I think I will put this here. Was watching/listening to some of my favorite anti-war songs from my youth today. I was a kid during Vietnam and the songs didn’t resonate with me like they do now. We live in scary times of our own f_tard politicians making. Especially for me, since I have skin in the game with a son serving. I was so grateful for the 4 years of peace that Trump brought and now look at how that has all been undone.
This one got to me. This song is a cover performed by kids from a music school (with a little help on guitar). It is absolutely fantastic. The backup singer has some pipes that nearly brought tears to my eyes.
I’m not usually one to share music, as it is not my area of expertise by a long shot. But this is my favourite war song.

I am not sure how widely known this song is, but it’s worth listening to if you don’t already know it. And this band, Redgum, have a few other good songs, too.
It reminds me of a poem I learnt in school, which I can’t remember too much now. But we saw a video of the author being interviewed. He said that so many people glorify war, but there’s nothing so wonderful about a teenager in a foxhole crying for his mum. – but of course, he expressed it a lot better than my attempt here.

It is a good song. It reminds people of the truth of the real costs of war. We should never forget those who gave their lives fighting to defend their country, or for good causes.
In WW1 about 8 million soldiers died of wounds or disease, about 13 million civilians died. It was called .The war to end all wars.’ The a loon called Adolph Hitler came along. Simmering with hatred and pomposity he took power.
Then WW2 comes along and the death toll is horrific, as we all know. ‘The famous Few’ the incredibly brave young men , only about 3,000, that defended Britain from the Nazis ( or ‘the Jerries’ as Brits called them) had a life expectancy of 4 weeks!
The average age of a UK Battle of Britain pilot was 20-years-old. The age range of the pilots varied from 18 to over 30.
The average life expectancy of a spitfire pilot during the Battle of Britain was an astonishing four weeks. During the battle, 544 British RAF pilots died.
Around 20 per cent of pilots (574) were from either allied, occupied European, neutral or ‘Dominion’ countries. According to the RAF, 141 pilots were Polish and 87 Czech.
During that battle, 2,600 German pilots lost their lives.
God was with us. I have no doubt at all He is with the Israeli people.
The punishing Treaty of Versailles didn’t help. It was designed to crush Germany into oblivion. Which it almost did, and gave Hitler the opportunity he needed and wanted to rise to the
evil heights he did.
I think it can be argued that in the shortsighted zeal of the victorious to be sure that WWI was the War to End all Wars, they laid much of the groundwork for the horrors which followed.

Israel Update:
-bibi is on the phone with Biden the 5th time. Who knows why?
-The US will send another large carrier.
-Lots of talks about “a significant ground invasion”. Some senior officers in the IDF told The NY Times that there will be tens of thousands of soldiers. Something doesn’t make sense. Last time that the IDF came with statements of what they plan in a war time it turned out to be a false misdirector to the enemy. Maybe it’s just a scare technique.
-Massive pro Hamas demonstration in London. What happens when you let barbarians in your country. Yes anyone supporting Hamas to a degree that they will attend a demonstration is a barbarian.
-In France they prohibited pro Palestinian demonstrations at this time.
-IDF message to Gazans. We were generous, now it’s time”.
-Israeli attack on airport in Haleb Syria. The airport is neutralized. Probably used to ship weapons from Iran to Lebanon.
-Biden blames Hamas for using families as human shields.
-Hamas is delaying the escape of Gazans. I don’t know how serious is the delay.
-Hamas leader meets Foreign Minister of Iran in Quatar.
-IDF Speaker: “Hamas claims we attacked Gazan lines of vehicles. Its a lie.”
-IDF release a video of the assassination of the commander who led the terror attack in one of the zones. This is not the same one as I said yesterday. It’s lower than the other yet was leading a force. His name is Bilal El Kara and there is a mention of which unit he was from.
-IDF says they assassinated the commander of the rockets in the North Gaza of the Islamic Jihad terror group.
-Lots of “interceptors fired at unknown or suspicious object in the north” . Quite a few of such reports in the past few days. I suspect the Hezbollah is trying to create some confusion and disbelief in the seriousness of what is coming.
-Gaza saying 300 died in the past day. 800 injured. They say mostly women and children. I doubt it.
– Russia is asking to vote in the UN to force a cease fire. Russia has been aligning themselves with the Hamas. Note: All the weapons of our enemies in all the wars was Russian weapons. Putin used to be friendly with Israel and since his war he is hostile.
-I watched an interview with a very serious ex-general and he explained that from the US perspective they tried to create a block of nations against the alliance of Iran, Russia, China by uniting Israel with the West and Saudi Arabia and other Sunni muslim countries. So this attack is a mess up of the plan because Saudi is out for now.
-IDF attacks 100 targets overnight.
-Hamas says Israel killed 3 of their people who crossed the Lebanon border.
-State Department of the US: At Least 29 Americans murdered,
-IDF eliminate a few terrorists who came out of a tunnel in Gaza by the border.
-US Defense Minister to his Israeli counterpart. : Israel must give a solution to the humanitarian situation in Gaza. I have to make a note. In the last round of war in Gaza the US (Obama) pressured Israel to do an early cease fire. Hamas took advantage and did an ambush using the cease fire and we had the worst deadliest day of the war. . Lost lots of soldiers in an exploding house and had two soldiers kidnapped into a tunnel in that house and later we confirmed they died and we still don’t have their bodies back. They kidnapped the bodies.
In 1973 at the deadly Yom Kippur war we finally surrounded the Egyptians and were about to wipe them out. Kissinger then pressured Israel to do a cease fire and end the war and let them go. Just saying.
-Biden talks with Abu Maazen. The leader of Palestinians in the West Bank. Note: Could be an attempt to make him help with the hostage situation or hopefully not an attempt to make him take over Gaza the day after the war. The man is a corrupt snake who pays salaries to terrorists who are in Israeli jails and families of deceased terrorists. He is a Holocaust denier and he could put extreme international pressure on Israel to make concessions and allow Palestinian State. We can’t give them a state when they don’t show intention to co-exist.
-Videos of furious IDF soldiers are surfacing. Just saw one with two soldiers one with a cigaret walking two arrested terrorists by the necks like animals and he is saying “Israel is alive and it’s only the beginning. ”
-One of the most known Israeli Mob gangsters is filmed with a truck full of goods giving it to soldiers at the south. Who would ever think?
-I see some groups organizing on social media to “treat the Nazies”. We have a problem with local Arabs that some of them are posting support for Hamas and images of dead or tortured Israelis. In the last round in Gaza some Arab Israelis lynched some jews and sent them to hospitals some with damage for s lifetime. There were hundreds in some mixed Arab Jewish cities. So while the government is not up to protecting everyone everywhere you get people organizing.
-The commanding officer of the Duvdevan Special Forces unit Colonel D who lost an eye in Gaza in the past arrived with a unit to the terror zone. They fought 60 straight hours. Killed tens of terrorists and saved many lives. They are now preparing to enter Gaza. It’s an undercover counter terror unit. At the end he lost 5 soldiers and got informed he has a new daughter.
-As I said lots of furious videos of Israeli soldiers. Just saw one that is loading the magazines with bullets after he dips it in pigs oil. Terrorists believe that pigs oil is bad and will prevent a muslim from entering heaven. He is saying we are coming for you. Furious.
-Channel 14 of the TV has exposed that the IDF is about to experiment in real life the Iron Beam system. This is a lot sooner than expected. It’s the first in the world laser defense system that can take down rockets and missiles and drones at a cost of $3 per interception. Iron dome is about $50,000 to $70,000 per interception. This is tie breaking system that case take down many rickets very fast. A truly a world changing Science Fiction system that will one day will also be offensive.
-Netanyahu visits the south and witness the horrors and talks with the soldiers.
-The German Chancellor is bringing in legislation: Anyone who is glorifying the crimes of Hamas will be imprisoned. Anyone Using Hamas symbols will go to jail. Anyone justifying murder and incites will go to prison. Burning Israeli flags is also a criminal offense now, Supporting terror organizations like Hamas is now a crime. It’s a big deal because Germany have taken so many Muslims in. Israelis are saying “Why don’t we have such laws?”
-Border Police used to get hit with very violent rioters who would stone them and fire fireworks at them etc… They were always what you call badass but were under a strong lease. I see now videos that the gloves are off. Very egressive treatments to whoever mess with them. Overall there is a recognition that Israel was too soft with violence and hatred.
-A superstar social media leader in Gaza that I saw waving with ammunition and cheering the murders was assassinated. No more incitement and it looked like he himself was a terrorist.
-A rumor that the invasion is delayed due to weather conditions.
-Blinken is about to meet today the Saudi Prince.
-Religious people are talking about demonic activity in the world and war on the spiritual level not just physical.
– A large pro Hamas demonstration in Auckland New Zealand. There was a wide spread of the barbarians all over the world. Some don’t understand what they have. England, Belgium , France , Sweden, Ireland, may have serious problems with immigrants that would not assimilate and inline to violence and terrorism. I am not a hater of muslims generally but they do have a high percentage of antisemitism and terrorism compare to other groups. And the religious ones are intentionally spreading to dominate the Globe. It’s a religious duty. It has a muslim term that means spreading islam globally by immigration.
-South Africa president appears to a pro Hamas demonstration with the Palestinian scarf and say they support Gaza.
-Ilan Omar the House Representative is posting image of Hamas propaganda of dead Palestinians children.
-Al Jazeera the Quatari Propaganda channel is posting the image of a body of burned Israeli baby and are claiming that it is a dog. Shame.
-Major explosion on Gaza road kills 70 people. BBC starts the propaganda. Experts confirm it was not from the air but explosive that Hamas had in a vehicle.

I do agree with you that travelling these days as viewed by most Americans is not the easy, carefree, exercise it once was.
I believe it is not hyperbole to say that the world most would choose to visit (Europe) is on fire.
And should one seek to embark on such a holiday it is advisable to avail oneself of all which is going on in the countries where one intends to go.
Alas and alack, most do not.
An example…
I read one woman’s post on another site that she has been advised by her travel agency that her trip to Egypt and the Holy Land may be in jeopardy, that as things played out the agency would advise her.
Her response to that was, well, she was not going until November (a mere two weeks away) and things “might calm down by then”.
Oh my giddy aunt!!!!!
So as a seasoned traveler myself, if I were still traveling, I would do as I always have done…plan for the worst case scenario…and make contingency plans as necessary, to the best of my ability.
However, there are occasions when even those ” just in case” plans can fall apart. Then, I would phone a US Embassy for information which would help me get home. That’s one of the purposes of an embassy in a foreign country. And you bet your boots I would avail myself of the services they should provide for times like that, and services my tax dollars pay for.

However, I do think we, from habit perhaps, take for granted certain considerations and courtesies., because of the way things were for so long, when they were ‘normal’.
We expected a ‘vaccine’ to actually protect us not kill us.
We expected the fairness would be taken seriously in court cases.
We thought doctors and hospital staff would always care for us and tell us the truth.
We actually thought that most politicians ‘meant well.’ or were misunderstood.
We thought the FBI were the good guys, we even had movies and a tv series honoring them.
We thought borders were necessary to have a country to live in to be proud of, and to be separate from other nations, also to keep the bad guys out and the drugs out.
We were shocked to find out how the election results are usually fixed and the so called winners of elections often are crooks.
It takes a bit of getting used to, all this craziness, and how it is spread all over the Western world.
And a little bunch of crackpots hiding in the Swiss Alps wearing silly star trek uniforms and telling us we should be happy to own nothing and eat bugs, tell the world what to do. And many very dim heads of state follow their orders, while they are trying to eradicate us from the face of the earth. Yes it is hard to believe that things have changed so much in a relatively short time.
Yes indeed…and now we’ve been completely disabuse of those fairy tales. Or a significant number of us have.

In my freshman year at the University of Texas in 1968, I had what ill call a hippy dippy English TA…long hair, slovenly, you’ll remember.
Anyway the Beatles Revolver album had just come out. A couple of our long classes were spent listening into it in its entirety, while he stood at a chalk board and wrote his interpretation of what the lyrics meant.
I was just a little ole gal from Lubbock who wasn’t prepared for life in a big university during the horrid days of the Vietnam war and the protests and the smell of Mary Jane which wafted through the campus and on the main street (we called it the Drag) in front of the campus. I didn’t know what to make of an English class like that.
At any rate, it seems Garrison’s and my paths crossed at UT, though we didn’t know it until all these decades later. Small world, no?
My only brush with “University” as a Seventh grader in 1968 … was at UC Berkeley … more accurately Bezerkeley. The street people … hippie vendors lining Telegraph Ave. selling roach clips and macrame’ belts were a sight to behold … and made for a great Day Tripper. Later … in 1969 all hell broke loose when The Peoples Park Riots resulted in the police shooting and killing a student.

The disturbance in the eastern Pacific will become hurricane Tammy. It appears at this time it is likely to threaten the Leward islands in the eastern Caribbean in about a week and could possibly threaten Puerto Rico then recurve back into the Atlantic staying well off the US coast. Once again those in Bermuda will have to be paying close attention to the track.
It is looking more and more like we will see at least some flurries before Thanksgiving at my central Indiana home and those to the north of us will see considerably more. Meanwhile out west it is looking like it will be another great ski season all along the Rocky mountain range. Already snow in the ground up in the northern plains states. New England should also have a pretty good ski season also.

I remember hearing some years ago about a survey they did in Germany with young people. They were asking about Germany and the Holocaust.

Realistically, it was not possible that so many people had family in this role, yet this is what so many believed.

-Iran is warning that if the war expands the US will also have casualties.
-Israel’s Defense Minister visiting the Gaza area : “We will get to every tunnel, and every Hamas operative. Until they are not wiped out the mission is incomplete.”
-5 shoulder missiles are shot at the IDF in the north in the past day. No casualties to the IDF. Note: It looks like Hamas was coordinated with Hezbollah and expected them to join the war. They had meetings days before the attack. Looks like Hizbollah’s leader got “cold feet” since the Americans came in with the carriers and ships. They are trying to show that they are helping the effort but they are not really flaming the border and go to a full war. It could also change in seconds. Stay tuned.
-A known Israeli media personality is publishing a surgery that shows 78% Americans support the support that Biden gives Israel and many think there should be more.
-This has never been seen. Israel’s police is fighting incitement. 30 Arab Israelis in the north are arrested for taking Hamas side and inciting and hate all in a time of war.
Forgive me, David. I knew of course that there was a large contingent of Arabs in Israel. But my view was that while they and Jews lived in relative peace, it seemed it would be only a matter of time before what you describe started happening. I’ve always felt an unease, expecting that day would come. I am so sorry this is happening.
In the last couple of years since the government changed there is a push by Interior Minister to for a huge civilian force to protect against internal Arab revolt.
It didn’t happen yet and there was opposition to it because he is very hated by the left and don’t want him to succeed in anything.
It will now be pushed faster.

Young people who join the military at the age of 18 are allowed to join the Border Police and in recent years more and more people who want to be on the front lines of confrontation with Palestinian violence are joining.

So … back in the late 70’s I wander into Rasputin’s Records on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley … a wildly radical record store at the time … and they’re playing this decidedly un-radical music I’d never heard … Ian Matthews and his new lp at the time Go for Broke … I was impressed enough to buy the lp on the spot. I have loved and admired Iain Matthews vocals ever since (he rediscovered the ethnic spelling of his name 🤦♂️🤷🏼♂️)

Thanks and all gratitude to Sundance, I set to work fortifying our positions years ago. Got a 7 cu foot deep freeze for two of us and bought things we needed to keep us when all SHTF.
This weekend, we practiced rotating our stock and took inventory of things in the pantry and freezer that were a bit aged. I never had exceeded the expiration date for a canned goods before, but I have now. I’m not sorry at all, because all was purchased during a time when their prices were significantly lower.
I sourced local vegetable growers and meat producers and found deals that still keep us fortified.
Today, I have processed lamb chops that were purchased in bulk at 50% off that have been stored for 2 years in our freezer. They are still in excellent shape. Making lamb and vegetable stew in the crock pot to serve with sliced tomatoes and tomato basil bread.
It is hard to even find what we sourced those two short years ago. Meat departments are shrinking in the stores and vegetables are not near the freshness and quality they were. I have returned to appreciating canned goods and they don’t taste half bad. You can rinse them to lower their sodium impact by draining off their canning juices and rinsing before heating and serving.
WE ARE GOING TO SURVIVE THIS, TREEPERS, AS GOD IS MY WITNESS!!!

I’ve seen comments from Iranians in the past (not in relation to the current situation) that they are anti Palestinians, because the Iranian government spends all their money on terror instead of local issues.
I’ve also found that when someone says they are Persian rather than Iranian, they are generally against the current regime. But I can only say this is from what I have seen, and I don’t know if it’s standard.
Also, we have had some nice pro Israel rallies in Australia. Definitely in Sydney, because I saw that online. It included the state premier. And maybe the federal opposition leader.

In view of a lot of fear mongering and an argument with an American Facebook “Friend” who was blaming Israel for bringing a World War 3, I decided to look at it objectively and answer. Unlike previous reports from Israel this here is an opinion.
In 1973 the Yom Kipur war the USSR had assets in the area in Arab countries and in the sea and the US had also ships and assets.
There was a balance of power between the US and the USSR and a lot of nukes. So at that time Ward War could happen.
In World War 2 Germany had enough power and willingness to overcome many countries. So you get a balance of opposing nations.

In present time Russia is exhausted. Lost many troops and will not want and can’t expand it’s war to long distance away from home. They have no interest in conquering Israel and no hostility towards Israel. The Russian forces in Syria are small and if needed they could be wiped out in a couple of hours.
While one should never discount the power of an enemy, Iran fought against Iraq for over a decade and no one won. The US came in and in a week had the Iraqi army demolished. So what does it tell about Iran who couldn’t win against Iraq?
So the worst situation with Israel would be that it is attacked from the North by Hisbullah , West Bank, Gaza, and Iran that is far away.
The worst that could happen is that Israel is losing and is either use a nuke or the US goes to war against Iran. Putin will stay away. He is exhausted.
China have no presence. There may be some Arab nations sending troops to help other arabs but that is nothing new.
So I don’t see a World War 3. Even if Iran has a nuke and there is an exchange of nuclear war with Israel it is still not a World War 3.
For Israel it doesn’t matter. Every war is a “World War”. For the mother who sent her son to war it is all nuclear.

My wife and I always liked Suzanne Sommers. While she is famous for playing a dizzy attractive blonde on “3’s Company,” she was a very impressive woman in real life. She fought hard against breast cancer off and on for most of her life and in every possible way. She was also a woman that fought for justified women’s rights (equal pay for EQUAL work) but also maintained a wise, fair common sense approach to life and gender relations.
Suzanne was a kind and caring human being who died at home this morning at 76. (GP posted this 2018 interview)
