A few things to remember about “background checks”.
Who controls the information actually placed or available in the files checked? It’s pretty easy to keep certain information out of the reports on those files. Plus, National level law enforcement can actually access and change those files. Ask teachers who resisted the Shamdemic mandates in NY City trying to get jobs, as they have a FEDERAL Level RED Flag in their files thanks to the FBI.
Also, it was not long ago, that “sharing” background data between agencies was “not legal” and it was not uncommon for the background of a person’s moving INTO an area to have stuff NOT included in files for legal and privacy reasons.

This is why I’m going to eat Ramen to put my kids through a Christian school that openly teaches the importance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It’s about $1,000/mo per kid but it will hopefully help shape my kids better when they become adults.
Why aren’t more parents surrounding the school protesting?
If they still send their kids to public school, they don’t care. Every parent who speaks English knows full well what’s happening in public schools – they send their kids anyway.
Unfortunately, many cannot pay even with subsidies to go elsewhere, nor have the capacity, for a myriad of reasons, to homeschool.
They are trapped.
Flova: Schools act in loco parentis. How many parents actually vet a school, its teachers and administrators before shipping their kids to the facility? Many busy parents, particularly in a two-parent-working household or a single-parent household, rely on schools for childcare + education. I think our society has vastly forgotten WHY we’re educating our children, what material we want taught, and what values we want transmitted to them. Schools have become convenient places to house our children while we go do something else. As with many issues, convenience outweighs critical thinking about what is right and good. And as another Treeper recently commented, sacrifice is swiftly becoming a lost virtue, though so much of parenting and educating requires great sacrifice.
Another thought that’s been bouncing around in my mind is related to the values being taught. I am a Christian. I believe God put us on this planet for a reason, to know, love and serve Him. If the public school system removes that underpinning for why we learn anything, what is the ultimate purpose of education? Is it to keep students off welfare? Is it to get a participation diploma? Is it to produce workers needed for society? Is it to get a job doing something lucrative? Is it to produce protesters and unscrupulous lawyers?

Which is the answer to the persistent question “why don’t more parents home school or send their children elsewhere?”
In a tight budget household, their “school” portion has already been eaten up by the local public school, whether they send their child there or not
Only more affluent households are affluent to pay for a child’s schooling twice – once to the local public school and a second time to a more acceptable school
And homeschooling is only feasible for a two-parent household where one spouse stays home
I understand that Macron in France has banned homeschooling.
My information may be wrong, but IMO governments will attempt this going forward.
We just talked to our elder son about this very issue.
We are insistent that his two and our other two be homeschooled, or at least not be subject to the public school system.

Before attempting an outright ban … there is an “administrative” action the State can attempt.
Withhold “certification” and essentially declare kids graduating from Home Schools do NOT have diplomas and do not meet standards. Rest assured most Universities and Employers will go along with this effort.
Home schooled children have to take state exams.
They do not, in most states.
For now.
Actually, while these issues certainlyCOULD be revisited, they have all been adjudicated, over the 30+ years of the current home school movement.
And yes, they TRIED to impose certification requirements on parents, and testing requirements on children,..and failed.
While it wasn’t the “official” reason, the fact that homeschooled students did far better than public or even private schooled students on standardised admission tests, and far better at University, probably played a role in them dropping it.
Parents HAVE successfully gained access to public school FACILLITIES and events, by argueing that since they arestill paying property taxes, their children are entitled.
So, they have access to the library, and even participatein sporting events.
Respectfully, the comments here reflecta lack of appreciation for how far the homeschool movement has come, in the last30 years.

My point is that TPTB will or are trying to kill it.
The state could very well try to ban homeschoolers efforts by banning access to state exams that are ‘required’ at some point.
As a parent of 2 homeschooled children the homeschoong movement is growing and has myriad legal sources to protect parents.
The homeschooling community nationwide are as, if not more, uncompromising and willing to go to the mat, as gun rights groups.
The homeschooling moms especially are fierce about their decision to homeschool and will not back down.
At this point I do not think the regime wants to go to war with almost 6 million homeschoolers.
would this apply to church schools, too? there is one in our area in which the children are homeschooled, but meet at the church several days a week for education and fun. Im not sure, but it seems to be under the umbrella of the church. what about catholic, protestant, jewish schools, etc?
Nope. In most states homeschoolers do not need to meet any credentials or standards. They’re going to need to change laws to make that happen.
No doubt some schools and employers will, but many won’t, simply due to an established reputation for good outcomes.
All 4 homeschool families I know produce kids who test so high above their grade levels that they are consistently offered full ride scholarships to prestigious universities.
I’m told this is not at all unusual.
Both of the home schooled employees we’ve been fortunate enough to have hired were outstanding in their work ethics and willingness to work hard and learn. The quality of their work was always top notch and they advanced quickly.
Naturally there are other outcomes, and the craziness is raging, but American home schooling culture might be strong enough to stand.

I’ve seen both sides; homeschooled kids that were head and shoulders above most of the public schooled kids, and homeschooled kids that were effectively illiterate at age 12. But most were advanced.
If my district hired something like that (or taught CRT) I’d resign on the spot. But we’re good, so far. (Good state to be in.)
While we de facto homeschooled, for high school we operated under an accredited umbrella school that was created because the founder (from Germany) thought that homeschooling might be banned in the US. We were free to teach pretty much what we wanted, and the counselors helped us figure out how to get formal high school credits for what we were doing. For instance, our kids worked at a local farm and earned agricultural science credits for this work. Physical education was earned primarily through bicycling everywhere. You get the idea. I am thankful for the foresight the umbrella school’s founder had. I hope more such umbrella schools will spring up.
You don’t need this in most states.
