I don’t know about you, Bet, but when I see a photo like this I can’t help wondering who lives in such a wonderful house? And then, being a thoroughgoing Texan more accustomed to the Hill Country, my thoughts turn to wondering what it must be like to live there . . . Wonder if there’s space for my cars . . . ???
You ask all the questions I ask myself, Garrison. Asked myself as I’d see thousands of such dwellings in the little backwaters of Wales and England. Who does live in a house like that? That one looks as if it is situated in a prosperous rural community in the South of England where tradition is not a dirty word. Sigh…
Or wasn’t until the last decade or so. Times gone by, when people took pride in their surroundings, their gardens…and treasured their solitude from the rat race that so much of the world has become. Your word…Halcyon days. They do exist still. But in fewer and fewer places, alas.
As for your cars? Doubtful. Even their parking spaces are marked for smaller cars. Public transportation would likely be available in an area where you see houses as above.
Either that, or the local shoppes would be within walking distance. Our small town had 2 butchers, 2 bakers, and 1 candlestick maker, if you can remember that old nursery rhyme. Many people have shopping trolleys which they push or tow and walk from shop to shop on what is called “the high street” where they are.
Maybe stop for a cup of tea somewhere and perhaps a crumpet or sandwich…
Ok…now I’m there. And I’m babbling😉 But you get the idea. Idyllic really, even in imagination.
It’s why we enjoy watching British shows on Acorn or Britbox which take place in areas like that. The Father Brown series do for example.
Well so much for fantasy flight…it’s done me a power of good to reminisce…😘
Sigh. And I can just imagine a ‘good-ole-boy’ Texan with noisy cars moving into such a settled place.

Our cellphones are like using two Dixie cups and a string… very frustrating, like you said, on important calls.

I finally surrendered to statins last fall, after fighting – tooth and nail – for 25 years!
But it was time. My cardiologist gently encouraged me to try Rx since my last carotid sonogram showed big increase in blockage.
My father died, aged 51, from major stroke. My mother had three strokes, so it’s in my DNA.
I’m older now, so it’s like Betsy says, something is going to get us.
Just trying to get the least painful way out!

Hear ya, dear Della. I was just talking with my oldest who had brought dinner over for tonight about this…she was telling me her grandmother on her dad’s side was on everything Big Pharma could get her on.
Finally she said she didn’t want to be here forever, and ditched the lot. Lived a few more years after until she was about 90. Her decision.
So sweet for your daughter to bring dinner!
If close by, I would – along with other treepers – keep you supplied with meals for awhile…
All I know, like my hubs says – we really are not in control. Only God is.
We do the best we can, with what we know, what we have, and leave the rest to Him.
The statin drug I just began is first prescription drug ever for me – now in my 70s.
Those strokes scare me, big time. I’ve seen it…
So appreciated CountryDoc’s post today on things we can do for our best health.
We have been applying those principles for quite some time.
Yet all of us can do everything required – and still end up with sickness.
Again, it’s all in God’s hands.

My husband and I were just speaking about how God’s timing is written. How what, for us, was every day with no speed bumps and the horizon seemingly in view has been altered forever. No different for us than it is for anyone else. All one has to do to understand this is hop onto the Prayer Thread to know it is so. It is simply our turn.
So now, His timing has shown itself and we are making adjustments, as we all must. I’ve never considered ourselves “old”. But old we are and we are feeling it suddenly.
Labor pains, I’ll call them, as we are on our way to being born into our eternal Home. There is all to look forward to🙏🏻💕
Yes, it’s our turn now … hopefully, we can do this aging thing gracefully – leaving a Godly example for the younger generations.
I’m thankful for the years the Lord has given me, and am not ashamed of being older. It’s a blessing.
Not everyone makes a long life. But we are here for His purposes. Not ours.

I don’t know what we expected but recovery will be a while. No problems surgically, but the fatigue is crushing. Every day is better than the one before but for a guy who all his life has been fit, up and doing, it has been an adjustment.
Prayers offered saw him see another birthday yesterday, and we are grateful. Bless, dear friend for your thoughtfulness.
And I keep you in my prayers for your recovery as well. After a certain age, it isn’t easy, I know🙏🏻💕

It’s hard to read. Doc says it should be temporary, but it’s going on five weeks.

Joe, I did the same and my levels skyrocketed within a few months. I was referred to a cardiology pharmacist who specializes in hypercholesterolemia. He looked over all my past lipid levels and decided I have familial hypercholesterolemia that diet and exercise can’t control. After much discussion we decided to try a statin at the lowest dose to try to avoid the intense muscle pains I’ve had in the past. So, I now take half the lowest doses of Crestor and Zetia with great success. Within 3 months my numbers are totally within normal limits and staying there now 2 years. I take a good CoQ10 supplement also. I too have a family history of heart disease, stroke and vascular senility so I want to do what I can to stay healthy.
I’m sorry this is long. Hopefully, my experience will be helpful.
No information is useless, especially as other’s experiences go, Gramadeb. Gives us all side effects others who take medications have experienced…things to look for. I think what you wrote was very valuable.

Good for you! Hold fast against statins, they are evil. After sum-teen years of pestering me to take them, about 8 years ago, I went into liver failure within 30 days of taking them for higher triglycerides (tgi) than they like. I’m fine and have worked on getting and keeping them down (tgi). I’ve got you in my prayers for your heart problems and hope for bet outcomes for you and your family. Blessings to you as well.

Intermittent fasting.
Cardiologist wasn’t too happy but didn’t argue. Ext step is heart catheter and angiogram to see how accurate was the CT scan. He said that absolutely it could give you a higher stenosis number than the real deal.

I’ve been intermittent fasting since summer of 2019 using the 16/8 plan. Lost 30 lbs. and got my blood numbers into healthier ranges. Since retiring though, I’ve let a few lbs. slip back into place so hubs and I are going to go keto for a while and see how that goes. I LOVE bread and that’s where I go wrong. Keep on your pace and prove the Doc that you are in control.
Plus the statin’s won’t do jack for inflammation which is the major reason for plaque buildup.
And I don’t like getting diabetes or kidney failure, and want my liver to stay
healthy for the occasional glass of red wine.
The more I read, the more I’m discovering that inflammation is the main cause of a lot of problems.
Ginger, garlic and fresh pineapple for inflammation every day multiple times a day! I eat a bag of walnut halves per week as well.

There is a breakfast drink at First Watch called Morning Meditation – which is my inflammation therapy drink. Loooooove it. We make that one and my daughter’s favorite – the Kale Tonic – at home. You could probably use the leftover pulp from the Kale Tonic in a mighty righteous baked zucchini bread.
Morning Meditation
8 oz orange juice
1.5 oz lemon juice
1 tbsp fresh turmeric juice
1.5 oz agave nectar
1 tbsp ginger juice
8 oz cold, filtered water
2 oz fresh beet juice, divided
1. Place all ingredients except beet juice in a glass and whisk until thoroughly combined.
2. Refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to serve.
3. To serve, add ice to a glass, pour mixture into glass, and top with 1 oz (2 tbsp) beet juice per glass
Kale Tonic
Kale — 2 cups
Apple — 1. (Preferably Fuji)
Cucumber — 1, chopped.
Lemon — 1 large, peeled
Ice — 5 cubes
Water — 1 cup (I substitute Apple Juice)
Puree in a Ninja Bullet and strain using a paddle spatula, through a small mesh strainer. (I haven’t tried it yet, but I am going to use this pulp someday in a righteous zucchini bread – bet it would be amazeballs!)

I was just thinking the same thing, Betsy. Thanks for the post!!! One of my late wife’s former students has stayed in contact over the years. Awhile back he told me of his first encounter.
It was my wife’s first day at her new university job. The students didn’t recognize her name on the class roster . . . and wondered who she was. Our friend then described the door opening and this gorgeous red-head in a mini-skirt walked in.
I have to say I was captivated by her classic Texas-girl good looks which were a combination of uncomplicated girl-next-door and drop-dead starlet so I can easily understand just how dramatic her first-day entrance actually was.
Looking back on those halcyon days I’m still sometime wonder what somebody like her . . . saw in somebody like me? One answer is Trust and Loyalty which we had and worked to maintain for the entirety of our 55 years together. Sigh.
Those two traits are what sustained me and the wife for 54yrs… so I couldn’t agree more..😀👍

4/16/2023 – I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood
Joshua 24:1-5 “And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God. And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods. And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.”
Psalm 28:5 “Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them, and not build them up.”
The “works” of the LORD, are His actions, His ways, His practice; as that which He does systematically and habitually; what He does out of His nature and character. The “operation” of His hands, are the products, the results, the fruits of those actions. This which Joshua is calling attention to, is the eternal ways of the LORD, evidenced by the results of His actions; how He has steadfastly continued to be from the beginning, to always bear witness to the truth, and that He comes to save the world.
We should all well know by now, the facts concerning the world of the beginning coming to its doom by the cataclysm and the flood, and only eight souls being saved, (by that very judgment which destroyed the ungodly), was the result of the children of election falling away, and causing the whole world to utterly corrupt and be filled with violence, until God had no other He could do, but destroy all.
We also ought by now to know well, the story of how just barely a hundred years into the New World, Nimrod exalted himself against the LORD, and against His Anointed, and began to be mighty in the earth. He was not the inventor of that spirit; but it was carried over in their innermost psyche, from “the other side of the flood.”
After the holy family came out of the ark, and started life again, it was only about a hundred years after, that the bastard son of Cush gave himself wholly to Satan, to begin to gather the mongrel peoples dwelling in the wilderness, to make himself an army; and to lead them out to make war on the saints; “going forth conquering, and to subdue” all unto himself, and to force God and His influences up and away from off of men on earth. The “supernatural influences” he fed upon, were to revive again the gods of war against the heavens, and seize the kingdom from the hands of God’s Anointed. That which the “sons of God” willingly succumbed to with respect to the children of Cain, in the first world; Nimrod and his wife Semiramis took to reestablish.
This is what Joshua referred to when he says, “Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.” For just as the cataclysm of Noah’s days did not take out of the heart of the children of the wicked, what they were in old time; but carried it in their genes over the flood, (and the “wound of its death” still healed); so did it happen, that neither did the confounding of the language and scattering of them over the face of all the earth, drive out of their hearts what kind they are, or make them cease from pursuing all their wicked imagination against the LORD.
Isaiah 1:5 “Why should you be stricken any more? you will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.” They have chosen their own ways, and to say in their heart, No God! Nothing can make them repent! Proverbs 27:22 “Though you should *bray (pound into a powder) a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.”
This is what Joshua is talking about, as he give them his last words before he dies: “Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood . . . and I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout the land of Canaan.” What God did, and all His ways which He wrought in the holy ancients, from Abel and Seth, to Enoch, and to Noah and Shem; He continued through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; through whom Christ would come in the flesh into the world. And sending Moses and Aaron to bring the plagues and doom upon Egypt and her gods; and thereby bring Israel out of bondage by a great salvation, was a sign for instruction, of God finishing the salvation of His people in His Word.
The Holy Spirit gave to David the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God, and he was therefore able to describe the things of the spirit of man with respect to his relation with God. That which makes manifest is light! And that which makes manifest the inward parts of the spirit of a man, where he “mentally separates, distinguishes and discerns,” and then goes in the way that he shall choose; so are we instructed to discern God by His ways and the results of His actions toward us.
God has made the spirit in man so that he should choose, to either be of the truth, and believe God’s report concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord; or else to not stand in the truth, and not regard all the evidence of God’s nature and and actions to save us, and continue serving the gods of his ancestors on the other side of the flood. So cute nwtex. I walked out of my office today and rounded the corner straight into a super tall blonde Goldendoodle. His human was distracted by his phone call and puppers was walking about 20 paces behind him. He gave me a good once over – “forced” me to fluff up his mane for him and then proceeded to walk on with his human. Cutie pupper wuppers!

One of the truly sad things about being depressed is not feeling comfortable reaching often causes others to ignore you. And, for a depressed person, that can become confirmation that we don’t deserve any attention from others. So, sad.

People don’t reach out to others for many reasons – and yes, depression is one of them.
It becomes extremely hard, as depression is dark, and only causes one to isolate and withdraw further.
That’s when it’s crucial for someone to come along side for awhile and give support.
Especially helping the depressed one correct their misunderstanding that they’re not worthy of attention.
That is only an illusion. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You left out printer, publisher, and scientist. One of my favorite founders. Brilliant and yet with very human faults and foibles. Did you know that he had his name on pews in 8 different churches in Philadelphia, signifying he was a significant benefactor for each of those churches? Like Washington and several other founders, he was a Master Mason.
BTW he was the first American to suggest the use of Airborne troops in warfare but of course he meant deploying them by the use of balloons.
I transferred what they had in the write up, wish I had the time to note everyone’s accomplishments.
Scrolled up and happened to find Ben… and there he is with what was wrote up about him, not sure I would trust wikipedia to refer to … in his case tho, didn’t even look, might p*ss me off.

Great Scripture cited. I think however the King James or the Textus Receptus to be the best; everything else sounds so watered down and sloppy; like everything else in the fat and indolent West, all their over processing has leached all the nutrition out of it.
Anyway, I just want to say to what you wrote, I really don’t think you have got the context of what Paul wrote. He wasn’t talking about saving the Republic, or standing defiant to resist the government from taking away our rights! ALL THE OPPOSITE! He had as enviable life as a Jew could want, as a Pharisee; and by his zeal in the traditions of the Rabbis, he excelled above many of his peers. BUT then he got saved! The Lord Jesus knocked him off his high horse, literally, and gave him the knowledge of the truth and the gift of salvation; and because of that, he suffered the loss of ALL!
The point of the Scripture, (which you have twisted around to support your political cause), the POINT of the scripture, is that now in Christ, we live by the cross of Christ. “That I may know Him and THE POWER OF HIS RESURRECTION, (free from the power of sin and darkness, and the old man already having been condemned and taken away, so that the New Man may now live); and THE FELLOWSHIP OF HIS SUFFERINGS, BEING MADE CONFORMABLE UNTO HIS DEATH, IF BY ANY MEANS I MIGHT ATTAIN TO THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD.”
Our conversation, our course in life and conduct, is no more in this world or of this world; but in heaven, where our Home is with Jesus and the Father and all the holy angels and saints. Start again, and get a King James Bible, and begin with the Sermon On The Mount, Matthew 5-7; and then Matthew 13, about what it means to receive the word in a good and honest heart; and then with the Last Supper discourse, in John 13-17; and then see if any of this”defiance” aligns at all with the Spirit of Christ.
Taking the Word of God, and twisting it out of context, in order to support a purely natural and heathen mindset; makes someone a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and a false teacher. By reason of these kind, the way of truth is evil spoken of, and many shall be deceived and scandalized who hearken to it; so that day shall cause many to be snared and sin and betray one another. All because they refused the Holy Spirit, and were enemies in their heart of the cross of Christ; and still think like men, that they have to rescue Jesus and themselves from being delivered to the hands of the devil’s children. You do not yet understand, that this that you are fighting against, is ordained by God for judgment, and for the salvation of the world.

Thank you for your reply, it helped my see how I did not convey myself well enough, which is often what happens when I write straight from my morning meditation. I am in quite a troubled place, and daily question what God’s will is for me to do with my 12 years of school and training and 30 years of experience as a physician.
I agree with your interpretation of Philippians.
I would love to know a little bit more of what you think I said. I don’t think you understood what I wrote.
What it seems you have written mostly about me:
If I don’t use the KJV or Textus Receptus, what I read will be watered down and sloppy
The West (where I live) is fat and indolent
I have twisted scripture around to support my political cause
I have a defiant spirit, which runs counter to what Paul is saying
I have twisted the word of God out of context
I have a natural and heathen mindset

In fact, I shared Paul’s passage, and hear him say, “above all seek Christ”
I shared my frustration and feelings: “I have had welling within me a desire to fight for right. That we are in danger. I am ready to lay down my life, but evil is everywhere, and I don’t know which hill to charge.”
Sundance says, “If you want to know the most important thing you can do to save Our Republic, then first – get right with God.” To me (and I suspect, to Sundance) that means, as Paul would say, “Know Christ”.
I found peace in hearing Paul remind me that our battle is against powers and principalities in the spiritual realm. I don’t have to fight. I don’t have to charge a hill. And if there is a hill to charge, it is the hill to buffet my body, run the race, and win the prize. To know Christ. I found peace in that.
My defiance of using the term Molon Labe (spoken by Leonidas) when the Spartans were told to surrender their weapons by Xerxes, who eventually overpowered them. We too, in this Constitutional Republic, may be overpowered. In the enlightenment of my meditation this weekend, I have taken peace that this Republic and the world is in an ongoing spiritual battle, and like it has many times, is fixing to get ugly.
My desire to rebel, and claim my citizen rights (as Paul appealed to Caesar), or as Jesus overturned the tables of the money changer, or David defeated Goliath — this desire is being replaced with the peace that comes from channeling my desire to fight, rebel, and defy into knowing Christ better. Or as Sundance says, If you want to save the Republic, get right with God.
In my troubled place (which by the way gets very close to suicide, but thanks be to God my faith is greater than the pain I often feel. The rate of suicide is higher among all professions, greater than war veterans). I was seeking to share that with Molon Labe, Stevie, Betty and others who have been praying for me on the prayer thread. I was late for work, so I didn’t get to expound on the point of joy I wanted to share with them and any others.
Michael, you chose this moment and this conversation to school me about KJV, proper meaning, and make the accusations. I’m not sure what your motives were, but they didn’t feel like they were meant to encourage and support.
I know the KJV well. Unfortunately, most of my experience with it came from hearing and then reading over and over the interpretations by many judgemental, fear and shame producing, people who taught doubt and uncertainty with respect to our goodness and relationship with Christ and God. Who taught a dependence on the Church as an institution and the approval of the humans in it as a means of spiritual security. They were well meaning, as I am sure you are, but not effective.
By the way, I have 2 years of new testament Greek.

I am deeply sorry for the offensiveness of Michael’s words. It is a common thread, which leads me to believe he elevates himself – as opposed to God – as everyone’s “lord” (little “l”) That’s not bowing to God in humility and in reverence, that is domination, overpowering, self-gloating, and belittling.
That repels people and it’s unwelcome and unkind. That’s a childish, narcissistic, bully who thinks he’s superior. You’re not really a leader if no one follows you and he certainly can (and should) create his own platform (as I have politely suggested he should before) so he can gauge and monitor his eager followers.
I sometimes feel I trip over my own words – maybe I don’t express things as well as my intention.
I hope you are alright. I hope that this skirmish will not deter you from sharing with us – but will encourage you to share more. I value your posts and appreciate your view from your perspective and profession.

Wintry mix here this morning. Not sticking on the roads or ground but my pickup in the driveway has white stuff on it.
Please say a prayer for my bengal tomcat Jinx. He has recovered from his run in with the Sandhill Crane. This morning I find him a bloody mess on the back porch. The Vet sees dollar bill signs when I walk through the door. I am waiting for an appointment to have him fixed. I can’t keep him in the house because he will spray. Looks like he will be in the garage for the next few days. The Servant Of Cats never knows what the day has in store.

I have to figure out how to link a picture of this knucklehead so you all can see this problem child for yourselves. I now have 2 raccoon traps out baited with solid white Albacore for the feral bugger responsible for these unplanned expenditures and countless overturned garbage cans. Knowing my luck, I will probably catch my own cats!
Oh gosh, Social…I know what you are speaking of as to costs. Sometimes I think vets count on our deep love for our animals, that we will pay anything to get them right. More and more I see this similarity with the medical “profession”. It didn’t used to be this way with either. I am so sorry and understand your predicament because we live it too.
It is the reason we do not have a dog or cat, where we used to have some of each at any one time. Just can’t afford it. It is a source of loss for us. I am so so very sorry for you, and for your Jinx, who I know it cuts to the quick for you to see him suffer. I am aching with you, dear sir. 💔

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.

One of the earlier Warbler migrants north in the Spring. Palm Warbler. They are very often on the ground hanging with their Yellow-Rumped Warbler flock mates, who are the one Warbler species that does not leave America for the Winter. I’ve already had them come though my yard this year. They pump their tails which makes ID easier.

Both of our Kinglet species who I call our “Winter Warblers” because of their size (they are actually smaller than most warblers except for like Parula’s) flick their wings which is a dead giveaway that they are Kinglets. There are usually behaviors or where/when you see them which help to id them. I hope you have a Sibley’s bird guide. That is acknowledged as the best one on the market.
I do not have any House Wrens here (just the sweet Carolina) but I’ve always had a fondness for them as I kinda associate it with my Nana (and Robins)

They are tiny birds. I get them regularly in late fall/winter/early Spring. Sometimes they hang around if I have suet out. This is a Golden Crowned Kinglet male. Sometimes they hide that crown making id with the Ruby Crowned difficult
