I’ll remind folks that no one in banking or the financial sector went to jail (or was even indicted, I believe) for the 2007-2008 financial crisis. These folks appear to be bullet-proof.
Didn’t the banks or mortgage companies bundle their bad loans and sell them just before the sh*t hit the fan sticking private investors with the loses? I remember something like that happening. And no one went to jail? Unbelievable!!! My guess is a lot in Congress made money off that collapse?? JMO

Nah. The bundling has happened forever and they’re sold in tranches of investment grade securities to investors of different varieties. The problem came from the lowest rated tranches of these securities being “insured” with credit default swaps and the ratings agencies magically calling them B+ or higher rated paper so banks and insurance companies could buy them.
When those super crappy subprime mortgages started defaulting at higher than average rates, the swap holders bailed and the investors were left to get creamed, which they did. The ratings agencies and regulators knew damn well the swaps were ultimately garbage but they let it ride because they were in bed together with the huge banks packaging and selling the paper.
This idiocy allowed for Clinton’s and Bush’s dumbass non-underwritten mortgages to become the norm and everyone involved got hammered, except all this in bed together.

Yep! Hubby and I transferred our 401’s into gold. It can go up, or down a bit, but nowhere near the 80% wipe out coming to 401K’s! And, we physically hold our wealth.
I did the same. Lost $5000 in one month, when I lost $1000 in one week, I moved it to gold. As I am months away from retirement age, I couldn’t just sit and watch my 401 sink.
Gold’s intrinsic value? Relative to…say…shotgun shells.

My problem with gold is its value is tied to ascribed value because of its beauty, which can’t last in a shtf scenario. I understand it has for a long time been an inflation hedge and the symbol of predictable value, but it’s rooted in ???
Rooted in relatively scare and finite quantity. Historically it was a compact means of transporting and storing the value of one’s assets, as well as being efficient for physical defense. That may not be the case any more.
If planning to leave, bug out, flee, etc, assets like gold can be handy. If planning to stay and fight, IMO weapons of war and ammo are a better choice. They hold value well over time, just follow the auctions to see that, and can be used for their original purpose if need be. Ammo, either whole or as components, can be bartered for other things. Where I live, it fares better than gold or silver in everyday use. Of course that can vary by location.

IF you have some “wealth” you anticipate NOT needing DURING the coming “hard times” and so only want to preserve it so that you n yours will still have it AFTER good times return, then investing THAT portion in a diverse “portfolio” that includes gold, jewelry and art makes some sense.
However, at a minimum it should be with an appreciation of that qualification and that if you don’t understand that, OR if you miscalculate how long or deep the “bad times” will be or last, you COULD end up screwed, and trading a krugerand for a can of spam and a twinkie, in order to survive.
Even silver may not have as much percieved value, and so use as a currency, as AMMUNITION.
NOT as in to shoot, but AS CURRENCY, as it;
-holds its value against inflation as well as prescious metals.
-is impractical to counterfeit
-comes in different denominations and easily divisible quantities.

Trump sighed. “Well, there’s a frickin’ surprise.”
The guard shrugged. “I didn’t vote for her. Personally, I don’t think she has the balls to stand up to Putin.”
Trump started to say something but thought better of it. He mumbled under his breath. “It doesn’t matter.”
After the guard left, Chris pressed Trump. “Why did you say it doesn’t matter, sir? You’re not thinking of committing suicide, are you?”
Trump snorted. “Suicide? Hell no. I’m bustin’ out of this joint.”
Chris came alive and grabbed Trump’s arm. “Breaking out? Take me with you!”
Trump instantly regretted his candor. He pried the old guy’s fingers off his arm. “Chris, look, it’s too dangerous.”
“Not for me, I laugh at danger. You ever try walking on rooftops after a drinking a bottle of brandy to keep warm? Flying all over the world with no GPS?”
Trump gave him a closer look. Of course. Those cheeks. The twinkle in his eyes. “Chris? You mean, Kris Kringle?”
The old guy nodded. “Santa Claus in the flesh, or what’s left of me. I’ve been in the DC jail for a year. The food was not edible.”
Damn it. Trump thought. This presented a problem. But there was no way he’d leave Santa Clause in prison. “What about Mrs Clause? Where is she?”
“Ran off with some beach bum while I was in jail. They’re down in the Keys, last I heard. Forget her. When’s the breakout?”
“The day the Supreme Court rules, which means it could be any…”
Trump stopped talking when a Tomahawk cruise missile whined overhead and slammed precisely into the far corner of the Glade’s prison yard.
BOOM!
The concussion wave knocked everyone to the ground. Trump lay there, stunned, his ears ringing. Dense smoke filled the air as dirt and mud rained down from the blast. Then someone grabbed his hands and pulled him to his feet.
It was Santa. “We gotta go, Mr President!”
Trump let his new friend lead the way to the blast area. The Glade’s tall wire fence lay flattened a hundred feet in either direction. They stumbled out of the prison yard, their clumsy escape hidden by billowing white smoke and running orange-suited inmates.
As Trump’s hearing returned, he heard sirens, then shouts, then the WUP WUP WUP of a helicopter blade close to the ground. Still hanging onto each other, the pair made their way to the hole in the smoke under a hovering UH-60 Blackhawk. Two fat nylon lines dropped to the ground followed by six repelling Special Forces soldiers.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Rifle shots from the prison tower stopped after a withering volley from the lead soldier’s M16s. The other soldiers pushed Santa out of the way and surrounded Trump.
“Grab the line, Mister President.” They hooked him to a harness and started to wave at the chopper above. Trump stopped them.
“Not yet.” He pointed at Santa Claus. “He’s coming with us,”
“But sir…”
“That’s an order.”
In minutes they were all safe inside the Blackhawk. The door slammed shut as the formidable craft tipped due east, flying out over the Atlantic. Trump rummaged around in a cooler until he found a couple Diet Cokes. He handed one to his friend.
Santa sipped at it. “Where to now, Mister President? Mar-a-Lago?”
Trump took a long drink, then shook his head. “Not safe. We’re going to Cuba. Melania melted the solid-gold Mar-a-Lago toilets and bought one of Castro’s ranchos down there. We want to be close to the Deep State treason trials at Gitmo.”
Santa pressed his nose to the window as the Atlantic swept underneath them. “Any chance you can get me up to the North Pole? I want to get back to my job.”
“That’s great.” Trump appeared thoughtful. “It might be dangerous. I’ll send a small Army platoon with you for protection.”
Santa beamed. “In that case, Mister President, what can I get you for Christmas?”
“Peace on Earth, for starters,” Trump said. “And a Merry Christmas for all.”

Biden backs plan to block the sun in bid to limit global warming
The White House has opened the door to an audacious plan to block sunlight from hitting the surface of the Earth in a bid to halt global warming. Despite some scientists warning the effort could have untold side effects from altering the chemical makeup of the atmosphere, President Joe Biden ‘s administration have admitted they’re open to the idea, which has never been attempted before. In a report released Friday by the White House, officials suggested limiting sunlight to rapidly cool the planet, a process known as solar radiation modification (SRM). The administration added a note of skepticism to the report by noting that Congress ordered it, insisting it has not made any decision on ‘geoengineering’ policy. The report noted several ways authorities could look to achieve SRM, all of which come with potentially devastating consequences if they backfire. One method would be to significantly increase the amount of aerosols in the stratosphere, which would reflect the sun’s rays from the planet.

I would more or less consider “Popular Mechanics” to be, shall we say, “an unreliable source.” They are very quick to find a group of “scientists” to interview about what they would “like” to achieve. But that’s a very, very far distance of actually being able(!) to do it.
For example: let’s talk about “injecting sulfur dioxide into the air.” First of all, exactly how much SO2 would it require? And then, why hasn’t any “volcanic eruption” been able to do such a thing already?
If “the Biden Administration gave a go-ahead to study,” this very simply means that a few hundred thousand or maybe a few million more unaccounted-for dollars have just been dropped into the hands of a bunch of academics. Who will dutifully consume the money, and then produce an immediately-forgotten report. Because this is what such people do for a living. Your tax dollars at “work.”
and…I have watched jets flyover every morning and evening for almost a year now…doing exactly what this article speaks about. Block the sun in bid to limit global warming 😛

“Aerosols cool climate by scattering sunlight and, when they mix into clouds, can increase cloud reflectivity and lifetime,” the letter reads. “Reductions in aerosol emissions in the coming few decades will rapidly “unmask” a significant but very uncertain amount of climate warming.”
The idea would be to purposefully inject aerosols like sulfur dioxide—the same stuff that spews from volcanoes—into the stratosphere to help reflect the sun’s light. Previous volcanic eruptions have shown a general cooling effect on the planet, so scientists are pretty certain the plan would work.
Unfortunately, this plan comes with more than a few side effects. The most obvious is that sulfur dioxide is toxic, and purposefully injecting something that humans can’t breathe is concerning. There’s also the added effects on our world. While sunsets would become brilliantly red, a phenomenon often seen after volcanic eruptions, the world’s blue sky would fade to white.
Even with all these downsides, the outcomes of runaway climate change would likely be even worse, and this letter’s pleas for further study into this idea are not falling on deaf ears. In November last year, the Biden administration gave the go-ahead for a five-year study on ways to reflect or otherwise engineer the effects of the sun’s rays.
Reflecting the sun’s rays with toxic gases is not the most elegant solution to climate change, but if it can buy humans some time to kick their fossil fuel addiction, it just might be worth it.
So is it worth it…

What was once a “working class” neighbourhood is now insanely expensive.
Numerous high end luxury condominiums are being constructed wherever zoning allows.
Luxury cars and trucks abound, while we appreciate that it’s being fuelled largely by offshore funds, and “ shady “ financial dealings.
There does appear to be no end to it..of course there will be, but although a skeptic. I just don’t see it anytime soon.
Up here in British Columbia we need a property collapse and a trip back to reality.
We have solid Canadian Banks that were incorporated around the founding of Canada that are paying tax preferred dividends on their common stock at 6% or so.

Helicopter tours were arranged for wealthy Asians to fly over “choice hoods” and bid on properties from the air.
I have personally been on one such property that a friend care takes at.
The owner has multiple homes on the property and visits once a year, for four to six weeks.
He brings his entourage of “ helpers” with him.
