PLAN for the future.
I for one am grateful for SS. My hospital that I worked dumped its pension and replaced it with crap.

I have experienced the same with three separate employers while working through my 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Hired on with pension, then pensions frozen or cancelled. Folks above a certain age got grandfathered full or mostly full pension, we just under the age(different at each co)got a measly $1000/year of employment.

Social Security has always been just an income tax withholding. Social Security benefits are a “gift” from Congress. Example if you die and have no dependents before you attain retirement age all that is paid out is the $255 towards the funeral. That goes to the funeral home.
The so-called Social Security Trust Fund is composed only as a debt instrument. The Fund represents what the government already used for whatever it needed: WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, interstate highways, Nasa, etc.
Social Security benefits are paid out and this is compared to what SSA taxes were paid and any excess tax was lent to the government and it issued a bond to the FUND. Right now the Fund is being depleted and the benefits being paid “from it” are general revenue or money raised when it issues debt through government bond financing.
Now they use social security benefits themselves to help fund the government when they made them subject to taxation.
Finally when you are sent a record of your wage history by SSA review it for any new earnings posted to it that you did not earn. With the massive hacking going and SSA numbers obtained through that strangers could be using your number. If so their earnings info will be posted to it and if you are retired you may receive a fraudulent increase in your benefit amount the following year. If still working you may have a future tax inquiry.
Maybe SSA should only have been paid solely to the wage earner who was taxed in the first place.
Benefits used to be paid to children up to age of 22 if in college. Now ends age 18 or if they enlist. If still in high school it ends with the third month following the month age 19 is attained Mothers were paid until the child in care attained age 18, now its at 16.
They added divorced spouses, originally based on being married for 20 years or more. Now its 10 years which means a current spouse and four ex-spouses could receive benefits
I could be misremembering, but Ticker Guy IIRC has said that SS is not the big problem, it’s the medical part of the budget that needs fixing.
He has written out a detailed plan to fix this, and updated it, but it’s our “representatives” that were supposed to fix this and won’t act.
I think people like Nikki Haley like to be brave and bold in going after SS because it is We The People she is getting tough with, whereby going after the health care system involves going after people with major clout.

I’m not saying that Ticker Guy knows everything; but this is a good-faith effort with a lot of thought put into it, and it is certainly a good starting point for anyone who actually wants to repair the system and have people still able to go to the doctor.
It’d be easy to fix social security. Levy a hefty tax on stock options to executives already making large cash salaries, on foundations, on university endowments, on law firm profits over a certain amount, and have the tax kick back in on incomes exceeding $1 million.

Germany became the first nation in the world to adopt an old-age social insurance program in 1889, designed by Germany’s Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck. The idea was first put forward, at Bismarck’s behest, in 1881 by Germany’s Emperor, William the First, in a ground-breaking letter to the German Parliament. William wrote: “. . .those who are disabled from work by age and invalidity have a well-grounded claim to care from the state.”
Bismarck was motivated to introduce social insurance in Germany both in order to promote the well-being of workers in order to keep the German economy operating at maximum efficiency, and to stave-off calls for more radical socialist alternatives. Despite his impeccable right-wing credentials, Bismarck would be called a socialist for introducing these programs, as would President Roosevelt 70 years later. In his own speech to the Reichstag during the 1881 debates, Bismarck would reply: “Call it socialism or whatever you like. It is the same to me.”
The German system provided contributory retirement benefits and disability benefits as well. Participation was mandatory and contributions were taken from the employee, the employer and the government. Coupled with the workers’ compensation program established in 1884 and the “sickness” insurance enacted the year before, this gave the Germans a comprehensive system of income security based on social insurance principles. (They would add unemployment insurance in 1927, making their system complete.)
One persistent myth about the German program is that it adopted age 65 as the standard retirement age because that was Bismarck’s age. This myth is important because Germany was one of the models America looked to in designing its own Social Security plan; and the myth is that America adopted age 65 as the age for retirement benefits because this was the age adopted by Germany when they created their program. In fact, Germany initially set age 70 as the retirement age (and Bismarck himself was 74 at the time) and it was not until 27 years later (in 1916) that the age was lowered to 65. By that time, Bismarck had been dead for 18 years.

With government control of medical care and what is considered proper medical protocol in the treatment of diseases, even those who have managed to provide for their own future are at risk.
Despite their endless posturing and pretense, politicians do not love the masses — of any age. What they love is their own power. They pretend to love the masses as a vehicle for gaining power. History shows again and again that once they gain it, the lives of millions become expendable.
The actual fact is that while the lives of the elderly are of inestimable value, when taken one at a time, to the individual elderly person concerned, they are of no actual value to politicians and government officials. Indeed, from the perspective of the self-interest of all-powerful officials, contemplating the land and the people of their country as their personal possessions, existing for no purpose other than their — the officials’ — glorification, the existence of the elderly stands as an actual impediment. For the elderly consume substantial amounts of the resources of the collective that the officials control, and at the same time they produce little or nothing, and no longer have any prospect of ever doing so. If they ceased to exist, the officials would have resources available to put to other uses that they would certainly judge to be more important.
Today, of course, the elderly still have the vote, and that may protect them for a time. But all-powerful government is clearly the direction in which we are moving. We are placing ourselves more and more in the power of government officials who regard us the way a farmer regards his livestock. We will be able to live, in poverty and as slaves, so long as we are useful to them. But when we are too old to be useful to them, we will be left to die. As the Times’ article referenced above put it, we will then be spoken of in terms of such euphemisms as having “chosen ‘medical management without dialysis,'” i.e., “medical management” without treatment.
If we want to protect the value of individual human life, particularly in old age, when it is most vulnerable, we must reverse direction and start dismantling Social Security and Medicare, two potentially deadly collectivist institutions. We must restore to the individual the responsibility and the power to determine his own future through forethought and saving. The individual must have his own individual property with the freedom to use it for his own well-being, as he sees fit. Government officials must be barred from the process.

Because I no longer go into the City, I have no first-hand knowledge. We’ve seen some increase in local governments sponsoring migrant housing, with Evanston converting a one-time “boutique hotel” into a downtown shelter. Most of the re-settlement has been in outlying suburbs. Reportedly, some arrive by Metra train and are simply dumped on the municipality. If/when migrants appear in near-north Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield and the like that would be a tell. These are all wealthy suburbs, housing the more successful professional class. So far NIMBY appears to hold true. I expect our city to cave at some point and offer some kind of housing. Chicago simply cannot cope with all the “new arrivals.”
Our neighborhood has changed. Younger couples leaving the City are transforming a quiet suburban experience into something more City-like: more cars on the street, more partying, less interaction with neighbors, more rental residents who stay for a year or two. We now have full-time AirBNB-style properties on a block where selling prices begin at $375K. We have one house that has stood empty for over two years, the new owner’s renovation on hold. And one-block to the North are several Muslim families. They are not friendly. These families take evening walks in groups, do not interact and often will barely return a greeting. For reference, we live on the border of one of the wealthier suburbs, in an area that was traditionally a “starter neighborhood” for young families moving to an excellent school system.
I scan our police blotter weekly and it seems routine, the usual break-ins and rifling of cars left unlocked. It’s almost suspiciously bland some weeks. Our local Walgreens two blocks to the north is routinely robbed. I generally travel further away to a safer store. We’ve had vacancies in the local strip mall for years now. Wayfair has taken over an abandoned department store and is spending considerable sums in a remodeling. It’s odd because friends tell me that Wayfair is struggling, cutting back. What the heck are they doing risking an internet-based business selling bargain quality furniture in a swanky suburb?
In general, my sense is my neighbors are mostly in that stage of “going along with the changes,” not watching for a “suddenly, all at once.” There is that Chicago-style muddle through it all …

I’m not that far away and I simply don’t talk much with my neighbors. There are a few, but generally I only check in on neighborhood “happenings.” Always talk to one or two of the local dog walkers. They pass local wisdom among one another and can be a really great source of info. I also make a point of running the snow blower over people’s sidewalks when it gets ugly. Keeps ’em talking and knowing I’m a helpful neighbor.
I used to love going to Evanston, IL to visit. The homes and yards were always stately and well manicured. I always ate at The Blind Faith Cafe even though I was not a vegetarian. The food was delicious. I remember taking side roads from Elgin, Il to Evanston, Il just to see little neighborhoods and wide open spaces. That was how I got my doses of sunshine without having to get into the cold weather.

You made me think of the movie franchise “The Purge” which was reminiscent of the stories I hear growing up about the Democrat-Alinsky crime cartels organizing race riots to take over from the old guard white Democrats city governments, and turning them into crime cartels and expansion of Alinsky-Black power fronts, eventually encompassing surrounding, towns, county, and in some cases state governments. In July, researchers used a computer simulation to suggest there is a “substantial risk” from ancient ‘zombie’ microbes emerging from melting permafrost.
The scientists used a program called Avida which is an ‘artificial life system’ of digital microorganisms. The FBI has a 15-month backlog on DNA testing for migrants and is running out of money to sustain the program, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security email chain reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Customs and Border Protection uses tests from the FBI, which then analyzes and stores them for federal border authorities, to test migrants 14 years old and older, according to the emails. FBI Director Christopher Wray previously raised concerns about the FBI’s ability to handle the “dramatic increase” in DNA samples given the migration surges in April, according to Voice of America.
“They [FBI] don’t have enough money to run the program which is a statutory requirement. They are still delivering kits and used to turn them around in 2 months, now they are looking at a 15 month backlog,” one CBP official said in the internal chain regarding its response to a Washington Post reporter working on a story regarding the DNA testing.
Federal authorities have recorded record flows of migrants crossing the southern border illegally in recent years, with roughly 2.2 million encounters in fiscal year 2022 and more than 2 million in fiscal year 2023, according to federal data.
The FBI’s Combined DNA Index System is used by federal, state, and local labs to connect offenders to crimes, according to the bureau.
In a proposed response to the reporter’s question, the officials admitted that migrants who aren’t wanted for crimes are always released from agency custody before the DNA testing is completed.
“Migrants remain in CBP custody for up to 72 hours. Since the FBI’s DNA analysis has always taken longer than three days, migrants have always released from CBP custody prior to the FBI completing its DNA analysis. Migrants wanted for a crime are transferred to appropriate law enforcement agencies. You may, however, wish to contact [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] to learn whether the current delay in FBI DNA analysis may have impacted ICE’s release of migrants as ICE holds migrants longer than CBP,” one portion of an email read.
When it comes to the migration flows to the U.S., federal border authorities have found significant numbers of migrants that are fraudulently making it seem like they’re legitimate families. Border Patrol has a contract for rapid DNA testing of families, according to the emails.
A Department of Homeland Security pilot program previously found that 16 out of 84 families were “fraudulent” and not actually related, while a separate program discovered that out of a total of 522 migrant families, 79 were fraudulent. The Trump administration expanded the federal government’s DNA program at the border in 2020.

Starfcker, I have several friends who came here legally, received a green card, eventually became naturalized citizens. They love this country and contribute more than many natural born citizens do.
I have no issues with Trump’s 2019 immigration policy. I also support his “mass deportation” plans being proposed today.
There is justified anger over our current immigration situation (both legal and illegal). So I get it. However, the solutions are out there. Trump comes closest to seeing them through and forcing congress to see it through.
I agree that a temporary freeze on new immigration (for years) would be a good thing while we sort it out. Mass Deportations, short term or seasonal guest worker program to fit needs, terminate automatic anchor baby citizenship, no automatic amnesty (apply through current laws and wait your turn) and ending all other incentives for illegals would be a good start.
However, I disagree Trump is a squish. Most Americans are, indeed, pro immigration. They just want it to be legal, reasonable, and something that benefits America (not something that destroys our culture, jobs, or economy).

Immigration law has been purposely ignored. It has not been legitimately enforced in my lifetime and I am not young. My search engine is Bing, but it seems not to matter what I choose to use for the time being.
I believe this started day before yesterday. When I wish to check Sundance’s twitter, I type in a search, “Last Refuge2 tw” and there has always been a listing for it, which I click. I prefer that to typing in “Twitter” in a search, going there, then typing in the search box “Last Refuge2.”
Yesterday, that didn’t work for me. I typed in X, but was not taken to Twitter, the old name. Instead, when I searched for X, I got Xfinity, a provider.
The same for all names. I thought this morning that maybe it had gone back to the easy way, but no. It doesn’t matter whose twitter (X) account I wish to search for. It is not listed in the search.
I have to actually go to Twitter and find them on that platform.
I tried other search engines, a couple. No go either.
They are at it again. They are doing all they can to slow the traffic to Musk’s site and thus, to all those who post there.
Me too. I switched search engines, but that didn’t fix it either.
I wnt into my history and clicked on a twitter thread that way.
Elon is part of them. Have you considered that maybe X is doing this? Making you go directly to their site to view? So the government can track you even easier.
Try doing an internet news search for stories covering the pre-pandemic economic boom or the stories covering all the instances of vote fraud which we were seeing in a daily and increasing basis before the J6 protest. They’re mostly gone AND when you do find something you may want to use as a reference, bookmark it because they are constantly changing the algorithms . . . it’s like playing hide & seek.
Its full-blown censorship and – to the extent it’s STILL being done at the behest of the government – unconstitutional.
