OMG…looks like the WHOLE island is on fire.
Above is a short clip at the Front Street Lahaina seawall where people had abandoned their cars and were climbing down the boulder seawall into the ocean
It’s still blue-sky daylight and the front row of buildings hadn’t burned yet, so this is probably on the order of 5 to 6:30 pm or so
When that last row of buildings went up aflame, people would have been abandoning perches near the top of the seawall and getting in the water and struggling to breathe thru their wet shirts
Horrifying.
Nim, there were heroes there—people, regular folks, who knew what they needed to do and simply stepped in to help. They didn’t need to be directed by “first respondeds”, didn’t need to wait ’till someone told them what to do. They simply helped when and where they could. Their names will not be remembered. But their efforts, the people they touched in this time of deadly crisis will be remembered.

We’ve been busy (that’s the Royal “we”) removing a small deck which Chris installed 15 years ago and which had gone to ruin.
Not his fault. He has often commented on the terrible quality of lumber here. He designed and built a gorgeous elevated deck in our Welsh garden which will be there in pristeen condition for all time. The wood in the UK for projects like this is proper, as we say. Here? Pfffffft…..
But this one had rotted underneath and needed to go. He started by removing the hundreds of screws over a few days before it got hot. Then again over a few days the decking and then finally the weather/rain rotted support structure. He found a young lad on FB who had a truck and trailer who came out on Labour Day and hauled it all off.
And good what a blessing this 21 year old young man was. Lives not far from us, showed up when he said he would, and worked his socks off. He asked for $60, which was, we felt, too little. When we paid him more, he was so grateful.
Chris told him that he shouldn’t price his work too cheaply, and he appreciated that advice.
This morning we pressure washed the area, which abuts the place where we park in the back. So PHEW!!! That’s been our morning which started at 4 am (unintentional). Thank goodness I made blueberry muffins yesterday. Those and a cup of tea…and now it’s warming up again!! Forecast to reach 106… I am so done with this heat, G. It has really taken its toll on us both this summer. Come on October!!!!!

Just got back to the CTH, dear sister. After working out this morning had to go to HEB then looking for a new timer for one of the deer feeders. The right one I saw yesterday was whopping 50 bucks so I opted for a cheaper at $30 but it turned out it didn’t have the right connectors. So today I returned it, went looking at Walmart (nothing decent there), then at another store and I finally ended at the original place and bought the correct one. It’s all hooked up and hopefully the deer have disovered the corn already and it will start to fatten up a little. The deer that come to the house are pretty skinny. Hopefully rah is correct and we get some needed raiin. I was telling Frank yesterday that in 30 years I have never seen it so dry. ❤️

Bible commentator Matthew Henry wrote that “there are two excellent books which the great God has published for the instruction and edification of the child of men.”
The first is the book of Creation, visible every day as the order in the heavens gives glory to God. The magnitude of stars is beyond comprehension. His creatures bear complexities beyond human understanding, and the human body is so intricately and wonderfully made that complete understanding of it is still not within grasp. However, since there is sin in this world, this first book is hampered in its ability to point the way to an understanding of the Creator and what is expected of those created in His image.
Psalm 19 presents the second book of God – Scripture – as the revelation of who God is and what He expects of His children, as well as what His children can expect from Him. The Bible illuminates sin and the Savior, evil and good, the righteousness of God and His grace for the sinner. These are made clear in His law and testimony, His precepts, commandments, and rules, and His instructions to offer Him the reverence that is due Him. The earthly ministry of Jesus further unveils the mercy, grace, comfort, healing, and truth of God.
The Word of God inspires hope. Pray as you study to obey it and you will grow to love it and delight in following the Lord’s direction. Intercede now for those, especially governing officials of this nation, who have disregarded Him to discover the best Book ever. May they accept it and grow to value it more than fine gold.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

After a brief silence, the woman handed her card back to the teller, and asked, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.”
When the clerk checked the account balance, she was surprised.
She leaned down and respectfully said, “You have $300,000 in your account. The bank doesn’t have that much cash at the moment. Could you schedule a time to come back tomorrow.”
The elderly woman said, “Well, how much can I withdraw immediately?”
The teller said “Up to $3000.”
The woman said, “Please give me $3000 now.”
The teller, with a warm smile, graciously counted out $3000.
The woman put $10 in her purse; then she asked the teller to deposit $2,990 into her account.
Lesson: Be helpful – not difficult – toward older folks.
