No plans for today and we did very little yesterday. We shall see what comes. I just have a cap to put on the 4×4 that my weather station is mounted on. I already stained it to match the red castle rock around the border at the base of the flag pole. Contractor had a job to finish and will get with me on Monday.
Starting to get cooler here. Forecast high today here is 82 deg. Gusty winds to come in around 14:00. Hope some relief comes for you folks down in Texas soon. For us, it looks like we’ll get an early taste of fall type weather for a time.
Buckley and Geisha got their ears cleaned yesterday. I hold while Sherry cleans. When Sherry took a trip to the store yesterday Buckley spent his time going from one window to the other that looks out on the driveway. When she pulled in I knew she was here because Buckley started whining. His pack instinct is very strong.
As for the tropics. I see that the weather channel and others finally started catching on to that depression down by the Yucatan yesterday. I first started telling you about it 5-6 days ago and said those that might be effected should start paying attention 3 days ago. I take no credit. My stuff is based on analysis from Levi and Joe with just guessing on my part. It is slowly moving and developing and now Joe is saying he believes it could be a CAT 1 or 2 when it reaches the west coast of Florida early this coming week.

Levi is much more cautious and general in his estimates of strength and point of impact so far. I think Joe has it right. Levi has to be careful in his forecasts because he works for the NHC and I think he can’t get out too far ahead of them.
TS Franklin has broken through the band of sheer and Joe thinks it will quickly develop into a Hurricane. As yet the NHC does not show it becoming a Major hurricane, but I bet it will.
Here is a short video of a ride with the Hurricane Hunters last night through TS Franklin. Man I would Love to go on one of those flights. I suspect it would be rougher than some of the tactical nap of the earth flights at 200 ft. AGL in C-130s I was on back in my Army days. Never really had a problem with air sickness though it could get a bit tough when guys around me were puking.

Morning rah! Still looking to 100 degrees today here in the Texas Hill Country. Can’t do much outside but for a couple of hours in the mornings. In a bit I’ll head to fill up the deer feeder. Got 10 bags of corn 50 lbs each. Got to lift them up 5 feet high and dump them in. I think I got enough strength back to do it but last night our youngest son decided he wanted to help. That was unexpected since after hearing a couple of excuses I stopped asking. We’ll see. Anyway, I’m going out and will text him and if he shows up, good. If he doesn’t it will be my workout for the day.

I have been doing the same on these hot days. Since my surgery I have a hernia. I don’t want to go under the knife again so I wear one of those braces when I’m going to be lifting stuff. It compresses and supports the hernia and prevents it from tearing further.

Lindburgh’s life was quite interesting.
The night before the flight I he couldn’t sleep. He ended up putting tobacco in his eyes to stay awake during the flight. His fuel calculations, written in chalk on the wooden control panel of the Spirit of St. Louis are still there.

Then of course there was the nationally covered tragedy of his sons kidnapping and death. The press and pressure from that “story of the century” drove him to go stay in Europe with his family for a time. And from that time till the end of his life he did his very best to stay out of the limelight except when pushing causes he truly believed in.
Though an avid isolationist and an admirer of Hitler’s Luftwaffe. He was taken in by the German trick of flying the same aircraft to different airfields that Lindburgh visited so as to give the impression that Germany had many more aircraft than they actually did. When he got back to the states he called up Hap Arnold and they arranged a meeting at West Point. They took a walk out to the football field to get away from the crowds and Lindburgh reported what he had seen, portraying the Luftwaffe as unbeatable.
Lindburgh was not however a Nazi sympathizer as he had been charged as being though he certainly was an antisemite.
Because of his isolationist views he resigned his commission in the US Army. But after Pearl Harbor he quickly volunteered to help in any way he could. He was sent to the Pacific to teach P-38 pilots the techniques in how to get the best range from their aircraft and while there doing that unofficially was involved in a couple of combats and it is said to have shot down one or two Japanese aircraft. The pilots loved him and all say that the techniques he taught them made a big difference. Later he did the same for pilots flying P-47s in the Pacific.
Lindburgh also was consulted on the construction of various aircraft during the war, including the B-24 plant at Willow Run.
After the war Lindburgh was still involved in aviation. “Tex” Johnston, the primary test pilot for the Boeing big jets, took Lindburgh on two test flights of the prototype that would become the 707. He described Lindburgh’s arrival. Just before engine start up a figure with overcoat and hat pulled down walked from the hanger and boarded the aircraft just before the stairs were pulled away. That was typical of the extent to which Lindburgh would go to avoid even being recognized in any setting.
rah, that makes me think of LBJs experience in WWII. After he lost election to Senate he joined up, was made Lt. Col. and sent to Hawaii as an observer. He happened to be on a plane that was shot up by Japs. Pilot managed to get damaged plane back to base. McArthur awarded LBJ the silver star (although no one else on that flight got any award.) Lbj got himself discharged and spent a lot of time talking up what a dangerous guy he was in the war even to saying the “boys called me Raider Johnson.” He spent about a week in uniform.
LBJ was the pattern for John Kerry? Who knew? Lol
Lindburgh’s victory or victories could not be officially recorded because he was classified as a non-combatant and had strict orders not to engage in combat. But teaching pilots of P-38s flying out of several of the 8 different airfields arranged around Port Morsby New Guinea to get the best range from their aircraft he would be have contact with the Japanese which had bases on the same island on the eastern side of the Owen Stanley mountain range.
It was at this stage of the war the two highest scoring US fighter pilots of WW II got their kills. Lindburgh flew with both Bong and McGuire and other aces so naturally with aggressive pilots that knew how to find the enemy got into the shooting war. His kill(s) were awarded to others.
Also the bases they were flying out of were frequently attacked by Japanese bombers.
It should be understand that the actual official kills recorded for the aces flying the P-38 are less than they actually shot down. Probably much less in the cases of highest scoring aces. This is the case in general for most aces but for those flying the P-38 at that time the gun camera of the models they flew was poorly mounted and thus vibration from firing the guns blurred the images on the film.

Using what’s available, into the Blue/White antique pot, or handmade antique Southern pottery jug, they go. Every effort, using the style above. Zero guilt for stealing food from wildlife or soil.

We’ve had lots of hummers all summer. Have two feeders up – it takes 1/2 cup sugar every day to fill them! Eatin me out of the house!
Started with one feeder, but too much fighting. Now, the male perches on his own station, and the females on theirs.
Tried to get a pic but this is as close they would let me. This is a female. They stay here till end of Sept.
Good Afternoon Miss Della! Yes mam the little guys sure do eat a lot and they sure do fuss a lot.
The cost is more than worth it to me to watch their aerobatics. Some how they always bring me a smile.
We usually take feeders down by 2nd week September here in Virginia. They start thinning out pretty quickly after Labor Day but will hang around too long if the feeders are still up.

They put their lives on the line in order to obey God.
They knew their God! He is all-knowing and sovereign. He is omnipotent, having all power in Heaven and on Earth, and because of that, the Lord could control times and seasons. Nothing happens by chance, because He is the God of time and eternity. God is the ruler of all humanity and could thus elevate whomever He chose to be king. Best of all, Daniel’s God is the all-wise God whose foolishness is wiser than the wisdom of men (1 Corinthians 1:25).
Daniel understood that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7), and those who trust in Him receive wisdom to deal with the issues of the day. It is no surprise that when King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that he couldn’t really remember, Daniel, joined by his friends in prayer to God, was the only one who could describe and interpret it (Daniel 2).
He was given the knowledge and wisdom from God.
The same can be true for you and this nation today. God is able for He is unchangeable and eternal. If you seek the Lord and resolve to obey Him, He is willing to give wisdom and understanding. His mercy and grace abound. Depend on Him and Him alone.

God had revealed to Daniel the entire political history of the world until the coming of Christ in His kingdom; to tell the king Nebuchadnezzar his dream. It is important to note, that in all the visions and dreams and visitations of angels that Daniel received; he was given understanding of all that he was shown.
Jesus told Nicodemus, “Verily I say to you, we speak that we do know, and testify what we have seen; but you receive not our witness.” People block themselves from knowing and understanding by unbelief and hardness of heart. They think that they are prudent and careful, by being suspicious; and that stubbornness and doubting is just being safe. But it is in reality completely the opposite of obedience and the faith of Jesus; and is only the proof of preferring the darkness to the light.
Jesus told the apostles, that the Holy Spirit would teach them all things, guide them into all truth, and show them things to come. He was leaving them in the world to continue His own ministry of bringing the Glad Tidings to the nations, and teaching all men to keep God’s commandments. We have no doubts of who it is who teaches us, and gives us understanding. And those who do not receive us, nor hear our words, have no power to make void, or annul what God does.
“We know that He has given us an understanding . . . ” so we can give the sense and the meaning to everyone who will hear it; AND to those who will not.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

I’m giggling to myself – as I have a PLAN and it brings JOY in what has seemed some dark days.

So you know my 17 yo daughter has the flight bug. She’s got 1.2 hours under her belt and needs 40 to 50 to achieve the first stage in a personal pilot’s license for a Cessna aircraft. Her first flight was at 16 years old.
Well, she’s going up tomorrow again at 8:00 AM at the Indianapolis Municipal Airport. She’s saved $2,000 of her own hard-earned money and is going to spend a little tomorrow.
Here is the glee-filled kicker!
We have a retired combat veteran friend who we met when we took a Huey helicopter up for my birthday in June of last year at the Indy Executive Airport. He was such a doll – in his 80’s and took a GoPro video of the event which he kindly shared with us. Imagine – flight – Huey – cargo doors OPEN – winds reaching 100 mph – and me barefoot becuase I was afraid I was going to fling my sandles all over tarnation! Imagine a war-worn 80 year old veteran man, flexing his peck muscles, and offering his arm to a terrified old Momma like me… and me taking that arm and holding on – as there was this itty bitty pin seat belt as the only thing holding us inside this crazy aircraft ride. We pitched to where we were parallel – facing the ground – with winds at 100 mph. Holy crap on a cracker! Those military folks have real cajones!!! My heroes and my heart – in memory of my father. My daughter was in Heaven here on earth! She is her fullest self – flying.
Well, Mr. Jim contacted me asking advice on our town as he might be moving here. He asked me if he could fly with Savannah if she ever needed company because he had never flown on a small personal craft before.
Well, I’m waiting to hear back from him – but he has a seat reserved on her flight tomorrow!
Squuuuueeeaaaal!!! Joy for my girl and a blessing on one of our honored war veterans, too. My joy is over the top! Let’s hope he is free to go. We will cover his flight cost as our gift to him. He will be in the hands of our youngsters (our future) tomorrow. Her flight instructor is 25 years old.
Oh my goodness… I can’t wait! We will talk further about Savannah enrolling as a student of the school there. There may also be a job available quite close that might inspire her… as a program coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club. She is terrific with kids and sporty. She is all about making sure people treat each other well and all are included and no one is left out. She might be perfect for it.
Let’s see where this goes, shall we?

That’s the plan Monti. She’s at a private airport. Private and she might just stay private.
The question is will she branch out into copters. That takes my breath away a bit more.
She’s flown up front with the pilot of a commercial copter… we both flew in cargo of a Huey with the doors open.
She actually flew the Cessna twice and this will be her third trip. That’ll take her hours up to 1.6. About half hour of prep and craft inspection… liftoff and touchdown… and 30 minutes actual fly time. She has full control of the craft for the 30 minutes up in the air about 3000 to 5000 feet. Last time, she was able to taxi in the run way using the foot peddles.
It is cooler than cool.
Each time… he teaches her and let’s her do something new.
Tomorrow, I won’t go up. She’ll be on her own and my mommy heart will stay on the ground and watch my daughter soar.
But she freaks out at driving a car… these are mysteries to me.

I turned 82 yesterday. present I like the most is a salesman sample of a cast iron wood fired “American” cook stove. I spent some time with a tiny brush and mineral oil making it shine. It has the chimney, all four lids, griddle and two extensions plus frying pan, sauce pan and tea kettle I got everything I wanted except a lemon bar.
I’ll make you a lemon bar, Merry. Gods blessings on your birthday, Sis. Sounds like an amazing gift. The giver has good taste!

lemon bars are sometimes on a shortcake crust filled with lemon custard. maybe guys don’t like them so much.

Happy birthday. I spent mine, on August 18th, cutting up trees and splitting and stacking wood. IMO as I advance in years the only good thing about another birthday is that it is probably better than the alternative.

Heehee, I am silly, cuz I was attributing a lemon bar to the cook stove, and I didnt understand the connection. Like a martini bar, or taco bar, or something that might go physically next to the cook stove.

Update on hurricane situation. Franklin is a hurricane now and the NHC finally shows they believe it will be a major. Joe Bastardi believes it will track about 150 miles west of what the NHC is showing. That puts Bermuda in the clear but makes a strike up in Canada more likely.
The invest down around the Yucatan is moving very slowly and is developing. Joe still believes it will be a CAT 1 or 2 and strike Florida. The good news is he believes it will come in right along the coast up north towards Tallahassee. This is good news because hurricanes that come in over that stretch tend to weaken quickly as they approach the coast. People along the northern west coast of the peninsula and the eastern portion of the panhandle need to be paying particular attention.
Let’s hope Joe is correct. Those further south had more than their fair share from Ian.
