God evening to you, GrandpaM. Pretty sure I said it elsewhere too, but I’m comfortable that there’s no limits on greetings!
I am. Have been hanging out with Asian drama fans. A spontaneous group of 8 women formed into a conversation group. It turned into the most fascinating experience. One of us built a spreadsheet into which we all put all the facts of our lives and we wandered deep into each other’s stories and opinions and beliefs. From all over the world. Such wide differences I’ve never met with before. One of the girls is from an arranged marriage. And the music videos I built for them were not the type I’d post here. Asian dramas are really for women. We watched an entire drama together, making notes as we went. The biggest takeaway was there was complete support for everyone. No bullying. No problem with anyone having a different opinion than the norm. Just a safe, open environment that let us each be our own selves and appreciate the differences and not just the similarities.
But I always keep up your tab, and I always think about the beautiful world that many of you see and share, and do miss you all. Hope there will be more photographs when I refresh this time.
I am so glad you found some fun and engaging ladies to share with. I watched that ENTIRE series you recommended “Cupid’s Kitchen”. It was some fun escapism when I couldn’t sleep except the little protege, Lin Ke Song, made me batty once in a while with the whining. We have no time for whining in this household.
I am sorry and understand if you felt bullied here. There is someone who posts here, who I am most certain is my real life narcissist. And if he isn’t… then they’ve got a bad problem in that location of the country because they are reproducing like lemmings.
If this world has taught me something – it is that nowhere here is a complete utopian oasis. There are going to be challenges and differences in opinion. And that is OKAY. As I tell my daughter, you don’t have to like everyone and not everyone is going to like YOU… and that is OKAY! The world would be boring if we were all automatons and each member is their own unique contribution to this Tree. (You included.)
I have a post-it note above my work desk, which comes in handy. Dr. Phil said it once in an interview… “You don’t have to be offended every time you can be.”
I ignore my narcissist. He’s not worth the pedestal he’s put himself on and I know his truth – so he can only fool some of the people some of the time – but it won’t last. Plus, he’s lost the most important person in his earth – his only daughter. I have nothing but pity and contempt for the man. I make no excuses for that beast anymore – because my daughter understands who a good and upright human being is and one who is false in intentions and deeds. He’s given her quite a lesson on how not to be.
That said – I can pray for the man, but I can’t change him. He’s God’s problem now, not mine. (Thank God!) Nor should we look to change anyone else or control them. We are each gifted uniquely and I pray we all find our place and live with each our own Divine Purpose.
Love you, girl. And I know that may seem odd to you… but, I do! I’ve missed you and I’ve enjoyed immensely you sharing your rich and unique history. I don’t have to fit your image of perfection (I probably wouldn’t) and you don’t have to fit mine (you probably wouldn’t)… to be fully accepted and completely loved.
Hope you’ll stick around. We’ve got some toe-dangling to do on our limbs of this Tree.
Glad you enjoyed the show. She drove me crazy, too. I’m just starting a buddy cop show, Chinese, set in the 1920’s. Killer and Healer. It has good recommendations so I’m hopeful.
One of my VERY favorite shows is a college romance, Chinese style. Love O2O. That I fully recommend.
Animal cruelty is such a big button for me that it sends me away every time. It’s not a difference of opinion. It’s doubtful anyone who thinks such things are funny would actually be in favor of real animal cruelty. It’s a lack of empathy on what reaction they cause, or a lack of caring, which would just be so sad. But every time I run across it, it hits deep in my gut and takes a while to get over the reaction.
Real differences of opinion are fine with me. I was raised to believe in one’s right to individual truth. No one needs to agree with me on much of anything, and I have no need to agree with anyone else on their truths. The red line for me is I don’t deal with people who believe their truths allow them to impose them on me. So much for most Democrats. The progressives I love are the ones who know how to support people who disagree with them. I even have a few fervid anti-Trumper among my closest friends. And that IS one of my core beliefs. They accept I’m a Trumper and I accept they aren’t.

A Satrday on Westheimer back-in-the-day. You could start at one end and more make your way to the other end where you’d find the Jester Bar which was a good place to celebrate closin’ time.
She had fishnets, stilitos, and short-shorts and had obviously had a long night serving drinks. It was closing time and I found myself still there . . . Most people were slowly leaving.
I’d had a great Saturday night but, alas I’d also had a little too much to drink. Not quite drunk but not quite responsible, either. The thing about the Jester was the management and employees knew that, on Saturday’s, it was the end of a long line.
So, it wasn’t all that uncommon for customers like me to need a little R&R before we could leave and be safe driving home. She brought the a cup of on-the-house coffee and Bill Moss the night’s performer came and sat down for awhile while the tables were being cleaned and the chairs stacked . . . It was so many years ago now, I don’t recall her name. But in those waning early morning hours her bringing me that 3rd cup of free coffee and her good-by smile got me home safely. Long may she wave. 🙂

Thanks Mary. It wasn’t exactly a misspent youth, although it was redolent enough to teach me a few things about random kindness in drinking establishments. A lot of people form deleterious opinions about bar culture but the practical realities—as in this long ago example—can be quite different.
In a different decade a friend was seriously drunk at another closing time and so one of the strippers took him home to her apartment, put him up on her couch. and let him sleep it off before he went home.
I don’t think that would appear in the movie version, but it was a decidedly Texas thing to do. Good ‘ole girls . . . 🙂
Fascinating glimpse into another world. I’ve only been to one bar, ever, and that was where mother would have us stop on our way home from church for a hamburger and a real, fizzy, cherry coke.

Thanks for your kind words, Rusted. That was definitely a slice-of-life from so, so many years ago. At the time, I was just a country-boy in the big city, experiencing urban bar-culture for the first time.
There was a big-city vibe back then that was both enormously attractive and mysterious to me and the other small-town 20-somethings who’d moved there for the great job-market. And yes, mostly owing to my youthful imagination , I could sometimes feel myself in scenes from a detective novel. . . . And then there were the three girls in the adjacent apartment who “adopted” me. . . But that’s another story. 🙂

I was one of the workaholics back in those days. Five of us moved together from Chicago to LA and worked day and night together on computer projects. Intensity and friendship and trips to nearby sights. Then three of the group moved to New York and more of the day and night work with pressure and joy and sharing with experts from all over. Intellectual fulfillment through total focus on work and joy in the relationships we built through those experiences. And now, just memories. But such warm ones.

A first year calendar.
Some have stickers for all the “firsts” like rolling over, sitting up, first steps, haircut, teeth, first word, and so on.
My coworkers gave me a library baby shower. Each attendee purchased their very favorite children’s book to start my daughters library. Each wrote a blessing note to her in the front cover. Simple. Inexpensive. Priceless. Loved it.
When I didn’t think I’d be back here to be such a part of my grands’ lives, And knowing that $$$ would be an issue, I said I’d be the Book Grandma.
Children’s books in Britain are so wonderful, and beautifully illustrated. Magical!! Treasures to enjoy a lifetime then pass on to their children. Giving the gift of imagination, priceless.
I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of a sweeter, more meaningful shower, JWoo. Friends and books. An unsurpassable combination.
My youngest, mother of the 3+1, attached a beautiful framed full length mirror to the door to an upstairs spare room, which she has decorated comfortably for reading. She calls it the Narnia Room…through the mirror into a land of enchantment. Her children are all avid readers and can’t wait to get in to settle down in the quiet and dive in. Right now she is reading Harry Potter to them all, their after dinner, after clean up, before bed treat. They’ll remember their childhoods I think…💕
GREAT story, JWoo! Passing on a love of imagination to your children is a priceless gift. And I enjoyed your writing. It’s exciting to stand at the mirrored door and feel the excitement if I put my hand on the knob.
Betsy, I miss those days with my daughter curled up with a good book. We read all the time together and then we would take her books to the local nursing home and she would read with the memory care patients. Many had Alzheimer’s or Dementia, but they always seemed to remember how to be grandparents. So, when kiddo arrived to spend time with those who had no visitors – it was a really special time.
Maybe it’s come with the lexile challenges of her maturing, but she’s not an avid reader anymore. Everything is digital learning now on the computer and these kids are addicted. The cones and rods of their eyes are probably burned right out of their brains.
I spend no less than 10 hours a day on a computer for work and during peak season (like now) it can push to 12 plus hours. I would just as soon throw it all out the window (if it weren’t for you lunatics who I have grown fond of!)
Seems it is very hard to stay focused on tactile books. I miss it. I could do away with technology forever and be grateful for it.

When we’d visit my husbands dad in his home in Chirk, England, we’d go through the main sitting area, and all the residents were sat in chairs around the huge perimeter. No talking, just sitting, staring. I can’t tell you how terrible it was.
My father in law was still fit and handy, so he was not amongst them, but rather was out and about on the premises doing the odd jobs that needed doing.
It was a blessing…but that scene has haunted me ever since…

Good morning all.
Yesterday was a long an tiring day. Took Sherry out for breakfast before we picked up Buckley. He was ready and we paid the $200.00 and he was ours. He has been neutered, received his Rabies and other vaccinations, and had his nails clipped.
He obviously was someone’s pet at one time. He knows sit and shake hands and fetch. And though we had one accident in the house yesterday it seems he is at least partially housebroken. It may be that we just don’t know the signs that he wants to go out.
He is very active, and very loving and demands attention. We so want to give him a bath but can’t until this weekend due to his recent surgery, which has not slowed him up a bit it seems. He just occasionally licks the incision line.
I had to put the baby gate up to block off this bedroom that serves as an office so that Gabby the cat has her safe space until she gets adapted.
Buckly keeps trying to hump Geisha and Geisha let’s him know that ain’t happening as forcefully as it takes. Otherwise she is just tolerating this feisty excited kid for now. She’ll warm up to him as he settles down. We make sure Geisha gets her fair share of attention.
Buckely is actually an excellent specimen of an American Cocker. Chocolate with a little rim of white below his bottom lip. Taller and thinner than Geisha and having longer legs, I still believe he is probably pure bred. He just has the look!
Since we can’t give him a bath he is sleeping in a crate with a pad at night until we can really get him fully clean and get rid of the kennel smell. No Kennel cough. But he does sneeze sometimes and we’ll be trying to figure out if he is allergic to anything. He doesn’t like the crate but settles down eventually as long as he can see us and knows we’re here and have not left him.
Today he gets his ears cleaned. They need it.
He does not seem inclined to chew shoes or anything he shouldn’t but sure can do a number of a chew bone.
So having gotten him out of his crate and taken out on the lead to do his business because he was starting to bark to ask, I am in the office with Gabby and he has run of the house. Sherry and Geisha are still asleep.

I do not know. Is the pitbull ok with it?
Not really! He is only the second bully type I have had out of several that is actually feline compatible. He snarls and bares his teeth when the keeters have tried use him as a bed. He is ok when they lay near him and purr. It’s just when they try to claim ownership by sleeping on him that is abridge too far.

Be ready for the sudden surprise visits of God. A ready person never needs to get ready. Think of the time we waste trying to get ready when God has called! The burning bush is a symbol of everything that surrounds the ready soul, it is ablaze with the presence of God.

Blessed morning, Treeper friends. I am having a hard time keeping up with prior posts. These threads grow and what a blessing that is! Somewhere, someone may be confined to hospital bed – time, time, time on their hands – and though they don’t comment – they lurk here and live vicariously through each of our posts (lives) and seek out our HOPE.
Molon commented that each of us have seen the blessings of God and the miracles He generously performs. We each know the power of prayer. I pray those seeking HOPE find that peace of mind here and will inspire a little seeking of Him Who Holds each of us in His Powerful Hand.
Time to get to work. Too much of it and too little of me and no help on the way. Despite 2 years of asking – greed talks louder – and callousness to using people to excess. Wearing them out, everyone quits, and unhappiness and dog mushing like too few huskies in a sled dog race reigns. The only help offered was no help at all and wouldn’t hire it with a 10 ft pole. The cutting corners messed a lot of things up and I worked hard to get things clean and make accountants happy. 5 years of no progress and only regression and loss. (But I am here for her… which is where I need to be.) Oh, these eyes who simply won’t see. Won’t serve a master who doesn’t honor body autonomy. Demands of daughter who needs my flexibility. Too many masters and not enough servants. A prayer indeed – alas a seemingly unanswered one. Well, we all realize that HE does answer – even if the answer is “not yet”.
Someday the Lord will balance the scales. My faith reigns and that’s the hill I climb – as CountryDoc so eloquently and righteously put it. Love to you, CountryDoc. Let’s go climb our mountains together today! AggieGirl – you, too! I know you work and lurk here prior to the start of your day – a GREAT way to start!

Oh how difficult it is for ‘great employees’ to stay great and endure the ever-growing piles of responsibility in their jobs (and those of others who leave or don’t exist for many reasons). I worked my entire career in Quality Management where the job entails solving problems, fixing mistakes, soothing customers’ concerns and so on. My last 2-3 years were almost unbearable covering my job, a colleague’s job (who was very sick) and a new boss who was a tireless delegator. What a combo. So, when it was djab or leave, I left. Happy now.
My empathy goes out to juststevie, JWoo and all others that are still working in today’s difficult circumstances, not the least of which are the woke and inclusivity factors that wear down the joy of the conservative Christian in the workplace. The Armour of God gets its dings and scratches along the way but protects as intended. Praise the Lord!
If for nothing else pari, Our God shows Himself to be faithful and true…in every circumstance ultimately, if we just give Him the chance! I’m so glad to know Him!!!

It seems that the workplace environment is becoming more and more dysfunctional; I saw plenty of it where I worked in the past few years. Corporate greed, corruption, racism, and understaffing; saw a lot of it when I worked at a Job Corps center decades ago.
So called affirmative action hiring practices are a big part of the problem.

Yes, Jon is a good, good man. (Bass player for Mellencamp) Spoke with his wife last night checking in on her. They’re needing help too at their music academy. (sigh) Sure would be glad to help them out, if it weren’t so far away from where we live… and I am kiddo’s chauffeur for her job.
I do not work for a large corporation anymore. Used to. Worked for one of the best and biggest. Attended some pretty fine charm schools with them. Handled a lot of responsibility and my job was really meaningful – but it wasn’t conducive to being a Mom.
Now, I work for a small business and do it all. We’ve gotten so big that I can’t feasibly wear all these hats anymore. I have served the public directly for over 35 years now and the people of this day and age are simply bananas. The sense of entitlement and outrageous behavior… and now that kids at Culver’s bagging fries can earn almost as much as me as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager… it is just absurd. – Atlas is Shrugging
I’m ready to move to another country and live with an indigenous tribe. I’m over it.
The best part of this Tree is that we never run out of branches. From once upon a time a small (tops) 75 comments on this beautiful thread to now triple digits each day, it is a glorious thing to watch! While this is probably not the time to leave a hard job that still serves to pay your bills, that time will surely come. And when that time comes, when you are confident the time is right—and it will come—the feeling of accomplishment and liberation will be all the sweeter. 🙂

I think this vote will test Sundances’ theory that Republicans really don’t want to be in control and are just interested in fundraising.
If Republicans refuse to raise debt limit knowing full well they will sabotage the 2024 election for President it will be proof that Sundance was right, again.

Betsy. This is heart wrenching. I was asked to fill in for a pastor last Sunday and prepared a message about the flood. The days of Noah were evil. But I sure can’t see that our culture today is much better.
The most heavy rebukes by Jesus were directed towards the church leadership. We rail against a corrupt and evil govt, but our churches have dropped the ball. I preached a no nonsense message against the woke ideology that is creeping into the church. I believe that some in attendance were not happy.
Our regular church we now attend is a Bible believing church where TRUTH is preached though the pastor is jailed eventually for his stand. Too few churches have taken this stand. We are being destroyed from within as much as from without.

Betsy, even here in rural AL, we had to leave our church denomination from our childhoods – the Episcopal church. We were already only tithing to the local parish=not the national, because of their views on abortion and same=sex unions and illegal immigration. But, this local church was the first to close down during the covid19 hullabaloo and the last to reopen (with major restrictions). We found a tiny orthodox Anglican/Catholic Church about 45 min away. I had been thirsting for church and communion. Now there is a new/starting branch of this church in our small town. We meet at the YMCA daycare building for now. But there is so much joy and hope there, and we are gaining regulars!
Rileytrips…I was brought up in the Episcopal Church. My father was a long time vestryman. The rector was a family friend as well. He is gone now, but I can’t tell you how much I miss that man. I loved the Order of Service. I loved the respectful and worshipful tradition. I loved that I felt elevated for attending the services….all gone. My Book of Common Prayer is possibly my most valued possession .
When I lived in Britain I wanted to attend the Anglican Services. But the changes had already infiltrated the Synod and churches there, until today, the Archbishop of Canterbury has ordered their church schools to incorporate the sick transgenderism in the Anglican schools, effectively saying that, yes, God has made a mistake with some in assigning babies either male or female at birth. That’s how apostate it has become. That Church of course has adopted women priests, which I will never get used to, gay blessings for unions, and the rest.

I am always amazed at these pictures, how fortunate the timing in getting them, as the stillness lasts only a millisecond. One must have patience…Beautiful!
I replaced a very old bird house that has always drawn wrens to it and this year instead of wrens we ended up with a black-capped chickadee ‘couple’. They are a joy to watch – looking forward to the family grow.

Just saw 5 of these at my waterfall. Yellow-rumped warblers. The one Warbler species that really does not migrate out of the US for the winter. My most common yard warbler.
