Fortuitous I visit here today with the music posts.
I have a question: Why do women seem to listen to so much sad romantic songs. Cheating seems to be a common thread.
I don’t get it. Why subject one’s self to heartbreak?

Perhaps it has something to do with the apparent 130 years Adam was supposedly separated from Eve. He probably told her he was just going fishing, and boys being boys, probably thought to himself, “Hey think I’ll just take a break, and go on a bit of a walk-about” Never really trusted us again did she? – and probably for good reason too. Still, the memory breaks their hearts. Both actually – hence all our deep down love songs.
Hmmm, maybe Adam was the original composer of this one – lol
I like smooth listening (think Sade) and she sings some sad-style, romanticy songs. I like the grooviness of her ballads and silky voice. She relaxes me. She and 90’s style Sting are perfect for rainy inside days.
However – if I am listening too intently to a sad romantic song – or to too many of the same kind of songs – it’s usually because I have someone particular in mind and am lamenting loss. Or getting ready to beat someone up and working anger out of my system (queue 90’s grunge here).
Fortunately, I tend to gravitate towards iconic bands like Earth, Wind, and Fire, Bee Gees, Journey, STYX, contemporary Christian artists, and ALL THE 90’s grunge.
I spent 90 minutes last night, quite literally, bouncing up and down with my 17-year-old teenager to Toby Mac at the Indiana State Fair much to the squeals of joy from my kid! He’s contemporary Christian with a slight, tolerable rapper sound and it manifested in a RAVE for littles and geezers alike and was an absolute BLAST! His music is used a lot in Christian movies and he really rocks a crowd. So. much. energy!!!!!
Fortunately, not too hung up on the sad ballads lately. With the yucko going on in the world – if someone is bringing me down and they are Eeyore melancholy all the dang time – they are getting shown the door. We are too busy living our very best lives. Got no time for the sadz.

These girls are good. Samantha Fish does mostly blues, and has been the blues artist of the year before.
Daniel Nicolle Schnebelen (I think I spelled that right) does mostly blues, was in a band with her two brothers called Trampled Underfoot, and that’s her brother Chris on drums in this song. He passed away recently, sadly.
This is an old Bobby Blue Bland song. I’d like it to have been a bit better recorded, but it’ll do!

Yo, ‘W00 . . . As always, it’s good to hear from you. Know something? I can’t think of anything you’ve written that wasn’t worth reading. It’s always pretty obvious that there’s thought behind the things you say and that is much appreciated.
My wife passed away a year ago this September. In all honesty it’s been rough passage—perhaps the hardest thing is not feeling guilty when I am slowly getting accustomed to not being married. I know that probably sounds odd but we’d been together for 55 years and so “married” was an old, old, taken-for-granted feeling. Fortunately, I have the trusted friendship of a good psychologist
Although for different reasons, we’ve both recognize that we are on the same path, encountering unexpected conundrums and grief almost simultaneously. I don’t think the sense of loss and grief ever really go away. They are a constant that we just have to get used too. Although I’m blessed to have good friends in my ife, I’ve never felt more completely alone than I have over the past year. There are some hurts that can’t be easily touched by others—these we must take care of on our own. We’re doing that. One careful step at a time.
Even though I am unchurched, I have always been a strong believer ‘Woo. I know the Lord is with me, watching over me . . . giving me gentle nudges when I need them. I’m not telling you anything new by saying that in times of need like this, faith really counts.
Do you remember the young Mormon missionaries I wrote about a couple of times? I began inviting them for pie and ice cream at a favorite restaurant. Because we met in faith, we were fortunate to become friends. One of my new friends has completed her missionary adventure and has returned home. She’s going to go to BYU this fall. I’ve encouraged her to become a special education teacher. Having gotten to know her over the past two months I think the has the special empathy necessary to successfully work with special needs kids.

I kidded you about Texas being hell earlier. I know it’s not. Can’t think too often on Texas, else I’ll start missing it. I miss it for the way it was. Not sure I would recognize her now.
“The way it was” is still there in the “Little Town Texas” villages that still populate the state. We have some favorite places in the Hill Country that we like to drive to. We’re not all that far away from those crisp fall mornings that invite driving the Hill Country in a good car. Those we have . . . I was in Austin for lunch with my car buds on Saturday. South Lamar is unrecognizable—looks like a downscale street in LA. Feels that way too. Cheap “lofts” apartments line both sides of the street.

Morning, Bet 🙂 I always liked Shania Twain, especially once I knew about her rise from serious poverty to great celebrity. At age 18, with both parents dead, she took over support of her younger siblings by singing at Canadian resorts. She was badly treated by her then husband Mutt Lange —she obviously trusted the guy so his betrayal cut very deep. Once again, when trust and loyalty aren’t present, relationships fail . . .
None of this I knew, Garrison. So God, knowing what would be her circumstances, gave her the gift of a beautiful voice.
How can we look at it any other way?
Not many 18 year olds would have the maturity to do what she did for her family. It’s one thing to care for siblings, quite another to care for her brothers and sisters and earn a living at the same time. She’s the real deal, I think.
Oh . . . And I’m glad to hear that your HVAC guy is getting your air conditioning fixed. This is not the time to be in a un-airconditioned house.
Thank you…he replaced the thermostat and altered the vents in the back of the house which is always suffocatingly hot. We told him we didn’t want a “smart” one. The one he put in is a push button one. We’re thrilled…up, down, heat, cold, off. Don’t need anything else.
My philosophy is that with any appliance the more functions, settings, and buttons there are the more can (and does) go wrong!
Give me the simplest ones, and I’m happy!!😁👍🏻🤗

Mutt Lange was an idiot. He fooled around with Shania’s best friend!!!! She found out and was humiliated. They all got divorced and Shania ends up a couple years later with the best friend’s husband. They just swapped spouses. So sad and twisted up!!!

I saved that song for the right moment when the dancers were tired….the brinde and groom were about ready to sit down…or the retiree was about to give in to exhaustion…..

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

We havae been under a tornado warning here in MD.
Radar pix shows how ugly it got in past few hours. The wind and rain just passed overhead within the past 30 mins.
Boy, we had an ugly one yesterday. A thunderstorm started moving is as we were heading out to Oxford, Ms. The red alert for severe storm rang on my phone. The wind was nuts then the sheeting downpour began. Had to slow way down on the 4 lane when visibility approached zero.
Thankfully, the storm was going east and we were going west. We were out of it by the time we crossed the county line. Oxford got no storm at all.
We got home late and didn’t see the mess till this morning. We lost a limb from a Bradford pear that snapped and fell across the street. Our wonderful neighbor hooked it to his truck and dragged it off the street then he and another neighbor cut it and stacked for the chipper truck to collect today. No damage from that just a mess of leaves and small branches littering the street and yards. A neighbor behind had a large limb snap off his maple and it’s sitting over where 4 yard’s fences join. Thankfully, the fences can be repaired and there was no building damage. The neighbor said there was hail and the wind had blown in opposite directions at once. Said it was really crazy.
I guess we’re slated for thunderstorms most of this week so I’m keeping prayed up.

Went to family reunion this past weekend.
Has been ongoing for over 100 years.
Only about 130 people showed up.
Smallest number in years.
I have no idea why so small.
We lost two members this year and one was absolutely due to the “vax”.
My goodness, Mycroft!!! To be able to gather that many in one place. Whoever the CEO in charge of arranging was, my hat’s off to him or her.
I am so sorry for your family’s losses. That’s the only thing about getting together as the years go on.

I mentioned the argument going on about if the Hunga-Tonga eruption had caused a significant change in weather. I also said it was beyond my ability to sort out the physics involved but my sense was that the eruption did not have a significant effect on weather or the global temperature.
And here is a post that is understandable to me that indicates that my guess was correct. Though I can’t do the physics I can read graphs and understand data.

Great post RAH. Excellent debunking of the claim by Mr. Eschenbach. His clear explanations of each aspect of the water vapor (vs. altitude) potential effect on warming or cooling over time periods are very comprehendible. The data shown in the graphs are the proof positive that your intuitive sense is correct. I’m on the same page as you regarding the 14 month delay – unless there was another significant unique factor that occurred only last year, that delayed rise in temps in March 2023 has essentially a zero connection to the January 2022 eruption.
Willis is a gem. I always take the time to read his posts. And when you get down to it, that is the key for the layman who seeks the truth. Knowing who to listen to. It takes an investment of time to learn that and to gain a base understanding of the concepts.
Now for Pinatubo eruption, it was a different matter. I knew it had a significant effect on weather and did not need data to make that determination because I observed the effect myself. When the sun is red day after day at high noon in the summer you know that particulates in the atmosphere are causing it. And that was a very cool summer. The UAH confirmed that the effect was not just limited to certain latitudes also.

National Lighthouse Day
As a child growing up in San Diego it was always a special treat to visit the Old Spanish Lighthouse out on the end of Point Loma. To get there the road went through Fort Rosecrans National Cemetary with all those white headstones lining both side, rows upon rows. One side overlooking San Diego Bay the other looking out to sea. Each visit a history lesson.

Actually that cat may be asking to come in and get some food or attention/ affection.
We’ve had several neighbors’ cats drop by for visits for years. They like to get a snack, sometimes take naps on our back deck chairs (awning provides shade from May through October), or just spend a few minutes getting petted and talked to.
Being veteran cat owners, early on we asked around and found which neighbor’s cats they were, so we approached the neighbors and after introducing ourselves and explaining our familiarity with cats, asked if it was OK to give the cats a small snack and/or pet them. Answers were universally yes.
Indoor/Outdoor cats who explore the local neighborhood usually develop a set route they follow everyday. Our house happened to be on these felines’ daily tour, so we gave them a good reason to stop and rest up if they wanted.

Every brand-new human arrives on Earth with natural, fleshly qualities. The natural state of humans is to be concerned with the body and the material world. Infants know nothing except whether or not they are comfortable.
The natural person lives focused only on self without the draw of the Holy Spirit in their life. Those who are not spiritually alive are driven by what satisfies their flesh, such as the gratification of their desire for power or control, achievements, accolades, or acceptance from the world. While they may accomplish some good as they pursue their goals, you can tell they are spiritually asleep due to the self-focused motivation.
On the other hand, the Bible describes a spiritually alive person as acknowledging God and surrendering to His care and will. Even though a believer’s life may appear to be a mess, the essential difference is the focus on seeking to know the Lord better and to walk in His ways. Those who are alive in the Spirit run to God for help!
The Holy Spirit offers discernment, providing understanding to make wise choices. The believer’s life changes, every day reflecting the Creator a bit more.
Pray for leaders, from employers at work to the mayor of your town to those working in American government, to awaken to the truth and knowledge of the Lord. Intercede for those who are in decision-making positions to be drawn into spiritual life, seeking God through His Son Jesus Christ.
