The meat in that breakfast looks like a dish I had in a tavern down the south coast of Victoria, Australia, near Apollo Bay and the Twelve Apostles (sea-stack cliffs in the ocean) on what they call the “Great Ocean Road”
Pulled in after a day of car touring and looking for surf, pulled out a bar stool, and ordered a beer.
Menu listed it as “mixed grill”
It had a slice of ham, couple slices of Canadian bacon, a pork chop (!!!), a couple bangers, plus steamed vegetables and potatoes of some sort.

This was 1992 and out in the hinterlands, they were just throwing off the restraints of “separate” mens and womens social venues (should say blokes and sheilas)
The tavern I was having beers and dinner at the bar had an innocuous open door. On one side was the “bar” and was for blokes, walk thru the door and you were now in the “lounge” which was mixed company and sheilas were allowed.
I sure enjoyed that ‘mixed plate’, I must say

FWIW, the term “rapture” is one English translation of the Latin Vulgate’s “rapiemur”, which is an old Latin translation of the original Greek. Some likewise assert “Jesus” was not in the Bible, due to the non-existence of the letter “J” at the time the original was written. As with most “classical” musicl, I came late to Sibelius. I was in my early 20’s, working at my campus radio station when I was assigned a classical music hour. . . Well, of course I was immediately captivated. We’d never had much music in our household so goin’ to college definitely filled some holes in my musical cultural landscape . . .
Appreciation of classical music is a process I think. It either “takes” or it doesn’t. The key in its doing so I’ve always thought is hearing that one work which captures the imagination, the ear, and the heart. That’s how it worked with me. A taste so delicious I had to have more. What a lovely assignment!!

Magic,Pavarotti started his career singing with his town’s choir. They travelled to the small Welsh town of Llangollen in the 50s and competed in the International Eisteddfod, a musical competition which attracted people from around the world, where they won the prestigious Choir of the Year. His solo operatic career began there, and we know the rest.
Fifty years after his initial appearance, he returned triumphant for the Sunday night concert, this time in a new pavilion which had been recently built and had been opened by Queen Elizabeth II (an event itself which thrilled us all…I was living there at the time).
Tickets to hear Pavarotti were pricey, as you can imagine, and sold out quickly. But there is a canal which runs through Llangollen into the stunning Welsh hills, and part of it runs behind and above that pavilion where he was singing.
On the night of the concert, we, among many many others, walked up to it and sat. It was a gorgeous evening. The design of that pavilion allowed us to hear his voice soaring from it as we enjoyed some of the most beautiful scenery one could imagine…what a perfect backdrop for an experience that will remain one of the best mental cocktails I’ve ever had.
In the beautiful Vale of Llangollen, on a midsummer’s evening, sitting on the edge of this canal, listening to a man who had returned to the place where his monumental career had begun….and was in its waning days. His swan song.
I am waxing lyrical. It really was an unexpected experience of a lifetime for me.

There are some videos around I saw maybe a year or so ago where people who had never heard opera, or classical music probably, were exposed to it to see their reaction and to see if they enjoyed it. ‘Nessun Dorma’ Pavarotti’s rendition I am fairly sure, was chosen as one of the pieces of music they listened to, for their first time. They were moved and impressed. Who would not be? It is wonderful.

For some reason last night I woke up in the middle of the night wondering about an obscure voice I hadn’t thought about in decades, so did a bit of digging and found out she’ll be 80 later this month and thought I’d share a simple 15 minutes of two former, and perhaps present, soul icons quietly celebrating a prayer and a song in a local place of worship on their 54th anniversery together this past July, quite an achievement for a couple in the music business.
Congrats to Marilyn and Billy and best wishes for many more. Gentle readers might remember the 5th Dimension. I certainly do. Music transports us and transcends time. Take care.

Good morning all. Nothing new as of yet to report on the tropical storms/hurricanes. I decided to check out how the tornado count is doing.
Inflation adjusted count is right at the 50th percentile. Or IOW after a fast start, the incidence of tornadoes has slowed down to the point where we are having an average number as of now.
I see the counter culture morons at the Burning Man festival are able to leave and in doing so they have trashed the desert leaving all kinds of stuff behind including abandoned vehicles and RVs.
They claim they leave no trace but the fact is that even if they picked up every bit of trash and got every vehicle out of there they will still have trashed a big area of that desert with the ruts they will leave behind that will dry out and harden and be there for the years until another rain comes to level the area again.
In the mean time Biden took the opportunity of presenting a CMH to a long deserving man to show his contempt for the Armed forces and what they stand for and those that are and who have served honorably.
Bigger things to worry about.
And Biden got 5 deferments, then spent the rest of his life deep in corruption. His disrespect to this fine man will be remembered I am sure.

Several years ago, a study by the Harvard Medical School looked for the keys to a good life. Among other things they found that it was important to enjoy the little things, to endure hardship with the help of friends or loved ones, and to feel life has a purpose. Well, surprise! Two thousand years ago, while concluding his letter to the church in Rome, Paul told believers to enjoy—with rejoicing—the hope you have in Jesus Christ.
He said to be patient when you face troubled times, and that is often easier with the support of members of the family of God who are going through the same thing you are, and in your patience, God will bring you victory. And prayer should be a continual, intentional, and purposeful part of your life.
Of these keys, probably the most difficult for Christ-followers in the United States will be facing affliction. Each day there are accounts of believers in this nation being persecuted due to their beliefs, losing jobs, and even being imprisoned for acting in obedience to what God has called them to do.
Today’s verse becomes even more important. Take the time to learn what God is teaching you in all three areas: hope, troubles, and prayer.
Pray for your fellow believers today who may be struggling with finding His peace in today’s world.
Ask that the Lord strengthen those in government who stand for His principles as they are tempted to wonder if their political struggles are worth it.
Pray for your pastor to remain true to the Word of God. Then rejoice. Jesus is coming soon!

School around here sometimes starts in late August but there are a few districts that don’t start until the day after Labor Day. I was out of state for the last 10 days of August and out of town yesterday so I wasn’t paying much attention to the local “news”. (not that I ever really do)
So this morning my husband told me our local school districts are “closed again because of the weather”. “Did I miss something? Because I just was outside for my morning walk and it’s another beautiful sunny day?” I replied.
I find out they have been closing the schools due to the weather. It’s too hot. Yes it has been in the high 80s, low 90s, but what else is new?
All our schools are air-conditioned and have been for several years. I taught school here for 35 years and we didn’t have air-conditioned buildings until the last 5 years before I retired. I never remember them closing because it was too hot. We used to bring our own fans for the first month of the school year.
So is this a thing now? Our local news is pretty lousy so they don’t go into depth about any local topic, except sometimes sports, so I haven’t heard yet if parents are going along with this or if they are complaining to the school board.
This is a very conservative area. I can’t believe they are putting up with this and it makes me concerned about what else they will put up with, if you know what I mean. Maybe I’m just paranoid.
Sadly it seems the climate change narrative must continue at all costs.
That was my first thought.
My second thought was they will claim they have invented a mask that can stop your CO2 from polluting the air.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Lee approaching hurricane strength. The European model ensemble precipitation forecast has shifted the path of LEE west showing a very close approach to New England. It has been a good while since New England has been hit by a major hurricane. If they are the flooding could be even more disastrous than just the rain from the hurricane alone because the forecast is for excessive rains up there in the 10 days before LEE would arrive and thus the ground would already be saturated.

Only the house can stop it but the RINO establishment A-holes will let it go. Recalling McConnell is a problem I think because the Governor is a Democrat. The Republican dominated legislature passed a bill and over rid the governor that changed it so the legislature selected the person to replace a recall. But last I heard the Governor is challenging that in court. So the question of who would be the temporary replacement until a special election is up in the air as I understand it.
This would not have been a problem if the Republican establishment had not backed a corrupt and unpopular POS during the last election for Governor.
DAY # 3 – MIDDAY PRAYER

Went and did a little grocery shopping. I picked up a few things that are for me when Sherry is gone. Grilling today. Sherry wants hotdogs. I picked up a couple of freshly made brats uncooked from under the glass for me. Broccoli and cheddar with parmesan cheese sauce and panko crumbs baked casserole for the side.
As for LEE? Still strengthening with 70 mph winds. Levi has a new and excellent video detailing the way the forecast for the track is leaning and why. Bottom line is that at this time it appears a Florida landfall is off the table while Bermuda, New England, and points north in Canada most certainly are not. Still forecasted to be a strong major hurricane.
Well … we may have lost Jimmy Buffet … but we still have ‘Pablo Cruise’ !!

I want to thank the following posters, Monticello, rah, My Magic Wand!!! My HS buddy who was a real combat Vietnam war Veteran who did a tour 68-69, no stolen valor, passed on 8/30/23. His widow called me that morning and I told her he was eligible for military funeral service. She then asked what to do. Not being military I had no idea but came here and the above Veterans quickly told me what to tell her. Yesterday he got that service. I couldn’t attend because of my own health issues but another HS buddy did and told me it was a very special moving service. They had 10 former Veterans who give him a 21 gun salute, gave her a folded flag and played taps. His widow did fine until they played taps and then she broke down. Godspeed to all who helped her out!!!
YOU helped her out. We just pointed you in the right direction. Thank you for caring. I had the honor of being involved in four military funerals. One for a veteran that was a Lt. Col on Eisenhower’s staff at SHEAF in WW II. One who was died of a heart attack doing PT on active duty. Another that for an enlisted man that died in an accident when on active duty. And one who was a veteran but died in the line of duty as a US Marshal. Three were in Massachusetts and one in New Brunswick Canada.
For every one I was on the firing squad. We used M-14s with blanks. Fully functioning ceremonial rifles kept in the Arms Room at Ft. Devens, MA for such ceremonies. No chrome or anything, just standard issue but in perfect condition. Seven men, three shots each. Practiced over and over again to do it right every time. But still things can go wrong.
These days instead of a bugle they use a trumpet to play taps. The enlisted mans service was in the dead of the winter and the ground was frozen and though there was a grave side service he would not actually be buried until the ground froze. It was well below zero and the trumpeter had one heck of a time because his saliva was freezing in the mouth piece.
The one in Canada the widow decided she did not want a grave side service but wanted the military pall bearers to take him out of the church where the service was an put his casket in the hearse. We on the firing squad were lined up on the sidewalk across from the church and fired as he was being carried out.
The church was a big stone construction with massive wooden doors and lots of steps over street level. We fired exactly as instructed. Now the blanks for the 7.62 rounds used in an M-14 are pretty loud and nobody stopped to consider that the stone front of that church would seem to amplify the sound. So when we fired the first volley a bunch of startled pigeons startled by the sound flew out from their roosts in the stone of the church crapping on the those below and the widow, who has apparently not been briefed by the officer in charge, nearly fainted. We all somehow managed to keep it together and finish the salute but it was something I will never forget.

My uncle had a full military funeral on 11/11/10 @ 11:00 am.
Unknown to me until his eulogy, he was a machinist on building the bombs that were dropped on Japan.
It was definitely an experience.
I hate to say, but around here they use a bugle with a tape recorder inside. When we buried our father it malfunctioned and he didn’t get taps. The veteran with the bugle apologized deeply and we could tell he was upset.
I made it through my husband’s funeral until they gave me the flag. He suicided and left me a 12 and a 14 yr old to finish raising. My father-in-law’s funeral was perfect except there was a bitterly cold (for Southern CA) wind at the military cemetery.
Around here the school district has a 1 1/2 hour assembly on Veteran’s Day and they have a slideshow of pictures of all veterans associated with the students and staff. It’s absolutely amazing, the students are quiet and respectful, and I cry every year (I am not much of a cryer).
