There is a book of fiction called “The Raffle Baby” by Ruth Talbot. It is about three young people who literally have nothing and somehow come together and live as hobos during the “great depression”. They ride the rails , catching rides to where ever there is farm work, across the country and back for three years.The narrator carries the story along so well and so lyrically that it is not sad or depressing at all but quite interesting.
In fact,Garrison, I don’t really know you but the female character and the way the narrator speaks of her reminded me of some of your stories about your wife and yourself. Not that you were ever homeless of course, but the spirit of it somehow reminded me of your tales.
In any case, it is a good read.

Just got back from a long lunch with an absolute best friend. One of the advantages of getting old is the ability to cherish having long-term best friends around.
They get more precious as time goes by. It sounds as if you and she were having a halcyon lunch. I AM so glad🤗💕
I saw a beautiful tree today and for a brief moment I lost my mind, I wanted to climb it.
The limbs were perfect it was tall and roomy and around the top was so many vantage points to just sit and look while the breeze moved its limbs. It was an oak tree, the bark is a little rough but makes for good ‘clinging’ you just can’t slide or wear shorts. Sycamore is great, or cottonwood, it’s what we have in Oklahoma.
I was assessing my body for the task. Could my grip hold me, can my core strength still get me through the obstacles. Can my muscles pull me and push me to my goal?
I stopped at knees. My knees have been killing me lately and bending them is extremely painful. I even thought maybe with some Advil or aspirin. I need a moment in a tree.
My consistent prayer since I was very young has been to fly. No plane, just like Superman. I dream dreams very often of that very gift, I’m sure many here do. Tree climbing was as close as I could get to that ability.
My dad was a pilot for many years and I grew up listening and watching old movies he made flying.
I’m not quitting, I’m guessing my wife will find me like a stranded cat some day, yelling for help. Gray haired dude stuck in a tree.
Kids are leaving now and I have enough money to get my pilots license. I must for my own sanity.
Old is not relative in body only mind.

Good Monday morning all!
As I write this at 01:18 local time, the temperature at my Indiana home is 73 deg. and the humidity is 93%. Obviously the grass is wet with a heavy dew. No way I’m doing hard manual labor outside today. And very thankful for my A/C and once I get done writing this will be heading back to bed.
Hillary, still a tropical storm, tracked a bit west of the projected path staying over water longer than expected and so the heavier weather than anticipated has fallen on San Diego and LA. Moving along now and continuing to dissipate. Forecast is for her to move due north now and dissipate into a tropical depression today. Still will continue to bring lots of rain.
Out in the Atlantic:
Last Friday I mentioned that things were popping in the Atlantic and it was time to start paying attention. The African wave train is pumping them out into the MDR. And so here we are at the beginning of the period during the hurricane season when things generally get more active with 3 tropical storms and two invests on the map.
The ones to watch are the invest in the Gulf and TS Franklin down in the South Caribbean. TS Gert and TS Emily are not going to effect land and will either die due to strong wind sheer or recurve and die. Too early to worry about the new invest furthest east.
So as I have already written the invest in the Gulf is expected to slowly develop and be a TS upon landfall right around the mouth of the Rio Grande. However, keep an eye on it, because Joe Bastardi has been hinting there is the possibility that it can gain strength very quickly upon approaching the coast or IOW there is a possibility it will be a much stronger TS or even a minimal hurricane upon landfall.
TS Franklin is by far the strongest TS in the Atlantic at this time and is most likely going to take a right turn Clyde and head north up over Espanola. If it survives the mountains and comes out on over water to the north and then survives the severe sheer, it is likely to strengthen into a Hurricane south of Bermuda. More and more of the models are changing to show that exact scenario. And if that happens this one could eventually end up threatening the east coast of the US.

There is earthly wisdom and there is godly wisdom. Both use knowledge but, from that point forward, there are stark differences. The apostle James relates wisdom in terms of behavior. One of the best examples is Daniel.
He and his three friends were taken from Judah to Babylon to serve before King Nebuchadnezzar. They were to be educated for three years and feast on food from the king’s table. The aim to assimilate them into the culture of the Chaldeans was met by their resolve not to defile themselves with the food from the king’s table. Their conduct through it all gave glory to God (Daniel 1).
Those who primarily care about earthly gain obtain knowledge that makes them feel superior. The acquisition of worldly knowledge may be motivated by jealousy or selfish ambition, self-centeredness, or loveless arrogance and is not of God. It is important to realize that “God is not a God of confusion but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33). Those who seek wisdom from above will be characterized by purity, an attitude of peace, gentleness, and reasonableness.
Their daily conduct will be an application of the knowledge of God through their study of the Word and prayer.
As Matthew Henry wrote, “True wisdom is God’s gift. It is not gained by conversing with men nor by the knowledge of the world… but it comes from above.” It is seen in those who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and desire to serve and obey Him.
Ask the Lord to help you walk in His wisdom, then intercede for those who serve in government office, that they may do the same.

I was in Romania many years ago and the people, although handsome, were all dressed in black peasant type clothes. There were wagons in the city streets pulled by oxen.
There were people who looked more “modern” but it was not a parade of well dressed youthful bodies.
My husband was in Russia and said the same. The cities are beautiful but no one was smiling in Russia at that time.
So being sent to Siberia these days wouldn’t be horrible. Everything is SO CLEAN!!!!!!

He was one of the ‘Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood’ a group that formed in the middle 1800’s. They were unhappy with the kind of art they saw emerging at that time and formed a group to return to the more classical style and painting techniques. They used myths and legends and such, as their subjects ( even as posted, Ophelia’s drowning from ‘Hamlet’ by Wm. Shakespeare. )
There are quite a few original Pre-Raphaelite works in the galleries of Northern England eg. Manchester, which I have seen and do like them very much and admire the craftsmanship and skill of their magical works. There were some ‘nouveau riche’ business men made wealthy from the dark Satanic Mills etc. of the Industrial Revolution which was centered in the North of England and these men wanted to enhance their newly-acquired luxurious homes with art. They purchased some of these works by the Pre-Raphaelites, which later ended up in local galleries. One painting done by Burne-Jones I really liked, ‘King Cophetua and the Beggar Maid.’ However I like all of their paintings really. I am actually a lover of (some!) modern art too. I like all kinds of art. I am so glad to see art lovers perched on branches The Tree.

jb…I like this style as well. One of the most appalling developments in the art world in Britain is the Turner Prize, which should be given, in my opinion, to works of a similar nature as JMW Turner and other artists painted. To put his name on a prize for what passes for “art” amongst the British aesthetes today is a travesty.
Instead it is awarded to some of the most grotesque and often lazy entrants which have nothing to do with art or beauty at all. I am in the camp of the late Professor Sir Roger Scruton. Beauty is essential. The preservation of beauty existential. And while I realize beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, past winners of that prize have produced nothing worthy of the title of beautiful, inspiring, sublime…nothing I would stand in front of for a split second, never mind go to see.
But their artistic aberrations are, in fact, one thing. A hideous but accurate reflection of how degraded so called art has become, and a perfect mirror for the degradation of our once civilized society and culture.
I want to be transported, have my imagination challenged, perhaps put myself into an artist’s work, leave this sorry old world for just a little while.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

EVENING PRAYER
A win today! Yay GOD!!!
My daughter, a junior in high school, is in her US History class and they’re covering Jonestown. (A lot.) The kids are being shown pictures of cannibalism and graphic photos including a woman who has had half her face eaten off.
The assignment for the juniors was to draw a picture, in detail, of cannibalism. (Yeah… satan, we see you.)
My daughter draws a picture of a snake eating another snake – the story of Moses verses Pharoah where Pharoah’s sorcerer threw his staff down and it turned into a snake. Moses threw his staff down and Moses’s snake of God ate the evil snake.
Savannah is openly stating that she will NOT look at such photos and “Why are they having to do this? Is this a joke? What is WRONG with them forcing the kids to do this??!!” Other kids then pipe up after her and refuse and revolt.
The teacher reacts embarrassed and shamed. Those are not behaviors of God – those are reactions of satan.
That’s my girl. She’ll probably get thrown out of school – well SO BE IT.
I couldn’t be PROUDER OF HER.
This is years of hiding Scripture in her heart to yield it like a sword to fight when she is drawn into battle.
