I first heard the Amsterdam Guitar Trio back in the mid 80’s—first on a CD and then at a concert at a local university. I thought their playing of the 4 Seasons was exceptionally excellent. They played with a crisp precision that made Vivaldi sound even mor luminous than usual. I came across this very recording tonight. It had only been viewed by a little over 600 viewers which, given the quality of the playing is kinda a shame.
I think they deserve another listen, although I regret that we don’t get to see a video of their actual performance. Still, IMHO, their playing is so exquisite that I hope you’ll agree that they deserve a listen. Enjoy, Treeper friends . . .

Re: the “hook”. I think you are right. I’ve always heard rock-like lyricism in baroque music like Vivaldi. Maybe they were mystically channeling a future Beatles connection?? Who knows?

Some thoughts –
* I agree that the response should be completely disproportionate!! There MUST be a decisive victory against terrorists.
* As for Israel, my experience has been that the people saying there is a disproportionate number of dead on both sides are usually just saying that they want more dead Jews.
* The term proportionate in regards to war is actually supposed to mean that the actions are proportionate to the goals. For example, dropping a huge bomb and destroying a city is disproportionate if the goal is to assassinate one person.
However, in the current war with Israel, the goal is to eradicate Hamas, so I’d suggest the numbers of dead could be massively more and still fall within the war definition of proportionate.

Israel Update: Day 82 of the War.
-Iran have increased the uranium enrichment in a few locations to a near weapon grade levels. This was my main worry for a while. This could be the most significant news that is not being talked about. Israel will have to act if it’s moving to a bomb. Israel by now should have enough Mossad resources to know. It was the top Mossad target for decades. The White House states that it is “Very concerned about it”.
-6 terrorists killed in the West Bank in a confrontation.
This reminds me something that is under the radar. Israel has been operating in the West Bank daily and systematically. Since 10/7 Israel killed over 290. Mostly terrorists who attacked. Over 2,500 were arrested. 1,300 of them are Hamas. Tens of explosive/weapon laboratories were destroyed and thousands of explosives. Hundreds of weapons were discovered and taken. This adds to a whole year before which also had almost daily operations. The main forces operating there are Border Police Special Forces who are the best we have in counter terror.
-Three IDF soldiers died. Two Infantry soldiers in the North of Gaza. 23, 21, 20 years old. One was an officer. The IDF lost so far 498 soldiers since 10/7. 164 Since the ground invasion. May God bless their souls and help their families.
-Ron Dermer, Bibi’s right hand man, met Jake Salivan the US Security Advisor in the US. They discussed the hostage release efforts, the plans for the “day after” IE who will rule Gaza etc.., and they discussed the change of phases in the war from powerful war to a more controlled special forces operations. Note: I know that Dermer is also suppose to push the arrival of more munitions. In my opinion it is critical in case Israel decides to do something to the Iranian Nuke sites or to. Hezbollah. There is an unsustainable situation in North Israel that will have to be handled. Daily missiles from Hezbollah on houses and bases. About 80,000 citizens who can’t come back home.
-Gaza is saying that they have 21,000 dead and about 55,000 injured. Note: We can’t tell if the numbers are correct. Also they don’t distinguish terrorists from civilians. Overall the numbers are considered not too far from the truth considering many are under rabble and inside exploded tunnels. There may be even more than those numbers.
-The new UN Representative for humanitarian matters in Gaza is a lady from the Netherlands who is married to a Palestinian who was a deputy Minister in Arafat’s government (the arch terrorist) and a PLO representative in Switzerland. She also was a Deputy Prime Minister in Netherlands and has a background of pushing the Netherlands against Israel.
-Biden spoke with the Qatari Leader about a hostage release deal.
Note: Ideally we take all the land and then do a better deal. It can be 30 plus more days.
I feel for the hostages. What a nightmare.
-Israeli War cabinet apparently has a dispute as to when to stop the “powerful phase” to the third phase which is “surgical phase with less forces”. Apparently Bibi, Chief of Staff and Defense Minister want to keep going till about the end of January as was previously decided. The two opposition members of the cabinet (Gantz and Eizenkot) who joined the Government just for the war and have been in the past Chiefs of Staffs, they think that massive forces in this stage will just result in more casualties to the IDF and we can start withdrawing forces and get into a Special Operations phase. Bibi and Defense Minster and Chief of Staff think that the deeper the IDF gets the easier the third phase will be. The US is pushing to end phase two by mid January. Note: I am not an expert but I think that all this predictability and discussing it in public is wrong. They should be doing what the high officers on the ground think should be done. I believe they want to keep this phase and Bibi goes with them.
-US military: “We intercepted 12 drones, 5 missiles of the Hoothies. “ This was over the Red Sea. Looks like the US is helping Israel with this and in exchange Israel is keeping the war from expanding too far and wide.
-In NY there was a violent pro Hamas protest with hundreds yelling “Intifada” (Intifada for Israelis means the thousands of civilian deaths from countless suicide bombs and other atrocities), literally it means “uprising” but it’s known to be terror related term.
At least 6 arrested. A police officer wounded. Calls to “cancel this Christmas because of Gaza” by a muslim woman.
-The Iranian General who was assassinated yesterday in Syria is not the only one. He is the third in a month now. Israel is attacking Iranian operations in Syria which are directed to ship advanced weapons to Hezbollah.
-Israeli Chief of Staff in a visit in an IDF Base: “I just went out of Gaza, the IDF is close to completing the dismantling of the Hamas Brigades in North Gaza. We killed many commanders and terrorists and took hundreds to captivity. We destroyed many underground infrastructures and weapons. In this urban and dense area the terrorists are dressed as civilians, we can’t say we killed them all. Apparently we will still encounter terrorists in this area. We will keep hurting them and chasing them in various ways.“
“The ground operation enables to destroy infrastructure that can’t be done from the air. This operation brings about friction with many terrorists and killing them. “
“The IDF is focused and precise. Everywhere we attack we have heavy fire from the air and sea etc.. as needed. This war has necessary and not easy goals to achieve. The war is in complex zones and therefore it will continue and take many more months. We will act in various ways as to maintain the gains for a long time.” “There are no magic solutions nor shortcuts in the thorough dismantling of the Hamas but persistent and determined combat. We are very determined. We will reach also the Hamas Leadership, whether it will take a week or a couple of months. Because of the spirit and professionalism we will reach. “
Regarding the methods on the ground: “We are learning and changing the way we fight all the time. We are increasing the pressure in various ways and with cunning ways. This pressure enables achieving the goals”.
Regarding the duration: “We said it will be a long war. It was correct to place high goals in order to reach high. Our estimations are correct. Will we be able to say ‘no more enemy around Israel?’ It is too ambitious. But we will bring about a different security situation and as much as possible stable too.”
-There was a report about better ways to fight the underground. It’s hard to tell more because it is confidential. But today they released a video which shows a tunnel with quite a few terrorists dead. You wonder how? There is also a report about better ways to detect the tunnels. The reports came from reliable sources and I am sure there is an improvemnt.
-The IDF released a tape with an IDF person speaks on the phone with a civilian in Gaza and the civilian is saying exactly what I said a while ago. Hamas is in full control of UNRWA and their people are in there and they control everything and taking the humanitarian aide to themselves first then for others. I don’t know what proof there is but the IDF will need to deal with it. I think that the aide could be secured with drones. The terrorists who steal the aide could be attacked.
-One critical thing to know. Rafiach is the most South city in Gaza on the border with Egypt.
It has there what is called “The Philadelphi Corridor”. It is a narrow buffer zone that is about 8.7 miles long, along the border. Israel established it long ago but now it was used for tunnels to smuggle weapons from Egypt and it can be used to escape Gaza for Hamas Leaders or even to move hostages out. Israel must stop those tunnels if it wants to defeat Hamas.
I know some days ago the IDF did something there. The Egyptians are near and it is a sensitive area, we don’t want to hurt Egyptians. Some criticize the IDF within Israel and say that that area should have been one of the first targets and we are way late. But pay attention to this because it’s a critical area and I predict more action there.

Founded and helped colonize the US state of Texas, dies of pneumonia at 43
Biography: Stephen F. Austin was an American settler known as the ‘Father of Texas’ for his role in founding the state. Austin brought several hundred families with their slaves to the Tejas region in 1825 after inheriting an empresario grant from Spain, which gave him the right to settle there.
Austin convinced a number of American settlers to move with him, totaling 300 families in the first migration. This group established a settlement in the territory, and initially maintained friendly relations with the Mexican government.
When dissatisfaction with the Mexican government boiled over and resulted in the Texas Revolution, Austin led the Texas forces in the early Siege of Béxar. While a series of setbacks followed this, the Texans would ultimately win their independence after the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836.

Biography: Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was a French civil engineer known for the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty’s internal structure. Graduating from École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, his work on French railways and bridges like the Garabit Viaduct established his reputation. Post-retirement, Eiffel researched meteorology and aerodynamics, contributing significantly to both fields.
Eiffel was the first child of Catherine-Mélanie and Alexandre Bonickhausen dit Eiffel. His family had German origins and adopted the name Eiffel after relocating to Paris. His mother managed a charcoal business, later evolving into coal distribution, which Eiffel’s father joined.
As a child, Eiffel lived with his grandmother but maintained a close relationship with his mother. Though initially not scholarly, he began to take education seriously in his later school years, influenced by literature and history teachers.
Eiffel’s education included mentorship by his uncle, Jean-Baptiste Mollerat, and chemist Michel Perret. He studied at the Collège Sainte-Barbe in Paris, later graduating from École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, specializing in chemistry.

In 1865, Eiffel became an independent consulting engineer. He was involved in building railway stations and overseeing locomotive construction for Egypt. His work at the Exposition Universelle (1867) saw collaboration with Henri Treca on metal properties research. Eiffel’s own company, founded in 1866, took on international work, including the Budapest Nyugati railway station and Maria Pia Bridge in Portugal.
His company, renamed Eiffel et Cie after a partnership with Théophile Seyrig, built the Garabit viaduct. American pianist and composer (Gaelic Symphony), dies at 77
Biography: Recognized today as the first US born female composer to have her work performed by a major orchestra, Amy Beach (then Cheney) was a child prodigy at the piano. Performing public recitals since the age of 8, she made her Boston debut at 16, and two years later performed with the Boston Symphony.
At about the same time, she married Dr. Henry Beach, and at his behest curtailed performing, except for an annual charity concert. Mrs. Beach instead concentrated on composing and met with acclaim for her 1892 Mass in E-flat played by Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society, and her “Gaelic” Symphony, premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1896.
After her husband’s death, she toured Europe and received enthusiastic response both as pianist and composer, becoming one of the first US trained classical musicians to do so.
Her portfolio contains over 300 works. Beach was an active participant of and later benefactor to the MacDowell Arts Colony, where she spent many summers composing.

US Army General and commander of coalition forces in the Gulf War, dies of complications from pneumonia at 78
Biography: Schwarzkopf served as the commander of the United States Central Command from 1988 to 1991. In this position he served as the commander of all US and coalition forces during the First Gulf War in 1990-1991. He became known as ‘Stormin’ Norman’ for his aggressive military leadership style and fiery temper.
The victory of coalition forces in the Gulf War was partly down to his decisive leadership; Iraqi forces were routed from Kuwait in just 100 hours, following an extensive military buildup and air campaign planned and led by Schwarzkopf.
He retired from the military after the Gulf War and later declined a position as Army Chief of Staff.

Unlike today’s women composers who produce nothing but cacophony, unlistenable mish-moshes of random notes thrown onto a page and which no one with an ear for beauty could possibly call music, Miss Beach’s compositions are an absolute delight to listen to. 12/27/2023 – Why does this generation seek after a sign?
Mark 8:12 “And He sighed deeply in His spirit, and says, Why does this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.”
Luke 16:27-31 “Then he said, I pray you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house; for I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, that they not also come into this place of torment. Abraham says unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, No, father Abraham; but if one went to them from the dead, they will repent. And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”
Why would the rich man think, that if his brothers saw someone come back from the dead, and telling them how to not go to hell, would really have that effect on them? Could it be, that he still didn’t get it, why he himself had ended up there? Or maybe that was just exactly it; that by their seeing the beggar whom they looked right through day after day, and had absolutely zero concern for his welfare; Lazarus himself back again from the dead, would scare them into repentance?
But Abraham’s answer was God’s answer to all such ideas: “They have Moses and the prophets; if they hear not them, neither will they be persuaded if one rose from the dead.” Signs and wonders are not going to convince anyone who has no place for faith or repentance; and scaring someone with the supernatural can only have its intended results upon a tender conscience. Men like Ahab may make drastic outward changes for a time, when they are put in fear of hell; and may do many things, and go very softly for a time; but unless they are willing to put to death the old man, and seek from God reconciliation and a New Birth from above, all they’re doing is trying to get out of punishment. This is what’s known as a spurious conversion, and will not take.
The Pharisees sent some of their disciples to go check out John the Baptist: not because they believed him, but as judges, and as authorities having power over the people, guarding their dominion. For the same reason were they consumed with envy, pursuing and relentlessly trying to slander and discredit Jesus: no matter what work of power to bless and to heal, no matter how great the wisdom and purity of Spirit by which He lived and spoke; they had no place in their heart for repentance, nor any need for the Savior. No miracle had any effect on changing their minds, or giving them a change of heart.
As it was in Jesus’ day, so has it been also in recent times; that great multitudes are following Him, for all kinds of reasons, except the reason for which He was sent into the world. So how does it work, and why, that the same seed sown in people’s hearts, can have so easily no good result like it was meant for? Jesus said it: “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world; that I should bear witness to the truth. All they which are of the truth will hear My voice.”
Matthew 13:10-15 “And the disciples came, and said to Him, Why [do] You speak to them in parables? He answered and said to them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that [which] he has. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive: for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; that not at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”
Isaiah 6:9-10 “And He said, Go, and tell this people, Hear you indeed, but understand not; and see you indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”
So if God has judged that to the many the door should be closed for them to convert and be healed; how then should supernatural manifestations work, or have power to do what God has judged shall be blocked, and will not happen? But closer to the point of these Scriptures; the Lord is not coming down to people’s vain curiosity; and not to prove Himself to anyone, who has no intention of getting right with God, or seeking to be saved from his sins.
And next to this, is the fact, that at a certain point God does not want to speak to people any more, or show them any more of His mercy and power; because that with all they have seen and heard so far, they have not repented; and at a certain point, He stops speaking to them.
And so it is God’s judgment upon this evil and adulterous generation, which seeks so badly, for all kinds of other reasons than what the Lord Jesus has said; that NO SIGN SHALL BE GIVEN TO THEM. They have the Bible, and they don’t care to know it. And the fact is, that they will forget it in less than a day, if they never see or hear another Christian again.
Matthew 24:24-30 “For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven, shines unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in His day. But first must He suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation. And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the cataclysm came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.”

WHERE THE BATTLE’S LOST AND WON
“If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord…” Jeremiah iv. 1
The battle is lost or won in the secret places of the will before God, never first in the external world. The Spirit of God apprehends me and I am obliged to get alone with God and fight the battle out before Him. Until this is done, I lose every time. The battle may take one minute or a year, that will depend on me, not on God; but it must resolutely go through the hell of a renunciation before God. Nothing has any power over the man who has fought out the battle before God and won there.
If I say, “I will wait till I get into the circumstances and then put God to the test,” I shall find I cannot. I must get the thing settled between myself and God in the secret places of my soul where no stranger intermeddles, and then I can go forth with the certainty that the battle is won. Lose it there, and calamity and disaster and upset are as sure as God’s decree. The reason the battle is not won is because I try to win it in the external world first. Get alone with God, fight it out before Him, settle the matter there once and for all.
In dealing with other people, the line to take is to push them to an issue of will. That is the way abandonment begins. Every now and again, not often, but sometimes, God bring us to a point of climax. That is the Great Divide in the life; from that point we either go towards a more and more dilatory and useless type of Christian life, or we become more and more ablaze for the glory of God – My Utmost for HIS Highest.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Yesterday, December 26, one day after Christmas, I went to the one of the local dollar stores to buy cough drops. Imagine my shock to see Happy Valentine’s Day! plastered up and down a major aisle. It was already fully stocked with Valentine’s Day candy and decorations. If that wasn’t bad enough, I turned the corner and was greeted with Happy Easter! banners. Two aisles with shelves already fully stocked with chocolate Easter Bunny’s, Easter baskets, candy, and marshmallow peeps of many sizes and colors.
Something isn’t right here. I’m still wishing people a Merry Christmas. Is something wrong with me? 😉
That all happened on Christmas Eve. I went to my Dollar Tree and was shocked to see all the Christmas stuff removed and New Years, Valentines and Easter filling the shelves. Customers in the store were not happy and left without buying anything.
Disgusting. I would never go back!

I sure remember watching them on TV in the late ’60s. They were a very funny duo, with older bro’ Tom playing the not-quite-as-smart brother who thought “Mom liked (the other brother Dick) best.” Their schtick was funny to watch and they interlaced it with folk songs that were frequently hosed up with funny substitutions for lyrics or just plain interruptions for “stupid questions” from Tom. It was a musical variety show so there were plenty of other popular artists who appeared as guest performers

HOWEVER, what I did not know was that the CBS censors didn’t like the Smothers Brothers content: they deemed it too edgy!
