Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

8/8/2023 – Has this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
Joel 1:2-12 “Hear this, you old men, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? Tell you your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. That which the palmerworm has left has the locust eaten; and that which the locust has left has the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm has left has the caterpillar eaten. Awake, you drunkards, and weep; and howl, all you drinkers of wine, because of the New Wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. For a nation is come up upon My land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the cheek teeth of a great lion. He has laid My vine waste, and barked My fig tree: he has made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’s ministers, mourn. The field is wasted, the land mourns; for the Corn is wasted: the New Wine is dried up, the Oil languishes. Be you ashamed, O you husbandmen; howl, O you vine-dressers, for the Wheat and for the Barley; because the Harvest of the field is perished. The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languishes; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.”
Revelation 3:1-6 “And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things says He that has the [seven] Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know your works, that you have the Name that you live, and are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are about to die: for I have not found your works perfect (complete) before God. Remember therefore how you have received and heard, and keep [it] (keep watch, carefully guard), and repent. If therefore you shall not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you shall not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in *Sardis (put your town here) which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white: for they are worthy. He that overcomes, he shall be clothed in white garments, and I will in no wise blot out his name from the Book Of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels. He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
Proverbs 24:30-34 “I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; and, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it (set my heart) well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall your poverty come as one that travels; and your want as an armed man.”
Proverbs 25:28 “He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”
1 Timothy 4:1-2 “Now the Spirit expressly speaks, that in latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits, and teachings of demons speaking lies in hypocrisy, being cauterized [as to] their own conscience,”
The scene described in Joel’s parable, and warning of approaching doom; is about the state of God’s people in the latter times. Just as it happened to the beloved and chosen people of the God’s Covenant in ancient time; so is it also how the LORD finds the churches of the Gentiles today, in these last days.
First is described the continual and increasing coming of plagues of devouring worms and locusts; which every season robbed them of more and more of their crops and sustenance; till the vines were desolate, and the fruit trees and fields empty and waste.
For exactly the same reason that the prophet was sent to wake up the drunkards, with the alarm of war and terrible tribulation, only culminating in the Day of the LORD; so does the Lord Jesus Christ speak to rebuke and warn the churches, ahead of the rise of the Antichrist, the great and final tribulation which shall devour the whole earth, and the coming of the Lord and the end of the world.
Space for repentance and taking real steps to be ready for meeting the LORD, is not an indefinite period of time. And for every time one makes light of the warnings, and turns away his ear from hearing; he cauterizes his conscience, and hardens more and more into a condition that he cannot be saved. When a man does this all his days; and every choice he makes is to put off and avoid the Light that convicts him of sin, and his need to get right with God, and his brother; so the chances are he will one day suddenly be taken as he is into eternity, without grace, unfit for the Presence of God; and must go where sinners go for ever.
Luke 11:20-26 “Now if I with the finger of God cast out demons, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. When a strong man armed keeps his palace, his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he takes from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divides his spoils. He that is not with Me is against Me: and he that gathers not with Me scatters. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return into my house from where I came out. And when he comes, he finds it swept and adorned (decorated). Then he goes, and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
Excerpt taken from:
Smith Wigglesworth – Ever Increasing Faith – chapter 8 – Righteousness
It is written of our blessed Lord, “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” It is the purpose of God that we, as we are indwelt by the Spirit of His Son, should likewise love righteousness and hate iniquity. I see that there is a place for us in Christ Jesus where we are no longer under condemnation but where the heavens are always open to us. I see that God has a realm of divine life opening up to us where there are boundless possibilities, where there is limitless power, where there are untold resources, where we have victory over all the power of the devil. I believe that, as we are filled with the desire to press on into this life of true holiness, desiring only the glory of God, there is nothing that can hinder our true advancement.
Peter commences his second epistle with these words, “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” It is through faith that we realize that we have a blessed and glorious union with our risen Lord. When He was on earth Jesus told us, “I am in the Father and the Father in me.” “The Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works.” And He prayed to His Father, not only for His disciples but for those who should believe on Him through their word, “That they all may be one; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me.” Oh what an inheritance is ours when the very nature, the very righteousness, the very power of the Father and the Son are made real in us. That is God’s purpose, and as we by faith lay hold on the purpose we shall be ever conscious of the fact that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. The purpose of all Scripture is to move us on to this wonderful and blessed elevation of faith where our constant experience is the manifestation of God’s life and power through us.

Thank you for the post. Very good!
(from the footnotes) “How does this happen?” Excellent question. Every Christian should have such a heart in them to search out these kinds of things.
Many, MANY years ago, when I was really a brand new Christian, someone gave me a tract, called, “200 Omissions” by Jasper J. Ray. In it he brings out very clearly how there were essentially two lines that our modern Bibles come from: one from the Latin Vulgate, and the other from the Greek Textus Receptus. I am sure there are a number of good books still available, if someone is interested on that topic. For it is vitally important that we have ALL of God’s word, without man having messed with it, and taken things out he didn’t like.
I found this with a quick search, and it seems to have some of the basics, that I can remember. I’ll post the link below. It is not an exhaustive work, but good information for a start.

Alexandrian Manuscripts vs. Textus Receptus; What’s the Difference?Lord’s Library (lordslibrary.com)
Near the bottom, it actually mentions four different ‘families’ of Greek manuscripts. And yes, there are differences, just like our modern translations have differences.
‘complete’ manuscripts haven’t been found from the time of the writing of the New Testament. We have fragments dating to within 100 years, and we have phrases used by church fathers. But complete manuscripts come later. Accident of what has survived. Probably even due to the history of what was put together.
I am always torn when it comes to the KJV. Yes, it is my name, but how can you trust a group who rename an apostle after the King they are sucking up to? (It is Jacob, not James.) On the other hand, the committee of translators strove to use the best sources available and worked hard to use the best English possible. Try comparing Mark 5:41. Gorgeous language. Thing is, as beautiful as the language is, it is probably not what was written or what Jesus said.
But translating is like that. Literalism almost always loses the beauty within. And license often has to be taken to convey things that literalism misses.
I have no clue ‘Which Greek Manuscript Tradition’ is right. The KJV translators did not have access to the abundance we have access to.
But I have doubts about Alexandrian sources. There was great politicking to determine just what we should believe, and Alexandria was the center of a faction. I don’t know whether their beliefs determined their Bible or vice a versa. (Same hold true for all manuscript traditions.) But many of these factions were erased over time. And such losses influenced our current beliefs.
If we look, Islam wiped out Egypt and Jerusalem early on. Constantinople held out for hundreds of years. And Rome, while sacked by Barbarians, never lost its Christianity. And we find that history influenced what was available to translate for the KJV. The Byzantine tradition not the Alexandrian and the Vulgate.
Date plays a role but can mess us up. Should we use the Geneva bible since it was earlier than the KJV? BTW, the Pilgrims did. Not for that reason. KJV took over America in part because KJ outlawed the Geneva bible, in part because we relied on English trade for bibles. Imagine if our government put out an ‘official’ bible and banned all other versions. I would not want to see what changes the woke would inflict on us. And that is how the Puritans felt at the time. And there were significant changes.

And as I look into dating of these things, it all seems a bit too subjective. Stuff like ‘America has quit teaching cursive, so all cursive writing is before such and such a date’ but applied to how handwriting changed back then. And dating is a standard tool for discrediting in the vicious world of biblical academia.
As an aside, this article shows pictures of some of the earliest dated fragments.
https://biblearchaeologyreport.com/2019/02/15/the-earliest-new-testament-manuscripts/
Going from his first line, he clearly does not follow some of the dating trends that push most of the New Testament to be written long after any witnesses were dead, while pushing Gnostic writings as early.
It is in truth an ugly field. Rife with agendas. While interesting, it is easy to get sucked into information designed to undercut faith.
I believe people are seeing it now.
I heard a young man speak of relationship vs religion and how his generation is asking for truth not religion. That means God will be on the throne not man.
The program is not to seek, not to ask, not to knock. That judgement is for liberals not Christians. Christians should be silent because we may damage an ego.
As Christians our job is inhalation of our ego and anyone else’s ego that might be seeking truth.
Hi Palerider,
There is a very interesting part, in the beginning of Paul’s epistle to Titus; where he is advising the overseer of Crete to beware of those who oppose and contradict, who talk too much and subvert whole households; (referring to the unbelieving Jews, who were working against the apostles, to turn the Cretans away from the faith. And then he says, that a “prophet of their own,” meaning of the Jews; had said that, the Cretans are always lazy gluttons, etc., and then he said, that “this witness is true; for this reason, rebuke them sharply, that they be sound in the faith.” And it occurred to me, that Paul was saying, that the bad witness of the saints in Crete, by their undisciplined conduct, was giving occasion for the enemies of the Lord to reproach; because, he said, “This witness is true; wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they be sound in the faith.”
So too, terms that have always been understood for exactly what they meant; like piety, and religion; because of the scorn and derision of the mockers and disobedient, have now become universally adopted, as something to be despised.
For if you call someone “pious,” it usually, most naturally has negative connotations, and calling him a hypocrite. So too, “religion” is somehow identified with the Pharisees; when its true meaning is, “To visit the widow and the orphan in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” But instead, we have an attitude today, that if someone is absolutely and wholly converted and zealous for God, and has consecrated himself to a religious course in life, for fear of God, and having a good conscience always; he is labeled a fanatic and a “religious nuisance.”
I remember one time, my wife and I went into a small non-denominational church in Southern California; and after the services, when they began distributing bags of groceries to the needy who had come; I struck up a conversation with one of the elders, about having rock music, and bringing the world into the church. And the man’s reaction was one of defiance and hostility, saying, we do not believe in legalism, etc. I tried to explain, and to convince him, that it is the preaching of Jesus, and the cross, and giving the Spirit-inspired sense and meaning of the word, that will bring the power of God unto repentance and conversion and changed lives; but he held his ground, getting red in the face, that i his view, God thought it was alright to use worldly means to draw young people, who wouldn’t otherwise come.
So, you use the world to attract people to another Jesus and another gospel, that lets them keep what they like in the world? “If any man loves the world, he is constituted and enemy of God.” And that’s the whole reason why the world hates Jesus, and everyone who belongs to Jesus, because He is not of the world, and He has called us out from the world; and God now reckons us, NOT OF THE WORLD.
I really don’t think that God has to worry, or be overprotective of His own honor and glory; as if a man might steal it from Him. He that exalts himself, God is able to abase; and He is well able to help all of His children learn how to overcome ALL the cunning and evil devices of the devil.
Hi Jim, I sincerely appreciate; The LORD has sure given you an ability to separate mentally and organize what you’ve learned, and eloquently put your thoughts in order. I admire that.
You bring up so many interesting and very important points.
The “accident” that we have the Bible at all today: yes, as far as how hard men moved by the devil have worked that the word should be taken away completely; how true! But that shows the power of God, and His word, where it is said, that “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” (Psalm 12:6-7)
I’ve always thought it strange, (well, since I learned it anyway,) why they translated Ya’acov – Jacob, to James. But then again; I think the English, (and Americans, etc.) have something in their brains that doesn’t let them hear foreign words right. I think every other nation in the world is able to pronounce words and names correctly; but the English speaking peoples seem like they deliberately have to say it different! It is probably a pride thing; but it doesn’t make anyone think they’re very intelligent. Anyway, forgive me for the rant.
Mark 5:41 “And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.” Are you referring to the Hebrew (or Aramaic) Talitha cumi? Why would not Jesus have spoken the native language of the Hebrews? There are a couple of places where it says specifically in that tongue: Ephphatha – Be opened; for example, or, Eli, Eli, lama tzevachtani – My God, My God, Why have You forsaken me. Sorry, I miss your point here.
I don’t necessarily agree that we have better resources today; at least not altogether; just for the very reasons you mentioned above. With all the Satanic and heathen-minded hindrance and opposition, that is NOT anything different or less today; the only thing I believe we can claim as “better” is the vanity and pride and overfed self indulgence; which does not make for keener spiritual minds or discernment of the truth.
So, the way I understand it, King Henry VIII instituted the Church of England, the Anglican Church, in “revolt and defiance” to Rome. That was in the 1400’s, right? From those days, and even earlier, there were men of God, scholars, like Wycliffe; who had access to the Greek; is that right? And part of the reasons for gravitating to the Greek and Hebrew Scriptures, and away from the Latin, was because of the desire for returning to the original Christianity of the apostles, the “Judaeo Christian” traditions; as opposed to the Roman version, instituted by Constantine, whose conversion in my opinion was spurious; as he still held on to his Pagan gods, and mandated a State compelled religion. And this was precisely what the Lord said was how the heathen nations accounted for greatness; but it would not be so among us; to exercise lordship over one another.
And so, while some simple ones have considered that to have been a Divine Intervention, and a miracle, that the Emperor became a Christian; all the evidence shows, that the devil simply changed his tactics, from the overt persecutions under the former Emperors, to the new oppressions and persecutions from the religious room: for the Roman version has always been a re-dressing of the old Pagan religion, by simply changing the names to Mary and Joseph and Jesus; but keeping all the old meanings and mysteries.
Wasn’t the Geneva Bible the work of John Calvin? I would have thought, that true men of God, with the same Holy Spirit, would have loved one another, and cooperated together for the good of all believers; and would have understood that the old heathen war-like mentality, and wanting to dominate and rule over others, to force into submission; was nothing connected with Jesus and the kingdom of God.
I appreciate your views, and strongly agree. What can and should be taken as useful tools for learning the Scriptures, and knowing the LORD, the way He intends for us to know Him; just like everything else that is good, and is intended to work to the betterment of men; the haters of the LORD can always twist into something ugly and perverted, to steer people away from.
Add that to the soft on sin, and indolent spirit, and the great refusal of discernment and worldly contemporary church standards; it is extremely rare to find anyone even interested in such things; let alone earnest in his desires to really become that man or woman of God, as described and taught in the Bible. I see the results it has had in my life; and while I am the one who is responsible for my own choices and actions; there is account to be taken from those who led me into that kind of sneaking dishonesty and hiding of sin; instead of loving me, and caring for my soul, and teaching rather how to be of the truth on the inward parts.
I thank the Lord that He did not let me die in that condition; and continues to have patience, while I am a slow learner. At any rate, he knows our hearts, and still waits for us, that He may be gracious unto us.
Michael, Well thanks. But I don’t feel as good about the results regarding understanding what I was trying to say.
As I go through the translations of Mark 5:41
Is it Girl, Little girl, or Damsel?
Is it ‘I say unto thee’, ‘I say to thee’, ‘I say to you’, ‘I tell you’, or is it even there?
Is it arise or get up?
Here, all the translations get the point across, but some are crude and some are elegant. KJV is elegant.
They can’t even agree on spelling the cumi part. They have more spellings for that than we do for tsar or czar.
The author is giving us Jesus’ words and explaining what they mean. But the translators can’t agree. And they mangle together just about every combination of those choices they can think of.
I appreciate the grace of the KJV translation. But I don’t think that gives it ‘rightness’. But I have no clue how to judge ‘rightness’ of the translation either. Could it be as crude as ‘Little girl, get up’? (New Living Translation)
So, stopr rambling on, I will cut short this attempt to explain one paragraph.
Thanks again.
Michael, the 200 examples are based on a comparison with Erasmus’ edition of the Greek New Testament. Both Luther and the English scholars in 1611 used this edition exclusively. Since that time many more ancient manuscripts have been discovered. Erasmus had no access to them. When examining differences between ancient copies, we look for the oldest copies, and the most widespread. If one reading is only found in texts from one location, but all the other copies from several different areas have the same reading, then that is the most likely original reading.
Sometimes later readings reflect changes in the way the language was spoken. This is easily observed in our English language. While the KJV was a very good translation, we don’t talk like that anymore. On Biblegateway you can find at least 50 English translations. About half or more are from the last 50 years because of the way we speak today. The best ones required everyone who participated to state their unqualified acceptance of the Bible as the inspired word of God. The more literal ones reflect Greek and Hebrew sentence structure, but that is often not good English.
Hello John 17, Thanks for the reply.
I’m not convinced that Erasmus didn’t have the “access” to documents that we have today. He was in fact, closer to the original; and the degree of decay and of burying of the truth, was by FAR nothing resembling what we have today. We do not have more knowledge than they did back then; in fact we have become practically in a vacuum, compared to those from earlier times. The apostasy and corruption, the cauterized conscience from the inestimable horrors and cruelties that have been committed since then; so many things have worked over the centuries to rob man of knowledge of the truth, and a good conscience towards God!
I also understand, that as long as men are unwilling to come to the Light, that their deeds may be made manifest before God; as long as walking in a hypocritical show, instead of godly sincerity; is more popular and important; then there will be no end of those who find an argument for obeying the truth. That’s where is the trap, in my opinion; of getting drawn into academic disputes over words and histories, and things that distract from the conviction and guidance of the Holy Spirit. The things that are of God will always first and foremost, glorify Jesus, and convict us of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and instruct us unto the Son of God for salvation.
As far as “talking like that anymore,” what I’ve learned, is that they didn’t “talk like that” in those days either; but it was the High English for the reverence of the king’s court. The common people had their own dialect, just like we do today; which in some ways resembled the king’s English; but as far as the High English used for the sacred work of translating the Scriptures, similar to today, heard only in the company of the learned and in official business documents of the king.
Next to that; I think its really a pathetic excuse, for not getting a good concordance and dictionary and an interlinear Bible, and looking it up for yourself. God did not give us words that we could then smooth over and water down to make more comfortable to our selfish sneaking natures; but He gave us the words of truth to save our souls. If I have to look words up, because “they don’t talk like that anymore” then that’s what I’m gonna do! Nobody has the right to take away from, or change the word of God, to fit their modern stupidity and laziness. And we have been warned in the Scriptures, that that is strictly forbidden, to add to or take away from God’s word; under punishment of death and damnation.
Stage-playing of religion is the first apron sewn from fig leaves, of those who are hiding from God because they have sinned and are ashamed. But God calls us out from our hiding place, to give account, and tell Him what happened: then He judges what is right, for our just punishment; and for having righteous mercy upon us through Christ.
The better translations, such as NIV. EHV, HCSB and others do in fact translate directly from the Greek. The ancient Greek texts were copied by hand before the invention of the printing press. Often there were centers where copies were made and published, frequently several scribes would write while one dictated to the group. Occasionally there are minor discrepancies that track from the region where the copies were made. Many English translations note these differences with footnotes. Rarely does the variant make a difference, for example, if we call Jesus “our Lord,” or “your Lord.” There is a slight difference in emphasis, but both ways of saying it require faith to believe he is my Lord.
In the above example, “we have peace with God” is an objective statement that requires faith. “Let us have peace with God” also calls on us to believe that God has made peace with us.
It is also noteworthy that where there are variants, both the original and the copiest’s mistake have been preserved. The Old Testament scribes made a point of this by retaining the text as it was written and then putting in the margin the correct reading.
When you see an issue like what was pointed out above, do a word search on “peace.” Notice how it is used in many different places. Isaiah proclaims peace to those who are far away (gentiles) and peace to those who are near. He also warns that there is no peace for the wicked. Paul starts his epistles by proclaiming “grace, mercy, and peace to you…” Jesus appeared to his disciples and said, “Peace be with you.” Look up and enjoy dozens of other examples.
The NIV IS NOT a better translation! Its very popular, that’s for sure; but there’s a reason for that. It does not hold up to careful Spirit-led scrutiny. But it does go along with the contemporary, easy on sin, sloppy modern version of Christianity.
What is the “superior” results it has had on the holiness and vitality of the church, since it has become so prominent? Do the Christians today anything resemble those from the beginning? Or are they instead something completely unidentifiable with Jesus and the apostles?
Michael, I appreciate the discussion, but there are some points on which I must disagree. I will include comments on both of your replies here. First, the decay in the church at the time of Erasmus, a contemporary of Luther—a few years older as I recall—was actually worse than today. I do not want to minimize the apostasy that is so prevalent, where in the visible church pastors and seminaries despise the word of God. However, the visible church from top to bottom at the beginning of the 16th century was thoroughly anti-Christian. Also, at the time of John the Baptist and Jesus and his apostles, most refused to come into the light. “He came to his own and his own did not receive him.” So Jerusalem was destroyed about 40 years later.
Shakespearean English, also the KJV, was the language of the people. The common man had only a few books, and the Bible was one of them. That is how they learned English. In those days, the more educated class spoke and wrote in Latin. If you went to any university in Europe, –in England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy—the lectures were in Latin. That is why in science, medicine, law, and other disciplines, there still is a large vocabulary in Latin. Also it should be noted that koine Greek is the common language unlike classical Greek which is more formal. Only after many secular writings were discovered did it become apparent and widely known that koine Greek was the common spoken language, in large part because of the Hellenization resulting from Alexander the Great’s conquest of the world.
Luther’s German Bible put the word of God in the language of the people of Germany. Since it became the most widely published book, it also helped to minimize the number of dialects and unite the country in a more homogenous language. There were attempts to do the same for English speaking people prior to the KJV. Ultimately the KJV was a much superior translation and so it lasted for many years. Did the KJV depart from Hebrew idioms to speak more clearly in the language of the people? Of course it did. A couple examples to illustrate: We say “children of Israel” while the Hebrew exclusively renders it “sons of Israel.” Also, Hebrew verbs do not have time related tenses like our English past, present, and future. Could you render anything in English without using our verb structure?
If, as you seem to be saying, it is necessary to learn KJV English rather than to use a modern translation, why not instead insist that we all learn Hebrew and Greek? In my church body we do insist that all of our pastors learn to read the Scriptures in the original languages. We do not expect that of everyone.
While there are translators today who do not respect the word of God and who are willing to take away from it, it is egregious to then assert that all of the translations are that way. In fact it is also often the case that unfaithful pastors and teachers in the church have a good copy of the original text, or a good translation, but they do not teach and preach according to it. They dress up their lies with fine sounding phrases like the Bible isn’t a history or science book. Or since some parts are poetic or figurative, they pretend nothing is objectively true. You have heard lots of the nonsense. So did Jeremiah. So did Jesus. There are two kingdoms in this world. If they hated him, they will hate you. If they follow the father of lies, they will lie.
Just wondering also, do you know anyone who uses the second person pronoun in its singular form? We can understand it, and I could have said, dost thou know anyone who uses the singular second person pronoun? You would know what I mean, but you don’t talk like that anymore. Now our language is doing the same thing in the third person. Instead of “he” as the generic singular pronoun, people were using things like (s)he, he or she, switching between the two like this: Your baby needs his sleep, she also needs good food. Now more and more we use “they.” Can we say, “If anyone wants to come after me, they must take up their cross and follow me”? If I more strictly translate, “If anyone wants to come after me, he must take up his cross and follow me,” does that communicate the sense better—if you are talking to a woman?
I do disagree with you on your characterization of the NIV. There is nothing about it that displays an attitude that sin and righteousness and judgement are not serious. As far as I can tell, the churches that are most offensive on these matters don’t use it. The NIV required all of its translators to agree that the Scriptures are the inspired word of God, and that therefore their translation must as accurately as possible render the sense of the original as clearly as they can. Also, after the initial translation was completed, it was reviewed by English stylists to make suggestions to speak more idiomatic English. If, on the basis of the clear meaning in the original languages you have constructive criticisms, by all means, make them. Many did, and improvements were made in the 2011 revision. The original was completed in 1984.
The NIV and ESB (and others) contain footnotes after Mark 16: 8 generally to the effect of “the two most reliable early manuscripts do not have Mark 16: 9-20”. Irenaeus, Justin Martyr and Tatian all quoted these verses centuries before the “two most reliable early manuscripts”, Vaticanus and Sinaiticus from the Alexandrian-influenced region, were written. Over 1,600 other early manuscripts include the verses. It appears highly likely the two earliest physical manuscripts were expurgated of content which conflicted with Gnostic beliefs.
As far as “The Old Testament scribes made a point of this by retaining the text as it was written and then putting in the margin the correct reading”: the written variation is called a kethiv and the marginal note is the qere. A good example of this is 1 Kings 7:23. The normal spelling of circumference would add up to 106 (Hebrew letters have numerical value) but the addition of the extra letter (value 5) brings the total to 111. If you work the computation for the sentence, the basin is 10 feet across and has a circumference of 30 x 111/106 (31.41509434), bringing pi into the equation (the translation of 30 is inaccurate). This is not the only known instance of this type of embedding of a deeper meaning in the text.
https://khouse.org/articles/1998/158/print/
If I remember correctly, at least one of those manuscripts left room for the missing verses, which would indicate the manuscript being copied had worn out to the point where the end of the book was missing. That happens with use. The note in the EHV explains it quite well.
As for the “creative” attempt to get a better value for pi, I don’t buy it. All the dimensions are to the nearest cubit. Any decimal representation of pi is just an approximation, even to a million decimal places. Furthermore, we cannot impose the geometric definition of a circle to a round casting of that size. A ellipse can have an axis of 10 and a circumference of 30, but so what? In casting there is also the issue of shrinkage as it cools. If that kind of technical detail is what we are looking for, we are missing the point of the text, like the seed that fell on the path.
Here is a post about Death Valley and the seven deaths attributed to the heat there in July.
That’s Why They Call It Death Valley… • Watts Up With That?
This post got me to thinking about my visit there and to the old abandoned Borax mines. Most of here are old enough to remember the 20 Mule Team commercials is suspect.
Having been a fabricator I was interested in how those wagons were made and came across the video about making the wheels for those huge wagons. The craftsmanship is something to behold. Each large wheel weighs over 1,000 lb.
If you choose to watch the video think about how it must have been done in the day before they had things like fork trucks.
Very interesting video. Used to watch the Woodwright’s shop series on PBS. Then bought his books one of which has a bit about being a wheelwright.
Sure enough some episodes of the Woodwright’s Shop can be found on youtube.
He’s an old hippie liberal but a very interesting person nonetheless.
As far as the deaths in Death Valley? How about the hypothermia deaths every year? Death by exposure to cold doesn’t fit the narrative?
You still occasionally hear of the urban couple who strand themselves in the Northern Nevada, Oregon areas. If you’ve never traveled there it’s almost unimaginable how deserted these areas are. No people for miles and miles just the occasional ranch road leading off to a distant ranch house. There are lots of areas of the West for tenderfeet to get themselves into a survival situation in a California minute if you’ll pardon the pun.
Want a view and a spine tingling descent? Try the Langslet monument on route 140 in Oregon. Drops about 2000 feet in a couple miles. An image doesn’t do justice for the scale and immensity nor the drop off so here’s a video.
Talk about Death Valley-Among these magnificent nature photos there are a few of Death valley:
Landscape photography at its peak! Instagramming photographer captures jaw-dropping shots of mountains and giant rock formations around the world
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-12339175/Landscape-photography-peak-Instagramming-photographer-captures-jaw-dropping-shots-mountains-giant-rock-formations-world.html
Absolutely beautiful mountain photography, Charlotte. Lighting and cloud formations add to the magnificence and drama of the ever changing mountain views. God’s handiwork.
Wonderful photography!
For truckers the most notorious descent on an interstate in the US is the Cabbage Patch. I-84 westbound in Oregon. There are two lane roads even in the east that are far worse but this heavily traveled interstate has got the reputation of being the worst among those that have not had that experience of getting off the interstates onto two lanes in the mountains. And there certainly is a pucker factor during the winter because visibility and road conditions can get real fast on what is called Immigrant Hill on the map. Something like eight significant curves with several hairpins on the west side as I recall.
That was an interesting ride. I admire the truckers who face these challenges daily.
Hard to judge that one. Can’t tell without hearing seeing spray off the tires, mirror trying to ice and how the rig feels.
Not familiar with i84 in adverse conditions. I70 east from Eisenhower tunnel to Denver is notorious for runaways from overheating brakes.
Flattops West Virginia I77,
Sandstone east I64 w. Virginia. Black Mountain I40 east bound North Carolina……there’s really too many to list.
My worsts were fighting a jack knife on snow over iced bridges Zanesville Ohio I70 at 2am and overheating brakes with Oversize going into Coachella, CA on a hot desert day.
Flag to Phoenix will get your attention if you don’t pay attention.
Wickedest situation was blizzard Illinois where winds were blowing trucks, even some flatbeds off the road on Black ice. Nothing but four ways on the shoulder trucks on side or top.
So cold the truck heater wouldn’t heat, had to put power service 911 in the tanks as she was not wanting to idle. Sitting inside a truck stop waiting on them to reopen the interstate is as miserable as it gets.
Thank you, Rob.
This was absolutely fantastic !! Would like to see how they put those wheels on the wagons. WOW.
Ask and you shall receive. Here is synopsis of the construction of the whole wagon set. For wheel installation go to the 24 minute mark.
And here is the first hitch up and pull of the new wagons.
Thank you so much. Very interesting.
I love seeing the tools they used with the wheels. I still have the “wrench” used to tighten the nut in the wheels of my springboard wagon.
Really enjoyed these videos, I remember the Borax commercials. The old borax mines must have been something to see. Part of our history when we were growing up.
Thank you again for posting these.
I have been keeping your daughter in my prayers. How is she doing, did she have the new surgery yet? Many prayers and hugs for you and Sherry. I know it is hard on both of you too.
spot on!
(truth be told I’m a bit uneasy posting or seeing any image that is used to represent Christ in human form.
Oh, well….that being said here ya go. I do like the message)
Christ didn’t mind being seen in human form. He did His best work that way!
Or His angels. You never know when you may encounter one🕊
They are among us for sure! May they bring you His Light and Love.
Bless, oldschool. Thank you. And I pray both for you as well🙏🏻💕🕊🤗
Of course. What I’m saying is I’m uncomfortable with a human’s representation which in my mind can be a distraction. Now, if there were camera’s around during His time on earth that would be a different story however…………..umm don’t think there were.
😊

ITS INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY!!
Here is the CEO😎
I’ll take two please😍
A short story…
There is a black cat which shows up every morning to be fed. I have no idea if he is somebody’s or not. But as I’ve often said no animal which shows up here will go hungry.
Yesterday morning, I spotted him under my car in the early just morning light. So I put out a bowl of dry cat food, then tried to coax him.
I used my comforting, baby talk tone…
“Come on, sweet. Here’s your breakfast. I won’t hurt you. Come on little love” etc.
No movement, so I left him and went inside. When I came out again imagine my 😂😂😂 when I discovered I’d been talking to an old black plastic dish which had blown under the car in the middle of the night!
Hope the neighbours didn’t hear me…
Betsy that is sooooooo funny! I can totally relate!!
‘Tis the dog days of summer, Slowcobra😁. Plus was way to early in the morning…plus no coffee… Plus no spectacles on…
I’m hearing my cooing, dulcet tones even as I’m typing this…what an idiot!😂
Counting the days ’til October, Bet . . . 🙂
There and me, Garrison.
We shouldn’t wish the time away of course but here I am screaming “HURRY UP!!!!” 😩
Afternoon Bet, like I keep telling my bride, glasses are your friend. 🙂❤️
You won’t wrong, my brother…but in fairness it was still dark (ish)😉😎👍🏻
Good afternoon Betsy,
Welp I caught myself talking to a skunk once when I wasn’t paying attention and thought it was a cat. Was way too close but he didn’t spray. Lol.
I spent a fair bit of time typing out a similar story only to mess up and accidentally hit something on the phone and make it go “poof”, and not have time to re-do it.
Good to know I’m not alone on mistaking a skunk for a cat in the middle of the night.
As opposed to cautiously (!) chasing a skunk away from the cat food at 3AM a few years ago, but that’s another story.
We had a small one visit a month ago. Ate some dry cat food then moseyed on…thank goodness.
OMG, monti!!! How lucky were you! Once smelled, never forgotten. And the odor gets stuck in your nose…ugh!!

I have no words just misty eyes.
Good Morning All!
August 8
MORNING
The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Prov. 4:18
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:12
Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD. Hos. 6:3
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Matt. 13:43
We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. II Cor. 3:18
When that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. I Cor. 13:10
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. I Cor. 13:12
Beloved, now are we the sons of God; and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. I John 3:2, 3
EVENING
Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall he saved. Rom. 10:13
Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. John 6:37
Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. Luke 23:42, 43
What will ye that I shall do unto you? They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him. Matt. 20:32-34
If ye … being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 11:13
I will put my Spirit within you. Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of. Ezek. 36:27, 37
This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. I John 5:14, 15

Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment. – John 7:24
A couple from church observed a young man they knew to be part of the praise and worship team enter a downtown tavern. “What a shame,” they lamented. “He seemed to be such an upstanding young man.” How many times have you looked at a situation and come to a wrong conclusion?
What these congregants had not realized was that the young man did the same thing every night as he gathered up his besotted father, took him home, and put him to bed. What appeared to be one thing was actually something else.
Jesus knew, despite instructing His followers not to judge (John 7:1), that you would judge others. He cautioned, in today’s passage, to be sure you understand the person and the situation before you render your judgment. Jesus upset many people when He healed a man on the Sabbath. They pointed out that their laws forbade Him from doing such work. However, Jesus reminded them that they were willing to perform a circumcision on the Sabbath in accordance with the eight-day law, a type of work.
Correct judgment requires accurate information as well as a heart of grace and mercy.
Ask God to fill you with His wisdom, so that you might see people through His eyes. He will help you judge correctly. Pray that America’s jurists, who are called upon to judge people and situations, would seek help from Almighty God in discerning difficult or questionable issues.

I have always loved portraiture, and admire those artists who can transcribe what they see in front of them to canvas. Oh for a talent such as they have.
These are the work of Pietro Angionna. Until this iconic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II he was unknown. A 1947 exhibition of his was unattended, his painting style not being favoured during post war Britain.
But someone saw it and commissioned this stunning likeness of her. After that the aristocracy lined up outside his door to be painted for posterity.
The second is of Deborah, Success of Devonshire, and the third is one he entitled “A Portrait of a Lady”.
As we yearn for times gone by, imperfect as they were, here is a profile of an artist who was a chronicler of what is inarguably the best of those times. Who is probably more appreciated today than ever he was in his life…because his portraits show us the soul of America as we were once.
I lift prayers to Almighty God that through His mercies and grace we may return our country’s face to Him and experience those times once again.🙏🏻

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
Did you ever wonder why there is no back covering?
God has your back. Forward march! Stand firm against the enemy and he will never see your back.
Amen goes right there, Tex !!! ❤️

Amen, Amen!!!!!!
PLEASE PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER
IT IS NOT TIME
We are fighting a spiritual war
A war we will win and so much more
The enemy is already defeated
They defied an opponent they cheated
Every commandment of God they broke
In addition to the one Jesus spoke
The punishment for sin is surely death
They will suffer greatly to their last breath
If it were our very last days on earth
We would be fighting for all we are worth
The four horsemen would ride do their worst
As the Angels readied their vials dispersed
Six seals have been broken to correspond
With the restlessness of the martyrs spawned
Cosmic disturbances of varying kinds
The seventh the ‘silence in heaven’ finds
The vision of the first six seals has deceased
The wrath of God will then soon be released
The portrayal of self-inflicted judgement
A global war that destroys their ledgement
This is not what God wants for His chosen
A conflict not set in place or frozen
Under God’s protection to the left or right
We are shielded and fielded out of sight
It is not time for the final battle
Even though you hear the sabers rattle
God has not appointed us to wrath
Salvation thru Jesus is our direct path

Now, who believes that any of the holier than thou we care about the people in this country faux concern blather is about “keeping patients safe”?
It is certain that the tainted and poisonous concoction which has been forced into the American public and others won’t be investigated. But then again why would they do so??
Because they know what’s in it.
Murderers.

“After Covid-19 revealed the US’s dependence on other nations to provide crucial treatments, Congress directed the Defense Department to assess risks to its pharmaceutical supply chain. “
what about risks to the US public and not just the DOD?
This scheme could be a self generating deal. This so called quality control company has what kinda government contract future if they don’t find any low quality drugs?
The DoD formulated the biopoison. Therefore no EUA was required. Then they lied about it after handing their t over to Pfizer to manufacture knowing full well it was a deadly or life altering (sterilization) product.
Democide.
Just got a text c on CVS to tell they had a flu jab reserved “just for me”!!
