I will lay down my life in order to help my fellow Americans. I would not do that for Israel. I support Israel’s right to defend themselves. But, I won’t do it.
When you’re bankrupt charity begins at home. We give Israel billions of dollars each year for their defence. They’ve had one encounter with several hundred lightly armed Arab guerrillas. What happened to all the money we’ve given them for weapons that they’re running out of ammunition? Did Israel give it’s supply to Ukraine? If they did something as reckless as that then why should I have to pay for the mistake!

One of the MANY things that I have learned from this amazing site is that America isn’t (and hasn’t) been as *good* of a player on the world stage as I thought we were. Though I was aware that the USA was far from perfect, I was not aware that we were so intent on being (quite frankly) the bad guys. From meddling with foreign country’s democracies, to the massive corruption of our intel agencies, the FBI and (well) the entire Federal government.
I had no idea until visiting this site and reading from Sundance as well as posters like yourself.
I do not believe American leaders are intent on being the bad guys. What I do believe is that in the unipolar world since WW2 American leaders suffered from some bad cases of hubris at times, and misguided lack of understanding of the world and the people in it. A perfect case study in that is the misguided misadventure of nation building in Iraq. W tuly believed he could turn a Muslim country into a Western democracy and that Iraqis would see that he wa rescueing them and they would happily turn themselves into good littler Vermonters. Good intentions once again paving the road.

On multiple occasions I have seen folks express here a desire for Putin to nuke New York or Washington DC. I oppose those views with every fiber of my American being. Anyone who feels that way … well … flights leave every day from American airports to destinations all over the world. They can get on one and don’t come back.

Let’s go! I used to be on different sides of the issue before I fully explored things.
For example, South Africa was essentially uninhabited area. It was horrible for both hunters and gatherers and so the local populations didn’t really live there. So the Dutch settled there and largely did farming bringing use to the land that was effectively uninhabited. Similarly Israel, a location of great historical significance, has a rich history but was also similarly undeveloped especially in terms of civilization.
Why are these people so angry with these “occupiers?” They actually made the place a LOT better for anyone and everyone. People don’t need a good reason to be angry, they just have to hate themselves and to project it onto others. This claim of “Palestine” has been a lie since the FIRST time the word was uttered. There are no Palestinians. The use of the term was an insult against Israel. And that’s not unusual.
Greece is a name given to the country by foreigners. (enemies if I recall) They call their country Hellas or Hallada. It’s nice that they don’t create a fuss about it and insist that all the names on maps and globes be changed, but maybe they should. I’d rather it Hellas than Greece. Similarly I’d rather call a country Burma than Myanmar.

Johnson’s stated priorities are separating out bundled bills to individual bills and accountability for the spending. McCarthy did neither.
The sunlight of individual bills and spending accountability will put pressure on those non MAGA types when forced to go on voting record with their duplicity related to Ukraine in particular. This will expose them to their electorate, making them vulnerable to being primaried out of office. That threat could be very ‘unifying’.
IMHO, a smart, strategic move on Johnson’s part so I’m giving him lattitude.

By doing that, We would NOT need a Convention of States, which is where I assume you are going with “37 States”?

The nice thing about Federalism, is IF one State challenges federal overreach, in any of the MANY areas whete the Fed GOVT. has no Constitutional powers they WILL prevail, and that court ruling will apply to all 57 states.
Also, the threat to withhold Federal funds is exaggerated, and often an empty threat.
ONLY if the original legislation, authorising the Fed funds to the STATE, includes conditions the STATE MUST ADHERE TO, and the state does not, can the funds be withheld.
For instance, when States began the move to “legalise” mj, DEA talked about witholding Federal law enforcement $, but as no legislation specifically conditioned the State getting the $ based on MJ, they couldn’t really.

Yesterday, there was some scuttlebutt about Mark Meadows testifying against President Trump posted on Twitter by Ryan Fournier.
Apparently, Ryan Fournier found out his sources were not reliable. Hence this tweet:

How is this even possible? I’ve spoke with some of my sources again, and now it seems that information was wrong and incorrect. In fact, two of them retracted their statements on the matter entirely. What prompted the re-questioning and why? How do you completely redact what you said? His source going forward should be assumed liars. This is straight up crazy. He got caught lying is what I see.
I think Fournier simply & foolishly trusted his sources too easily, since Mark Meadow’s book was already out and available to read. I don’t think we can credibly accuse him of lying because we do not know what he did or did not know beyond what he has claimed. But we can accuse him of irresponsible reporting. He was too eager to “break the story” as inexperienced, careless reporters have done for decades.
Hopefully this will teach him a valuable lesson. Hopefully.

At the end of the day, I have no bonafide business, banking, financial, political experience (some serious academics though)…I just torture myself “thinking” on current events and how to protect my finances…so here goes another thought…
They say interest rates are high in order to curb inflation. We have high inflation/interest rates because we are spending too much. Who is “we”…?
WE have many millions of ‘got-aways’ from the border…once they are embedded, they are spending, so does that mean they too are driving up our inflation? And our interest rates?

What Really Happened on 7th October?
Now, detailed statistics on the casualties released by the Israeli daily Haaretz paint a starkly different picture. As of 23 October, the news outlet has released information on 683 Israelis killed during the Hamas-led offensive, including their names and locations of their deaths on 7 October.
Of these, 331 casualties – or 48.4 percent – have been confirmed to be soldiers and police officers, many of them female. Another 13 are described as rescue service members, and the remaining 339 are ostensibly considered to be civilians.
While this list is not comprehensive and only accounts for roughly half of Israel’s stated death toll, almost half of those killed in the melee are clearly identified as Israeli combatants.
There are also so far no recorded deaths of children under the age of three, which throws into question the Israeli narrative that babies were targeted by Palestinian resistance fighters. Of the 683 total casualties reported thus far, seven were between the ages of 4 and 7, and nine between the ages of 10 and 17. The remaining 667 casualties appear to be adults.

I think the Republican House may trade some funding for Ukraine (not unlimited funding) in exchange for solid actions in securing the border and deportations.
It is possible the majority of the Republican conference supports more funding also… and he is just acknowledging that reality. He is Speaker…not King.

Hamas’s main office is in Doha, where its leader, Ismail Haniyeh, leads a life of luxury. He watched Hamas’s Einsatzgruppen-like October 7 assault in his office there while prostrating “in gratitude.” Two weeks ago, Haniyeh met with Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Doha.
It was from Doha that Haniyeh’s predecessor as Hamas chief, Khaled Meshaal, called for the governments and people of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt to join the war against Israel.
Meshaal also resides in Qatar.
Qatar has provided $30 million a month in aid to Gaza since 2018. Didier Billion, deputy director of the French Institute for International and Strategic Advisors, has said, “These payments are justified to pay civil servants in Gaza, and we know perfectly well that the latter are members of Hamas. Doha’s money is therefore the equivalent of direct support for this organization which has held the Palestinian enclave with an iron fist for many years.”
Qatar also pledged $500 million to aid in reconstructing Gaza in 2021. Its total aid to Gaza as of 2023 is more than $2.1 billion.
Qatar also owns Al Jazeera, the highly influential Arabic-language news service that has been accused of supporting terrorism and spreading antisemitism.
After Hamas’s recent massacre, Qatar issued a statement that Israel was “alone responsible” due to “repeated raids on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
Given such evidence, it is undeniable that Qatar is openly on the side of Hamas in this war.

Kudzu: The Karkal Unit (that’s the way it’s spelled, in English, within the IDF) is an integrated male/female unit. The Unit’s role is “patrol and safety on the Israeli-Egyptian border.” Such integrated units are considered experimental and have been deployed mostly in the south of Israel, an area considered until October 7 to be lower risk than Israel’s northern border, with Lebanon.
I intend my comment to be factual (as far as I can tell) and not argumentive. That said, the issue of females serving in IDF front-line roles is highly controversial within Israeli society. Most certainly, post-combat analysis is going to look very closely at the combat performance of all units (all-male and integrated male-female) along the Gaza border.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, I came across this Newsweek story about dissension in the Russian army. That may or may not be true, but to me the writing seems like pure propaganda. It implies that Russia is losing this war, which is ludicrous.
What is even more of a revelation is the comments. The people are brainwashed and delusional. Many, many people think Russia is getting their ass kicked and it’s only a matter of time before they withdraw. IMO, it’s an example of how brainwashed people are by the MSM.
