When I called the surgeon’s office to confirm I got the answering service. They told me that the office is closed until Monday. I had told the scheduling lady initially this morning that I’d like to push it later in May since I had that event with a talk scheduled but told her I had to talk to my bride and to please keep the schedule the way it is and I would call back. After some prayer we decided for May 9 so I’m hoping the lady didn’t change anything. Now I am ready to get r done.
Soonest is probably best, dear brother, when it’s your heart and blockages. Please…..🙏🏻💕 You’ll not be sorry.

I remember early footage (early for me) in the 60s, black-and-white, showed them roaring along in a big inflatable and frogmen commandos rolling over the side at intervals
then the reverse – they had a guy stationed at the gunnel with a big hoop and commandos in the water would hook his elbow into it and get hoisted back aboard — they’d retrieve a whole line of them, all at speed
haven’t seen that footage in ages — since I was a kid, about the time of Lloyd Bridges and Sea Hunt

The formation of what would become UDTs came after the experience of the Navy and Marines at Betio island in Tarawa atoll. Usually just referred to as Tarawa. Tarawa is one of 16 atolls that make up the Marshall island group.
Those Marines not brought ashore against hellish defensive fire in the very limited number of LTVs (Alligator tracked landing vehicles) had to come ashore in standard landing craft. Tide conditions were such that there was not enough water over the reefs for the landing craft to clear. Thus the vast majority of Marines were forced to wade in through water arm pit deep for 100s of yards while under fire. Some had to wade 1/4 of a mile or more. All while under full observation and machine gun and rifle fire. The Japanese had pre ranged their fields of fire based on these exact circumstances.
Although it is the largest island of the Tarawa atoll, Beito is still a tiny island. Only .54 square miles in area. One can stand at the ocean side and look over and see the water on the lagoon side at the narrowest point.
An Australian that knew the island and tidal conditions very well told the navy their landing craft would not be able to pass over the reef. But his advise was ignored. Because of it’s small size and flatness, the Navy decided that Naval Bombardments and air attacks would suffice to destroy most of the defensive positions there by making the assault landings relatively easy. Even the Marines about to make the initial assault thought there was no way many of the enemy could have survived the naval bombardment they witnessed. To the it looked like Betio island was like a volcano erupting. Of course it turned out to be anything but easy. In fact for concentrated fury by such a large number of combatants in such a small area, there is no equal to the 3 day battle for Betio Island that I know of during WW II. Only The Battle of the Tennis Court in India comes close.
As a result of this battle a comprehensive review of what happened and the problems involved was conducted.
Nimitz ordered an extensive study and mapping of Japanese defenses at Betio. Some of the changes made as a result were:
The defenses at Betio were replicated on another island. And it was ordered that every US warship that would be used for preinvasion bombardment would while transiting to the Pacific theater stop by that island for shore bombardment training.
Combat swimmers, the predecessors of the UDTs, formed up and trained to survey beaches and their defenses and to eliminate mines if necessary.
Radios that had failed due to exposure to salt water were improved and had better waterproofing and a more durable design.
More and better armored and armed LTVs were ordered developed.
Better waterproofing for the Sherman medium tanks was developed. (Tarawa was the first place that the Marines had used the M-4 Sherman tanks. Prior to that the Marines had used the light M-3 Stewart tanks.)
Another big change came about partly by accident. Prior to Tarawa pictures of US troops killed were not published in pictures or newsreels. Not since Pearl Harbor had the US public seen pictures of American war dead. Some pictures and film footage of the dead on Betio islands beaches were inadvertently released to the press. FDR was furious. But Nimitz and then King, convinced FDR that the American people had a right to know what the real cost of the island campaigns was going to be because there would be much more to come. And so for the first time since Pearl Harbor newsreels shown in the theaters in the US showed American war dead.
And so a documentary titled With The Marines at Tarawa was produced in 1944 and won the Academy Award for best short documentary in 1945.
Rah.. thanks for history lesson..👍…the video brought up a lot of memories.. in the 40’s a lot of movies (black and white) were about various battles.. Guadicanal , Back to Battan etc.. I’m sure some times they put up a short subject like the video.. and sometimes Hollywood would splice in scenes from video in their movies..
A scene earlier of Destroyer sending line over to Carrier reminded me of time I rode a steel Bos’n chair from my ship DD 531 to another Destroyer DD532..during an exercise 🤣🤣👍

Many of the Marines that assaulted Tarawa had been on the Canal and Tarawa was the first operation the 2nd Marine Division took part in after Guadalcanal. The Division suffered more casualties in the three days at Tarawa than the months they were on Guadalcanal.
After the US had taken Guadalcanal the island became the major base for the continued assaults up the Solomon islands towards Rabaul. After the successful mission to take out Yamamoto, his successor, Admiral Shunsui Kyōraku, built up the Japanese air power to try and stop the American advances and launched several large raids against the airfields on Guadalcanal and ships in Iron bottom sound.
The first raid was at night and abruptly ended an outside showing of the movie Wake Island.
Towards the end of the Movie you may have noticed that one of the troops marching off the island wore a navy blouse. The Marines use Navy corpsmen for their medics. And at times Navy officers specializing in directing naval gun fire accompanied Marine units into combat. Navy Corpsmen on Iwo Jima earned more CMHs than the Marine combat troops.
I did notice that… to be honest I thought he just grabbed it because it was available 🤣🤣👍… I didn’t know Marines used our Corpsman… another learning experience 👍

One final note. In the film they talked about the 8″ guns the Japanese had. They say those guns were captured from the British at Singapore. And that was what the history was recorded as until just a few years ago.
One or two of those guns still stand on the Island. A Brit visiting recorded the serial numbers and did some research. It turned out those guns were bought from the British by the Japanese during the Russo-Japanese war!
The Japanese naval and coastal defense artillery was a very high order. They were very good at it. And on Betio they were even better, because included in the garrison were cadre from the Japanese Naval gunnery school.
Despite this, because of their size the 8″ guns did not do much damage as the majority were taken out of action during the initial bombardment. But smaller artillery was very effective against the landing craft.
Interesting 🤣👍…reminds of stories of scrape iron Japs bought from US and then came back at us as planes and guns …🤣👍

During and before that time much of the waters were uncharted or not accurately charted. Both navies had vessels, large and small, run aground on uncharted reefs and shoals. And that lack of information also went for maps of the topography of the islands that were fought over.
Nimitz himself ran his first command, a destroyer, aground in the Pacific. Only his already very evident ability saved him from a court-martial and severe censure. From that time on he was known to say “Every dog deserves two bites”.

Great post. Been saying the same for over 8 years. We know all we need to know and we are ultimately to blame. I am not outraged by the enemies as much as I am by the compliance and weakness of the people. Our remedies do not lie within the distorted government system. I wont pretend to know all the reasons for what appears to be America’s self imposed implosion, other than to say it is mirrored in many so called “Western Democracies”. Psalm 101
“I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto Thee, O LORD, will I sing. I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt Thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. A froward (distorted, false, crooked, obstinate, contrary) heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. Whoso privily (in a secret way) slanders his neighbor, him will I cut off: him that has a high look and a proud heart will not I suffer. Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with Me: he that walks in a perfect way, he shall serve Me. He that works deceit shall not dwell within My house: he that tells lies shall not tarry in My sight. I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.”
It was testified of David, that he was a man after God’s own heart; and that he was perfect with the LORD all his days; (except for in the matter of Bathsheba). All the kings of Israel and Judah were ever after set alongside David, as the measure of what God desired for a king. It is written in the prophets, that David shall rise again and sit as king of Israel forever, under Christ.
As God has ordained that His people shall reign over all the earth; and that now we are in school and basic training for what our work shall be; we have to recognize that the Scriptures He has given us, and His Holy Spirit, are so that we can become those kings and priests for all that He will have for us to do; and for us to learn, how also to be men and women after His own heart.
The Psalms are mostly Prayers, given by inspiration of God, for us to know what we ought to pray for, and how to learn knowledge of the things of God. This Psalm 101 is one we really should make one of our regular prayers, and spend much time meditating upon, that it may really take root and grow in our hearts.
“I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way.” What is wisdom? I believe wisdom is the putting into action of what we know and understand as good and right in the sight of God. The world thinks someone is wise if they make dark and difficult to follow sentences; and even more so if they have a long gray beard, and wear gauzy clothing and go barefoot. But wisdom according to the Bible, is fearing God and departing from evil; walking in truth; being doers of the word, and not just hearers only. Love, it is said, believes all things; and faith the substance and evidence of our hope in God. Wisdom does what the spirit and conscience know is right; therefore wisdom is the very best friend of courage, who will always give the right counsel.

The great point of Abraham’s faith in God was that he was prepared to do anything for God. He was there to obey God, no matter to what belief he went contrary. Abraham was not a devotee of his convictions, or he would have slain Isaac and said that the voice of the angel was the voice of the devil. That is the attitude of a fanatic. If you will remain true to God, God will lead you straight through every barrier into the inner chamber of the knowledge of Himself; but there is always this point of giving up convictions and traditional beliefs. Don’t ask God to test you. Never declare as Peter did – “I will do anything, I will go to death with Thee.” Abraham did not make any such declaration, he remained true to God, and God purified his faith.

My goodness, Doc. The tribute to her father struck home with me.
My own dad was, as I’ve written about before, a decorated Army captain with a MASH unit in front of the front lines in the Korean War for 18 months. He never spoke of it. Had I asked, I doubt he would have even then he would have. What he saw and dealt with changed him forever, so said my mother.
War is hell. Most today who are screaming for it have no idea.

How important fathers are for girls and boys growing up in a different way.

I’ve been reflecting on what a warrior for God truly is. And my search has brought me to the realization that it is a person that has totally given his life to God to use as God choses…24/7. Generally an intercessor ~ who knows, understands, reaches and touches God in prayer on matters that are important to God. A human that God can use! The story of Rees Howells, Intercessor, will show the strict walk with God that enabled him to accomplish much of God’s agenda even to the point that Howells changed the direction of a war, on his knees in prayer. We need someone today that can touch the throne of God before he touches anything else. Just saying and proclaiming words of what ‘we’ can/will do mean nothing in today’s world…as we are living in a world where Satan doesn’t even hide anymore, and the world still can’t see him. The power of God, literally, is required ~ who will step up to the challenge, the sacrifice, and say, Here I am Lord, Use Me!

Yes. I collect source footage whenever I can. I do a lot of camera videos besides the music videos of shows. Once one of the stars of Blakes 7 came up to my room at a con to see my B7 music videos and asked me why I used their footage instead of shooting my own. I went out after that and bought a camera. Did a lot of shooting so I could handle the B-roll in my video productions. Like following birds.

Giving and receiving… they are interconnected. Yet surprisingly the average person is usually better at giving than receiving. That is not to say people don’t like to get free stuff, most do! But free stuff is different than receiving a thoughtful gift. The emotions of receiving can be complicated with thoughts like “the score is no longer even, I feel one down, I owe this person now” which clouds the gift.
The art of receiving well can only be cultivated by understanding the nature of giving. Giving is a picture of grace, offering something unearned to someone else. Even if what you give is not a perfect gift, the fact that you are offering it requires something of the receiver.
Those familiar with grace may recognize all that is required to receive a gift well is to accept it with gratitude. However, those striving for self-sufficiency might find themselves in the awkward position of feeling like they must now work harder to deserve the gift than they did before it was given!
The apostle Paul mentions his great needs many times in his writings as well as how wonderful it is when his companions in faith work to meet those needs. He was a good receiver, humbly allowing others the joy of giving because he understood the ingredients of grace!
Pray for the people of God in America to be grounded in grace, faithfully sharing His gift of salvation and hope with each other and the world. Ask God to draw to the hearts of those in the nation’s highest offices to gratefully receive His gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

An interesting article. It got me to thinking about how the Lord has given to each of us gifts of the Spirit, according to His own purpose and will, for the benefit of the whole body of Believers.
And with the things the author said, basically about receiving the gift graciously: and then it occurred to me; What would make you happier than to know that the gift you gave someone, they actually loved it and used it all the time!
Ecclesiastes 5:11 “When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?”
Like the saying, “Love wasn’t put in your heart to stay; Love isn’t love till you give it away.”
So the idea of just sitting there trying to feel grateful, doesn’t really in my opinion satisfy what the gift was given for. If someone is given a gift from the Lord; it is given to be used; not to be set pretty on the shelf to look at.
A thoughtful gift is one that you think that person will like, and be able to use.
That’s the final line in a children’s poem.
A bell is no bell til you ring it.
A song is no song til you sing it.
Love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay…
Love isn’t live til you give it away!

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.

July 1979…. 43 years and 100+ pounds ago, I hiked down this trail (Bright Angel) and crossed the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Following day went up the North Rim on the Kaibab trail. Fantastic scenery on both the South and North Rim trails.

We had an incredible wind and rain event before sunrise this morning
I was stirring about prepping for a light drizzle kinda thing. No prob

It got darker than dark. Then dead calm. Then lighting with just about zero time until thunder jumped me a few times. I thought, “well crappo…my plans ain’t happinin.”
Then a sharp wind from north. Higher winds. Deluge of rain. I jogged to the house
In the house my northern faced windows rattled. Lots
Then my south faced windows started getting hit with debris. Hmm
I think an inch plus fell in about 15 minutes. Then poof. Sonrise. Cool. Calm. Wind gently settled to a rare eastern breeze
I took the dogs for a walk. Shad were scattered on the shores. Seagulls had blast
No damage. Just fun. So?
I called it a rain day. Now it’s gardening time.

Good morning Frank. I was watching a LiveStream last night; hail storms reported in parts of NW Texas, Panhandle. Some tornadic activity in a couple of areas. Then it must have calmed down; LiveStream called it a night.

Praise the Lord we were Blessed with a bit of rain with more in the forecast. The change in pressure made my back tighten up yesterday and I got in my Teeter Hangup inversion table to try to get it to align.
Somehow I managed to irritate my old MCL injury in my knee from hanging totally inverted for a minute or two after gradually increasing the tilt while controlling my breathing trying to get the last problem vertebrae to snap into place like a stubborn tumbler in a rusty lock.
I will get back in touch with the Warrior Spirit and hobble around being productive to the best of my abilities, happy that I don’t feel like I have a Bowie knife stuck in between my shoulder blades.. Any parents should really think twice about getting their kiddos involved with youth or high school football.
Morning, CR (as I will always think of you💕). Good? Not so much. And as someone whose many loved ones have suffered with debilitating back problems, I am so sorry. All it takes for things to go skewy whiff (as we said in Wales) is one minor faulty move, one insignificant twist or turn.

I went and found my battle weary ACE bandage, which miraculously had been laundered since it’s last use and wrapped my trick knee up. The back pain will resurface at a moments notice when I fall off the Nightshade(potatoes, tomatoes, peppers) Wagon or when I eat some dessert or drink something overly sugary. I have to remember that what I eat today will affect how my back feels tonight and to a greater extent, tomorrow. I started feeling halfway decent for a few weeks and I wasn’t eating ginger after a few delicious but inflammatory dinners and whammo! I kick myself for not listening to my health nut ex girlfriends in the late 90’s.
Notice how the entrenched powers that be in the medical industrial complex are keen to get rid of homeopathic remedies which served so well for so long? For me the only good thing which came out of the last three horrendous years is that I became educated on those. What can work for various health problems. But as you say, you have to know your body and pay attention at all times. Something I do but my hubs does not.
My big find was turmeric with curcumin with ginger. Inflammation weapon. My joints would be in big trouble without it, as I learned when I temporarily ran out for a week. Getting out of bed in the morning was a lot harder until I replenished our supply. Lesson learned.
