This was inevitable. They have to get “smart” charging devices in homes. Only seems fair that a “fuel tax” and “road tax” be imposed on EVs too. Also, in theory, using EVs for grid energy storage would help but can never scale. Peak demand is during the day when the EVs are out in parking lots. When home at night there’s an excess power capacity problem on the grid. The whole thing sounds like a desperate move for a failing grid.
Possibly related are regulatory moves that will require batteries in EVs to be leased. They say it is so that empty batteries can be switched out for charged ones at “service stations”. Sounds more to me like regulatory control over freedom of movement.
Tesla makes a home battery (Powerwall I think) used to store excess power from rooftop solar panels.
Telsa does make a battery to store from solar panels….I checked on all of solar for homes….fearing electricity rates would sky rocket…..Even down south can not run AC at night even with extra battery. Can you imagine the cost of insurance when those batteries start exploding and burning houses down.
Just a somewhat plausible scenario considering the unalterable fact that electric batteries, for now, have to be charged using either nuclear power or fossil fuels:
1. All coal mines and fossil fuels sources are shut down. Meanwhile, a carbon reducing technology is discovered and put under wraps.
2. Green Energy becomes the Law of the Land despite hardship for ordinary citizens and unsustainable prices.
3. The government suddenly experiences the epiphany that fossil fuels are a must to fuel the Green Agenda. The formerly secret carbon reducing method is trotted out with much fanfare, probably patented by a well known big business mogul.
4. The government acquires the dormant coal mines and natural gas facilities for a pittance.
5. The government now controls all energy sources and miraculously solves the nation’s energy woes by using the very resources that it outlawed.
6. The American public is overjoyed and awed by American ingenuity; not realizing that the iron fist of totalitarianism just closed a little tighter.
