This picture is so interesting to me. My husband and I were driving across the US on I 10 when we saw a jackrabbit for the first time! I was amazed at how tall they were, because we just have little cottontails around our house.

1530, love reading your posts. They are so inspirational. I am bible illiterate and I have an issue for you. In today’s passage a “boat” is mentioned but in my KJV, it says “ship”. And all through the KJV, I can’t recall “boat” being used, it is always “ship”. And when I think of the term “fishermen” back then and nets, I picture a “ship” and not a “boat”.
To me, the newer translations of the bible are too much of this “world” and at times changing the actual “word” of GOD. What say you?

Well, first, I’m no bible scholar. I’m just a sheep.
I know what you mean about worship aids seeming to be “worldly.” I’m way more aware of that for music than for bible translations, so long as they are accurate. But I get your point. The WEB translation, which I often use, sounds more casual than some others — for one thing because it uses so many contractions. For some reason, when it is describing what went on between and around Jesus Christ and the disciples, or conveying their preaching, the lack of formality doesn’t bother me. Maybe that’s just me. On the other hand, the KJV has a lot of meanings that are no longer common, as in, “Suffer the little children… .” But … the KJV is just so beautiful in some places.
My Pastor, a wise and learned man, I think, has told us there is no perfect bible translation. He encourages us to compare versions and bring him questions as they arise. When this happens, he goes to the original Greek or Hebrew and makes an effort to explain the possible meanings and suggest the best — always in the context of the clear, major testimony of the bible.
I’ll send your boat / ship question to him and put a note to you in one of my posts when he answers. It may take a while, as he is on a well-earned vacation right now.
Beginning early in this century, my denomination standardized on the English Standard Version (ESV) for its hymnals, readings, and instruction. I don’t think it is necessarily because they thought it is the very, very best in all parts, but more that they though it was good and also one of the least problematic.
In my church, we are not told we have to use a particular version for private study and devotions. We are expected to regard scripture as inerrant and sufficient for communicating everything God wants us to know. So accuracy is important. We are strongly cautioned against reading more into the text than is actually there. And we are advised to be very leery of versions that are woke (as in refusing to refer to God as “Him,” or refusing to refer to Mary as a virgin).
For posting bible verses here, I use either the King James version or, more often, the World English Bible (WEB). They are the only two published versions I know of that have no copyright restrictions at all. I use the KJV for familiar passages that sound so beautiful, majestic, and comforting to us, like Psalm 23 and many other psalms. More often, I use the WEB for understandability — especially in the New Testament.
I often compare the King James, ESV, and WEB versions for a particular passage that I post. No sticking points so far for this sheep.
Like I said, I’ll let you know what my pastor says about boats and ships.

1530 thank you for the reply. When you send the “boat” vs “Ship” note to your pastor please ask him about this one you might find interesting also:
KJV—Matthew 5 :22 Jesus saying, “But I say unto you. That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement:……….”
The three words “without a cause” is only found in the KJV Matthew version. Those 3 words have been omitted in just about all other bible revisions except NJKV that I am aware of. Without those 3 words, Matthew 5-22 has an all together different meaning in my opinion.
We are definitely in a spiritual war.
Good: “I didn’t know we were in a war.”

This week I had a particularly interesting and uplifting experience. Walking in our neighborhood, I encountered 3 20-somethning young women who were walking our neighborhood as a way of spreading the message of Our Lord Jesus. They were Mornmans who were on their traditional “mission”.
Frankly, they reminded me of so many of my students who, over the years, had related to me the significance of their similar “missions”. Talking to them was an absolute delight. I of course explained that I was a strong believer but, by choice, I wasn’t churched. I explained that I wasn’t anti-church, this was simply a choice I’d made many years ago . . . They were perfectly OK with that—we agreed that there were many pathways to finding the Truth Of Jesus.
Our pleasant conversation ended and I gave them my card with an invitation to meet at a nearby restaurant for pie and coffee.
Well, a couple of days ago, I got a text message. They wanted to meet again. So, we met for some afternoon pie and conversation . . . I found these 3 beautiful young women to be completely fascinating. I told them that my student’s who described their “missions” experience to me all had experienced one of life.s great adventures. So I was excited that they would have similar experiences.
Talking over some great apple pie with the wonderful, smart, attractive, and devoutly religious young women was a truly uplifting experience. We all parted as friends with the promise that we’d meet again. In an answering text message, told them that with people like them in the world there was hope for future. Thinking about this, I realized that this is what belief is all about. Bless them and Bless us! 🙂

Got my hands in the dirt, as well. No weeds to pull living in an apartment, but put out some pretty flower pots and hoping they take. Was talking to a neighbor, whose husband is from Texas, and was mentioning the ex-hubs was from Marshall, just outside of Tyler. I later unwrapped a Peace Rose that I’m going to try to grow in a big clay pot. Where was it from? Tyler, Texas. LOL
Also, the Lord sent me a FROG to play with. He was the cutest little guy. I picked him up and put him on down closer to the lakeside where he will avoid the landscapers coming this week to spray herbicide in the rock beds. I LOVE FROGS. Hope he gives us a little serenade some summer nights.

Apple pie is the best, especially with different varieties of apples. I make one that is an Upside Down Apple Pie – with pecan halves lining the pie plate first, brown sugar, a bit of sea salt, and then the pastry crust. Once baked… you flip it over… and it becomes like a pecan sticky bun. Mmmmmm….
Oh YUMMY, JWoo-Hoo. Sounds full of calories, but who cares??!!! Love pecans. And brown sugar. And pastry. And….
I like to use crisper apples such as Gala because I want an al dente apple, not apple sauce pie. Oh, and plenty of butter in mine as well.

I lived in a neighborhood decades ago, where I experienced that quite often.
Many were coming to my house on their missions to discuss with me what they believe. They all were wonderful people, devout, and we had fun visits: Moonies, Jehovah Witness, 7 Day Adventists and especially the Mormons.
They would knock on my door, and would invite them into my home. They wanted to talk about their religion/beliefs, but I would try to do the same. I remember pairs of ladies came several times to my home one pair from Jehovah Witness, the other Mormons. Afterwards each sent another group of about 8-10 women. The ladies’ group from the Mormon church then visited 3-4 more times.
We disagreed on a few topics that we discussed: Their views are different on Jesus Christ, and they add the Book of Mormon to the Bible. On my way back to Jesus, I went through many religions, that talk about who Jesus is. I went back to the Bible to see what Jesus actually said about Himself, and Jesus asked His disciples: “Who do you say I am?
I carefully explained that I am unchurched but not at all anti-church as so many people are. I also explained that my relationship with Christ is very direct—I speak with Him as I would speak to my father. They were perfectly ok with this. We agreed that there are many different pathways to use when searching for and then finding Jesus. We are now friends. I’ll see them again this coming week. 🙂

Our Lord refers not to a cost we have to count, but to a cost which He has counted. The cost was those thirty years in Nazareth, those three years of popularity, scandal and hatred, the deep unfathomable agony in Gethsamane, and the onslaught at Calvary – the pivot upon which the whole of Time and Eternity turns. Jesus Christ has counted the cost. Men are not going to laugh at Him at last and say – “This man began to build, and was not able to finish.”
The conditions of discipleship laid down by Our Lord in vv. 26, 27 and 33 mean that the men and women He is going to use in His mighty building enterprises are those in whom He has done everything. “If any man come to Me, and hate not…, HE CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE.” Our Lord implies that the only men and women He will use in His building enterprises are those who love Him personally, passionately and devotedly beyond any of the closest ties on earth. The conditions are stern, but they are glorious.
All that we build is going to be inspected by God. Is God going to detect in His searching fire that we have built on the foundation of Jesus some enterprise of our own? These are days of tremendous enterprises, days when we are trying to work for God, and therein is the snare. Profoundly speaking, we can never work for God. Jesus takes us over for HIS enterprises, HIS building schemes entirely, and no soul has any right to claim where he shall be put.

A while ago Sundance asked what things in life we are trying to improve on.
We were at a Bible study and a person said that he is trying to live by this motto: “I will be lazy for tomorrow!”
He meant that he wanted to do any work that needed to be done immediately, so that he wouldn’t have to do it tomorrow!
I’m trying to live it out. Yesterday I was up at 4:00 and wanted to get out turkey hunting pre-dawn. I absolutely enjoyed every minute of my hunt and bagged a large Tom by about 8:30 in the morning. I don’t waste any of the meat. I pluck the entire bird and then we cook it just like a turkey from the store. Took a while.
After that it would have been very nice to enjoy the first sunny warm day in a very long time by not doing much. But I thought of my friend’s motto.
I can’t get the loader tractor out in the pasture to feed cows because of the spring mud. I have been meaning to cut a hole in the barn so I can roll bales right out into the pasture. I jumped into the car with my daughter and we went to buy the materials. It took the better part of the afternoon, but I’m proud of the finished product.
After that I had to pitch all the wet packed down hay out of the feeder by hand and roll the bale feeder to under the barn by hand. A brutally muddy and heavy job.
Results though are very promising.
Now it is Sunday morning and I can enjoy a cup of coffee before church without the stress of feeding cows.

Great motto and I’ll go one step further to say stress- reducing… as we all know something else can pop up, so if we procrastinate… the added pressure causes stress.
Early morning rising is my favorite, as I feel I get so much done.

Before I retired my motto was if there’s a job to be done no one is going to come in and do it so it better get done earlier rather than later. It has helped me very often do an 8 hour work day in 5 hours.

Today’s verse sounds reasonable, but Eliphaz got in trouble with God over it. Eliphaz falsely accused Job of many wrong-doings and urged him to repent. Job had found such favor with God that God allowed Satan to test him. Job went through severe trials and was faithful. The Lord did restore all that had been taken from Job.
If you set your heart to be in agreement with God, will peace and prosperity come to you? God desires you to walk in peace with Him. This is why He offered the blood of His Son to pay for your sins. While God is always good, in this life there is affliction. Paul went through a long list of trials and troubles as a servant of God. Believers often rely on Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me,” for encouragement and motivation.
However, Paul stated that whether he was well-fed or hungry, he had learned to be content. Paul also said, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Be at peace with God in Christ and be thankful for what He has given you. Thank the Lord for meeting your needs and trust Him to continue doing so. Pray that citizens and government officials in the United States who struggle both spiritually and physically would come to know the peace of God.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

For those interested in how this was made, it’s from a home made drone or cinewhoop. These guys have pioneered a whole new industry of make and program your own drone and it’s turning into an artform. There are now companies that sell parts and inexpensive DIY kits to get you started on the basics. There are a ton of videos online showing builds and how to with almost limitless potential. As these motors are getting more refined and powerful the idea of personal quads or ‘electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft’ are just getting off the ground. jetson one and air one being two examples of actual products (if you have the dough and a bit of a death wish).

This…and the one above…reminded me suddenly of my first born when she was studying in Spain for a short while and then joined with two others to have a little look-see at the rest of Europe, something she wouldn’t dare do these days.
Her favourite movie at the time was Sound of Music, and so she dutifully entertained her travelling companions (and anyone else within earshot) with renditions of every song from that movie.
Fortunately, she has a beautiful voice so in spite of repeated performances across the continent, no one complained. She told me that for authenticity, she threw in all the appropriate movements to go with the singing. Especially effective were the ones which accompanied “The Hills Are Alive…” which she saved for when she eventually reached Austria😉
She ended up in Copenhagen, where she was able to meet her grandparents and two of their close friends when they docked on their planned cruise…for just a quick hello and lunch she thought
But her grandfather had, unbeknownst to her, paid for her passage for the three days back to port in Britain through the ship’s corporate offices after the voyage started.
All my daughter had with her were her backpacking clothes which were entirely unsuitable for dinner (which required cocktail attire). But as luck would have it, her grandparents’ friend, a very glamorous and stylish woman even in her 70s, and my daughter were the same size. This wonderful woman generously shared her ample collection of appropriate apparel with my daughter for the three nights they were together.
They all had the time of their lives. Thanks, dear molonlab, for your inadvertent rekindling of a memory which, even though I wasn’t there, I lived vicariously through my daughter’s entertaining stories of her adventure.💕

Good afternoon, Treepers. High winds caused a tree to take out a power line last night behind my house. No power until about 10 minutes ago. Others were affected by the loss of power on my street. Utility workers cut down more tree limbs and actually cleared the brush out of my backyard. I now have a nice stack of freshly cut logs which could make good firewood along with the stuff I’ve already collected. Just in case.

Oh golly, Joe! The winds here have been extremely high, but not enough to do that to our trees. I suppose after the storms which brought so much damage to you and others, it wouldn’t take much to do even more.
