But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said to them, You have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us. Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building, and hired counselors (lawyers) against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. . . Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit (Leviticus 26:18-20; Deuteronomy 28:23-24). And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground brings forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands (Joel 1:2-7; Amos 8:11-13). Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. Then spoke Haggai the LORD’s messenger in the LORD’s message to the people, saying, I am with you, says the LORD. And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God.”

There should be here no great mystery that has to be unwrapped, as to exactly what is the sense and the meaning for us today. For there is only one right way to hear and receive the word of God, that it may sprout and take root and grow up into what is made to be; and that is a good and honest heart. Let us therefore come to the light for the purpose of examining ourselves under the light; to think about honestly our own ways, so that we might take the appropriate action to set our account in order with God.

First: We are the children of the captivity: for both, those who are the natural born children of Israel, and those who are grafted into Israel by the faith of Jesus Christ; we are yet in subjection to the Times of the Gentiles, until the coming of Christ and His everlasting kingdom. Now is the Son of man delivered into the hands of sinful men, and we are not allowed to take up the sword to resist; because these things are necessary for the Scriptures to be fulfilled.

Second: He who commands from His throne in heaven, and turns the hearts and stirs up the spirits of kings to do His own will; has already provided for the building of His house, by moving king Cyrus the king of Persia to command that the house be restored to its place and built again. There is no power, but of God; and the powers that be, are ordained of God. Jeremiah the prophet spoke, saying, that after seventy years God would cause them to return to their own land, and that the house would again be built; and all the instruments of service restored, and the priests would resume again their service for the people.

Thirdly: God stirred up the hearts of His saints to answer the call, and to give themselves unto the cause of God; to let go of their lives in Babylon and Persia, and to take the difficult journey back to their own country.

Fourthly: The wicked adversaries of God and His people, are always there, and cannot help it, but to relentlessly pursue, to hinder and obstruct, to infiltrate and pervert, and to use every conceivable means to threaten and frustrate and cause the work of God to cease. They first come pretending to be friends and wanting the same things; but it is only to weaken and contaminate the assembly of the saints. When they cannot make any advances one way, they will conspire with slanders and false accusations, and bring in the law and the force of arms, to make the work to cease.

Fifthly: The church continued to work according to the LORD’s purpose, and bore up under persecution and adversity and force of law and arms, for a very long time; and were an example of suffering hardships and patient endurance; because they held their affections and treasures in heaven.

Sixth: Just like the Christian church many centuries later; at a certain point, the persecution and violence of the war being waged against them; coming from the smallest and least, to the greatest and most powerful rulers; they took a decision to withdraw from the calling and the work. For the sake of a false promise of peace and quiet from the enemy; they adopted another Jesus and another Gospel, that would rather support and encourage saving their lives and their comforts in this world; and would not risk offending the ungodly, or rebuking his sin. They took a decision to hold a new idea, that kept their true nature and doings hidden from view; by saying, The time is not come, that the house of God should be built: and their new policy rather put the responsibility on God, for some unknown future date, to do what He had in fact charged them with doing.

Seventh: After allowing plenty of time for them to realize the results of their choices, and feel the consequences of their utter impoverishment, physically and spiritually, and that God was not answering their prayers, but walking contrary to them, and making everything they did to come to nothing; in His kindness and forever faithful love, He raised up and sent to them His prophets and messengers to speak to them. So they told them the truth, and called upon them to think about their ways, and their circumstances, and judge for themselves, if it wasn’t exactly as God said. From the way the LORD speaks to His people, it is obvious that He knows, that they understand the redundancy of the question; and so He tells them simply, Go up into the mountain, bring wood, and build the house! You don’t have to think about if what I say to you is true, for you already know it: just do now what I already commanded you, and do it now; and nothing further will be mentioned. “And I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified.”

And Lastly, eighth: When the righteous are warned and rebuked and corrected, they acknowledge the truth and obey the word of the LORD as He had sent His messenger to say to them. All they who are of the truth WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, and they will repent, and get right to the work, and walking with God, doing what He says. They are no longer running every man to his own house, and his own things; but they all with one heart and one soul and with one accord, are stirred up in the Spirit of Christ, to build the house of the LORD their God.

I have been posting my hurricane stuff on the thread that Sundance posted on the subject yesterday. However I will sum up my thoughts on the subject here. .

Joe Bastardi has now come out and unequivocally stated that he believes that Idalia will be a major hurricane at landfall. If he is correct then that means a minimum of 100 mph sustained winds. Levi Cowan has talked about the potential for near shore intensification but cannot get out ahead of the NHC which still shows it as being a CAT 1 hurricane at landfall. I expect that NHC forecast to eventually change and catch up with those two excellent hurricane forecasters.

Because the NHC still forecasts Idalia to be considerably weaker than it probably will be at landfall they’re current peak storm surge graphic is probably underdone.

Storm surge is almost always the primary cause of death and destruction from a tropical cyclone. The factors that effect the amount and duration of surge are:

Windspeed. The higher the windspeed the higher the surge.

Size of the storm. The larger the wind field of the storm the longer the winds will be driving the water towards shore.

Tide state at the time of peak surge. Obviously high tide at peak surge is a bad thing and was one reason why Super Storm Sandy was so bad since it arrived during a King tide.

Topography along the coast line. All of the area where the highest surge is forecasted to be is low lying and has multiple river estuaries. Rivers allow the surge to penetrate further inland. Then combine that with the possibility of rainfall rates of 4″ an hour. Also the ocean bottom in that area drops very gradually at about 1′ every mile. None of this is good news.

Some more bad news. The largest electrical generating station in Florida is at Crystal River right along the coast. It in fact draws its water from the gulf. I worked there during multiple annual Maintenace shutdowns on units #1 and #2. I was there when the “100 year storm” came in causing flooding of the town. Even if the units are not directly damaged by this hurricane they will almost certainly have to shutdown. The reason why is that the salt spray blowing in causes shorts in the transmission yards tripping the massive breakers. That would be the very best case scenario of course. So Florida residents out of the storms path and minimally effected by the actual weather will almost certainly have to deal with loss of electrical service for at least a shot while. I repeat, that would be the best case scenario assuming no infrastructure damage at the plants or significant damage to the transmission lines. I of course suspect it will be worse than that and power outages for the area that station services will be considerably longer in duration.

I don’t know how it works now, but Unit#2 that we worked on supplied all the power for Disneyland back in the 9os when we were working there.

Well, it looks like we will be getting some of the much-needed rain I have been praying for. Sadly, it would take a hurricane to try to break the drought in my neighborhood. We are down nearly 30 inches of rainfall for the year nearest I can figure. As I posted previously I had the notion we would surely have a storm because the beauty berry bushes and the oblong green acorns went haywire a month early this year. I wish I could just get this over with. This is like waiting for Pops to get home from work after one of my friend’s pranks got me suspended from school in 6th grade.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

John, the apostle, wrote almost entirely about the love of God and love for your neighbor in his first and second letters. This is understandable, as Jesus condensed the Ten Commandments into two: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27). 

Today’s verse is taken from a letter in which Paul is writing to entreat the church at Corinth to have unity, not treating one as more important than another because of the spiritual gifts they had been given. Paul had written to the Philippians that he himself could have had his confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:3-6). 

But, here he is, dedicating an entire passage to love in a letter that calls for unity! Why? It would appear to be the characteristic that will last into eternity. You will no longer have a need for faith since it will be realized in your life in Heaven. Hope will be fulfilled in that you will see the Savior face to face. But love…love will be everlasting, you will experience a love you have never known… for God Himself is love (1 John 4:8). 

Take time today to read Paul’s chapter of love with an eye toward eternity, encouraged to live today in a right relationship with those around you and with your God. Then pray for this nation and for its public officials, some of whom speak words of division rather than words that unify. Love for your fellow man will make the difference!
