This is our customary Treehouse benediction, Treeper friends. Sometime back Betsy and I were commenting on how much like a church our Open Thread sometimes seems. Are we a church? Is the Treehouse sometimes a church?
My take on things is pretty simple—if we gather and experience Our Lord’s presence, then we are experiencing church. I had this happen a few months ago while eating apple-pie with my Mormon missionary friends. Suddenly, we all felt the presence of the Lord. Yep. We were in church.
All churches are not enclosed within walls. 💒Treehouse is a church.
It is daily filled with community and prayer.

A group of us began a prayer group (before school). It is usually more than “three who gathered in His name” to pray. 🙏
Often, something mentioned here triggers a prayer offering from me at our little prayer group. 💒
Churches really can be wherever we find them. I found a very important one right here. 🏡

Actually, you are the church. When the veil was torn in two the spirit was released on all mankind. Your body is the vessel of worship, collectively we are the church. Individuals are its smallest component, without you or I there is no church. Go deeper and it becomes a very holy issue, and to ignore this fact is a very large part of our lack of meaning and influences.
One visual of our circumstances as believers is the modern idea of church, a building that you go to and sit and listen, to a man or woman, talk. When that is not enough you see why….it’s not enough. If we are Gods church, we must participate in a way that constructs and amplifies, not passive. “Passivity” is a curse to our cause.
When a person is converted there is a great desire to involve themselves in Gods work, that is the spirit prompting. Most churches are a very passive experience, subduing that need to spread the gospel.
With me, you are preaching to the choir.
With the Lord’s Prayer, that Jesus taught his disciples…..it gives a degree of reverence to Our Lord.
“For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, I am there….”.
The most profound feeling . . . And all you have to do is learn to listen.
The tension seemingly created without wisdom in the Middle-East has made sleep hard and the Lord’s Prayer my refuge. That others are struggling here at the Treehouse as well gives me hope. The music you post changes the topic and makes me smile.TYVM..

This is why I am un-churched . . . and intentionally so. I was be friended and became friends with three beautiful, smart, strong-believing young women— each of whom were experiencing a great life adventure. .
They made no demands—and unlike you—accepted that my being un-churched did not make me any less of a strong-believer. Indeed, from the first we all agreed that there are many paths that lead to Our Lord. It was then that we all felt the Spirit Of The Lord surround us. It was a beautiful moment.

The church is God’s people gathered together. Ecclesia is the word.
Is a virtual gathering legitimately the church of God? I kind of doubt it.
As physically created beings with body, soul and spirit. We must have the physical presence of one another.
“Let us not forsake the gathering of ourselves together”
This can be a great place to come together but it is not a replacement for coming together physically for worship, prayer, discipleship, discipline, and the other functions of the body of Christ. Go to church folks it is good for you … even the petty disagreements.
Happily you are not in charge of reality. Kinda pisses you off that our tattered cardboard “Treehouse Church” sign is actually a church for us, doesn’t it? Make you feel a little bit threatened, perhaps?

So, yes. Treepers who gather here in Christ and who express their faith via music, art, poetry and prose, and directly or indirectly praise of the Father and His Son, definitely can be called a church. ..

Over the past three years as so many denominations in their buildings fell away from their spiritual centres, exchanging Christ’s place within them for false gods…I could name them, but we all know what they are… our church here has become essential for most of us. I hesitate to speak for all.
Where we love one another, as we do right here with our brothers and sisters in Him, Christ is in the middle of us. Nothing anyone else who does not know us and our hearts can say will persuade me we are wrong.

While I am sure Christ intended the “gathering” to be in close physical proximity, in order to facilitate the mutual love for the Father, study and discussion of His Word, and to provide support for one another via physical assistance, food, etc.
Actual physical gathering also affords participants the ability to engage in more intimate and personal conversations than those in which we generally engage on a public internet.
Still, having an informal community gathering of Believers via the CTH Open Thread beats having No church by 1000%. And the Prayer Thread provided by our hosts extends that possibility so much further.

I read yesterday that a chain of drug stores is no longer going to carry some over-the- counter medications such as everyday heal yourself medications. allergy pills cold remedies etc..
This might sound good in some ways. They say, these medications do little good to the person buying them. However, I am suspicious. Are they trying to steer people with minor head colds into more serious drugs? What are they up to? What will be banned next. Aspirin? Antacids? …. VITAMINS? Doctors are always saying vitamin and mineral supplements are useless. and we KNOW they are not. Is this the next Pharma influence over our lives. Cui bono? I think it might be a good idea to stock up on a few basics.
FDA says the time ingredient phenylphedrine in oral cold medicines doesn’t work.
Well, it works for us beautifully when we’ve had colds.
But if the FDA says it doesn’t it must be true!!!!
At any rate having been aware that this was coming we bought up a healthy supply of them.
Brands which are to be withdrawn are Nyquil, Mucinex, Dayquil, and Sudafed.
We always bought WalMart’s Equate brand…cheaper by a lot with the same ingredients as the name brands.
And yes, I sense a “more effective” PRESCRIPTION cold medicine will be appearing shortly. With who knows what in it. No thank you.

Free speech is being suppressed in the U.K. . A land once known for its free speech.
Remember Hyde Park Corner?. Grab a soap box, get on it, talk about anything, and soon a crowd of listeners forms around you. I remember standing listening to several one evening while visiting London.
One speaker was probably an ‘unreconstructed Stalinist.’ There was always one of those, ranting about the good old days. There was often a group shouting about being ‘anti-Monarchy’ and wanting a Republic. Some wanted all foreigners thrown out. Some wanted England to separate from the rest of Britain ( as the rest were always causing trouble. 🙂 or join France or some such idea. There were all kinds of subjects they spoke about.
Epithets would fly back and forth, and some people just laughed and enjoyed the enter6tainment. The back and forth between the audiences and the speakers was highly entertaining. Insults were very colorful. almost Shakespearean sometimes, hardly ever obscene ( that was ‘bad form’) and opposite opinions were tolerated, but you had to have a thick skin to join in, or stand on a box.
Political correctness did not play any part in this free speech. I remember one person shouting on a soap box in particular. He had a amiable demeanor at first and was cheery with the audience to attract a group around him, who were also smiling and agreeing with him, many of whom were tourists from different lands, and they were ‘fair game’ to him.
He had a cultured and well-educated manner and way of speaking, and would start of his main theme (of not liking any foreigners) by saying for example. ‘any Germans in the crowd’? some victim would say ‘I am from Germany’ and he would start: I say to you Germans!….and then would come some less than friendly comment about theWW2, and the damage done to London etc,.or German food or German attire or customs etc. then are there any Spanish people here?, any Scottish people here? etc etc. and he insulted them all. Some of the taunts were fairly harmless like, ‘how can you eat that awful food?’ Some just laughed and walked away. Some sadly had their feelings hurt.
Free speech was king and you had to be prepared for it, and maybe’ to give a good as you got.’ One exchange I remember was: ‘And I say to you Arabs’, take those sheets back to the Dorchester (hotel) where they belong!
Imagine the difference now in free speech in U.K. where people get arrested for ‘wrong think’ Approaching people and asking them if they knew about Jesus(in what used to be a Christian country). and scary anti-social things like caring ladies silently praying the Rosary across the street from an abortion clinic, it is they who need to be arrested..
Nonconformity, and the freedom to think for ones self is what scares the brain-washed sheep that inhabit the streets of Great Britain now. And other once proud nations, some with old civilizations, that once had high ethics, they are all falling into the same insane WEF/EU, NWO. mindless obedience and slavery. Good people are the ones who are get arrested. Evil psychopaths rule. We must resist.

In the 70’s and early 80’s Julian Bream and John Williams performed a number of concerts that were both iconic and instantly legendary. Bream and Williams were good friends and this undoubtedly helped compliment their musical styles. They went on to produce several celebrated “Julian and John” LPs which became international hits.

-Israel uses an air strike on a mosque in the West Bank because there was a terror unit in a tunnel underneath on its way to go to commit an operation. This is the first such air attack in West Bank in decades. We are calling it “a ticking time bomb”. IE if you don’t kill them right away people will die.
-A terror unit in Lebanon ready to shoot missiles eliminated.
-IDF’s Speaker : Hezbollah is dragging Lebanon into war.
-14 more towns in the north are evacuated. Israel sends them to hotels.
-Apparently the second fleet that the US is sending is for an air umbrella.
-IDF exchanges fire in a city in the West Bank. IDF aresring many members of terror organizations. Specially Hamas.
-IDF confirms that there are 210 known kidnapped. (There are more as far as I know. They release only fully confirmed numbers). 1300 dead. 4200 injured.

It was barely light as I began my morning walk. Rounding the corner, I heard the chatter of Hispanic workers preparing to climb onto a roof to start scraping off old shingles before replacing them with new ones. From dawn to dusk, they’re hard at work. Despite the physical, often-dangerous labor, all day long they’re happily jabbering away and laughing. What a welcome contrast to so many listless, grim employees in more comfortable, higher-paying jobs!
Yet, with these hardworking Hispanic roofers likely being either first or second generation “illegals,” the irony hit me all the more having just returned to the States on a flight from London to Nashville. Even as a U.S. citizen with Global Entry status, I had to go through the strictly monitored entry at “Border Control.” And, of course, fellow passengers from other countries were having to show their passports and patiently-acquired visas. If you come by plane, don’t forget your paperwork. If you come by foot, what paperwork? Considering the millions of “illegals” coming through porous borders, “Border Control” is a ludicrous oxymoron!
The thing is, I’d rather have work gangs of Hispanic roofers than local hoodlum gangs! Got a great idea. Let’s do a “prisoner exchange” of sorts. Let’s figure a way to legally process these millions of hardworking, underpaid, otherwise-law-abiding Hispanics, and—to balance the numbers—send millions of druggies, shoplifters, deadbeat dads, and lazy, welfare-dependent moochers to countries where miserable living conditions would be a wake-up call!
The real solution, of course, is formulating policies and spending tax dollars to improve working and living conditions in the countries of origin so that no one will be prompted to leave homes and families in search of a better life. Why should we rob the hardest working—and often the best and brightest—from Third World countries that need them most? Our marginal gain is their tragic loss. “Love your neighbor” is never more needed than beyond our own borders.
When the issue is immigration, I can recognize a broken system when I see one. Having watertight checkpoints at airports but not on the Rio Grande is a mockery! Yet, to my everlasting chagrin, I can’t seem to escape something within myself not unlike the schizophrenic state of our shambolic Border Control. It’s the schizophrenic state of my own Self Control. At the most obvious checkpoints—in my writing, Bible class teaching, sermons, worship, and prayer—I’m pretty good at strict enforcement. Thoughts bearing a righteous stamp are waved through as smoothly as having a passport in hand. Unauthorized thoughts are denied access.
It’s away from these closely guarded checkpoints that my spiritual borders become frustratingly porous. Can you relate? Would that I could do a “prisoner exchange,” sending all the unwelcome thoughts back to wherever they come from, making more room for the purer thoughts that enhance and uplift my soul. Or, should that be the other way around—having a soul so full of spiritual thoughts that there’s no room left for any unspiritual “illegals”?
I can never understand those who protest against whatever it takes to secure our nation’s borders. Seems elementary, Watson. When the roof leaks, it’s time to reroof. When the border leaks, it’s time to shut it tight. And—just as with our pitifully porous Border Control—when my pitifully porous Self Control is out of control, it’s high time I brought it under control! What, you too?

Doc, discipline and self control are essential in order to achieve anything in life. However, my own personality is not quite so structured. I am more of a qualitative over quantitative personality. I’m not so much a slave to “the letter of the law” as I am to the “intent of the law”.
Allow me a personal story to illustrate. In my HS BC days … a friend of mine took a 6 pack of beer from his dad and told me to put it in my locker for a school dance later that night. So at about 5:30p I took the beer under my coat to my locker and walked thru the empty hallways to my locker. I went to a HS with open, one-story hallways … that faced a 20ft wide open landscaped strip and buildings with huge window walls opposite. I started jamming the beer into my messy locker from inside my coat and the very last can of beer fell on the concrete hall and started rolling behind me. I turned, fell to the ground to pick up the beer … grabbed it … then looked up. Oops! The Dean of Boys was standing at the window of his office opposite my locker (he wasn’t there when I had looked earlier … and believed he’d gone home for the day). He motioned for me to his office. I was busted.
By every letter of the Law … I should have been expelled, reprimanded, black mark put on my record, dismissed from the football team, etc. etc. He could have thrown the book at me. He did NONE of it. Nothing. What I got was a lecture from a man who said he knew I was a “good kid” and couldn’t believe I would do anything so utterly stupid. He said he was disappointed in me, and told to never do anything like that again. And worst of all … he made me open every beer and pour it out in the landscape. Thankfully, this was 1972 … long before the idiotic (IMHO) “zero tolerance” policies by our public schools.
My Dean used his qualitative judgement that “I was a good kid” … and he was right, I was a good kid with a good heart. Ironically … one year later I found myself in this same Dean’s office … pouring my heart out to him about how I had to leave my single alcoholic father’s home because there literally was no food in the home, and had been hitchhiking to and from school from a neighboring city where friends had taken me in. I told him those friends were moving to Wyoming, and I didn’t want to leave the HS, friends, or football team. I told him I didn’t know what to do. He was shocked. He had NO IDEA any of that was happening to me, as I hid it well and never really told anyone that I was a homeless kid in an upper-upper middle class CA suburban town. I just wanted to be “normal” and have a “normal” life like my friends.
Again … he could have told me that this wasn’t his problem and that “by the Law” … I wasn’t even eligible to be a student in his HS as I lived “out of the District”… But Bob was a Christian man … unknown to me, because he showed no outward signs of being a Christian. He simply told me that he’d see what he could do. Months prior to speaking with the Dean, I had gone to my Football Coach, who was a very pious Catholic man and told him the same story and asked for his help. He promised to help me … but never did anything. I was desperate and at the end of my rope when I went to the Dean.
Well … Bob asked his Lutheran Pastor the very Sunday after we spoke if he could address the congregation. Bob stood up and told the congregation of my story and my plight. And he directly asked if there was any family who felt called to help this good kid experiencing difficult circumstances. Less than a week later, a family (who had 4 nearly grown kids) stepped forward and said they’d be willing to take me in. Well … I was shocked when he called me back into his office and told he’d found a place for me to live … and that I’d be part of the County’s Foster Care system. I was both relieved and horrified at the same time. All I ever wanted to be was a “normal kid” … but I guess this would have to do.
Bob, the Dean had multiple opportunities to deal with me according to the “letter of the law”. Instead … he made qualitative judgements … repeatedly. Bob lived-out Christ’s Word that He came to “fulfill the law” rather than “enforce the law”. Without a doubt, Bob the Dean, LOVED me more than any other person ever in my life (sorry Dear). And I never had a clue that he did. He took discipline and self-control and applied it to his loosey-goosey “qualitative” judgement about my character. He changed my life for the better … forever. He was right about me. He was a man of tremendous depth, discernment, and insight. I have tried in my life … but I have still never achieved Bob’s level of fulfillment of Christ’s love. But I’m still trying.
So, back to the roofers. BTW I just had a fabulous Latino roofer, Lupe, work for me. What a hard working, competent son of a gun … and really sweet, nice, guy. Our immigration problem … besides the Biden cabal simply wanting a “replacement population” … is that we have lost “the intent” of our immigration law. The “intent” of our immigration law should be to welcome anyone who has value to our society and country. Open our doors to those who LOVE what America IS and what it represents, and who will contribute. The only “quantitative” measure of immigration should be how many newcomers can be successfully integrated into our society … but the REAL measure should be the “qualitative” judgement about type of immigrant that is desirable for America. Trump has called for this, repeatedly. If there’s anything “broken” about our immigration system … it’s that we’ve lost all sense of the “intent” of the law and just admit more and more and more with no regard to their ability to contribute. We need Bob, The Dean of Boys, in charge of our immigration system … we need discernment and wisdom … if not divine intervention.

I have wanted to write the author of that piece and ask what he thought of our immigration issue. I think he would agree with you. I agree in the intent of the immigration laws, and our current unenforced laws do that, it is just that the system is unacceptably slow — and open borders are still a problem.
I posted the article as support and identification with Lagard in that I have many open borders in my mind as well. Sundance and many on CTH encourage us to live our best life, continue to be who we say we are. Be salt and light. It doesn’t make much difference if we have effective borders to bring in those who support the values and intent of this country, if we are a cesspool of people as a country and not seeking to be the best we can be.
My Brit husband went through the mill applying for and getting his green card. The final insult was having to carry his chest x-ray from Britain to Texas and present it, unopened, to immigration officials here.
Jumped ever time they said jump, which was at their leisure with no warnings when each time would be.
Which is why for us no checks or requirements for illegals with the taxpayer playing the role of Lady Bountiful really grates.

How to get a weapon license in Israel:
Israel doesn’t have Second Amendment. When you read this you will appreciate the Second Amendment. You should.
Since the war began there are 100,000 requests for weapon license. Remember that the US is 40 times larger than the Jewish population of Israel. So it’s like 4,000,000 Americans. Regulations were loosened up but still it’s not the US.
One has to submit the documents on a website and wait. The terms: One must be an Israeli citizen or permanent resident. Must understand Hebrew.
Must be 27 or above or 21 if he served in the IDF or National Service (Some who can’t do IDF do National Civil Service). No criminal record and should pass required training. Must be healthy mentally and physically. IE capable to operate the weapon physically too. A medical approval is required for it. After this one is getting an interview on the phone or dismissal from it.
The circle of the qualified was expanded to:
Agriculture people.
IDFs combat certificate from the past 20 years since they left the army or active reserves or from the last day one had a legal weapon. (Note there are yearly training required). This clause refers to combat soldiers and security forces, High level trained ex-soldiers or police etc…
-Lives or works on locations that are considered dangerous like West Bank, by the Borders etc… Must be 21 and served in the military or National Civil Service. Must have served a year in combat or two years on none combat. A few more locations which were attacked recently entered the list of qualified. Until now it required a full service and it was reduced to one year combat or two years otherwise.
New Immigrants -Only id lives at the list of dangerous locations. It used to require three years and now can be without delay.
Workers and volunteers in Paramedic and rescue organization similar to Red Cross etc… One year experience minimum.
Fire fighters if they has weapon before and asking not too late past the time they left. Same to ex-police.
Others – Travel guide, hunter, weapon instructor, and a couple other professions that I don’t know how to translate.
Steps to take:
1. A request form.
2. ID.
3. Past IDF service certificate or National Civil Service (Some who can’t do IDF can do Civil Service).
4. Medical approval physical and mental. Shows you can operate a weapon and also mentally qualified.
5. A shooting course certificate.
NOTICE THAT IF YOU WERE NOT A COMBAT SOLDIER AND YOU DON’T LIVE IN ONE OF THE ALLOCATED AREAS OR HAVE THE ALLOCATED PROFESSIONS< YOU CAN’T GET A WEAPON. THIS IS MOST OF THE POPULATION.

Israel needs a Constitution. Not just Second Amendment. We have Fundamental Laws but it’s too easy to undermine by a bad government or even the Supreme Court.
Our Constitution as great as it is has been diminished over time by those who wish to fundamentaly change our nation (Obama was a Constitutional “expert”). Those that called it a “living” document have seriously undermined the purpose and meaning of the Constitution. The founders understood that over time there might be a need to change or amend the Constitution but the process is not easy (as it should be). As a man who raised his hand and gave an oath to defend the Constitution at the age of 17 and truly believed the words I spoke, it infuriates me beyond words when those who are “elected”and take this same oath do not honner their promise ( the governor of New Mexico being just one recent
example). I truly believe that We the People will soon figure out that no one man is going to save them, they only need to have more rights taken away, recognize that they are the true power of this nation and stand up for their rights.

Intention maters. We had babies murdered in front of their parents and parents murdered in front of their children. We had beheadings and decapitations. We had eye gouging and rape of girls. We had the kidnapped of all ages including some girls who were taken specifically for rape. And I am saving you the worst and yes we have the footage and whoever need to see it can see it. I also heard the heart breaking testimonials of first responders and the people who specialize in cleaning up bodies many broke.
Those support demonstrations are nothing but the latest form of Nazism. They yell “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free” and they just showed what they mean. Many of the Progressives think it’s a statement of the Palestinian state over the Jewish state and avoid the genocidal meaning and intention of it. In Israel we know well what they mean when they say it.
There is no possible moral equivalence. Hamas savagely butchered people, from babies to the aged. They committed crimes and torture that still have me thinking about it, and like you said, I can’t possible know the worst.
Israel has tried and tried to get the non-combatants to get out. They have treated even injured Hamas fighters. They have, since the birth of the nation, tried to live in peace with savages who are perhaps demon possessed.

I see no attempts to redefine “genocide.”
Hamas is not “the Palestinians” or an entire ethnic group of people, as are the Jewish people, against whom Hamas HAS declared genocide.
Hamas is a terrorist army, equivalent to Hitler’s Wermacht, whose annihilation in WW2 was not protested by anyone in U.S., the British Isles, or in the European countries that had been brutalized and occupied by the Wermacht. And, many innocent German civilians were killed in Allid bombings over Germany. Few in command wanted that and took great pains to enact daylight “precision bombing”, even at the cost of hundreds of air crews’ lives.
Hamas has purposefully embedded itself among Palestinian civilians in Gaza so as to deliberately cause any innocent Palestinians harm when Israel retaliates against the terrorists. They don’t wear uniforms, so they’re not always easy to spot.
I am only assuming there are innocent Palestinians (certainly the young children who haven’t yet been brainwashed) because every time the US or Israel suffer deaths and losses from an attack, we only see Palestinians – men AND women – dancing in the streets around the world and shouting gleefully at our suffering and losses.
That is why Israel warned the innocents to evacuate Gaza while the IDF goes in to wipe out the terrorist army, knowing it will entail much damage to the infrastructure in which Hamas has taken up residence. If the goal was genocide, Kenji, there would have been no warnings nor any delays.

I’ve watched for many years, my whole life, and the conclusion I have come to is that no one cares about the Palestinians. They just hate Jews. It’s that simple.
When I say no one, I mean the vast majority, certainly over 90%, most likely over 99%.
Why do I say this – because people only care about these Palestinians when Israel is involved. They don’t care about the Palestinians in refugee camps in Syria, Lebanon, etc for 75 years. They didn’t care when the Syrian civil war tore through the Palestinian refugee camp. They don’t care when Hamas uses them as human shields. Etc.
Further to that, people who believe Israel causes pain to the day to day life of ‘innocents’, only seem to care if those innocents are at the hands of Jews. For example, loads of people all over the world live in appalling circumstances, like North Korea, Iran, China, etc. No one is out on the streets for them, no one boycotts for them, etc. (Again, not literally no one, but incredibly tiny numbers).
And yes, I am Jewish. And I live not far from Sydney, where the day after the attack, chants of “gas the Jews” and “f the Jews” were on the steps of the Opera House – and setting off illegal flares. But the police only arrested one Jewish man, for disturbing the peace.

I know how the IDF is operations in Gaza.
They have a “bank of targets”. They build this over years using spies and any means.
When the bank is drained they used to make a s cease fire.
This time in addition to the bank there are also the routes in which the soldiers will move. It will be bombed ahead of time.
There is also the interrogation of the Hamas hostages. Hundreds of them. I am already seeing houses of the leaders of the 10/7 attack going down with them.
Then will be intelligence gathering on the move.
Israel is a small nation and every casualty and dead hurts the many. So there will be as many bombing as necessary and as many assassinations of the command as to make it the least costly in human lives.
