If you have trouble with a regular trap, you might ask a local rescue groups to borrow a Drop Trap.
This worked a charm for me after failing with a regular trap which my would-be kitty rescue would not go in. Backstory her tipped ear told me she had been previously trapped, neutered, ear tip clipped and released –before our paths crossed). Fool me once. No way she would go in the regular trap.
I was frantic to get a hold of her as she was badly injured. Rescue group advised a drop trap and it worked, one try and done!

There is a good ending. She recovered from surgery (there went my snow tire budget) and is enjoying a less adventurous life indoors with me and my other kitty.
A love, playful, but a bit bossy. After she uses the litter box, carefully covering over her business she comes looking for me wide-eyed and yelling –‘Emergency, scoop the box!’ … cannot abide a single piddle in there when she next needs to go. There are multiple well-scooped boxes under her vocal supervision thru the day.

I’m trying to catch my breath here, If. If I were on a desert island and could take the music of one composer, it would be Bach’s. All of it, everything he ever composed.
But this young lady!! At 11??!? How composed and serene she is. As long as there are youngsters who are learning the composers of old, we won’t worry that their works will fall into obscurity. A sublime performance and a wonderful life of the joys playing a guitar ahead for this child.
Agreed, but sadly, she dropped out of visibility on the web. Perhaps something happened, or what if she started a family and decided that was more important – I’d still like to know.
I am sorry about that, but I hope if nothing else she will continue to play, or eventually teach, for her own pleasure. She has been given an incredible gift.

In the UK there was (still is?) a fascinating hour long radio programme called “Desert Island Discs”.
A well known personality sits for a conversation with that show’s compere. Interspersed in the conversation are the personality’s selections of music he or she would take if confined to a desert island.
This is the programme where the late Barry Humphries (Dame Edna) graciously gave his thoughts and selections.
We looked forward to this hour every week which gave insight into those we knew only by name or television personae.
Humphries was quite a serious man apart from his riotous “Dame”.
This is one we enjoyed immensely.
…and this one with Dame Judi Dench. I love her in every role she took on.

Greg, this may sound ridiculous, but I remember exactly where I was when his death was announced. I wept buckets, in part because I knew we’d lost a part of the America we loved, never to be seen again My tears were as much for that as they were for his passing. He was iconic.
I know you miss your dad. My husband was very close to his, and though he has been gone thirty years, there isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t mention his father…understand the hole your dad’s absence has left in your life. That you measure the time since he died in half years tells me how much of one. I am so sorry for your missing 💕

That’s pretty much EXACTLY the way I learned to swim at age 7. My grandparents vacationed at Clear Lake CA where their Attorney owned a small, rustic resort with a nice boathouse and dock and a small floating dock. I was literally thrown off that small floating dock … and told to swim (dog paddle) my way back. Say what you will … but self preservation coupled with desperation enabled me to swim … not sink.

Uncle threw me off the sailboat into the lake at five.
– Followed his instructions:
“roll on your back and float”… and the rest is history.

Visited Happy Camp, Ca once and saw Dave McCraken of gold dredging fame in a wee diner there. N. Cal redwoods and area just beautiful but I must say I wouldn’t wish to live there especially on the coast with the drizzle that starts in Oct and doesn’t end until May.
Hahaha, I was 25 years living in the Monterey Bay area. The marine layer socked us in all of spring and summer. Our summers usually began in September when the kids went back to school and ended in March when the fog would roll back in. It’s a beautiful area but I’m glad I don’t live there anymore.

Is it like that up around Crescent City and Redwoods Park? I assumed it to be (hearsay) like Eastern coast range Oregon/Washington.
Monticello, I know the area well. Yes, marine layer all along the coast and cold. Drive 10-20 miles inland and it’s warm and sunny.
I used to spend a couple of weeks every summer with aunts and uncles who lived in Crescent City. One uncle was a redwood logger, one a farmer and one a foreman for the highway department.
My grandparents with 7 kids moved from Minnesota to a farm on the Rogue River around 1927. They then moved to Crescent City and settled there.
Summers for my brother and I were filled with camping,trout fishing in snow melt streams, salmon fishing in the ocean, clam digging ,wild berry picking, swimming in the north fork of the Smith River or a mountain lake. Never a dull moment and so many wonderful memories.
Sounds wonderful! A friend used to live in Coos Bay, another in Sweet Home. I have fished around Creswell and some of the tributaries around Depoe Bay. Went prospecting on the Rogue and it’s grand country, if memory serves the original True Grit film was filmed in the Rogue area.
I only visited in Summer and I must have the coast range and inland winter weather confused with actual on the coast weather.
Such grand times in spectacular country for you too. Yes, coastal summer is wet and cold.
Last trip north was with my husband who had never been to Northern California. We drove up Highway 101 to Crescent City from San Diego in July. When we arrived the ground fog was thick and temp was about 55. Next morning we headed east on 199 to I 5 south. We made a big circle back to San Diego. Of course driving down 5 was super hot. All the different terrains within the state are amazing to see every time.
Just to clarify … those weren’t Redwoods you saw at Happy Camp … those were Giant Sequoia. Sequoia Dendron Giganteum. Redwoods are Sequoia Sempervirons. Both Sequoia Genus, but radically different Species. One a warm weather, drought resistant tree, the other MUST be cloaked in fog to stay wet.
I should have been more clear, sorry. I visited Redwoods Park to see Redwoods also and enjoyed seeing both them and the Giant Sequoia. It was all very impressive, the Old Growth fir in Oregon/Washington are something to see in their own right.
They are both enormous trees.
All this Redwood talk got me thinkin about the Doobie Brothers … don’t ask me why …

Today is Earthquake Day. The Loma Prieta, California Earthquake happened in 1989 at 17o4 (5:04 pm). It’s the one that collapsed the freeway up in Oakland.
I and my family lived in Marina, just north of Monterey. Thankfully we sustained no damage. It was amazing watching our very large single pane plate glass window wave like a flag without breaking. Cities around us had damage and the small bridges along the coast north toward Santa Cruz collapsed.
My youngest was so scared that the house was going to collapse that with every aftershock for days she would run outside. It took us about 4 hours to get our cat out from under a bed. Poor guy had been neutered earlier that day so he was doubly freaked out.
I talked to my daughter last evening and she was complaining about the heat in mid October which reminded me of the Earthquake. So I reminded her it was in the 90s that day.
Earthquake weather? My youngest son was born on Oct. 19, 1987 aka Black Monday when the stock market crashed … the very day Oakland Hills Fire started on Oct. 19, 2001 … and the Loma Prieta eq shook on Oct. 17, 1989.
Yeah … mid Oct. is a frightening time of year (well except for my son’s birth). I’m always waiting for a shoe to drop.
Good morning Kenji. Yes, earthquake weather comes with the Santa Ana’s in the Fall. Seems to be an ill wind when it’s October. My son was also born in October and if he’s going to have issues it’ll be in October. I tend to hold my breath until November arrives.
I had a relative in San Jose. She said she couldn’t stand upright during the quake after everybody had run outside.
I was in grad school in LA. We heard that a grad student had decided to use a milligram balance to weigh out a sample of something in San Diego and couldn’t zero the balance – it turned out to be the seismic waves disrupting the sensitive balance, all the way from San Francisco. Wow.
I believe that. It was a big quake that seemed to last forever.
It went on a long, long, long time … and I am a vet of dozens and dozens of earthquakes. I was working late in our brand new office building in Larkspur, CA. I was literally afraid to take the Richmond San Rafael bridge home after hearing of the Bay Bridge. And the Richmond San Rafael bridge already looks like it was built by the lowest bidder. 😜
Yeah, kinda like the Martinez bridge for lowest bidder status.I would have been afraid too. Thankfully, I didn’t have any driving to do outside of Marina. Everything closed down until inspections were done so the kids and I were homebound. My husband had to work and rode his motorcycle the 5 miles to his job.
I’m a second generation Californian so, like you, rumblers we’re no big deal until that one!

-General of CENTCOM Michael Corolla is arrived to Israel as a guest of Chief Of Staff. He will be briefed. I have never seen so many Americans involved in an Israeli war. Most people think it’s a sign of cooperation. I don’t know what to make of it? Maybe there is an option of an attack on Iran and the US may get involved in such a case. But it’s a remote possibility.

-I have a reliable report from a social media source that the number of terrorist who infiltrated was actually 2900 , 1500 killed, 500 captured and the rest went back to Gaza. This is not confirmed data. This social media source tends to be correct but not always. A lot more terrorists than we thought.
-Netanyahu talked with Putin and told him that Israel is going all the way against Hamas.
-Russian proposal in the UN to force a cease fire was rejected. I don’t know more than that but I am sure that the US vetoed it.
-Hamas release a video of one of the hostages. She is saying she had a surgery in Gazan hospital and is well and asking Israel to get her home.
‘This is a psychological war. She doesn’t look well at all. She is young maybe 17 old and her eyes look really overwhelmed. I say video of her before and she looks so bright and happy.
-Assassination of a senior Hamas head of political Office. Was over hostages affairs in the past. Not this time.

So in a way what happens could be looked at as a miracle because now Israel have 400,000 ready for war and the Iranian plan to annihilate Israel is off the plan because Hamas didn’t wait for the Iranian order. -An anti tank rocket fired into the north town Metula by the Lebanon border. Hezbollah is attacking a few times a day and Israel responds with moderation. Looks like Biden is pressuring Israel to cool the north border even if we get casualties.
Israel lost about 6 soldiers by Hezbollah in the past week.
-Israel evacuated some 24 towns by Lebanon border. The town that got the rocket is amongst them.
-Hamas says they are holding 200 Israelis and a few high ranks. 50 not in their control. Will release foreign nationals. Probably not dual nationals.
-Israeli Security official :It’s possible that are still more terrorist inside Israel.
-Rockets on and off on South Israel.
-Israeli Chief of Staff of IDF in a letter to soldiers: “The war will be long and difficult but we will win. We will defeat the enemy and restore safety to Israel.”
-Trump in Iowa : “I will deport immigrants who support Hamas.”
-Defense Minister of the U.S. to his Israeli counterpart : “Avoid hurting civilians of Gaza”. Thanked him for restoring the water line to south Gaza.
Note : Instead of talking about the hostages and Israeli casualties they represent the Gazans. This seems to be the priority of the DNC. I said a million times that Bibi is making a huge mistake for coordinating military actions with Biden and for waiting with the invasion. The more he waits the more pressure will come about the Gazans.

The guy was in my estimation about as rough and tough as a guy can look.

I saw it and almost posted it here. There are some other crazy videos like a soldier peeing on the bodies of Hamas terrorists. In regular tines they could go to jail. We are in war and there is no time to deal with such incidents and they are expressing the rage of many so it’s being overlooked so far. The enemy is using such videos in their propaganda. Biden’s dementia is not the problem. It’s his misguided idea of using this situation to eliminate Hamas, replacing it with Palestinian authority Abu Maazen and form a Palestinian State. He doesn’t understand that Palestinian Authority is covert but they also never gave up their “wipe Israel off the map” ideology and they are likely to be removed like happened in Gaza and then we are dealing with another Hamas also in the West Bank only it will have another name. Genocide is very popular amongst Palestinians. We would love to coexist but it is not both ways.

There is a lot going ion so I will just pick the main points.
-The most significant assassination so far. In a combined action of Shabak (the spy agency in Gaza) and IDF a senior commander of the central Gaza is taken down. Very close to the leadership and possibly a candidate to replace some.
-Another anti tank attack by Hezbollah in the north. IDF fires artillery back and kill a few terrorists. I have heard that there are some 6-7 Israeli died in todays attack but it is not published. This is the 13th attack Hezbollah is taking responsibility for and they publish footage too. They are taking down many electronic observation posts of the IDF. They are preparing positions to a war and the IDF is basically containing it. After all Biden sent ships and is trying to prevent the war from expanding.
As I said before the dependence on Biden is a huge mistake. It has never happened before. Bibi is trying to secure an international support for a long war in Gaza. Hezbollah has the capability to flatten many of the most strategic targets in Israel from Air Force bases to water and electrical to nuclear sites. Waiting can cause us a lot.
-Iran’s supreme leader Kamenai is threatening action against Israel if Israel not stopping the attacks in Gaza. He claims that the attack of Hamas was not on civilians because “the settlers are armed”.
We have a term in Hebrew : “Bar Mavet” = “Worthy of death”. When we use this term we mean that someone did so much bad that they will be eliminated. Kamenai is “Bar mavet” in my opinion.
-German Chancellor is visiting Israel. -Opinion: Biden’s support is only going to be financial and munition. If Israel is attacked from all directions with all forces combined he will not intervene. Therefore Israel is doing an error for containing the attacks in the north. A preemptive attack can will change the outcome and disaster that can be if we wait and then get attacked in full force. Hezbollah have 200,000 missiles many are precise. They are many times stronger than Hamas. Bibi is on the wring track if you ask me. But there may be things that I don’t know and I hope that I am wrong.
-So far The Chief of Staff of the IDF, the Head of Shabak (Spy agency in Gaza in West Bank and internal), the Head of Military Intelligence, are taking responsibility to the failure. They all say they will investigate and conclude later but now we have a war to do.
Am wondering if Israel could reduce its dependency on Biden by looking to the black market for weapons. Reportedly much (most?) of the weapons Biden supplied to Ukraine ended up on the black market.
I am not privy to what is going on in talks between Blinken and Netanyahu but if it is intending to constrain Israel, then I’m hoping Israel can find a way to break free from that level of dependency and find alternate avenues for obtaining needed equipment/munitions.
Am wondering if Israel might be able to procur needed munitions on the black market (lately Ukraine/Afghanistan are supplying the black market) The Ukraine supply ma be lower tech, older munitions/equipment than what Israel gets from Biden, but apparently much of the $84B in equipment we left in Afghanistan is new and high tech and is also showing up on the black market.
David, I know neither of us are being asked for strategy by those in power, and I admit I know nothing about weapon procurement or contracts and agreements already in place. Am just wanting Israel to be able to defend itself without being hobbled.

Horror images from the site and Hamas blames Israel.
IDF is saying they are investigating and it could also be a failed rockets inside Gaza.
If my footage is authentic then it is either the IDF accidentally or Hamas failed missile and there were explosives in the hospital. Which wouldn’t be surprising. Note that in previous rounds the IDF managed to document similar claims and show it was their own missiles going wrong.

My social network group have live feeds of the skies of Gaza and we have a proof that this was a Hamas missile.
Just before it happened they warned of some massive attack on Israel (I think on Haifa) then this happens.
You can see at 14:00 that their rocket is landing on them.

My social media group are having a live feed of Gaza and they proved that the missile on the Hospital was self inflicted. IDF also say it’s Islamic Jihad. I am sure they will have a better footage.
Israel must issue a strong warning to TV channels that they will be sued for a blood libel if they wrongly blame Israel.

Update Israel:
This one is important. The Arab world is getting “on fire” after the Gazan hospital catastrophe.
Massive riots in the West Bank. Canceling the meetings with Biden. Extreme condemnations of Israel by Egypt, Jordan and all of them. Hezbollah is calling for a “day of extreme rage”. The IDF will have to shoot anyone who approaches the border violently. I am concerned that we are about to see an untied attack on Israel of a regional proportions.
Israel is saying it was the Islamic Jihad and published a video to prove it. They don’t care. I am not an expert but the video is not supper conclusive if you’re not an expert.
I feel we are getting close to an Independence War level of confrontation including Israeli Arabs.
Palestinians in the West Bank are pissed off at Abu Maazen the Palestinian Authority. Remember I said the idea of getting him to lead a Palestinian State will result in him getting replaced by another Hamas style organization ?
It’s a bit too soon to say but it could be happening now. God is acting in mysterious ways. Maybe it’s better that is is toppled by his people. We better see who they really are than have a fake “moderate” who is more dangerous than the overt extremists.
If we can’t persuade that it was not us attacking the hospital, Arabs will be black marked if they meet US officials. As the US is blamed for helping Israel.
God I wish we had Trump. Biden is acting with agenda. Trump was just trying to take care of American interests while being fair to his allies.

Israel Update:
This doesn’t look good. UNIFIL in Lebanon are leaving. It’s the UN’s peace keeping force.
Someone must have told them to leave and it’s probably Hezbollah.
Usually when war begins the UN are told to leave.
I am not sure that Hezbollah will be able to hold off now that there is rage about the Gazan Hospital.
I am also afraid to see executions of hostages.
On Hezbollah’s Tweeter page they replaced their symbol to red. Signifies the need for revenge.
Bibi talked with Biden about the hospital so hopefully he managed to persuade him that it was not us.
There are talks in the US about a possible involvement of the military if Iran enters the war.
As much as I dislike Biden he did get some religious education and he may wake up and help in case
our actual existence is at stake.
In Yom Kipur war when we almost lost, Nixon had a vision from his education when his mom
told him that “if the day comes and he needs to save the Jewish state he must do so”.
He then had massive shipments of munition at a critical time when some of his advisors and Defense people opposed.
