‎7/‎5/‎2023 – How much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Matthew 7:7-12 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say to you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.”

Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets, and stone them which are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not!”

In the context of all the surrounding verses, we are taught specifically of the Lord what are the most common character flaws and deceitful notions, which we must recognize and get the mastery over, if we hope to finish our course as overcomers; or else if we neglect them, they shall be our eternal ruin.

The first warning and exhortation, is to not judge others before first judging ourselves; which if we do, we shall be able to help our brothers, just as God has helped us; or if we don’t, not only will we be unable to see clearly to help others, but we will give occasion to the enemies of the Lord to ridicule and mock and trample our precious and holy things under foot, as then making ourselves open to be torn to pieces as well.

After that are the verses we are considering today, about how willingness to believe cannot be separated from a right understanding of God’s unchangeable goodness: and how that it is again, how we judge and treat others, that God judges and treats us. Willingness for God to help and answer prayers, is effectively measured out again to us the same, as how we do unto others.

From this point the Lord again invites us to come; Ask, seek, knock, Enter In! Why? because the old “easy” way, that everyone else takes, is the way to disaster and loss, and not the way to life; both in this world, and the one to come. And adjoining this point must be the warning to take heed and beware of false prophets, wolves in sheep’s clothing. And then, how that many will be seduced and misled by those kinds of spirits; still thinking they can have the world, and bear no good fruit, AND yet enter the kingdom of God! But many will find out too late that which is written, “Fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites;” and they will be horrified to hear Jesus tell them, I never knew you; depart from Me you lawless and perverse, into everlasting fire of the outer darkness.

So then, in the context of all that is said; how do we read these verses? The goodness and truth of the LORD is the same for ever; His kindness and righteousness are inseparable. He has all things ready and prepared for us to come and receive His salvation and recovery into His Presence. All things that we will need for this life, and the supply of His Spirit for sanctifying us against that day, He has provided abundantly in His Son Jesus Christ. All that we are able to know, and need to know, of God and His thoughts and doings towards us, He has held nothing back that would be profitable for us.

But there is the reality of our damaged conscience, and the effects of the poison from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The Lord does not come to condemn us for being in this condition; but He gives us to know, that our Father in heaven loves us better than we can even know how; and He offers us that which He absolutely gives to us. He doesn’t offer, and then not give; neither does He say and then not do.

But again, why did Jesus put it like that, saying, If you being evil know how to give good things to your children; and, Will you give your son a stone instead of a piece of bread? Will you give a snake to your child instead of a piece of fish to eat? Why do you then think that God would do that to you? Why are you so ready to listen to the suggestion, that He has some hidden motive; or that He tells you to trust Him, and then turn around and take the contradicting actions?

Many really believe that they are being godly and submissive, while they are thinking that He has some “higher purpose” in giving them a stone, or a serpent, if they ask for something good. Their pastors and teachers have taught them this kind of false humility; I believe, because they themselves don’t know what it is they’re doing. They say that they are surrendering to God’s will; but what they are really doing, is stage-playing and lip-service, and putting forth a misleading image, for concealing their true nature, character, and behavior, of unbelief, and an unholy life.

All the so-called struggling, is really their own insubordination and wicked thoughts, that they are somehow more kind and more merciful than God; and that their hostility and resentment is justified, because they would never do those things to their children! They use this theme very often, and very aggressively in their so-called Christian, and faith-based movies. The hardness and hatred towards God, and completely unafraid to blaspheme; is seldom worse than in the characters in their stories. Someone for example, loses a child, or spouse, in some horrific tragedy (as if that’s what happens to everyone indiscriminately, Christian or not); and so they have that person “angry at God, and not speaking to Him” and holding a grudge for many years. And they truly believe that they are conveying a gospel message to people! 

But who really are they “ministering” to? Their stories and themes, just like much of the teaching in their churches, have absolutely nothing to do with the words of Jesus, and the entire message from God in the Bible. But the Lord said, that such “thoughts of men” are of Satan, and are opposed to, and contradict the things of God. Yet they give a platform for the slanderer and the adversary of God to freely open his wicked mouth; thinking that they are “ministering” to some common struggle with many Christians. But what they are in fact doing, is poisoning minds against God, and corrupting their conscience. Instead of giving them the true word of God, that would save them from their sins, and set them free; they portray an evil attitude, of being God’s sworn enemy, as a normal and accepted thing. 

Philippians 3:18-19 “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.”

If we however follow the Scriptures, and follow the line of thought in its proper context; then it is clear, that the Lord is giving us instruction how to recognize and avoid these evil things; so that we might be blessed, and be a blessing to others. He wants us to see clearly to help our brother get the mote out of his eye. He wants us first be all clean and good ourselves, and not be a hypocrite. He does not want us to be ignorant or disrespectful of the precious and holy things he has entrusted to us; and He doesn’t want us to bring scandal upon His Name, and ourselves be torn in the process. He wants us to have discernment, and not be misled. He wants us to come to the Doors of heaven, and immediately be let into the kingdom. He wants us not to fall during the tribulations and temptations that are ordained a part of this life. He wants us to know how much He loves us, and how much the Father loves us, and that God cannot do anything but good for us, when we believe Him. So there are things we have to learn, and things we have to work out; first in ourselves, and then share what we’ve received from the Lord with our Brethren.

God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  – Philippians 4:19

NASA has studied what will be necessary to sustain human life on the moon or on Mars. The agency stated, “Human beings have certain basic needs. We must have food, water, air, and shelter to survive. If any of these basic needs is not met, then humans cannot survive.“ They have discovered how to meet these needs for astronauts aboard the International Space Station in Earth orbit. In the process, they have discovered many other needs as well. There is a need for human attachment, the security of consistency, the need to avoid pain and secure pleasure, and the need for a sense of one’s self. 

In creation, God put all of these needs into humankind, not just the physical needs, but the emotional-social needs. In addition, He established spiritual hunger in each soul. As Psalm 42:2 states, “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”  
What is it that you need today? Be it physical, emotional, or spiritual, God’s promise is to provide for all of them, not just a few, from the storehouse of His more than ample supply. He discerns your wants from your needs but He often supplies those desires as well. Pray today for legislators across the country and particularly in Washington to put the needs of the people they govern ahead of their wants and for God’s wisdom to know the difference.
