I generally try to follow the rules and not go OT when posting here but I think this time it is warranted.
As feared, it is looking like LEE may very well bring terrible flooding to New England. At this time the NHC track is deceptive, giving the impression that LEE may well head out into the open ocean. That is not likely now. As I write this LEE is only moving at 8 mph. The slower it moves the more likely the pressure patterns will be to bring the storm back towards US shores after it makes it turn to the north.
I have also mentioned that the ground in New England is likely to be saturated over the next week due to lots of precipitation.
Both of these things are looking ever more likely to come to pass.
In addition yesterday I mentioned elsewhere that LEE is growing. The wind field and the area that is getting heavy rains are expanding. I believe this is probably more important the strengthening of the storms winds and the reason why is the very scenario that the US GEFS models is now showing. This storm will weaken as it heads north.
More and more members of the spaghetti track models are shifting west and indicating LEE sideswiping the area from Providence, RI to north of Boston. GEFS now shows hurricane force winds hitting Cape Cod and heavy rains further in.
Bottom line. If I lived in a flood prone area in that area I would be buying thick Visqueen and sandbagging. If I lived on the Cape I would be making all preparations to board up and get the hell out of Dodge. Those living near the shore of the harbors and inlets along that stretch of shore should also be taking such measures.
Even if LEE down to a CAT 1 when it gets up there, there is going to be extensive flooding.
General LEE may not be carrying out a full force invasion of the North, but it is sure looking more and more like he will be carrying out a significant raid up that way.
Here are the GFS models wind and precipitation forecast for next weekend, which is the time frame this is most likely to happen. I know that many here are skeptical of weather models this far out. You have a right to be. But I picked these links from Joe Bastardi’s twitter account and Joe has consistently been concerned about this storm impacting New England even starting a week ago. And when the guy who correctly forecasted the exact landfall point of Sandy five days out talks, I listen!

Could be very bad! We went through a worst case inland storm. Saturated ground in areas with large pines and hardwoods could be a huge factor in inland suburban areas, even if the intensity weakens.
Having grown up in Florida, I’ve been through my share of hurricanes but the absolute worst damage I’ve experienced was when Fran hit central NC. Fran was down to a Cat 1 or 2 when it came well inland, after a week of constant rain had saturated the ground.
In Fran’s swath for a hundred miles, massive pines and oaks toppled like sticks in sand. Homes and cars smashed. The entire road system was blocked for a hundred miles in every direction. Emergency vehicles could not get half a block. The power grid was literally smashed – no power for weeks. Houses were crushed, roofs leaking. Even the cars that did not have a tree on them could not get out of the driveway. Food spoiled in homes and stores, all we could do is walk over downed trees to meet ice trucks and the occasionally semi that got fresh food in.
Even after a week when the main roads were clear, we were still without power and could not get cars out of the neighborhood and gas pumps were not working.
I admit to not being preparing for the toppled trees because it was forecast to be weak when it hit the Raleigh area. What I could recommend in addition to the standard storm supplies….
Chain saw with over a gallon of gas/oil for cutting branches.
Comealong or winch to move downed trees.
Small propane or natural gas generator to keep refrigerator and ice maker running.
Propane grill or campstove.
30 or 40 lbs of propane.
Large tarps for damaged roofs
A ladder for temporary roof repairs
Talk to neighbors to pool some of these resources.
Got wife’s family in South Charlotte and wondered why we never discussed Fran… they relocated from Staten Island in ’98 and understood when I saw ’96.
I pay more attention to all storms everywhere because my fellow Americans are there and they won’t get any help from the government.

Lived near Ft Bragg. That little beast.. she wasn’t large by any means hit the Cape Fear river and drove inland as cat 1 way further than your normal hurricane. We lost power for just over a day. Went out during the eye… surreal.

I’ve watched films of the work it takes to achieve demolitions of buildings. Normal, permitted, access blocked off, proper safety precautions, emptied building demolitions.
They plan long in advance based upon architectural drawings and examinations.
They expose structural members that are buried deep behind normal building stuff.
They set charges all over the place.
And they lay miles of connections to those charges that are everywhere underfoot.
It takes weeks to set up their job.
And quite some time to double check that it is set up correctly.
And it is obvious when those charges blow.
And then after all that, nobody is sure it will go as planned. Even these experts express relief when it does.
And it is even more difficult to achieve a safe demolition of a partially damaged structure.
There has been so much sheer BS about these being ‘demolition jobs’.

…someone went back into the house for a band aide for a blister on his foot, causing him to miss his train…the next one did not run on time…making him way late to the Towers…saving his life…
Or the parent who forgot the kids lunch and went back in the house for it, for it…same thing…missed the train that would have placed them in harms way at work…
There were many stories like those mentioned…
And yet so many innocent citizens perished….at the hands of who???
Our time on earth is very short, and no one knows when our last day will come, or by what reason it comes.

There has never been effective oversight of the NSA’s bulk collections programs, or indeed, intelligence agencies in general. There’s been a lot of noise made about this vaunted oversight in defense of programs revealed by leaked documents, but this is nothing more than a talking point.
At The Big Picture, a clip of Sen. John D. Rockefeller (then Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) discussing how oversight actually works has been posted. It’s from an interview given in 2007, about the time the FISA Amendments Act was being put together to replace the expiring Protect America Act. The amendments act, among other things, extended the length of warrantless surveillance and gave telecoms retroactive immunity for their participation in the NSA’s bulk collections.

It is also a way of getting rich and passing wealth to a network. The owners of these small start ups end up either receiving very valuable government contracts or getting intellectual property rights worth billions that they later can take public in an IPO.
Example – Google Earth, a DARPA technology passed to Google. The insiders get the wealth, you and I get spied on. There’s no way in for the average citizen st the ground floor. I know, because a few years back I went through every company openly featured on that InQTel website, and not a one that had met the 5 year threshold was public.

Yes, that’s a must watch IMO- Aaron learned a lot from his “friend” Nick Rockefeller when he was trying to recruit him (I think Aaron was going to run for Governor of Nevada, so the Rockefellers tried to get him in their pocket, but that was a no-go for Aaron because he was for the American people). Years prior to 9/11, Nick Rockefeller hinted to Aaron that there was going to be a “big event” after which we would see soldiers searching caves, which he laughed about (they have everything planned decades in advance, down to the narrative details)
Also worth watching is Aaron Russo’s America Freedom to Fascism, which talks about the banker takeover and the illegal income tax.

CM-TX: The unguided craft was no different than a large bouy that had worked free from its moorings. Not seaworthy as an oceangoing craft and a threat to navigation. The Coast Guard’s job is to protect life and property. They acted properly.
When I was coming of age in the workplace, it was a general opinion that government workers were not the brightest bulbs on the tree, they took jobs that paid less than the private sector because of the benefits and paid holidays/vacations. Over time, thee government jobs surpassed many of the same jobs in the private sector, and if you can get someone on the phone besides a robot when help is needed, good luck, it is usually an exercise in frustration.
Wbat is bugging me. . . .. . is. .. . the govenment getting much work at all from all the REMOTE workers? I have a family member who lives two hours from work , spend time at a vacation home in a coastal state, and goes here and there visiting family members regularly. This person cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be giving the citizens of the US who are paying that weekly check, a 40 hour week. I doubt half that even. I know Joe spend most of his time working remote, setting the example for dolessness, but having thousands of workers on their own clock is just ridiculous.

There is an orchestrated effort to shut down the ‘Ban the Jab’ movement within the GOP.
