starts out in the Swiss Alps and moves on to Central Valley California in that Two-Larry area where one of our Treepers lives (Patty in Porterville)
about how cold air settles in depressions and you can freeze to death if you pitch camp in a valley bottom
There is a rare phenomena which occurs at high elevations in bowl shaped tree less valleys during summer which locks stagnant air in place.
The winds at elevation cause this to be very rare but it does happen and it is very noticeable and can even be dangerous.
Inversions would happen near Jackson, WY on the Idaho side. Cold air would be trapped down in the valley. One day, it was -19 F at home then we drove up to hike The Pass to have a snowboard run for “free” and found the conditions were unsafe at best as the air was 34F at the top of the mountain, leaving the snowpack extremely unstable.

Yep, it does get colder in Tulare County but not to worry. We have an early warning system in place. Where the oranges grow they are peppered with wind machines. Farmers turn them on when the temp hits 33 degrees and it’s likely to go lower.
Moving the air increases the temp slightly, enough to keep the oranges from freezing. They also turn on sprinklers under the oranges. The water releases warmth. We always know when it’s probably going to freeze at night because when they turn on the wind machines it’s like living in an airport next to jet engines running. Lots of fun.
Where I live, just south of Porterville, we are surrounded on three sides by orange groves so there’s no missing the sound of the wind machines.

The coldest temperature ever recorded on earth came when they took the temperature via satellite in a depression in Antarctica a couple years ago. It was -144 deg. F.
The coldest official temperature taken by direct measurement was -128.6 recorded at the Russian Vostok research station in Antarctica in 1983.
Since all the Antarctic research stations are located relatively close to the sea and not in the interior of east Antarctica the official temperatures do not reflect how really cold it gets in the interior of Antarctica.
Yep. Fundamental cold air drainage. I live in a little valley in my suburban enclave amidst the hellsscape of the SF Bay Area … and it is routinely 10-20 deg. colder in the winter than halfway up the hillside adjacent to me. Always go upslope to pitch your tent (or pay PG&E’s punishing tiered energy rates). Oh well … one has to buy what’s available, when it’s available in the land of NIMBYs.

I believe from all I have read in comments from Treepers on other threads of friendships lost and families irrevocably torn asunder as the result of totalitarianism vis a vis biopoison mandates and unexplainable hatred for President Trump which has divided this country that sheer evil has done its worst.
And I’ve come to believe the most terrible aspect of all this is the utter shock expressed by those who have lost one or both that those they thought they knew so well they, in fact, did not. So a grief times two.
Families are one issue. But to your beautifully expressed comment as far as friends go, what you say is true. Very few of us, I suspect have truly lifelong friends. Our roads may run parallel for a short or long while; but as all roads do, forks and veerings off occur naturally. And sometimes chasms open up which cannot be repaired.
It is then that one must decide to distance or even remove themselves from those toxic relationships for the sake of one’s own spiritual health, which is all important. To decide not to lose oneself, especially not to lose one’s essential, sustaining relationship with the Almighty.
That’s what’s at stake…too precious to hang on maintaining a withering friendship which could cost everything.
You are right, Poyeema. Sometimes we simply must let people we considered friends but who show sometimes brutally that they are not during the worst times go their own way. And yes, pray for them as they depart while we continue on the road God has mapped out for us. Trusting completely in His goodness that we are needed in somebody else’s life further along….or they are in ours. And that He always knows when that time comes. I think there is a tremendous peace which come from remembering always that He is doing better things for his than we can hope or pray for.

But He does indeed do better things for us than we can ever hope or pray for…as I’ve learned the older I get. Many times He answers our prayers in ways and by means we couldn’t possibly contemplate, knowing, as we do not, what lies ahead.

Used to be the stable one wage earner with mom at home social construct was the norm. Amongst every race. This morning I posted an interview between Dr Naomi Wolfe and Dr Jim Thorpe on the Presidential Thread. In it he explained how HHS paid bounties (I can describe onto other way…my word) to doctors to inject pregnant women which in turn caused terrible damage or death to them and the same for their new little ones, if they even arrived. And it was that interview which was the cause of my in parentheses comment…an indulgence I should have added after my other comment but didn’t.

I have a solid rule when it comes to talking politics—Never, Ever, Get Mad. This is a rule I learned when I was a debater and I’ve carried it over into my everyday life.
It is anger and the emotional damage anger can do, that kills friendships. Not allowing yourself to get angry—even in the face of deliberate provocation—will usually deter the most indignant friend, relative, or work associate who’s arguing politics with you. Just remember—when/if you find yourself in a political argument, Don’t, Get, Mad.
If you do get mad you lose the debate. That’s a good rule to remember.
And a rule I observe religiously as well, Garrison. Always have. It’s a good one 👍🏻😘

And many times people will deliberately provoke you in an attempt to get you mad so as to make mistakes in any argument or debate. Not just politics.
And exactly as you said DON’T.GET.MAD.
Sometimes it has the reverse effect and when they cannot get you mad, it makes them mad.
And they make mistakes.
I’ve always found it useful to recognize when someone is deliberately being provocative because it tells me they know they already lost the argument or debate.
They KNOW.
To me, at that point, they are being less than honest or just an outright weasel.
And that knowledge gives me room to work and further prove their arguments wrong.
Which makes them have to face that reality.
If they have integrity they will change, if they don’t, they won’t.
But they won’t want to argue again.

Apparently there is a museum there that has a document that I wish I had known about when I was there, not that I could have made it off base to see it. It is a muster roll from 1759-1760 with my sixth great grandfather’s name on it. He was in a war against the Cherokees. Ironically, I have a branch of ancestors that were Cherokee….
One of these days I’d like to go see that muster roll with my own eyes instead of just looking at a picture snagged from the internet.
It’s made all the difference in my life. And let me add … to NOT care what other people think, or say behind your back … because there’s nothing you can do to changes some peoples’s opinions. And some people you need to simply shake the dust off your feet as you move on down the road.

On further research of the Crystal River Generating complex I find that Units 1 and 2 are gone now. What is left there are coal fired units 4 & 5. Crystal River now has less than half of the generating capacity it had when my company did work there in the mid 90s.
However the second largest solar farm in the state is also located in that area as are two natural gas fired turbine units. Solar panels do not hold up well at all against hurricane force winds nor do wind turbines.
BTW Florida is the 3rd largest producer of electrical power in the US. Only California and Texas have more generating capacity.

If you go west of Palm Springs at night all you can see are the red lights atop those windmills.

As godly principles are challenged daily, pray for the Lord’s mercy upon the United States. Pray that God would woo hearts to receive His salvation and that the people of this nation would respond with repentance and follow Him.
Pray that citizens and officials throughout America’s rural lands, small towns, and large cities, and especially Washington D.C., would obtain and use good judgment.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Something I read yesterday which encapsulated what I’ve been posting on other threads in lengthier terms.
“The world is not getting worse or darker.
The veil sheltering you from ‘reality’ is lifting.”
Or as I choose to think of it, God is giving us the gift of seeing what this world would be like without Him in it.
CS Lewis said so correctly (paraphrasing I think…from memory)
There are those who say “Thy Will be done”; and there are those to whom God says, ” All right, have it your own way.”
So I do believe we are being given a merciful chance to return ourselves to Him. Yes, it is painful and horrid to finally see what was there all the time. But we have to see it and know how vile and sinful the world is, especially this country which we considered to be a force for good but is anything but, if we are to humbly prostrate ourselves as a nation, admit our terrible offenses again our Father, beg forgiveness…then pray by His unfathomable grace that we will be forgiven.
You outlined it beautifully. May our Father allow us to experience His divine forgiveness and know that His justice to those whose unspeakable crimes have destroyed so many millions is finally delivered. Amen 🙏🏻

God morning, Della. Oh how true. And we are trying. It is a terrible thing to know there are people in positions of “education” who make it clear that they hate God and worship another. It couldn’t be more plain. Worse, if worse there could be, there are too many parents of our youngest who have no knowledge of Him or His beloved Son so cannot tell their own about the love and redeeming sacrifice of Christ, our only mediator and advocate.
So yes, I love your reminder that no matter where we see a child, offering prayers for them all is the very best thing we can do for them. That He keep them unspotted from the world, the most powerful thing I could pray for any of His sweet gifts to us. Amen, dear friend…Amen.🙏🏻🕊💕

I, a tax paying member of my community, stop to talk to the local Director of the Boys & Girls Club about my teen potentially applying there for a posted job. (Asking the hours, etc.)
The “Director” says they consider the Boys & Girls Club a “real” job and me “all comin’ on up in here” that they would deal with my daughter (a minor) directly.
Real job? I would never have guessed that… based upon the eyelash extensions you could trip on.
Are we sure this is a REAL job?
You will know them by what they consider “important”.
Don’t get me wrong – I absolutely believe my daughter should go after her own job, but I was just asking a few questions as to what their needs were to see if it were a viable opportunity. It’s not viable – they start at 2 PM and she doesn’t get home until 3:30 PM from high school – but I was not impressed with the “leadership”.
I really miss professionalism and articulate speech. We as a society have gotten so lazy.

Sounds like your garden-variety municipal bureaucrat or very close to one. Agree entirely about encouraging your daughter looking for her own employment. Those experiences, even when nothing much happens, can be invaluable life experiences. I’m betting you’ll be seeing definite increases in her social skills.
This is such a perfect time for her to be learning these. Of course having a savvy mom look over her shoulder sure can’t hurt, either.

My dad came up in the Great Depression. His stories about that time showed what a rough and often dangerous time that was. His life-on-the-road life experiences, encounters with saints and criminals, were also instructive. He was an ace poker player who could play with professionals and stay in the game.
He was the most kind and loving parent a “loner” little kid like me could ask for. I learned so much from him.
His was the best ability to judge people’s character—he could spot a con or sense impending danger in an instant—I’ve ever seen. Although his dyslexic kid wasn’t good with cards, by the time I needed those skills, he’d taught me to size up good and bad situations and to keep myself out of trouble. Those are life skills I continue to use to this day.
I was just doing a little reconnaissance since I was right by there and saw a vehicle in the lot.
No big thing… moving on.
Where we live, there’s no lack of jobs… at this time job security seems most important.
It’s a good time to be young and looking for work. Even sacking groceries pays $20 per hour. 🙂

My son connects closely with me and his dad. I’ll admit it’s been hard (as a mom) to let him go, and stay out of his business. But I did!
I know it’s so difficult, Woo, to train these kids right – while the world is salivating to have them.
But God is for you – and He will be faithful to help, every step of the way!

Another reminder, as I just saw yet another leftist mayor – this time in Chicago – has decided to sue Kia and Hyundai for not making their vehicles more theft proof. Conventional wisdom says these suits are about the mayors shifting blame for the rise in car theft. While partially true, I got to thinking about it.
Why Kia and Hyundai? Very simple, when you think it through. Kia and Hyundai are two of the most affordable brands out there at the entry level. No bells and whistles, but pretty reliable transportation for “less fortunate” people. Sue the car manufacturer, cost them money. Price goes up.
Always think power and control when these leftists do something. Always.
It’s mowing day. Finished the weed whacking and now resting my leg and hydrating before starting to trim with the push mower and then get on the zero turn with a thermal cup full of beer. The cup is in the freezer. Keeps my beer cold for a good while on the mower.
Steve and Betty are mowing today also. Tod, 2nd door down to the south mowed his back field yesterday evening.
Steve and Betty have been mowing Phillis’s acre for years for free. I did it when they went on vacation or couldn’t do it for whatever reason. But once she died Steve demanded pay from her heirs. They can’t wait for the buyers to close so they don’t have to do it anymore.
BLTs and tater tots for dinner tonight. Been more than a month since I’ve had a BLT or two. The “T” will be a first nice Beef Steak tomato we have gotten from our garden. More coming. The “L” will be store bought iceberg lettuce because our leaf lettuce plants went to seed and Sherry pulled them out.
The on call guarantee drivers they have at Carter are now getting a little taste of what I did for years back when there were only 3 or 4 of us. They’re going out almost as soon as they get a break in when they first come in. There are 13 of them now.
They still aren’t getting the same treatment that we did though. Nobody is calling them before their 10 hour break is over and they aren’t doing any runs up into Canada like we used to do all the time. And they are only providing a driver to the Andersonville, TN terminal for a week at a time. Back in the day I often spent a week or even two weeks staying at the Romulus, MI terminal covering their loads. Most often covering mile runs up to Canada when the dedicated driver was on vacation.
Yea I know that sounds like a walking up hill both ways in the snow story. But it is the truth.

In case you all haven’t noticed. The projected track has now shifted north some. Big Joe says this could be the worst storm Tallahassee has seen in some time. What this also means is that it will be over land longer. Do not trust the track they show once it comes out into the Atlantic. Lots of indications it may very well loop around much tighter to the south and there is a chance it could possibly come back towards the east coast of Florida. Something very similar has happened three times before.
Keep an eye on it tonight for even quicker strengthening. A CAT IV is not out of the question by any means and the stronger it is when it comes ashore the stronger it will be for a time as it tracks over land.
Please … please … can it make its way inland to Fulton County!? Come on God! Humiliate these people … again
