In June 2020, the World Economic Forum warned1 that the world must prepare for an “inevitable global cyberattack,” a “COVID-like global cyber pandemic that will spread faster and further than a biological virus, with an equal or greater economic impact.”
“Our ‘new normal’ isn’t COVID-19 itself — it’s COVID-like incidents. And a cyber pandemic is probably as inevitable as a future disease pandemic,” the WEF said.
In November 2020, the WEF followed up with a report co-created with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, which warned that the global financial system is failing to keep up with the ever-growing list of cyberthreats and is ill-equipped to defend against large-scale cyberattacks.2
To address this problem, the report called for greater coordination between government and industry, and for nations to cooperate more directly and intimately, rather than drafting a new treaty on international cybercrime.
Similarly, in March 2021, the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) predicted that a cyberattack on the global financial system is practically inevitable, with ransomware and other extortion attacks topping the list of hazards.3,4
Another major target for cybercriminals and ransomware hackers is the health care industry, which has seen the largest increase in attacks — about double that of other industries.5

Republicans seemed sincere when they argued against a minimum-wage increase. In their rhetoric they were right: it increases unemployment, especially among the poor, by making work illegal. Even the head of Clinton’s Council of Economic Advisers denounced the minimum wage—when he was a private economist.
But when it came down to the wire, both parties backed the increase. The labor unions and the partisans of the controlled economy won a huge one. Austrian economists could only marvel at the triumph of politics over reason.
Why did this happen? It wasn’t intellectual confusion. No government intervention has been so widely debunked as the minimum wage. It wasn’t public pressure; opinion polls showed support for the increase, but it was far from intense. While the political contributions of labor unions help explain the Democrats behavior, it doesn’t explain why the Republicans went along.
The real reason has to do with the least-discussed effect—call it the dirty secret—of the minimum wage. To be sure, raising it hurts many workers, who are thereby priced out of the market. But among those who keep their jobs, their wages increase and they pay more in taxes to government at all levels.
Like inflation, an increase in the minimum wage is a stealthy tax increase as well. It provides in billions in new revenue for the president and Congress to play with, while allowing them to forecast smaller deficits.

In truth, there is only one way to regard a minimum wage law: it is compulsory unemployment, period. The law says: it is illegal, and therefore criminal, for anyone to hire anyone else below the level of X dollars an hour. This means, plainly and simply, that a large number of free and voluntary wage contracts are now outlawed and hence that there will be a large amount of unemployment. Remember that the minimum wage law provides no jobs; it only outlaws them; and outlawed jobs are the inevitable result.
All demand curves are falling, and the demand for hiring labor is no exception. Hence, laws that prohibit employment at any wage that is relevant to the market (a minimum wage of 10 cents an hour would have little or no impact) must result in outlawing employment and hence causing unemployment.
If the minimum wage is, in short, raised from $3.35 to $4.55 an hour, the consequence is to disemploy, permanently, those who would have been hired at rates in between these two rates. Since the demand curve for any sort of labor (as for any factor of production) is set by the perceived marginal productivity of that labor, this means that the people who will be disemployed and devastated by this prohibition will be precisely the “marginal” (lowest wage) workers, e.g. blacks and teenagers, the very workers whom the advocates of the minimum wage are claiming to foster and protect.
The advocates of the minimum wage and its periodic boosting reply that all this is scare talk and that minimum wage rates do not and never have caused any unemployment. The proper riposte is to raise them one better; all right, if the minimum wage is such a wonderful anti-poverty measure, and can have no unemployment-raising effects, why are you such pikers? Why you are helping the working poor by such piddling amounts? Why stop at $4.55 an hour? Why not $10 an hour? $100? $1,000?
It is obvious that the minimum wage advocates do not pursue their own logic, because if they push it to such heights, virtually the entire labor force will be disemployed. In short, you can have as much unemployment as you want, simply by pushing the legally minimum wage high enough.

That does not preclude the virus being taken from the lab deliberately and released on purpose.

The last couple of days I have had to deal with the DMV in person, something I have not done in a very long time. Here in South Florida the system is incredibly non-functional. It is completely overwhelmed by trying to cater to the needs of foreign nationals who arrived here by whatever method DHS currently employees to bring in foreigners. Absolutely zero attention is paid to Americans trying to resolve their business, this place is a zoo in more ways than one. It’s complete madness.
And those foreign nationals will end up being 2024 democrat mail in ballots.

You should get in the car and drive a couple hours to a small town in North Florida and go into the DMV there. No lines, and halfway helpful individuals behind the counter! Quite refreshing when you have become accustomed to the way things work from Orange County on down to where you are at!
I made an appointment in Sebring for Monday just in case. They answered the phone, they do out of county, so if this doesn’t work I’m all set. Great tip. Thanks

This is going to spread rapidly beyond NYC. There are plenty of abandoned, vintage motels in other parts of the state, as well as throughout the entire country. Owners of places like in the pic below would gladly accept government funds to rehab their facility and house the recent arrivals.
These older motels used to be Mom and Pop operations that were clean and nice. Now, for the most part, are owned by Pakistani and Indian corporations (Thanks to Barry O). They are generally run down and are managed by imported Pakistani and Indian nationals who bring their family’s over to clean the rooms.

Apparently, some well-to-do Commiefornian transplants to Montana have sued the State (and won) because “climate change” has made the trees and plants on ski mountains produce too much pollen for this particular fancy lad (grown-ass man) to be able to fully enjoy late season skiing on account of his allergies. Having spent many a season on or near ski mountains in the Northern Rockies, I can tell you that few to none of the native flora begin blooming when there is still enough snow to ski on.
I hate to say it but Idaho, Montana and Utah may have passed the point of no return much like Georgia has (and Florida is about to) where so many leftoids and republican’ts have infiltrated the State gov’t that normal life will not be possible in these States going forward.

J.J. Sefton’s piece this morning takes on Prof Jacobson at Legal Insurrection’s plea to just move on and bury this capital crime behind us. I concur fully with J.J.’s analysis, here’s a snip from him:

You rightly rail against, as even I have, Donald Trump re-litigating the 2020 election as a pillar of his 2024 campaign. Yet what happened in 2020 cannot and must neither be ignored nor minimized. But again, to do so presupposes this attitude of “business as usual” when by even the most cursory examination of events and the situation we find ourselves in proves it is anything but.”

If I were to go back and build a homestead, I would look for land between Felt, ID and Ashton, ID. Fremont County is badass. They also have some wicked sand dunes for your ATV riding pleasure.
