I was just remembering one of the best movies of all time “The Train”. Burt Lancaster who at first was dismissive of the French underground attempts to save the precious art treasures of France which the Nazi Paul Scofield was stripping and transporting to Germany. Even the inhuman, murderous Scofield understood in part that beauty was something to be preserved…and something Lancaster came to know as well. A truly magnificent film .

One of my favorite scenes from this movie is of Lancaster pouring babbitt material for locomotive bearings. This looked like the real thing which implies that Lancaster had some practical foundry experience. I think I read someplace he had worked in a foundry at some point. Didn’t look at all fakey.

I think you’re right about his stunts. But pouring molten babbitt required a lot of skill. Maybe someone could have shown him how to do it but, if it was me, I sure wouldn’t try something like that without a lot of careful protective prep. That was just him acting like he did that kind of stuff all the time. I think he had some foundry experience. 🙂

Good morning Treepers. We are getting heavy thunderstorms right now in my area. High winds,speeds up to 124 mph recorded near Tulsa, OK. a little while ago. There’s probably going to be some wind damage around Tulsa, Stillwater, and possibly Edmond. My area was hit by high winds, but the storm passed. Until now. It’s picked up again. Lots of rain and lightning. Thunder’s booming. This might keep going for a couple of more hours.

As promised the disturbance in the eastern Atlantic is strengthening. It will become a Tropical Storm and possibly minor Hurricane. But not to worry. Conditions in the western Atlantic as it approaches the Caribbean will knock it down. There is strong easterly sheer that will almost certainly blow the top right off the thing and turn it back into a cell of thunderstorms before it gets close to any mainland or major island.
It’s only hope for survival would be if it tracks due west from its current position around the 10 deg, N. line into S. America thus avoiding the deadly sheer. Tropical cyclones don’t survive within 5 deg. of the equator due to the lack of Coriolis effect, which they require to form and survive. No Tropical Cyclone has ever survived crossing the equator.
It’s all about the spin. Interesting about Coriolis effect, never heard that.

Good Morning Monticello. 15-20 years ago I had never heard of the Coriolis effect either. And I sure as heck didn’t learn about it by watching weather reports or the weather channel.
I had two career fields in the USAF and also was in IG and a Det Chief for a Spacecom site.
1st career was in shop electronics repair for F-111 aircraft. The Coriolis effect has to be taken into account for the inertial reference system which uses gyros and accelerometers to do what is effectively “dead reckoning” navigation.
(Inertial sensors sense motion in an inertial frame. While accelerometers and gyros will sense motion in the local frame, they also sense earth motion. Coriolis force is a cross product of the two, sensed by the sensors.)
You start from Nellis AFB and return to Nellis AFB but the base and you and the aircraft are in a different location in space due to the movement of the earth during the flight.
Therefore the inertial reference system has to use an external reference point which is most often the north pole (true one). There even has to be an allowance for polar flights otherwise the system would attempt unattainable physical gymnastics.
Long range ballistics has to calculate for the movement of the earth during time of flight of the projectile.
Never heard about Coriolis effecting typhoons but it is so obvious once you mention it.

My son Rob and his wife flew Allegiance down to Florida for vacation yesterday. He says “NEVER AGAIN”. Cheap is cheap. They will be visiting Niki while there for a couple days. It was best for me to step aside and let Rob buck up Niki’s attitude and it has worked.
She is still thin as a stick at 104 lb. but her attitude is much better and she is eating. They cut down on the strength of her Chemo treatments and a couple days after a Chemo session she goes in to be rehydrated. Now she feels well enough to eat real food for a few days before her next chemo.
This is good news, rah. Baby steps lead to bigger ones. I’m sure each minute of each day seems for her to be an eternity on this unwelcome journey. And I’m sure as her dad for you to have to watch this from afar is gut wrenching. We maintain your whole family in prayer that each day for Niki is better than the day before until she is returned by the mercy and grace of Almighty God to full good health once more.🙏🏻💕

God has given believers two important and similar, but distinct, gifts to use when they sin. 1 John 1:9 instructs, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confessing is when you agree with God about the wrong you have done. When you do, you are forgiven, and your slate is wiped clean once again.

Confess and repent, God forgives and He restores, giving you glimpses of the depths of His love, His justice, His righteousness, and His glory.
Intercede for the nation as Americans have accepted sin in so many areas, and for the governing officials who are guiding the people down wrong paths. Pray that they might recognize their wrongdoing as against the nature of God, confess with broken hearts, commit to changing their ways, and experience God in the fullness of forgiveness and love.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

“And Peter…walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid.” Matthew xiv. 29-30
The wind was actually boisterous, the waves were actually high, but Peter did not see them at first. He did not reckon with them, he simply recognized his Lord and stepped out in recognition of Him, and walked on the water. Then he began to reckon with the actual things, and down he went instantly. Why could not our Lord have enabled him to walk at the bottom of the waves as well as on the top of them? Neither could be done saving by recognition of the Lord Jesus.
We step right out on God over some things, then self-consideration enters in and down we go. If you are recognizing your Lord, you have no business with where He engineers your circumstances. The actual things ARE, but immediately you look at them you are overwhelmed, you cannot recognize Jesus, and the rebuke comes: “Wherefore didst thou doubt?” Let actual circumstances be what they may, keep recognizing Jesus, maintain complete reliance on Him.
If you debate for a second when God has spoken, it is all up. Never begin to say – “Well, I wonder if He did speak?” Be reckless immediately, fling it all out on Him. You do not know when His voice will come, but whenever the realization of God comes in the faintest way imaginable, recklessly abandon. It is only by abandon that you recognize Him. You will only realize His voice more clearly by recklessness.

Concerning this hurricane season. Joe Bastardi believes that the first half of the season will be very active. Active like the height of the season is. Says he really can’t see how the east coast is going to miss getting hit this season with the prevailing conditions.
Then about mid season, during the normal height of the season, he expects it to practically shut down due to the strengthening El Nino.
One piece of good news is that the MJO (Madden Julian Oscillation) forecasts indicate that very little time will be spent in sectors 2 and 3 which are the most conducive for the formation of powerful storms.

Oh, My. MO – where to start – hope you had a fun breakfast with the kids !!!
You must be somewhere in the. south with creeks, marshes, and farmland – and loads of unusual flowers including magnolias – a Cajun neighbor – and a big ole lake – can see why there are all sorts of critters here, there, and everywhere – not sure about snakes, tho’. – a virtual paradise where you are !!!
We had rain for 3 days – and Thank God – because the grass was turning brown – and just like God. – the rain subsided – and roses of every color and hue were blooming along with my two peony bushes that flank my cedar shed entrance – Wow !!!
But…but…but – since I was rained in – did some research on the Moody Blues you like so much – what a find !!! They have been through many changes – in the makeup of the group – but I have to say – when they first started in ’68 – they were absolutely hideous sounding !!!
About 15 years ago, they appeared in Red Rock Colorado with a symphony orchestra – a phenomenal show – all of their major hits – beautiful venue – have seen other concerts there – huge audience – collected those videos – and discovered the one with the best voice is not the lead singer, Justin – it is Ray Thomas – he passed in 2018 right before they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – Ray played the Flute, Tamborine, and had a beautiful voice.
It was a fun journey into the past – however – I understand – like the Beatles – they went through a psychedelic phase – some of the videos you posted depicted that aspect of their music – call me square – but I loved their Red Rock Concert – not only did they have fun – but the audience was enthusiastic and engaged – singing along and absolutely enthused !!!
OK – I be quiet now before I write a book !!! You have to understand we are spoiled here – so we get stampy-footed – and scream in our purses or pants when someone is missing !!!
