I voted for George W Bush in 2000 specifically because he campaigned on the promise that he would disband the Federal Department of Education, which actually only provides 10% of the funding but imposes over 50% of the rules governing Public Schools… but as soon as he got into office, he pushed through the ridiculous No Child Left Behind Act and here we are, almost 25 years later, with property taxes through the roof and test scores getting worse every year and the teachers unions completely running the show! 🤬🤬🤬
For every other politician, its guaranteed they will do the opposite of whatvthey promise.
Embarrased to say I too, voted for “W” and did not join “Battered Conservatives Anonymous” and take the pledge to go “on the wagon” as far as voting for RINOS, until ROMNEY.
Yes, I DID vote for Palin, frankly having very unChristian thoughts about her running mate, but when mittens came along, I finally had had enough, and said “No MORE!”
Songbird specifically chose Sarah Pain to ensure that he would lose, as he had already planned (and had probably been paid) to do but no one told her! After her electrifying speech at the convention, TPTB had to neutralize her and they set about destroying her family, her reputation, and her career. Then McCain took the fall by “suspending his campaign” which only succeeded in making him look even more erratic and out of control, if such a thing was possible!
You are not the only one who voted for the VP candidate and hoped that she would assume office sooner rather than later! I was SO disappointed when she continued to remain loyal to him, even after he threw her under the bus, and his entire family utterly disparaged her after his passing!

The first year of No Child Left Behind my daughter was identified with a learning disability. We had been meeting with the teacher and principal the year before several times because she was not keeping up with her peers in reading. She went from the top reading group to the lowest in a short period of time. Granted the school was more interested in the percentage of children passing the end of the year tests and receiving the federal money but it worked to her benefit. The program they intended to use with her I researched and even spoke with the man who developed the program who said it would not help her specific needs. We placed her in a private school the next year that focused on children with learning disabilities and ADHD and used the Orton-Gillingham program. She flourished in the new school. She did transition back to public schools in high school and had the skills to advocate for herself. She is now married with children. Last year her oldest child started second grade and over the summer had lost some reading skills during the break. Her teacher had completed some new training program and was so excited she would have a student she could work with. The private school my daughter had attended offered testing and I suggested she check it out, which she did. My grand-daughter did not test as learning disabled and she was able to present the information to the teacher. Needless to say the teacher was disappointed she would not have a student to work the new program with. They did give her the extra attention to recover the skills lost during the break. She is one of the best students in the class this year. It is a lot of work to advocate for your child when the the system is against you and the best interests of the child. I am actually thankful for No Child Left Behind because I was able to use it to receive the services she deserved. The teachers definitely did not appreciate my efforts. Our schools use sight-reading to teach and about 80% of the children get it (intuitive learning) and the other 20% need a solid phonetic base approach to reading.
And most kids graduate without basic knowledge. It’s a shame.

I think a lot of people are not checking in as regularly since Sundance started taking a break from posting articles…
I know that he needs (and deserves) a break but I also know that I am not the only one missing his commentaries (and probably not the only one hoping that everything is okay and that his “break” is just that and not a sign of something else?)
Many of the Trump rally threads have been anemic in the past months and if you back out 2 or 3 of the posters, the numbers are really dismal. Same for this thread. This was happening way before Sundance’s absence.
There is also a noticeable change on the open thread over the past 6-8 months. It once was my first stop for morning prayers, but those posts and posters have all but vanished.
Maybe we’re experiencing a mid cycle/pre election slump. Maybe when (if) Trump get’s into full election mode with his mega MAGA rallies we will see those thousands of comments threads again. IDK, but things have definitely changed, they always do.
Holy Days and Holidays have been upon us, along with school beginning: over 1000 comments were made 2 or 3 days ago, and one day, when the Open Topic was placed first, rather than second, it received over 600 comments, most by mistake, since people obviously thought it was the Presidential topic, which on that day also received over 600 comments.
For my part, I have not been able to visit as often since June for family reasons.
I was speaking to the overall pattern and only mentioned it because there was a post related to the traffic. Overall, the trends are down from what was 4-5 years ago. Different posters, different moods, etc. can all be causes. As a researcher, I have learned to watch more than conclude and that is why I stated this might change as we get closer to the election season. IRDK.
I personally am frazzled & innundated with all the bad news, our feckless Republicans, donation requests, our 3 war fronts & the POS in the WH. IMHAO, it’s made it hard to even enjoy college football games this year.
