Here at my central Indiana home we had a slow soaker from about 09:30 through the rest of the day. We needed it. It had gotten dry enough that I have been holding off burning the sticks and cardboard in my fire pit. So everything got a good watering including the crops which are at that critical stage where a good rain can have a significant impact on yield. But we could use another inch or more of rain this week to get back up to where we should be this time of year. Just brought Buckley in from doing his business and the deck is still wet with a bit of a breeze. Temp 56 deg. Wind is supposed to pick up today to 20 mph with gusts to 30.
Another side benefit of the rain is that it cleared the air of the smoke from the fires up in Canada and so today for the first time in a week or more there will be no air quality alert here. Humidity at 95% but the forecast high this mostly to partly cloudy day is only 66 deg. And so with the wind it is going to feel quite cool for an early summer day.
The fact is that relative to averages, the last three months have been cooler than normal for the majority of the US, though you wouldn’t know it according to the hype on “the news”. Canada on the other hand has been much warmer than normal during the last couple months and where it has been warmest relative to averages in the US is the upper plains and NW US where to warm air over Canada has dipped down across the border.

Co-author of the bill Senator Caroline Menjivar (D) said the bill “will ensure that queer couples no longer have to pay more out of pocket to start families than non-queer families.”
California Bill SB 729 seeks to redefine “infertility” to be a status, as opposed to a medical condition. Changing the definition to “a person’s inability to reproduce either as an individual or with their partner without medical intervention” would classify gay men as infertile.
The bill, which passed the Senate last month, would require insurance companies to cover in-vitro fertilization procedures. With the change in definition, this would also include forcing the firms to cover surrogacy for gay males.
“This bill is critical to achieving full-lived equality for LGBTQ+ people, as well as advancing well-rounded and comprehensive health care for all Californians.”
An organization called Men Having Babies boasted that the bill will “remove financial barriers” for gay men who wish to rent a woman’s womb to have a child who has the DNA of one of the males in the relationship.

We had some good rain last night, what I call a soaking rain. Not too hard so that it runs off the impacted soil into the gutter. Just steady, and long enough to get well into the ground.
Looks like the summer heat which hasn’t hit us yet starts in earnest on Friday, triple digits. So as we keep our inside temp in the mid to high 80s, I need to start planning meals that require little or no actual time with the stove or oven. Cold cuts, fresh fruit, soups and sandwiches…I better crack on then…be well, my friend.😘
I grilled some bacon on my barbecuer last night instead of using the stove. It does get hot in the kitchen when baking or frying stuff with the stove.
Right now the window AC unit is turned off, just a fan running next to the table where I’m sitting. It’s not even officially summer yet; already looking forward to fall season.
Lots of doom and gloom on other web sites; this site is truly a refuge from all of it. When I take a break, I do miss all of you wonderful people who post here.
So, back again.

After I wrote my weather post this morning and ate something I went back to bed. Sherry was sleeping on her right side. Buckley jumped up and curled up by her butt. I lifted Geisha up and she went and laid down by Buckley. I got in and then Gabby the cat jumped up and walked up my body and gave me the stare. Seeing that my arms were under the covers and that she wasn’t going to get any pets, she went and laid down with her upper portion of on my left thigh.
Hours later Sherry got up and so did all the animals. I attempted to sleep in. Buckley, as usual was having none of it. Every few minutes he was up on the bed in my face. And so it goes.

Well, I’m up again after catching a few hours of sleep. Drinking some black coffee (only way I drink it nowadays) and listening to faint sounds of thunder rumbling off in the distance. Looks like more rain on the way. Something about thunderstorms and rain that puts me to sleep.
Good thing the lawns were mowed yesterday. The front yard didn’t really need it, but the grass in the back yard grows fast. Both were done along with a pass through the side yard.
House cleaning has stepped up due to the big dogs being kept inside until I take them out on leashes to do their business. One side of the backyard still needs to have a fence replaced after the tornado. This time it will be a chain link fence rather than a wood picket fence.
Sounds like you have full occupancy when you go to sleep. Same situation here.
I routinely check out a couple of earthquake watch sites and I’ll leave a window open to one of the sites in case there’s a major event. No way to predict when or where a big one will strike, all we can do is watch.
Okay, coffee re-fill; who knows, I might be able to stay awake for a while. Cold beer in the fridge (Sam Adams) for later this afternoon.
