Assault is not really the best choice of word to use in either hunting or self defense. I do not consider it assault when I hunt an animal and I can not assault someone in self defense because for it to be considered self defense I would be the one being assaulted. I also do not have to use a gun in either of those scenarios.

If we let the enemy, through ignorance or intention define what something is they will also define what you can own. Assualt Rifle: hand held, magazine fed shoulder fired rifle capable of selective fire, semi automatic and automatic. Firing an INTERMIDIATE CARTRIDGE ( VERY IMPORTANT) That is a cartridge between a pistol and full battle rifle cartridge.( like M1 Garand, M14,BM59,FAL,M60 MG etc) Used on the mechanized battle field by troops in Armored personnel carriers.

Nope. An assault rifle is designed so that the holder can lay done automatic fire to cover himself as he assaults other troops.
There already were automatic pistols. They were only good for close in fighting. Lots of gangsters liked the Thompson. They can hold lots of bullets. Some even could write words with them.

The Germans, defying Hitler’s orders not to develop rifles, compromised on the bullet size. Much longer range than a pistol, but less than a rifle. And you can control it. Hitler liked it and named it the SturmGewehr, or Assault Rifle. And they can hold a good number of bullets.
You can hit targets 7 or 8 football fields away, and force defenders to take cover while attacking.
You can’t do that with single shot weapons, you can’t do that with machine pistols. And you can’t do that with few shot automatic rifles.

Anyways, you need automatic fire to use a rifle for assault. And automatic rifles are already highly restricted.
Semi-automatic weapons are single shot, not automatic. And are not assault weapons.
Nasty Congress under Clinton came up with new definitions. If it looks mean it is an assault weapon, and they banned some semi automatic rifles based on silly criteria.
That ban was undone, but they will not stop trying.

Assault rifles have the option of fully automatic fire. Thus, they already need special permitting.

Nursing facilities are vastly understaffed. I would not wish anyone who I despised to go to such a facility.
Their policies perpetuate the staffing problems in health care.
Well, the nursing facility you and I go to is very different than the one they will go to.
I think the pols are likely to get special accommodations.
However for the rest of us, staffing shortages are a reality in every county in every state.
After a hospital stay many older Americans go to a rehab facility. As people age, those who are unable to do for themselves are likely to end up in a nursing facility. It is a very sad situation when the elderly are so badly treated.

Literally every single one credits President Trumps policies or his persecution as their “aha” moment regarding deep state running our country and both parties working in tandem against the interests of Americans.
EVERY single one now identifies as MAGA.
Regardless, we’d be minus about 10 million invaders at the end of this term, that’s 10 MILLION who we’ll almost certainly never be rid of – and their anchors. Not worth it just to wake a few more people.

Actually, I do have a serious problem with the present “firearms acquisition process.” Long gone are the days when the NRA helped the Boy Scouts develop their “Rifle and Shotgun” merit badge – which I am to this day proud to have earned. The emphasis on gun safety training seems to have completely disappeared.
Several years ago, when I still lived in the Phoenix area, I remember reading about a woman who – with a loaded pistol in her night-stand – fired off a shot or two in her bedroom. The 9mm shells burst through the walls of her paper-thin house, through the walls of the paper-thin house twenty feet next door, and landed in her neighbor’s dining room. They say that they would still have had “potentially lethal force” when they broke through that second, neighbor’s wall. And the owner of the firearm said that “she had no idea.” I believe her.
Fortunately, no harm was done. But this was certainly “a shot across the bow.”
Although I am not willing to accept “state licensing” of firearms possession, I sincerely wonder where the simple emphasis on safety and training disappeared to. Because, there is no “escape key” on a firearm. And you should not “assume” that the buyer is fully informed as to what (s)he is doing, nor the true capabilities of what (s)he is buying. In this case above all others: “Never ‘assume.'”
To properly and safely “protect yourself,” you need to fully understand which firearm is truly appropriate for “your ‘use case,'” and then you must be fully trained: how to wield it, how to clean it, how to safely and properly store it. If you do not know all of these things, your new acquisition might well be a greater danger to yourself than to anyone you might contemplate using it against.
These issues concern me every day, as a “responsible gun owner.”

In addition, those who have not truly, mentally dealt with the responce of taking another life in self defence may point a gun at a perpetrator, without the actual commitment to pull the trigger.
Result often is the gun is taken from them, and used ON them, aka a “revolver colonoscopy”.
Retired Magistrate here: My training sgt. when I was a Police Officer told me never pull your weapon unless you intend to use it and if you don’t think you can kill someone with your weapon then you shouldn’t be in law enforcement. Same holds true when using your weapon in self defense; use it or lose it.
The answer is the same for every stupidity. Make the responsable person RESPONSIBLE!

I have a carry permit and went to a class where we learned about safety but didn’t handle a gun. Stupid.

As the demographics went urban, firearms became less a part of normal life. That cycle fed itself until a resurgence in popularity caused a swing back in the other direction. By then, people had grown to adulthood without ever having experienced training and learning in youth. Many never saturated their state of mind in safety practices, so they did stupid things unknowingly or just accidentally.
Best thing that could happen would be for a bottom’s up campaign for safety training, practice until competent, and ownership of firearms across the demographics, starting earliest possible. No different than teaching fire safety around stoves, or electrocution risk from devices and outlets.
