Sometimes, the author knows every nuance of the translation choices in the KJV. Going back to the Greek to make his point.
And sometimes he totally ignores them to make claims that words were never used in the bible. Claims that totally rely on the translation choices used for the KJV. But the claim, true in the KJV, was not true in the Greek.
And always, always, presenting his self as learned, erudite, and right.
We rest so much on authority. The authority of the guy standing in front teaching. The authority of the words in the bible. Even arguing the Greek is trusting the authority of whatever Greek version we are relying on.
It is all rather unsettling. Like being in your first earthquake, realizing that you can’t always rely on the ground staying put under your feet. (David Koresh as an extreme example, an authority justifying everything straight out of the bible.)
But it is also unsettling seeing someone facilely jump from authority to authority in an inconsistent manner.

It doesn’t even need to be said, but Jesus, and the apostles and prophets never talked like that; but we know who did:
“Tell us by what authority You do these things; and who is it that gave You this authority?”
The way I understand it, we are to live and speak according to the Word, and glorify Jesus as living testimonies of His saving grace… strifes and doting over words tend only to doubts and contentions, and robbing people of faith, steering their attention away from the things of the Spirit and the sound doctrine of Christ, unto themselves; entirely under the banner of contradiction and causing to doubt! And we have our guidance from the Lord regarding those kind.
Titus 3:9-11 “But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. A man that is an heretic (one who separates himself, a sectarian man) after the first and second admonition reject; knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sins, being condemned of himself.”

I think a weekend of “gentle and reflective” is in order, dear Betsy. We checked to see if our campsite was available, but there’s about a 60% chance of rain and the pool is already closed there. Still another day of high heat index – so think a sweaty sauna tent. There is hiking, really fun pool with fun slides, nature, bonfires. Sigh. The kids go back to school, so the pool closes because they have no lifeguards. We won’t go after all and may have to wait until next season. Maybe later this season when the temps lower further.
Now, what to do with a teenager who quite suddenly has a bunch of time on her hands? (learn to drive…hmmmm?)

The feeder actually will take 13 bags.
They are getting quite skinny, it’s time to fatten them up. The deer don’t play the game of disappearing but the turkeys do. They will come to the feeders and eat corn all the way up to opening day and then they are gone. The turkeys must have the Texas Parks and Wildlife app to check for the start of the season. 🙂
I’ve had my share of deer accidents over the years. Living in the Hill Country you can’t avoid it. Can you believe it, they are building 2000 apartment units in Fredericksburg. Sad…

8/25/2023 – Great is your reward in heaven
Matthew 5:11-12 “Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake: rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
In view of what the Glad Tidings of Christ coming into the world means, both now for the present time, and that with its perfection in the world to come; we should understand the necessity of our place in God’s plan for man.
In the leading up to this statement, the Lord was teaching His disciples what it meant, that “the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Jesus was going about all Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, and preaching the Glad Tidings of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease among the people. He had already begun calling out those whom He would make His apostles; Andrew and Peter, James and John, Philip and Nathanael (Bartholomew). And so, as Jesus on a certain morning walked up into the hilly parts outside the town of Capernaum; His disciples followed Him, and sat down with Him, to hear more about these things, that “the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
So He begins to teach them with the Beatitudes, describing actually His own divine nature, character, and behavior, which would be in them, the mark from God, that He had saved them and called them from out of the world. These traits of having been Born From Above would stand, and be accounted for, through our interactions with men in this present evil world. The Blessings are by acting and reacting of the life of faith, with a view to the things to come.
The opposition and contradiction, the uncapability of men to comprehend and receive these things, because of the darkness that is in them, and bondage to sin which alienates them from God; these are the duties of our position, in our Job Description in the Glad Tidings: the labor and toil of bearing up under wrongs, and abiding under subjection through the adversity and persecutions we face, is our calling and service as Christ’s ambassadors and heralds of the word of God.
Just as Jesus came, not to abolish the law or the prophets, but to completely make full, to accomplish; so are we the fulfillment of that which the prophets before us, searched out and prophesied; of the grace that has come to us. We are the living evidence of what they foretold God would make in the earth, through His Anointed coming in flesh.
Using an illustration given by Paul, we understand that the time of this present life is appointed us until we come to full age, and are brought before God.
Galatians 4:1-2 “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; but is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.”
And since for now we are appointed to abide in faith, hope, and love; so we are given the earnest of the Spirit, a pledge for assurance of the good and glory to come. By this little scroll in our hand, we do hold for evidence from the King, and sealed with His Spirit in our hearts; so we walk and prove ourselves worthy to stand before the Son of man, by following in His steps.
1 Corinthians 13:9-12 “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I reasoned as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly (in a riddle); but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
Again, being made fit for the Presence of God, worthy to stand before the Son of man; can only come by making ourselves known, so to speak, to God. By coming to the light as He is in the light, for the very purpose of manifesting our real selves, the thoughts and intents of our heart, and coming clean with respect to our conscience, and all that we have done; we do so, that the Lord may know us when He sees us; because we have done all that He has commanded us, and not been hearers only.
Psalm 5:3-5 “My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I *direct (set in order, make an accounting) [my prayer] unto Thee, and will look up. For Thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with Thee. The foolish shall not stand *in Thy sight (before Thine eyes): Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”
Finally, just as Jesus began with the Spirit of the LORD upon Him (Isaiah 61:1-2), anointing Him for preaching the Glad Tidings to the meek; and being sent to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that were bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, as the debt having been satisfied; and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn . . . He will finish all that He has started, and will bring to complete perfection, all that has been in His heart when He began.
Ruth 3:18 “Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.”
This present state of the world is only temporary, and shall not continue indefinitely; but only as long as it serves God’s predetermined full term and function. God has provided for all to find mercy and be saved, in all His care for men, in all ages. He has preserved His word, and the knowledge of His Salvation; in His saints among every people, and in the true and faithful witness of His Bible, which He has made sure to give us for these last days.
Together with the witness of His grace having been wrought in His saints; God has known by name and cared for every soul ever born into the world, and has cared for them and watched over them all their lives. And having fairly allowed for every man to take his own course in life, there left remaining in him the knowledge of good and evil; by all these things will be decided in the last day, what will be the eternity of every soul of man: whether they are good, and to be saved; or whether they are bad, and to be cast away.

Luke 22:28-30 “You are they which have continued with Me in My temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as My Father has appointed unto Me; that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

When I was a kid, Dean Armstrong, Neils brother, who was an engineer for GM was a neighbor. Since those strings run in pairs, but have separate tuning knobs, are they tuned to have each pair be the same, or are intentional differences put in to ‘broaden’ the sound?
The smaller strings are all tuned to the same note as its partner string … just one octave higher. And then you get into “drop-D” tuning that is popular with many musicians, most notably Neil Young.

I took my wife to NYC in ’96 to see the 1994 Broadway revival of Showboat at the Gershwin Theater. The character “Joe” in that cast was played by Michel Bell, who had a magnificent baritone voice. When he sang “Ol’ Man River” he got a very appreciative long applause. That song as well as many other moments in that play evoke strong emotions from anyone who has experienced hardship in their lives.

While we’re on the subject of autoharps … I don’t know a single friend of mine who ever said … “hey let’s go down to the music store and strum some auto harps”. Sorry … let me put this in a way that is sure to offend someone … clutching an autoharp on stage as if it were a baby is … is … downright effeminate-looking. Playing a guitar is rather muscular and manly … but an autoharp? Really? They’re suited for elementary school music teachers … and that’s about it.
We used autoharps for worshiping the Lord at Prayer Meetings. I don’t agree that it looks effeminate; but I do agree that it looks a little strange and out of place.
Maybe because it has a certain pleasantly solemn tone, that gives the music a kind of fuller sound?
Caressing and stroking an autoharp or swinging and strumming your manly thing.
Where does that leave the drummers? Or horn players?

Thank you, Duch. She’s home from school today. With the job, Trump yesterday, the state of our union – we just stopped investing today. I worked my day job faithfully – but I’m not going to give too much more to the earth today. Just going to tend to our wounds and try to cheer the girl up.

When I was a school principal, if some idiot had done that I would have personally handed him his head.

He was not only bullying her very openly – he was reprimanded – continued to bully her and then he further taunted her when she was trying to order her meal in the new department he was moved into.

This kid is someone she sees in the halls at school. I’m gonna punch the kid out myself and the Owner, who was too big of a coward to even return my call. I was… and am… pissed. I hope that jerk has a lot of EXTRA work to do, now that he’s run off good help. Gonna suck playing on the playground when there is no one to play with.

Last night at 10:00 PM I woke up from a long nap and took Geisha and Buckley out to do their business. When I stepped outside my glasses fogged up due to entering the jungle like atmosphere from the A/C. Nothing new to report on the weather. Today is to be another day in the 90s with high humidity and so my outside activities will be limited.
Called the contractor that bid on the 12′ x 17′ sunroom addition and new 24′ x 30′ attached garage and gave them the go ahead after I talk to them about a couple of details, additions, and scheduling. I want to know how much more it will cost to cover the 10′ concrete apron in front of the new garage. Today I will call the gas company and ask when they are going to come out and move my meter. I already authorized the work a week ago but have not heard back. My cousin that will be doing the electrical work will come out today to look the situation over and be clear on what I want done.
Once the new garage is in the old garage will be converted to my workshop and a place to park a golf cart and possibly my zero turn mower. A chain link fence with 8′ gate will run from the back corner of the new garage down the side of the old garage to provide a fenced in area for the dogs to go out without being put on a leash or lead. Eventually I will insulate and re-side the old garage with vinyl to match existing except at the rear where the lean-too is that where I store the wood. That will remain aluminum siding.
I also have to get a friend who has a tree service out to take out a couple of trees and trim some others. I’ll have him cut the medium sized Chinese Elm down that it too close to the house. Usable pieces will be cut 17 1/2″ long max to fit in my insert. Will stack it on the gravel along side my old garage and let it cure there for a couple years until I have room in my lean-too for it and then split it and stack it.
Plenty to keep me busy.

Me too. At 78 I still groom. Nice to have that extra little income to make ends meet. My hubby at 84 has the dead trees cut down, cut to length, and split and stacked. He has enough done to heat the house all next winter. We only fill the oil tank about once every 4 to 5 years. All that work saves a lot of money.
Well, I’m doing what I things now I have always wanted to do. So I guess that’s what counts. I refuse to sit my butt down in front of the boob tube or computer and waste away.
BTW, my new computer is about built. Going to have double monitors. Cost will be $2,700. Top of the line everything except I don’t need a high dollar video card since I’m not a gamer and the processor will do what I need in that area. My nephew who is building it says it is going to be awesome.
You’ll dig the 2 monitors–how did I ever not have these?
FYI … your 24 x 30 garage would cost anywhere from $250.00 – $350.00/sq.ft. here in the SF Bay Area, or $170,000.00 – $250,000.00. And that doesn’t include any soft costs for; Architectural drawings, Structural plans and calculations, city planning fees; parks fee, transportation fee, drainage fee or County building fees, including local schools developers fees. Almost another $100,000.00 in soft costs.
Yeah … people need to be Googleaires to afford construction here in the Bay Area.

Central Indiana. About 35 mi. NE of Indianapolis. Your down payment on a house in the SF area is about what the whole price for the same house would be here.
I could get it if I wanted it but would cost more. Spray foam is great until you want to run new electrical wires or plumbing or whatever in the walls. Besides, it’s a garage with overhead doors. No matter how well sealed initially and insulated your going to have some loss eventually through and around those doors.
I only intend to heat the thing to keep it at about 40 deg. in the winter. Now when I insulate the old garage for my workshop that I will have heat and A/C for all year use, foam in the walls is a great option. smaller space to heat and cool though.
One notable thing about the Republican losers debate concerning the climate wars. Vivek was the only one that told the truth on the matter. If they kill Trump, and I would not put it past them, Vivek would be my man.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Have you been the recipient of an unsolicited opinion? Most people who have experienced this would agree that it is rarely enjoyable or beneficial! As a follower of Christ, you may find family or friends do not completely understand the basis of your decisions or how you choose to live your life.
Unbelievers may particularly seem perplexed with your choices!
God’s purposes and plans for you as a follower of Christ are so holy at times that the world simply cannot conceive of them. “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18). On the contrary, wealth and status drive the world system and those caught up in that race cannot see past it.
As you attempt to follow the leading of God’s voice, you will not fit into a pleasure-focused culture. Be assured that, in those very times when your life is most baffling to the world, you are being a testimony to Christ without words!
Those who try to fit God nicely into a box of human reasoning do not find salvation. Worldly philosophers and humanistic scholars cannot point you to a rich spiritual life. Only by seeking God through His Son Jesus Christ will you be blessed with His Holy Spirit to guide and teach you the joys of knowing your Holy Creator, God.
Pray for those governing the United States to look past earthly knowledge and seek godly wisdom. Ask that those making critical decisions today would have confidence in choosing to go God’s way rather than acquiescing to the world’s values.

Piper is such a great pastor, now retired. I split hairs on a few issues with him, but he’s enlightened me a lot.
My take-away here is the Bible verse Piper quotes. Christ-followers should think like Christ – not like the world.
We do not need to fear, despair, worry, and the like. Rather, just remember what the Good Shepherd said to His sheep.

This heat has debilitated us, rah. We’ve kept the indoor temp around 85-6 because the bills are barely doable. I’m not sure there is a normal anymore. But as nothing goes on forever we will wait for relief and thank God for it when it comes.
I’m so sorry Betsy. Relief is coming. Our house isn’t that big and our electric bill in July was $346.00. It will be about the same for August I suspect. But we have our thermostat set at 68 deg. My furnace and A/C date from the 60’s. Been waiting to put a new one in after the additions are put on. Older units are more reliable for the long run but less efficient.
Went to the store today. On the way I pass the pasture where Angus graze. It has a pond. Today all the cows, and even the calves were standing in that pond.
Ohhhh, I’m looking forward to that. These feels like days of 110+ are definitely draining.

This picture is not the greatest. This was a total surprise for her, so she was decked out in a messy ponytail, and frumpy clothes to keep warm in the March late winter of Indiana. But this was her first trip up. She’s had another and has 1.2 hours in her flight book.
I’m trying to work a little blessing to see if I can get her up with the flight instructor this weekend. She’s saved $2K of her hard-earned money. Doesn’t hurt to use a little towards her goal, though she’s not fully enrolled in pilot’s school until she’s got a bit more stocked up. I’m trying to teach her the value of earning it on her own.
Mo – imagine right now – I am giving you a big ol’ weepy hug. I love you, brother, and I love our friends at the Tree. I am honored to be here among you. Hope you saw my message the other night when we were memorializing your darling wife.

Almost too many years ago to remember. Sigh – all my heart. Every piece of it.
My water broke, I labored for 24.5 hours, then they had to take her via cesearean anyway. That was a Wednesday oh-God-30 early morning. This was 2 days later when I brought her home. She was an emergency delivery with her cord wrapped twice around her neck and knotted. She was truly a miracle.
She came forth to be delivered and I was dilated to 8 cm and God said “no further” and he saved my daughter’s life.
She is destined for great things and our time as free Americans is not over. She wants to be a Judge (and she would make a very good one), a Pilot, and a Mechanical Engineer. She has a big life ahead of her and I’m not going to be the one to tell her she CAN’T do it. She can as The Lord deems all things possible and as she moves forward to fulfill His Divine Purpose in her.
She and you are beautiful miracles. God will see you through. I am sure Savannah will accomplish all her goals and more because she has our Father and you for her champions.
