It is my nature to be skeptical of all things, especially in these days, and in this world of lie – so when something doesn’t “fit”, my little skeptical neurons begin to fire. Hamas and its backers, supporters must have known what the Israeli response would be. Ask yourself, what is their game?? We know that they are by now pretty adept at tunneling and bunkers. Would it be a stretch to imagine that knowing an Israeli ground operation would follow, that these tunnels and bunker complexes could be packed with high explosive – 6 billion dollars worth curtsy the US government can buy a sc#1T load of boom. A large Israeli force operating above ground would and could end up a great big hole in the ground. I sincerely hope Israel has the capacity to “see” and determine just where these tunnels/bunkers are located. A sizeable underground explosion and resultant casualties/loss of equipment (tanks etc) would be a major blow, and delicious “victory” for your enemy. I would move my ground units with extreme caution and awareness of what could possible be underneath.
Interesting tactical thought. Think of tunnels (as you are hypothesizing) as minefields. The trick then is finding/clearing a safe path. The honeytrap aspect you are thinking of seems more probable as an intended deterrent for spec ops forces tasked to rescue hostages.
Strategically, I’m still stuck on the barbarism aspect of Hamas’ crimes. I understand the psychopath aspect of this. Nevertheless, it’s apparent one angle of this attack was to stimulate much broader overt action among other muslim gov’ts and populations. The shere brutality and immorality of Hamas’ actions doesn’t compute in that context. It suggests that the financiers and countries who funded/assisted in the planning and logistics do not exercise complete control over their terrorist tools. An exploitable vulnerability.
That’s an excellent point, phillip. There is always, always the possibility, nay probability, that these cancerous funders of terrorism such as we’ve seen will find they aren’t in as much control over these rabid creatures as they believe they are.

I understand your suspicions and I have already went over the two aspects that you mentioned thoroughly. The “why” for this apparent suicide mission of Hamas and the trap that is waiting in Gaza. For my respect to you I will repeat my answers and explanation.
1. Why would they do this atrocity if they knew there will be a painful response?
a. Islamic terrorist don’t think like westerners. And that is the reason Israeli Intelligence predicted that they are deterred and nothing will happen. . The important things in your life are probably “health, life, family, prosperity, peace, etc…”.
For them it’s completely different. In some cases opposite to the above. In fact death is their highest duty and privilege as a means to go to heaven.
Peace is a no mention at all. Honor is a big one and they will kill their own family if they consider an action not honorable. And Israel humiliated and took their land in their opinion. They are also very brainwashed both religiously and otherwise. The temptation of having a group of few thousand youngsters by their border was great.
The biggest dream was to destroy Israel and Israel showed weakness with weekly mass protests and division and many reserve soldiers announced they will no longer volunteer to their reserve duty.
‘Israel seemed to be weak this is also perceived as an opportunity. And also this is an opportunity to destroy the peace negotiations of Saudi Arabia with Israel. And the Saudies did suspend peace for now.
I explained why in another post but it was predictable. They can’t lead the Muslim world while Israel is bombing their Palestinian brothers and they are talking to Israelis.
Also they thought that if Israel gave 1100 palestian killers for one solider in an exchange in the past then now Israel will be completely paralyzed.
2. Now about the trap. Everyone in Israel knows there will be traps and cost to enter Gaza deep. There were traps in past confrontations with many many exploding buildings. In one confrontation I remember every few houses was wired. Israel knew how to deal with it mostly but there were a couple of misses that cost us dearly. Also IEDs (explosives under the roads) , trigger wired in doors and roads, terrorists coming out and back to tunnels. RPGs (shoulder anti tank missiles), snipers and ambushes.
Because we have been through it and suffered we developed means that no one in the world has:
In the last large operation in Jenin (West Bank city) we had D9 bulldozers grind the roads before anyone was using the roads. Because there were booby trapped roads.
Israel developed the “Walk through Walls” doctrine. Soldiers wouldn’t wall in the streets and get sniper fire. They would use small explosives and make holes in buildings and go from building to building. This is slow motion.
Entering the buildings is also dangerous because the building could be wired and collapse on you. Typically a sniffing dog will enter first.
Sometimes small drone and even robots. Robots also available specially for tunnels.
Experienced soldiers also know to detect wires of traps.
As to tunnels Israel developed a confidential technology to detect and explode tunnels. In the past major confrontation in Gaza there was a deceptive trick done to cause as many Hamas to go into tunnels and then Israel blew up the tunnels from the air.
Israel is also the most advanced in the world in coordination between ground and air. If there is resistance no one is trying to be a hero. Simply calling in helicopters or jets and taking down the building.
Israel also have systems that automatically detect and explode incoming anti tank rockets.
With all of the above it is still going to be costly because they planned it all.
Therefore you see massive bombardment that will weaken the defenses.
The best way to avoid casualties is something that I doubt they will do but the Russians did it in Syria in fighting ISIS. They simply flattened the whole city where ISIS was present.
The biggest challenge is that there are some 150-200 hostages in the tunnels and I don’t know how they will deal with it.
The other option is to surrender and exchange them which I doubt we will do this time.
Just so you know this attack is about 10 times 9/11 if you consider the size of Israeli population compare to the US. It’s about 40 times smaller than the US so you can compare it.

David: My feeling is that unless Israel’s goal is to advance into Gaza, hold territory, and never give it back, Israel should not move. For me, this was the lesson of the 2006 war in Lebanon. The IDF “went in” without a clear objective (true, the situation was urgent and unclear) and then, unfortunately, left all of Hezbollah’s territory in the hands of Hezbollah, rather than clearing and maintaining a new buffer zone.
If the IDF goes into Gaza from the north, the IDF should plan to take and hold territory.
As for tunnel-clearing before an IDF ground operation, I have two suggestions for the IAF: Thermobaric bombs and ground-penetrating bunker busters. Taking down buildings is not enough.
We have the technology to eliminate the tunnels. The only issue is the hostages in there.
It’s a different situation than Lebanon. There is a unification under the intention to eliminate Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Initial entry is not simple but is much easier than staying there. See Afghanistan and Iraq. The first week was not the problem.
This is the reality of war, for Israel an existential one…just as WWII was for the whole world.
For Israel there should be no quarter given even as various bodies insist you give the advantage to those who want to obliterate Israel from the face of the earth for the sake of the “fairness” or “compassion” your country will never receive from those who demand it from you.

We don’t know now as they don’t have elections. The majority a couple of years ago wanted Marwan Barguati to be the leader. This is a convicted terrorist with multiple life sentences.
The only way to have some sort of future with those people is to somehow create a situation that their education system is changing and a new generation arise. Also incitement should lead to expulsion or long jail time. Israel Supreme Court is liberal activist and would not permit it.

Air traffic controllers keep airplanes in the sky 5 miles and 1,000 feet in elevation apart.
We learned lots in the series I mentioned above.
The 911 of the sky was especially amazing and the difference in tensile strength between carbon fiber and aluminum. Then there is the protection against lightening strikes which an airplane will go through one strike every year of its time in service.

I highly recommend it.
We only saw the first part of the series as they broke it down into 1 hour segments, but now it is on kiddo’s Christmas list.
Warning, if you want to purchase a PBS series… going to the shopPBS website is really, really expensive. The same series are on Amazon at greatly reduced prices. Poldark for $160 at PBS whereas it is around $60 on Amazon for the series set.
Though I, for one, do want to support masterpiece theater back in the days of not terribly offensive television (Victoria, Poldark, Mercy Street, Downton Abbey, etc…) we have a restrictive budget.
I don’t feel so bad paying less at Amazon with the influx of propaganda being spewed now, which has ruined PBS as a purveyor of British television in my eyes, so much so that I no longer give interest to them. Sadly, we loved some of their televised concerts (Bocelli, Bee Gees, Carole King.. )

Did anyone else have experiences like these ……perhaps to a hopefully much less degree?
Little Drummer boy is like water boarding torture to me. My handicapped brother played it over and over and over again when I was a teen. Billy Joel and Bing Crosby have the same effect. Gilligan’s Island reruns were another repetitive torture mode and that theme song is like nails on a chalk board to me.
I realize this is an unreasonable reaction not shared by anyone else except perhaps my sister. I “got it” when the news described the Vietnamese torturing prisoners during roughly the same time frame.
Looking back its funny but I still react to those same stimuli so many years later.
If I had a point to the post above it’s simply that even a good thing if repeated often enough becomes a drag and repeated over a long enough period becomes something much worse.
Have to wait for my friends to return. Never tire of them.
Would like to hang my feeder, but a bear ripped it down even tho it was 10 feet off the ground.
Only had it up for less than a week in spring, never saw a hummer.
I do see some interesting ones here @ Kroger feeding on the flowers they have for sale.
In IN, I only had Ruby throated hummers, they would go thru 32 oz of double strength sugar water in less than 3 days across the 3 feeders I had spaced out around the house eves.
Got to a point I spent way to much time making gallons of sugar water, then I moved to CO.

We are FORBIDDEN at having bird feeders of any kind.
It is one of my current tortures.
Steely Dan would be my nails on a blackboard, only because I had an employer that installed music to the hold system, and hooked it up to the paging system which the bullhorns BLASTED it in our shop in a loop every 30 minutes or so.
After about a month of this, the entire shop was ready to hang the owner from our 25 ft ceilings.
Finally removed the hold audio from the paging system.

That’s a shame. My in-laws estate was stolen by one of my wife’s brothers in law. A man who had previously been arrested and convicted of securities fraud … yet had gained the CONfidence of my MIL. Sad. Really sad. Literally everyone … my MIL’s financial advisor … me … everyone else in the family WARNED her to stay away from this man’s promise of a 20% return on her money.
How did this man CON her? He used Christ. He portrayed himself as Christ’s disciple and that Christ could get her a 20% return. Nevermind HOW … those are details she wouldn’t understand.
Despicable… his day will come.
His day came and went … he’s passed on to his great reward. Weeping and gnashing of teeth. Many years later now … the relationship with THAT sister has nearly healed … and our families are blended again.
Remove the cancer and healing happens…
Sad how this plays out all too often. Typically at the most vulnerable of times.
Families that love, live and laugh together. Holidays, funerals, births of new life, celebrations and sorrows. Families together weather it all.
Then…steps in…the almighty $

It has taken decades, but the revulsion has lessened. I can even tolerate it once in a blur moon.

And we go through phases. Tons of one artist, then silence.
But the beauty here is nothing is forced. We can pick and choose. And still be grateful for the contribution even if we decide that today, that is not my cup of tea.

Things that I thought were torture in my childhood… now I “bless” my daughter with them now.
Every single day in my childhood, my lunch was Skippy peanut butter on white bread (no jelly), red delicious apple, and white milk. That’s it. No deviation. No creativity.
Other tortures were:
Cream Chipped Beef on Toast
Braunschweiger
Smoked Sausage and Kraut
Now, after my PTSD has passed.. I love them all and daughter loves them all.
Of course, her lunches are ridiculously gourmet and much varied.
When I moved back to Indiana at the age of 35, my Hoosier genes kicked in and I had to search out two meals that I had long since forgotten for decades. Quite literally happened the moment we crossed the state line which was so weird to me.
Breaded tenderloin sandwiches and my mothers Swiss Steak recipe. Simple beef, whole carrots, whole potatoes slow roasted in stewed tomatoes with bay leaves, salt and pepper.
It must be the change in weather patterns that cause these culinary memories/tortures to culminate.
I still will never buy Skippy peanut butter or eat a red delicious apple again.

I can relate to craving vension and gravy with scratch biscuits upon return to Virginia even though we ate venison all different ways in Colorado. My girls grew up with venison spaghetti to the point they complained if spaghetti meat sauce was made with beef.
Now Peanut Butter? Lol.
The Peter Pan, Skippy and Jiff brands all have sugar. I prefer the natural just peanuts no added sugar versions even if you have to stir them.
Anyone else put honey on a peanut butter sandwich AND let it sit long enough to get all crinkly inside from some kind of funny reaction before enjoying?
The closest thing to fresh roasted peanuts is to toast a slice of bread with peanut butter spread on top and waiting just long enough it doesn’t give extreme burns before enjoying.
As for Red Delicious Apples? I view Red Delicious apples as second only to Grimes Golden IF they are local and in season.
Apples in the supermarket aren’t real, they have been stored and shipped in nitrogen or something and don’t even give me a feeling I’m eating an apple. All the “new” varieties of apples are engineered to have some taste when submitted to the same treatment but it doesn’t work with heirloom apples. A pox on Big Ag.
Heirloom varieties in fruits and vegetables always for me and I raise my own chicken and beef.
You can buy breaded tender-loin biscuits along with just about any other version of breakfast biscuit you would like at the local convenience stores fresh baked each morning. This is the South and it has its pluses and negatives and most regional foods are one of the pluses.
No one ever traded lunch with me – ever. It sucked!!!

The asteroid is believed to be an ancient protoplanetary core, and researchers hope an up-close examination of the metal space rock could teach us more about planet formation.
I’m all for exploring space for purely scientific reasons, but it’s long past time to explore space for commercial reasons. The future of our species is in space, of hard necessity. The resources are there in vast quantities; we just need to figure out how to get them from there to here. I believe that when we can accomplish this, humanity will turn the corner and enter a new and better phase. For example, think of what the availability of limitless energy could mean for civilization, along with other tangible resources in staggering amounts. The possibilities boggle the mind.

In expanding into the cosmos, humanity will gain greater ability to preserve this globe, as well as to establish colonies.

We had a referendum in Australia today.
It was asking about giving a voice to parliament for the Aboriginal people.
We were given minimal details and told to just trust them and vote yes (like a blank cheque). But there was also a lot of other issues.
I voted no because it’s racist to separate on race. And this would also be atrocious for the Aboriginal people – keeping them as a permanent victim underclass. Also, I believe the whole thing was based on lies. Plus it was going to end up with loads of money for the inner city activists and nothing for the regional and remote Aboriginals, as always.
To win a referendum, they need a double majority, meaning a majority of people and a majority of states voting yes.
The early results look like it’s a double failure. This is great news for Australia!
Also, it looks like the New Zealand election will bring them a change of government.
The voice referendum update – more counting has been done now.
It looks like it will end up with ALL six states voting no.
And then the two territories split – no from the more Aboriginal Northern Territory, and yes from the bureaucrat filled Australian Capital Territory.
And across the country it looks like overall it’s a 60-40 split, for the no side to win.

-In a coordinated attack of Shabak (Israel main spy agency in Gaza) and IDF one of the main commanders over the terror attack was assassinated. I don’t know how but I assume from the air. His name is Ali Kadi and he is a commander of the Hamas most elite force. He was a prisoner in Israel for kidnapping and double murder and was released on the exchange for the captured Israeli soldier Golan Shalit.
Also the millitary commander of Hamas who is the mastermind of this attack was released in that exchange.about 1100 terrorists were released for one soldier. There are many Israelis murdered by them since their release and this is a lesson about terrorism. Netanyahu did that deal. I am not anti Netanyahu generally but the truth have to be told.
-IDF – combat ongoing against a Hamas unit that fired shoulder rockets at Han Yunis Gazan neighborhood close to the border.
-A rocket hits a Kibutz (village) by the border. 5 injured 2 badly.
-An agreement with Egypt to let Gazans who have foreign passports to go out of Gaza through Egypt. (I hope none has an American passport)

Pray for all who struggle to remain firm in their faith, particularly those who serve in the halls of government. Ask that they would look to the Lord to provide an escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). Be watchful, constantly on your guard.

Good morning all.
Rainy day here at my Indiana homestead.
There will be no walking Cooper in the harvested soyabean field across the road this morning. He’ll just have to be happy with the grassy back field. Though he is a Beagle, he is a lug that pulls far too hard for Sherry to walk him. If he sees or smells something he pulls that direction with enough force to pull an 8″ concrete block.
Buckley our rescue English Cocker is not coming along well. No more food aggression. He is coming to one of us to take him out when he needs to go now. Accidents by the back door have now been reduced from the rule to the ever increasingly rare exception. One little one yesterday. None the two days before.
We still have work to do concerning aggression when strangers come and socialization with other dogs. but progress is being made.

In case this might help, before we put in a doggy door, we hung a (good-sized) bell from door handle, and dogs learned to nudge it when they wanted to go out. Since it was a big enough bell, we could hear it.

No formal training as yet, but there will be in the future if we cannot resolve the issues of socialization ourselves.
He is a Loving dog and constantly shows that he is very happy to be in his new pack. But his insecurity still manifests. He must be around one of us at all times when we are here. But he does no damage in the house when we do leave for an hour or two. We have not been gone with nobody here longer than that as yet but there will come a time.
When I go to the bathroom he’ll be there outside the bathroom door when I come out waiting for me.

sure glad the food aggression has ceased. sounds like he’s doing fine! The insecurity seems like a reasonable idiosyncrasy… you never know what he went through before you adopted him.
Jimmy did a good job and handled Buckley well. Well worth the $50.00 a day we paid him when one considers the cost of a decent kennel. For a single dog Jimmy charges $35.00 a day but with two dogs and a cat and Buckley being a very active dog that need to go out about every 1 1/2 hours during the day I insisted we would pay him $50.00 a day.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

There isn’t a day which goes by that I don’t think of and miss dreadfully our Mo… and unless something untoward or permanent (please dear Lord, no🙏🏻) has happened to him, I am perplexed.
He is such a loving, giving man…one whose spiritual antenna picked up so much from everyone else in the branches and then posted, music , art and comments which were specifically designed to connect with whatever he read from his friends.
I haven’t said it outright until now….but I fear the worst, sis. Right before he failed to return (and you will remember this I know) he posted a reply to me completely unrelated to what I had written in which his grieving for his Babe was especially profound.
I knew no words I could say would help. I tried…but as I expected, they were inadequate and failed miserably.
It was shortly after that when he travelled to be with his daughter in Florida that we lost sight of him.
My feeling is that he wouldn’t just leave without a word knowing how much he is loved unless circumstances beyond his control intervened. I pray they haven’t.
Some people come into our lives briefly and make a permanent home in our hearts. He is one.
Wherever he may be, I know the good Lord has him in His sights and loving care. And we know the same is so for our other beloved friends, now absent, from our Tree.
Trusting that our Father will watch over them all. And that on a day only God knows, we will see one another once more 🙏🏻💔

I could write many poems that describe his interactions with others
here not to mention his own struggles – BUT – what good would it do
if he does not read them ???
I have absolutely NO sense he is physically ailing – as far as his grief
is concerned – that takes time – ask Garrison – for each individual
the time element is different – and the process as well.
We have no idea what happened to his daughter in FL – however
I believe they were spared from the worst – does not mean he
was not needed – so sense he has since returned home – end of
that saga – and I suspect they were grateful for his help.
When is the grape harvest at his friend’s vineyard – I wonder
Could he be helping there ? That vineyard is HUGE even from
far away where he snapped the pic !!! Busy with the harvest
the owner could us farmhands for the cattle – Grain harvest
could be a factor as well – not sure if he grew his own grain
but would make sense if he did.
So there is that – if his sorrow was more than he could handle
I hope and pray he did not return to the bottle to console
himself – but rather to God to see him through !!!
I had a long talk with God about all of this – and He
assured me he will be fine – when he removes all that
reminds him of his former love – God has a partner
waiting patiently for him – I believe what God told
me about that – when that happens – he will return
to rejoice with us !!! After all – love heals all wounds !!!
Just me thinking out loud here -OK – I be quiet now !!!

If you didn’t often commend my Spurgeon posts — Biblically faithful as they are — I would not have said anything. But I confess some of the things you write trouble me.
The Bible—the Word of God—says there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5). Bible believing Christians do not pray to angels. It is forbidden. Yet here you are approving it.
A few days ago you wrote (paraphrasing) heroic deceased Jewish soldiers have earned a place in Heaven.
Really? Heaven without saving faith in Christ? Does national valor get people into Heaven?
In view of the above I can’t help wondering, and you certainly don’t have to answer, I’m only urging you to reflect: just what do you believe? (2 Corinthians 13:5).
Besides being depicted as the dragon slayer, the name “Michael” actually means, “Who is like God (El) The archangel Michael is envisioned as “standing” to the right of the throne of God, and indeed, this angel is considered in many ways as the right hand of God. The right hand of God represents mercy and loving-kindness. So, He may well be doing the Devil a kindness here, putting him out of his misery. Luckily for him (the devil) it isn’t Michael’s counterpart on the left, the angel Gabriel – The justice or righteousness of God. Gabriel is the angel that is sent to destroy the cities of sin, Sodom and Gemorrah. Perhaps they’ll do a tag take down 🙂
I believe there is also a connection here when we read/speak of “rod” and “staff”. Significance of the rod, – discipline, correction, power (Gabriel) While the staff is commonly associated with shepherds, as they use it to guide and protect their flock. In the story of David and Goliath, David chose a sling and a staff to fight Goliath, highlighting the staff’s importance and versatility. (Michael)
Anyway, I always think of Michael when listening to this track by Steve Winwood – Angel of Mercy.

They went and go to Ivy League Schools together, they work in the same companies, industries and when the time comes, they hand power over to their related and unrelated progeny in order to maintain control over the throne. The most obvious and latest manifestation of these elites, are, of course, the Clintons and the Bush families. The same holds true, throughout our American power structure. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Those bosses are as ideologically and mentally inbred as any of the Habsburgs. Washington D.C. is ideologically, Appalachia. There is literally a “cement pond” in front of the Washington Monument that granny Pelosi can go wash her scarfs in.

Lord, I thank you and I praise you for all your blessings, and for being with me, despite my weak human sinful failings and frailties.
Lord, you endured the cross so that I, a wretched worldly sinner (with many sins of the heart and flesh), could have a forgiven heart and soul, that in a thousand years I could never earn. Lord, I thank you for that ultimate sacrifice you made on the cross for my salvation, peace of mind, and spirit. So, for the honor of your name, O Lord, I ask you, turn to me, and have mercy. Forgive my many sins, for I am alone and in deep distress without you.
