This is our Treeper Church Sunday benediction. It is also a very special benediction because it is a celebration of Our Lord’s birthday.
When we think about His Day, it’s deep meaning across the centuries
. . . For me, as a deep believer, I am reminded of two deep feelings that I discovered and accepted fairly recently. I think Our Lord gave us a Great Gift. It’s something that He expects us to discover and accept on our own.
On my wife’s death a year ago in September, I began a review of what our 55 years together actually meant. What kept us together for over 5 decades? It took me awhile—3 depressive episodes before I experienced the kind of epiphany I think Our Lord wanted me to experience . . .
What kept us together, what made our long relationship work through happiness and trouble, was trust and loyalty. In all that time, we always trusted each other. There was never any doubt about that. None at all . . . 55 years. . .
And then there was our shared loyalty. Regardless of what happened, we always remained loyal to each other. I’ve described that loyalty in terms in context with our working-class backgrounds.
Our loyalty was as simple as this: if I was stranded in a bar-ditch on a cold, wet February night and I called Maggie, I could always be certain that her first response would be to ask where I was. This would be followed by her telling me that she would fetch the tow strap, get the truck, and come pull me out of the bar-ditch.
And she always knew that I would always, always do the same for her.
It is that kind of loyalty, along with corresponding trust than is the foundation of lasting and loving relationships. This is what we had for our 55 years.
I hope all of my Treeper friends can enjoy a very blessed and very wonderful Christmas. May we all experience our Dear Lord’s Grace in this most special time.

So Christmas Eve arrives, my friend. Tonight we will watch Carols from Kings College Cambridge which will be televised on Britbox. It is tradition in our home here as it was in Wales. There is no more sublime or joyful Service I have ever been to or seen than this one.
So as my gift to beloved friends here I am leaving this one from long ago which I hope will lift all hearts as it always has done mine.

Portuguese explorer and viceroy of Cochin, dies at about 55

Vasco da Gama was the first European explorer to reach India by sea, helping to establish Portugal as a colonial power and changing the previous dependence Europe had on trade overland.
Vasco da Gama left Portugal with 4 ships on his first voyage in 1497, rounded the Cape of Good Hope and travelled up the African coast. Arriving in the trading port of Calicut, India in May of 1498 he was warmly received, though failed to establish permanent relations.
After an arduous journey home he returned to Portugal in August of 1499 to a hero’s welcome, including the noble title of Dom.
In 1502, Vasco da Gama made a second less successful voyage to Calicut with the aim of subduing the town with a fleet of fifteen ships. This voyage was marked by acts of cruelty, including looting and burning a Muslim pilgrim ship with pilgrims inside.
After this, Vasco da Gama fell out of favour, until 1524 when he was appointed Indian Viceroy, However, 3 months after arriving again in India, Vasco da Gama died of malaria.

Schreiber worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II to develop the first atomic bomb.
He saw the first atomic bomb detonated in the Trinity nuclear test on 16 July 1945. Schreiber then prepared the Fat Man bomb that was used in the bombing of Nagasaki, travelling to the Pacific to assemble it. Schreiber went on to work on the design of the hydrogen bomb, and led the plutonium pit teams for Operation Crossroads nuclear tests on the Bikini Atoll in June and July 1946 and for the first thermonuclear hydrogen bomb (Ivy Mike) tests in 1952.
Schreiber was also one of the witnesses who survived the accident in which Louis Slotin was exposed to a fatal dose of neutron radiation during preparations for Operation Crossroads.
In later years Schreiber rose to become Deputy Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The Spirit of God witnesses to the simple almighty security of the life hid with Christ in God and this is continually brought out in the Epistles. We talk as if it were the most precarious thing to live the sanctified life; it is the most secure thing, because it has Almighty God in and behind it. The most precarious thing is to try and live without God. If we are born again it is the easiest thing to live in right relationship to God and the most difficult thing to go wrong, if only we will heed God’s warnings and keep in the light.
When we think of being delivered from sin, of being filled with the Spirit, and of walking in the light, we picture the peak of a great mountain, very high and wonderful, and we say – “Oh, but I could never live up there!” But when we do get there by God’s grace, we find it is not a mountain peak, but a plateau where there is ample room to live and to grow. “Thou hast enlarged my steps under me.”
When you really see Jesus, I defy you to doubt Him. When He says – “Let not your heart be troubled,” if you see Him I defy you to trouble your mind, it is a moral impossibility to doubt when He is there. Every time you get into personal contact with Jesus, His words are real. “My peace I give unto you,” it is a peace all over from the crown of the head to the sole of the feet, an irrepressible confidence. “Your life is hid with Christ in God,” and the imperturbable peace of Jesus Christ is imparted to you.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

MORNING

The Christmas carols have been sung for almost a month, and Handel’s Messiah has been presented in various venues. The sweetness of the tiny baby in the manger has been portrayed on church lawns, displayed in people’s yards, and even projected on garage doors. Though the message of peace on Earth has been broadcast, has the worldliness of the season infringed upon the “reason for the season?“
Today’s verse comes from the parable of the unnamed rich man and the beggar, Lazarus. To the Pharisees and other religious leaders of the day, wealth was a sign of righteous living – it was not viewed as a hindrance to religion. In stark contrast, the poor were considered inferior and sinful. Jesus, however, shone new light on life in the here and now, and life beyond death.
On Earth, the rich man lived in flamboyant opulence, while Lazarus begged for crumbs from the rich man’s table and relied on stray dogs to clean his sores. Their circumstances reversed in death – the rich man found himself in torment in Hades, but the beggar was comforted next to Abraham’s bosom.
God gives prosperity to humans so that they might glorify Him as Maker and be of help to those in need. When selfishness and worldliness inhabit the spirit, the enjoyment will be limited to this life alone.
In this joyful season, people may be more open to hearing the truth of the message of salvation. Be bold in sharing the Good News – salvation is the gift of most importance. Let the announcement of the Savior’s birth be followed by the life-giving message of the cross.
Pray for those who hear His story to respond with joy-filled acceptance of God’s indescribable gift.
