Israel Update:
Back from Gaza today.
-11 hostages freed. 9 of them are children. 2 mothers. 5 fathers left behind.
The ceasefire extended for 2 more days which means possibly 20 more hostages to be released. Estimated 167 more hostages are still in Gaza.
-The ceasefire was extended two more days and at least 20 more hostages will be released. 10 today. I am expecting another day too or more but let’s take it day by day. At this point that we are already at a pause it’s better to get as many as possible and then continue the war to its assigned purposes.
-The FBI is warning against charity frauds related to the Israel Hamas war.
Done by criminals and terror organizations who are asking for donations using stolen Israeli emails.
-Israeli police prevented celebrations in the Palestinian areas for the terrorist that we released who stabbed her Israeli neighbor. Also they cut off Al Jazeera’s live filming.
-Macron from France congratulates the release of three with French citizenships today.
-Blinken is coming again to Israel. The fourth time now. He is interested in humanitarian aide to Gaza, reduction of civilian casualties, Palestian state, hostage release effort.
Note: On this we say – “With friends like this who needs enemies?”
-Yuval Angel the 11 year old hostage who got released arrived on a wheelchair. Probably an injury from fleeing at 10/7 before she was captured. I will follow up on this.
-The baby, Kfir, with his brother and mom are apparently not in the hands of Hamas, another faction are holding them. Speaker of the IDF said that we are holding Hamas responsible.
-Bibi met the President of Germany. Thanked Germany for the consistent support.
-Defense Minister of Israel in a talk to soldiers said that the pause can mean that Hamas will be more prepared and we will increase bombardments and artillery before sending in infantry forces. Note: Recently on one of my social media groups there was a short video from a reservist in Gaza. He said that in the last operation in Jabalia there was a visible decrease in the bombardment from the air force which endangers the infantry when they move in.
He suggested that it is political. Israel is getting massive pressure from the US to decrease civilian casualties. I hope the War Cabinet is not interfering in the jobs of the military.
-This is my comment. Hamas thought that the time of the pause will mount the international pressure on Israel but the opposite happened where International media is busy filming the children being released. More attention to the suffering of kidnapped Israelis.
I just hope that the IDF will be smart enough to not fall into the traps that Hamas prepared. I know the Defense Minister is well aware of it.
Note that I changed from “possibly 20 more will be released” to “at least 20 will be released”. The news simply changed and the last version is the correct one.

Luigi Attademo gives us a splendid, exceptionally well considered performance.
His very first performance in this concert strongly resonated with me because it was the first “real” rendering of J.S.Bach I learned to play. He performs the Prelude from Bach’s 1st Lute suite as transcribed for guitar.
I’d been working hard learning as much about classical guitar playing as I could. I had a basic understanding of music theory (from Jr. High School band) so I could, with more than a little effort, figure out where the notes were
on the guitar. It took a lot of practice but finally I reached a point where I
could follow Bach’s printed notes on my guitar.
Slowly, slowly the Beauty of Back’s musical genius was revealed to me. I was aided in my musical adventure by my very first real concert guitar. It was made in LA by Manuel Rodriguez, Madrid builder who’d relocated to California. This was, however, a real Madrid style concert quality classical guitar.
Playing Bach on this guitar was a transformational, almost magical, experience. The wonderful sound encouraged me to practice and work hard enough so I committed this wonderful little prelude to memory. Learning to play Bach on that splendid guitar was such an intensely rewarding experience that, speaking honestly, my life has never been quite the same.
Wonderful musical journey, and with a very special guitar. I imagine that your guitar responded beautifully over time to the love and hard work that you poured into it.

Got a chance to listen to the concert this AM. Quite unlike any other guitarist I have heard. Expressive while technically close to perfect. The end of the Sor variations was unbelievable.

PS. I played the prelude early on as well including my senior recital. Parts of Luigi’s interpretation are similar to mine. I think that is the Segovia influence. My mentor at university was a Segovia student – Guillermo Fierens.
I smiled when I read that you at one point decided that you would not perform on the concert stage and that was a relief to you. I share that experience as well. What a relief to get on with my other passions while continuing to play my beloved guitar for myself and close friends!

We had our first snowstorm here on black Friday of 10-12 inches (24 on mountain), our tourists from southern states found the ditches somewhat unavoidable for some reason. /s
They were also playing bumper cars or idling down the highway at 15-20 mph, hard for me to make any money with 45-60 minute (round trip time) downtown pizza delivery’s, when it is already a best case 25 minute delivery on dry pavement. (people complain that it costs too much to get delivery & can’t imagine why), chain stores round trip (3.99) delivery is about 10 minutes max or you cant get one delivered. They did deliver to downtown hotels (i’m guessing multiple customers at a time) but they are no longer in operation, they opened in the middle of COVID to take advantage of forced delivery volume. (I have my own thoughts on that tactic but digress)
We (town) were without anyone delivering until I reopened (05.2019 as Delivery or Carryout only) from being back door Eminent Domained outta my dine in(04.2016), but I delivered when it wasn’t busy.
The Hut closed shortly after the first bump in minimum wage on the way up to 12.00 an hour state minimum wage increase on Jan 1 2017. The only other place that delivered stopped after the Hut closed, they went to dine in only & doubled dine in area.
That minimum wage increase started a real $hit $how here in town, McD’s is advertising 17-19 bucks to start, depending on how bad they need a warm body to take up some space.
On the bright side, the double cheeseburger alone is now 8.22 up from less than 5 bucks before. /s
The first snow of the year there is always a large contingent that has to learn how to drive in slick conditions again. Really the most dangerous time to be on the road up north. Now down south, in the lands where most of the snow plows are at the airports, there is no safe time on slick roads.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

11/28/2023 – When you come into a place, examine strictly who in it is worthy.
Matthew 10:11-15 “And into whatsoever city or town you shall enter, *inquire (examine strictly) who in it is worthy; and there abide till you go from that place. And when you come into a house, salute it. And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.”
First coming in, Jesus commands us to examine strictly, who in it is worthy. I think that most never think of the business of preaching the kingdom of God, in terms of “examining strictly, who is worthy.” In fact to even suggest anything like worthiness, will most always get an immediate and hostile objection; for none of us by ourselves, is fit for the Presence of God, nor worthy of the least of His mercies. We are all as beasts before Him, and have nothing to answer Him for one of our sins.
But even knowing all this about us from the beginning, far better than we do about ourselves, God judged it righteous to show mercy on the ignorant and the lost. So what the Lord is talking about here, is something else; and being found worthy is referring to what kind of heart we have toward Him and His word. We know the parable of the sower, how that the first three kinds were not worthy of the good seed sown in their hearts.
Some were hardened, and their lives just a place for the devil to quickly snatch up whatever word might fall around it. Some were shallow and unwilling to do even the basic prep work for making their hearts in a suitable condition for the word to take root. Some foolishly thought that they could keep all the firmly established worldliness, right alongside their brand new baby Christianity; only to be suffocated by all the worldliness they couldn’t give up. But the one with the good and honest heart was the one in whom the word could go down deep, and shoot down its root, and sprout upwards and become what it was put in his heart to be.
So we see, that this worthiness which the Lord is talking about, is a good and right reception of the word. And who is the one to judge? The Christian, the one commissioned by the Lord to bring the Gad Tidings to the world. Now since He has commissioned us with this great work, He has also fully equipped us and made us competent for the work, the work of bringing the gospel to the world, and judging whose sins shall be remitted, and whose shall be retained. How has He given that to us? By making us partakers of His divine nature, and giving us the mind of Christ, and the Holy Spirit to teach us all things and guide us into all truth. He teaches us through His word and through His Spirit, as we follow on to know Him.
What then will give us all the necessary indications, that someone, or a whole community, is not worthy of the words we bring to them? Well the Lord just said it Himself; they are not receptive to you or your words; so he considers them not worthy of having it. And are we then to be sad and dejected, and start blaming ourselves, that they wouldn’t respect the Lord’s words? Jesus said No; shake off the dust of your feet for a testimony against them: it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah than for them. This tells us something very important about our work, and why not to waste our time mourning over those whom God has rejected.
The Lord is not willing for any to perish; and He has done everything, including coming in the flesh Himself into the world, to give up His holy and blameless life, and His most sacred blood on the cross, to save the world from its sins. And God, who knows how He made man, knows how to judge what’s in man, when he chooses either to believe and turn to the Lord; or else to harden his heart in pride, and keep his sins.
One of the last things He said in the whole Bible, was about this very thing: He said, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. The worthy ones will be poor in spirit and mournful, meek and longing for righteousness, merciful and pure in heart and persecuted for righteousness’ sake. The ones who will be counted worthy, will move with fear, and prepare for the saving of their house, according as they have heard God tell them to do it; and they will leave nothing undone of all that He has said. The worthy ones will be found doing, when the Lord comes; true and faithful and enduring to the end, who will not fall when the storm comes and beats against them.

Drama here this morning. Couldn’t find Gabby the cat this morning. She is strictly inside but sometimes when the security door is inadvertently left open when taking the dogs out she sneaks out on the step on the deck. I was a afraid that I had not seen her and somehow shut her outside in the dark last night the last time I took the dogs out to do their business.
After searching everywhere including using a flashlight to look under the beds and searched everywhere and we finally come to the conclusion she had got outside. Got down to 16 F last night! We felt like we had let her down.
I went to the bathroom and when I came out there she was! Apparently the noise of construction has spooked her and she was hiding somewhere and would not answer our calls or even the shaking of her treat jar. Usually when I have the fireplace insert going she is curled up her soft princess bed soaking up the heat!
Anyway, Gabby is safe and sound and all is once again right in our world.
Great to hear Gabby is safe and sound! I’ve had that experience with construction leading to a disappearing kitty. I live in a 19th century old house and feared my fur kid had found a hole, gap or other way outside. I never figured out where he wiggled into to hide, but he turned up when it quieted. Give Gabby a pat or chin rub for me.

The wind is really whistling round the eaves this morn. Winter is here. Leaves swirling around somehow reminds of a dance….
17 F and “real feel” with the wind at 6 deg. at 08:00 this morning but the framing crew is here going at it. They will have sunroom under roof by the end of the day tomorrow. Biggest problem they have in this kind of weather is their pneumatic tools freezing up from moisture in the lines.
Just like air lines when the air dryer fails. One hasn’t lived until one finds oneself under a trailer with a three pound hammer in a Wyoming blizzard pounding upon brakes shoes.
Or pounding ice buildup with that same hammer in a Waterloo, Ia blizzard trying to disconnect the fifth wheel.
5 lb hammer does the job eventually. Best not to set one’s trailer brakes when parked in nasty winter weather. Leave them released and the truck idling. Hold the rig with the tractor brakes set.
I love the artistic displays of Nature; dancing leaves or swooping flocks of birds.
In a few hours the first storm of the season will arrive in Central NY. It will be a Lake Effect storm which splays out in narrow bands with one spot getting dumped on and not far away just an inch or two.
Yesterday I thought it might be about time to get a proper winter coat and boots. The nearing storm and the thought of shoveling in sneakers propelled me into the dreaded clothes shopping effort. Done. Let the snow begin . . .
How is your bird situation? I remember your post from a bit ago and you said many of them disappeared. The cold should be pushing the high elevation/New England/Canada birds down your way. I am very interested in the situation with the fires and wildlife populations. I had 2 of the biggest flocks of Kinglets I have ever seen come though my yard a few weeks ago.

The birds are beginning to return! (I called out to you in my post on Menagerie’s Thanksgiving thread, but think you may not have been on the thread that day.)
The air has been clear and clean for awhile now. About a week before Thanksgiving the first birds to return were a flock of starlings that hung out, doing their sky dances for me. A squirrel showed up about a month ago and has been busy munching on tree edibles. I have not seen my cardinal couple yet.
Not the full crew of wildlife yet, but a positive sign.
I am still on the lookout for some of my favorite wildlife characters that were regulars, like the male cardinal that used to follow Emily, one of my two rescues (before I got her inside.) He’d literally trail her everywhere scolding at the top of his lungs. Emily proceeded with her head held up as if he was heralding the arrival of the monarch (her). Suspect there is some history there.

When a small child went to see the amazing sight of two rail cars being dumped simultaneously into coal freighters there at Norfolk. The John F Kennedy was under construction if that tells how long ago that was….lol.
Similarly as a child, I got to walk across a railway foot-bridge over pass at the Harrisburg rail yards with the last of the steam locomotives passing under and enveloping us in steam (thankfully cooled enough when it reached us)
Dad was a freight agent on a commuter trunk line out of Philly and born in Altoona, a railroad town. Mom born in Harrisburg. They met late in high school, right before Dad enlisted in the Army at age 17 and went ashore at Normandy Beach after duty in Africa. Survived the Bulge, revisited with my Army captain brother late 80s and found the exact fox hole he dived into after taking shrapnel in the knee.
Been to Altoona and Harrisburg many times delivering Norfolk and Southern parts freight to and from the rail yards. Semi truck was faster than freight for railway parts from Chattanooga thru Roanoke, Enola (Harrisburg), Altoona and on thru Pittsburgh into Indiana and down into Illinois at Decatur. The supply shipments of parts also picked up in Chicago metro at various shippers.
Spent some layover hours in Altoona, Pa; it still has that small town railroad atmosphere and nice people.
It truly was the greatest generation wasn’t it? Several family members were in the war.

Id like to know when does it matter that the election WAS stolen and WAS proven fraudulent? They still hang their hat on the lie it wasn’t fraudulent, nothing could be further from truth. Over and over it is proven that fraud was rampant but no court will hear it. That also is another matter. I believe the court has no jurisdiction to rule against this issue therefor states must be the sole judge in each state of how the election was carried out. Or it is dependent on the parties to verify. Which in that case there are no rules. I suspect the latter is true.
Called up DISH to move the dish because the roofline of the sunroom is probably going to block the dish and because it will need to be moved anyway to allow for a direct path for the underground electrical service when they put that in. Details, details, details. Technician will be out Thursday morning.

The Alps are liberally peppered with plaques and other little monuments marking the places where free climbers made their last mistake. Think about it. All of us, no matter how coordinated, have at one time or another tripped on a crack in a sidewalk or on a flight of stairs or done some equally uncoordinated thing.
Hi Nim, don’t want to sound preachy, but you have such depth of knowledge on many topics, I thought you might want to know a bit more here. That’s Lynn Hill on ‘The Nose’ in Yosemite in ’93. Very famous climber and accomplishments. ‘Free climbing’ is using ropes with a belay by a partner. I taught technical rock climbing for over 25 years. ‘Free soloing’ is climbing sans ropes and gear.
In this photo, she is wearing a harness, her partner on the other end of the rope is not visible. Free climbing means without artificial aide. If one grabs a piece of gear to pull on, instead of just the rock, that’s ‘aide’. She was the first to climb this famous route with no such ‘aide’.
Much more to cover of course, but something akin to the left believing all guns are murdering assault weapons just waiting to jump off the table and kill someone, the truth is generally easier to understand than the hyperbole.
I met her a few times, she is level headed, has no death wish, and is not taking unrealistic chances when climbing at an iincredibly high technical level, using appropriate safety gear. All that said, does not diminish her many accomplishments. She is an incredible climber, and person.

Ha, this can go down a rabiit hole really quickly. My response was to the 1st picture, that’s Lynn Hill. In the purple, from 1993. Lynn was on belay. The 2nd photo also is ‘roped up’ but because of the proximity [photographer to climber] the ‘gear’ is just more visible. That’s not always the case [proximity] but the shear awesome-ness of Lynn’s position on that roof move made the photo almost famous.

The 2nd photo [I don’t recognize her from the photo] shows her using a ‘quick draw’ [2 carabiners on a short web sling] to ‘clip the rope into the gear as she reaches or passes it. It appears to be a’sport route’, where someone has used a hammer drill to bolt hangers onto the rock. That allows many climbers to climb the same route with no new/additional damage to the rock. Many believe climbers don’t take that into account, nothing could be further from the truth. Protecting the rock is highly valued by all but the most recent young thugs. Times are changing.
On Lynn’s climb, she is placing removable gear [cams, nuts, etc.] into the rock which is removed byt the 2nd [the person on the other end of the rope] as he/she climbs up to the new belay stance [where the 1st has set up a belay station].
Again, this is probably too much ‘in the weeds’ for most, I’ll end my diatribe here. But when I was a youngster, it was a ton-o-fun. I’m out of the loop now, but I still have a few younger friends that share their exploits. I taught thousands over my career [one of several] and still have remnants scattered about my domicile [ropes, harnesses, shoes, gear, packs, ice axes, etc.] So much ‘old’ junk now…

I have a 40-ish (yo) nephew-in-law who is an avid long time recreational climber. He has traveled the world to see and climb where possible, and has taken some awesome photographs along the way. Two years ago he and his girlfriend moved from Seattle to an old house in WV near a major group of climbing cliffs and rock faces. They are both pretty serious climbers. I do not think they’re as advanced as the young woman in the photos, but they’d probably surprise me.
Ha, ha, yeah, “muscle-to-weight ratio“, I remember that…barely.
Now it’s mostly weight to fat ratio for me.
Climbing is a hoot. It’s easy to transition even from one who is ‘afraid of heights’ to one who climbs. It’s the advent of climbing gyms that allowed for the easy change. Amongst the many folks I taught, I would often get that “I’m afraid of falling, so I just wanted to confront my fear” description from newbies. Once they learn to trust the gear [and use it correctly] that fear is greatly diminished.
I would count in the tens of thousands, the people that have moved from ‘checking out a gym’ to actually climbing real rock outside. We have thousands of established climbing areas all over the continent. I’ve climbed many of them. Memories…

It was a scientific agency, nearly all the professional scientists were men … we had 1 woman scientist out of about 20 … there were some other women but they were clerical
Think back to high school honors or college physics … almost all male in the 1970s
All the women were in drama or psychology classes
If I’d been in their classes instead of physics, chemistry, calculus … I’d likely have gotten a lot more girly action … if you grasp my innuendo (and Mick Jagger’s)
And they couldn’t really get on an Af-Am expectation or grievance (we had none) because this was Hawaii and there are very few in the population who aren’t active military.
