When the term “hate crime” came up in Texas, George W. Bush was governor. Dubya publicly pushed back against the legislature. He was not one to veto bills. It was more his style to state his issues with a bill and suggest that the lege reconsider.

The people rejected the criminal behavior as acceptable in a lawful society.
Unfortunately, the problem was in the gang culture that had been allowed to develop in some of the Texas prisons. The men who participated in the James Byrd dragging were ex-cons, at least one of whom had joined the Aryan Brotherhood in prison. The citizens had removed them from society and the prison system had allowed them back into society in a worse state. With enough work, the media and the grifters and people who perform their version of deep analysis by skating along the surface of a story with only the rigor allowed for going “live at 5” managed to portray the quiet communities of the area in around Jasper, Texas as being populated by toothless, illiterate, white inbreds who all agreed that it was fine for a random black man to be tortured and killed.
Even now, journalists pop up who are willing to dig into a wound that was not self-inflicted.

This is basic mathematics and denying it marks you as ******* stupid in that you obviously failed high school math, so if you claim some “advanced degree” or “advanced sort of knowledge” yet argue that dose-response is material with a virus you are a ******* idiot, should be expelled from your profession and, if you’re not and your “advice” is put into mandates taken out and hanged in public as you are literally going to injure and kill people and you are either maliciously doing so or are so ********stupid your conduct reaches and exceeds the standard of gross negligence.

It is an admission of his own youthful ignorance in embracing Marxism. He was willing to confront his then beliefs and, based on critical thought, turned away from them.
