I must say that many of the works of others there do not look like those of beginners. I am not “arty ” myself but it is fascinating to me to see efforts from those who have been given the gift.

Hi Betsy, I’ll be sure to check that out. I am primarily an engineer/craftsman, secondly a musician and behind that a lover of visual arts. I love the bench pictures and all the pics posted here. But mostly I love the fact that you all seem to understand and help me understand that music needs singing and pictures need people. At the very least instrumental music must be intensely lyrical and paintings must be tied to our lives.
I understand that absolutely, If. I’d be lost without music. If I say it feeds my soul, I know you’d understand. Here’s one to be going on with. I first heard this when we were living in the UK. Though N and NW Texas get a bit of a break from the heat today, it is only temporary as S and E Texas continue to burn. All indications are that the heat dome is going to stick around through July. I know how it gets there having been stationed down at Ft. Sam for a couple years and having sat in Truck Stops where it was hitting 121 deg. F out on the asphalt, but when I was down there we NEVER had the threat of brown outs or blackouts.
Mark my words. That same high pressure hanging over the state that allows the heat also tends to slow or stop the winds, and so there will be times when wind generation drops to nearly zero. And that is when the threat of grid collapse increases.
The state government has had plenty of time to address the problem, but has failed to do so.

NOAA predicting heavy rain again today for my zip code. Actually going to be cooler (62) at midday than it is right now with winds.
I use the Myradar app and have since I drove trucks as it follows your location and gives a very accurate cloud cover radar. You can actually see when the leading edge of a thunderstorm or snow squall will hit you. It has a free with ads version. It also has alerts which will set off your cell. This is a very useful tool for travelers. The top bar can be pulled down for a 5 day forecast.
For Indianapolis today the predict is dry, east winds up to 15mph and high if 85 humidity 69%.
Had the stump of a dead branch on my big cotton wood come down in the wind yesterday. Crack, boom, flop. Not so big that I will have to cut it to move it, but I will bring out the chain saw and cut it for fire wood.
I have to move all the wood in the lean-to on the back of my garage to one side soon. It will all be perfectly cured for the insert come winter. Steve is taking down two locust trees along the north border of the back field this summer. When he does he’ll cut it into lengths appropriate for my insert, I’ll be right there with him splitting the pieces with the gas powered hydraulic splitter as he cuts them and chucking it into the bed of my pickup. When we have a full load we’ll stack it in the other side of the lean-too to cure and I’ll have enough cured wood for winter after next, plus some. Can’t get more efficient than that. Minimum handling of the wood.
Locust firewood is good stuff. Tough on a saw if its not green. I need to get busy on a few downed trees myself but working mostly inside this week while it rains. Cleaning, straightening up and organizing never ends.

One of their selling points is that a solar installation “will pay for itself” in 25-30 years…whereupon, Chris eyeballs him and points out his age and assures them that 25-30 years is not on the cards for us.
The look from them that follows is of the deer in headlights variety. And his statement is one they have no comeback for. Other than that, they are all apparently indoctrinated in the art of badgering. But in the end, there is no answer they have for that…
…case closed…as is the door which sees them on their way.
You can mention to Chris about the degradation of the solar cells themselves over the 25 to 30 years.
The industry standard estimate is 20% loss in efficiency over 25 years and it can be worse than that.

If I had to bet, my bet would be that those on the Ocean Gate submersible are already gone and have been since Sunday when communication was lost. I just look at it as an experimental craft. What did people consider the Wright Bros aircraft in the early days of their development? Navigation fascinates me.
Developing accurate time pieces was critical to determining position using a sextant for star sightings, charts and the combination could give you a very accurate fix on your location on the globe. Ships chronometers were developed to keep track of time and were constantly being improved upon up until very accurate digital quartz timepieces were developed.
Today the Naval Observatory provides wwv broadcasts which is UTC and is in zulu or Greenich Mean time. Radio stations and the GPS utilize this time. If you didn’t know GPS is based on very accurate time measurements from multiple satellite signals which gives you your position.
Back in the day ships needed a way to check their chronometers (clocks) for accuracy. This little device helped them if they were near a major European port. Set off by the sun it fired at precisely 1200 noon for that location and could be heard by nearby ships. It is a sundial noon day cannon. Some ships even carried one aboard for their own fleets use and so long as the sun dial could be oriented for true north they would fire at noon also.
(note 1: UTC is the time distributed by standard radio stations that broadcast time, such as WWV and WWVH. It can also be obtained readily from the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. The difference between UTC and UT1 is made available electronically and broadcast so that navigators can obtain UT1. UTC is the basis for civil standard time in the U.S. and its territories. Standard time within U.S. time zones is an integral number of hours offset from UTC.)
Did you know that satellite clocks have to be corrected for relativity or GPS would not work. And that both special relativity (time slows when moving fast) and general relativity (time slows in a gravity well) need to be taken into account.
The first slows the satelite clocks by 7 microseconds per day. The second speeds them up by 45 microseconds per day. In net, the satelite clock is 38 microseconds faster. But the system requires accuracy to nanoseconds. So precise corrections are required for GPS to work.

(Almost all?) precise man made systems have to be calibrated and corrected don’t they?
I did know that UTC has to be corrected to actual earth time UT1. The beauty of the little signal gun was that since it was sun dial based it reported UT1 and it reported the actual time within the time zone whereas we today ignore the difference in time between the eastern edge of a time zone versus the western edge.
If you set up a sundial correctly it can potentially give the exact standard time within a zone depending upon its scale. (probably down to minutes if large enough sundial)
Given the time period.. I’m always fascinated by technology..there always seem to be someone who comes up with instrument to solve , in the case navigation, problem..🤔

When some people realize the extent of God’s holiness, they want to run and hide. They are like the man in the Lord’s parable of the talents, who said, “Master, I knew you to be a hard man… so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground” (Matthew 25:24). The master rebuked him for not being wise and at least putting the talent in a bank to receive interest.
When you look at God only as an exacting and holy God, you may be tempted to hide what He has given you. This could be your talents, time, or resources. You need to remember that God is a loving, merciful, and forgiving God. He has given you many things. He wants you to step out and use them in practical ways to love Him and love others, which are His two great commandments (Matthew 22:36-40).
Consider what the Lord has given you and ask him to lead you in using it for His glory. Meditate on how much He loves you and forgives you. When you mess up, run to Him instead of hiding. He is the only one who can fix and restore what is broken in your life.
Be bold. Step out and do that thing He is asking you to do. Trust in His love and forgiveness as well as His justice and holiness. Pray for believers in the United States to submit their gifts, resources, and their will to the Lord’s will. Ask that eyes be opened to God’s grace and mercy as well as His righteousness.

Good morning, dear duchess…
My younger daughter is following very closely a family by the name of Fults. She reposts their story on her FB. It is unclear to me if she knows them personally, but I believe she does.
In Hamlet, Claudius says, “When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions.”
This is certainly true for this sweet family. One of their children is recovering from cancer. And suddenly it was discovered that her mom, Devon, had a massive brain tumour. As of today, most has been removed, but there was some that was difficult to get to so remains. The road ahead for this family is unsure.
But their faith in Almighty God and his mercies and love is rock solid and has in fact grown with each passing day through this terrible journey.
This is a small part of a long FB post Devon made following her surgery which I wanted to share with my friends here…
“Bottom line is, I just don’t know y’all! I don’t know why or how or why us? I also don’t know why not us? I’ve asked all the hard questions to my God because I know He can handle it. These questions have all crept up in quiet moments and in vulnerable conversations with people we trust. And the bottom line is, we just don’t know.
We are so thankful God isn’t defined by our circumstances. We are so thankful we can go off what we KNOW instead of what we feel. What we know to be true is…He is GOOD, and His plan is good! Even when His plan leaves room for two sick kids and a tired mom and a brain tumor. We will continue to lean into what we know instead of what we feel.
We KNOW He is good, and kind, and able. We feel exhausted, tired, fearful, and overwhelmed. We are thankful we know He is with us in this deep and dark place and we know we are LOVED way more than we deserve. We cannot thank you enough for the prayers and support. Please keep praying for our family!”
Here in the face of terrible trials is faith…and trust…and gratitude for the blessings which this lovely family have received so far and flow to them daily.
Her tumor at least is benign. And so I will give thanks for His inestimable grace given to this family. He is good, He is merciful. Never more so than when things seem their darkest. Lord, continue please to make your presence known and felt by the Fults family who have much to teach us all. They are testament to your goodness and love which is present and eternal. Amen.🙏🏻💕

A good friend once told me – no matter what hardships you are facing – there is always someone who is suffering more – and remains standing – so we must never be discouraged…
God does not give us more than we can handle – and the more we handle – the greater our FAITH becomes !!!
The tests and trials are difficult to fathom at times – but what God has brought you to – He will see you through !!!

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
