Good morning, Garrison. I love that you’re putting well beloved works like this in. Such a treat to find and enjoy them.
There are four major prestigious piano competitions. The Leeds in Britain is one.
One year I was able to watch the finals on the BBC (before they decided such broadcasts of beauty were passé). The 5 finalists were allowed to choose from 5 well known concertos for their final performance before an appreciative audience.
Four of the five chose the Schumann. I can’t remember what the fifth chose. And I must admit it was interesting to hear it, one finalist after another, to play in small ways and large, playing their different interpretations…though I would have preferred to hear a selection of concertos rather than the lovely Schumann over and over.
I haven’t heard it in quite a while. To not only hear but to see the phenomenal Wang deliver this magnificently was just the ticket for a Monday morning.💕
And as you know, Robert Schumann’s wife, Clara, was a talented composer and pianist in her own right.
This is her concerto in A minor which she composed when she was a teenager. Many said she was a better pianist than her husband.
But in any event, I have always been enchanted by this lovely work and thought I’d link it here to accompany his which you have so graciously posted.💕

My husband turned me on to classical music and the first time I heard such on noise cancelling headphones…I cried, it was so moving.
Those make a world of difference, Bananas.
The first work I ever listened to with those headphones was Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs sung by Lucia Popp. My favourite recording of that work is sung by Jessye Norman, sadly gone now…the most powerful soprano voice that I have ever heard. She did this sublime work justice.

I say nearly wept…I did weep buckets when I listened to Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42, which I will leave here. Listen to it and then imagine how it would sound with those headphones!

Awhile back, it occurred to me that I hadn’t been paying enough attention to classical music selections. Don’t know why—I dearly love this music and listen to it all the time. I guess I was just running down different musical rabbit holes when it came to choosing music to post here. I’ve always felt that Schuman’s unique lyricism always responded best to great virtuosity so Yuja Wang was an obvious choice.
If you get a chance to do so, I think you’d enjoy attending a musical competitive event. Being on that “inside” and being around so many very talented young musicans is a really interesting. 🙂
Here in our area we have the Van Cliburn Competition every four years. I would love to see the performances, but as you can imagine tickets are as rare as hen’s teeth, quite expensive, and bought well in advance. And the atmosphere is always electric. Yes indeed, I have no doubt that what you say is the absolute truth and something I can well imagine.
The Guitar Foundation Of America has annual competitions usually in conjunction with their membership convention. I haven’t been in awhile but if the competitions weren’t free to the public, then tickets were both available and pretty cheap. The GFA conventions are sometimes held in Texas, often in the Dallas area.
Oh I bet you enjoyed the heck out of any you attended…right up your alley.👍🏻

No. Rumble videos never did automatically embed on CTH (as far as I know). I see Sundance manually embeds Rumble videos in his articles.
I’ve also seen mods manually embed a good Rumble video in someone’s comment.

How is Mr. Betsy doing? I want to mention to you and to him that when my father had an aortic aneurysm, he was instructed how to cough to clear his lungs. It was incredibly important. That was 2007, so maybe things have changed and Garrison can speak more to this. Anyway… I hope Mr. Bets is being an excellent patient and abiding by the doctor’s orders… especially in regard to keeping his lungs clear. Still keeping you in my prayers through your healing. Love to you.
Bless lovely girl. Yes, coughing is essential, no worries there, as that is all he has done ever since. And no, things have not changed. I was doing that when my first was born by C-section 47 years ago. Pneumonia is something one does not want…so loving of you to highlight that important aspect of post surgical recovery😘
My father died that way, Bets. He survived his aortic aneurysm and died one week later of pneumonia. So I tend to feel much better… many weeks post-op with most things. I was gently trying to encourage post-treatment care, because it hits a little too close to home and God only knows how these doctors communicate nowadays. It’s a sore spot for me. My father was a German ox! His aorta burst when he was manhandling a tow trailer, he was painting. I tend to be a little overprotective of my adopted elders now. (Garrison…don’t you TOUCH that tree! LOL!)
So not trying to be pushy… but, yeah… totally trying to be pushy. LOL He needs to take his gentle walks, lay off the heavy petting and/or stairs… and/or heavy petting on the stairs… (for now… lol) and expel, expel, expel.
No energy for that I fear..the rest of your well meant and accurate suggestions are on our sheets supplied as we left the hospital. But in fact all these I know through a close association with someone who went to UT Southwestern Medical School and from my own surgeon father.
My dear friend in the UK lost her father the same way. So I understand the shock; and even though time has passed since the loss of your father, I believe the residual feelings of the suddeness of it must still be with you, as well as his absence. I am truly sorry, sweet friend.
So go right ahead…push away😎

Mornin’ JWoo, love. <laughing> Sadly, my dad’s aneurysm burst while he was in the hospital and they still couldn’t save him . . . just another example of how serious heart related aneurysms are (1 in 5 mortality). I was fortunate to have a close friend, a recently retired heart surgeon, who connecected me with a top-flight cardiologist and equally good surgeon he worked with as an assistant surgeon.
It was interesting to observe the interplay between the surgeons and the cardiologist as they decided how to proceed. Even though these guys were friends who worked closely with each other, there was a real negotiation going on. In fact, it was my cardiologist who told me about the location of the aneurysm. I told him how my dad had died from the exact condition and asked “Surgery?” . . . He responded with “Oh, yes!”. I’m sure glad my friend made these connections. Those guys saved my life.
So grateful you had a successful surgery, Garrison. It is a miraculous thing these surgeons can do these days!
Please let your dear husband know that we are all praying for his speedy recovery! It is hard caring for a husband – you know they are getting better when they get irritable/crotchety with you 😉

CO-CRUCIFIXION: Have I made this decision about sin – that it must be killed right out in me? It takes a long time to come to a moral decision about sin, but it is the great moment in my life when I do decide that just as Jesus Christ died for the sin of the world, so sin must die out in me, not be curbed or suppressed or counteracted, but crucified. No one can bring anyone else to this decision. We may be earnestly convinced, and religiously convinced, but what we need to do is to come to the decision which Paul forces here.
Haul yourself up, take a time alone with God, make the moral decision and say – “Lord, identify me with Thy death until I know that sin is dead in me.” Make the moral decision that sin in you must be put to death.
It was not a divine anticipation on the part of Paul, but a very radical and definite experience. Am I prepared to let the Spirit of God search me until I know what the disposition of sin is – the thing that lusts against the Spirit of God in me? Then if so, will I agree with God’s verdict on that disposition of sin – that it should be identified with the death of Jesus? I cannot reckon myself “dead indeed unto sin” unless I have been through this radical issue of will before God.
Have I entered into the glorious privilege of being crucified with Christ until all that is left is the life of Christ in my flesh and blood? “I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.”

Okay…here’s the story. Hope you’re sitting down because it might go on a bit…
Every nurse we had was an angel. Competent, sweet, putting us in a place of ease where there seemed to be none. But the last one??
Her name was Hunter and she was an outspoken ball of fire with a personality times a million. When I finally met her yesterday, Easter, she came in the room and had fashioned for herself some colourful bunny ears, one of each attached to the tops of each lens of her glasses. It did make us laugh.
Then she turned around and she had taped a huge piece of cotton to the bottom of her trousers and proceeded to wiggle her bottom like a bunny. Sounds ridiculous, I know but the laughter was a healing moment and we appreciated it.
She then sat and we conversed for about 15 minutes, finding out all about her (because I asked and peoples’ stories fascinate me…okay, okay…I am nosy😎).
Anyway, she told me she was a “people person” which of course was clear. She spoke of a place she lived where those in the neighbourhood didn’t interact…
And at that moment I thought of you and your stories of baking and delivering in a neighbourhood you used to live in. I was in effect talking to you!
Because she said that’s what she did. Baked tons of cookies and proceeded to get to know her neighbours.
Further she gave us each one of those plastic eggs with a piece of chocolate inside and a little message which she had taken the time to write out.
Mine said the following…
“Keep your face to the sunshine and the shadows will always be behind you.”
And again, I knew I was really talking to you, Joan. Hard to explain…but I’m sure you understand😉
She was one of God’s blessings put not only in our path but in the paths of everyone who came in contact with her in that hospital, who needed her sort of nursing…nursing for the heart and the soul, as well as the body.
After reading your tale below about the pastor who so needed a human response to his loss and got it from no one but you? Well, as is said, change my mind that you and she are the same.
There it is…my not so little story. There are good good people in this world. And it was life affirming to know they are doing the work as Jesus did, Who tended to the sick, the frightened, and the sorrowful. On Easter Sunday as well. It really was very powerful.🙏🏻💕 I really wanted to share that with you.

I wonder if she’s married and has any children? That is a huge time investment to write little sayings and place them in Easter eggs. Terrific idea.
Sometimes it’s the loneliest among us who reach that far for others. I pray she’s blessed and if unmarried and without children… I pray she be adopted.
There’s a George Strait song I love… and one verse resounds over and over… “There’s a difference in living… and living well.” I think in my history… I just got left on the battlefield alone one too many times. The thing that stops people from “getting involved” is fear of rejection.
What is the very worst thing that can happen in going out on a limb to minister to someone… or to love them lavishly? Embarrassment? Rejection?
Or what’s the BEST thing that can happen? Share a moment that might last a lifetime? Shed or speak light to darkness? Give an “AMEN!” that might get a few more? Laugh a little? Laugh a lot? Help someone else feel really noticed and relevant?
It doesn’t surprise me that you perked up to Hunter, Betsy. You are Hunter, too! You are the queen of hospitality and your generous enthusiasm makes each in these branches feel entirely special.
We all waited with baited breathe in earnestness for your return and report on your husband. And we were each praying for your hearts for your miracles which you so richly deserve.
Love you, friend. Keep tabs on Hunter if you can. She may need adoption herself. Oftentimes, we give the very things we need.

The models sure blew that forecast. Remember I told you that it would be running 5 to 11 degrees below normal for Easter in the east and be prepared to bundle up the kids for the Easter egg hunt? Well yesterday was a beautiful day here in Central Indiana! Short sleeve shirt weather for me.
I’ve given up on forecasts around here.
Last Monday we were supposed to get 2-3 inches of snow. We got 12. We were snowed in and I missed a day of work.
The next day was supposed to be another inch. We got 6. But at least I’d gone to a friend’s house in town 20 miles away who was below the snow line so I made it to work that day.
Northern tier state. There’s still snow on the ground and it was 80 today. Supposed to be 45 tomorrow.
I think they’ve cranked in so many “corrections” into their models that they don’t work any more.

We LOVE stick bugs. So funny.
I had a brightly colored wrought iron chair outside with a big fluffy cushion. And what prompted me… I’ll never know… discernment… I am sure… but I picked up the cushion before I sat down and found me a Walking Stick. And he turned his rectangular head to me and nodded as if saying “Top of the day to ya, darlin!”
I gently put the cushion back down and let him be. I would go out every day and repeat this ritual and he would be dutifully upside down, attached to my wrought iron chair. Ocassionally, he’d help himself into my large planted pots and wait patiently for his dinners.
Then, one day… I saw a lady friend of his underneath the cushion with him and thought… “ohhh… this is the day when my gentleman caller will be invited to lunch“… I put back the cushion and was a little sad.
It was a few days of “togetherness” with those two and then one day, they were no longer there. Quite unknown to me their disposition, but I can guess.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body so it is with Christ. – 1 Corinthians 12:12
Paul describes a comical scene of body parts disparaging each other, in order to make a point that Christ’s followers need one another. And just as the body has no life in itself, the body of Christ and its functions are empowered by the Holy Spirit.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6). Likewise, “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills” (1 Corinthians 12:11).
Picture the church with Christ as the head, the Father as the heart, and the Holy Spirit as the blood flowing throughout the body. Just as the body has no power without the head, heart, and blood neither does the church have any power without first yielding to the Holy Trinity.
Jesus describes it this way, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). It is important to yield your gifts, talents, and resources to the Lord and rely on His power to flow through you to reach others.
As you intercede for the United States, pray for the church to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to provide solutions to this country’s many problems. Continue to pray for the citizens and government officials to turn to the Lord and rely on His power and wisdom.

We have found a little church in our “new” neighborhood. I had a prayer that the congregation would come alive. The preaching was good, but the Pastor had some major adversity and was openly (and justifiably) weeping for his father-in-law who had entered hospice and quite literally led that church for 35 plus years. Not a single person went down to him to lay their hands on him, pray for him, lift him up. They sat stoically and silently and seemingly unaffected… and I was shocked.
For me, it was like watching a fellow soldier at war and he was wounded. I cannot… CANNOT (WON’T)… sit silent and merely spectate. So… I opened my mouth out loud, in front of about 2,000 people and yelled out:
“THE LORD LOVES YOU PASTOR AND SO DOES YOUR CHURCH! RIGHT CHURCH???!!!”
Phew.
Fortunately my 17 year old daughter is a warrior, too, and when I leaned over to apologize to her if I embarrassed her… she leaned into me and said “You had to do that, Mom”.
Kiddo and I were praying together and I implored the Lord to move the congregation. Release the chains and cause them to actively worship Him. If there was fear or reticence – liberate them!

We started singing and the Spirit started moving and next thing you know, it was hands up, clapping at the resurrection of Jesus and His conquering death, and people were SINGING and belting it out and my daughter leans over to me…”Your prayers were answered, Mom.”

Labels changing… which changes their chemical make up and nutritional values thus their production and trademarking???? Noticed this especially when tracking foods on a diet app – the quantities of nutrients, proteins, etc… kept shifting. Very, very odd.
The research and development side of me (that worked for an inorganic chemical manufacturer when I was knee high to a grasshopper) causes me to ponder these things especially with folks with allergies (?) so prevalent now.
Even when a company changes hands and these smaller manufacturers are absorbed into large multinationals… those trademarks and trade secrets and registrations… have to change hands.
Government has gotten SO BIG – We The People can’t keep track of them anymore which leaves them unfettered and seemingly invincible. That’s got to change.

Thank you juststeview. This topic has been on my mind since I saw the headline on the home page. I do not want to be ‘fed’ something I wouldn’t choose for myself. I will take the time and effort to go through the information now. As for Bio-Engineered products, I notice this on many products I’ve picked-up and put-down at ALDI. I’ve been shopping there for a few years, but I am particularly careful of what I choose to buy there, for example, European cheeses are plentiful and affordable. Locally grown produce and fruit are also available. But their frozen foods are another story. I can only pray the clear labeling is not done-away with in the future. May Almighty God Save us…Amen
…and it’s not only that sis…think about eating at restaurants. There is no way under the sun we could know what ingredients they used to prepare their foods. For the most part, restaurants use the cheapest ingredients to keep their profit levels high. 🙄
Agreed sister, either fortunately or unfortunately, we no longer eat in restaurants. We stopped when C19 restrictions set in and we have since cooked nearly every meal, I cook daily, sometimes for today and sometimes for ‘the next few days’. My fear is, as you mentioned earlier, that the food I buy from the grocer will no longer be trustworthy; I already have to avoid certain brands (Smithfield pork; seafood farmed in far-flung places) and spend more for better (known and sourced) foods. There’s a black angus farm up the road from here and they are excellent but becoming cost-prohibitive (ground beef $12/lb). It’s exactly what fundamentally changing America evil-doers had/have in mind. Praying for all of us…

He is overwhelmed and grateful, to a degree he cannot express, for the myriad prayers which were offered on his behalf, and which he credits for his miraculous (according to his surgeons) survival, as we can only call it. Thank you is not enough. And he sends his love to all💕
I will add this…
During Lent, I told Jesus I wanted to be closer to Him, desired that this Easter would be a special one. That was my prayer…
…and we all know God answers prayer.
But sometimes His answer comes in ways that are in no way as we might expect.
It is enough to say my prayer WAS answered, not only for me but also for my husband, in a terrifying trial which has strengthened our faith as no other answer would.
Almighty God and His blessings through mercies which we will give eternal praise and thanks to Him for, for as long as we have breath to offer them.

I think it is entirely possible that in order to achieve Celebrity Status (ugh), particularly amongst young Americans that they intentionally select individuals who can normalize Victim Identity.
When under 30-somethings identify as Victims and consequently begin to relish their ‘unique’ victimhood which confers upon them a sense of entitlement… to receive affirmation and positive attention from others, it’s real easy for them to be manipulated into the most unfortunate political ideologies.
It’s similar to age old cult tactics, where the Whole Big World is against the members which makes cultists easier to program, unifies them as a group and makes it easier for the cult programming to tenaciously adhere..
With the exception of a few events I’ve avoided television during my entire adulthood and am utterly astounded how all ages nowadays are so influenced by what they see and hear on TV and TikTok.
Sports stars and Hollyweirdos and other mass marketed well knowns should not be enabled to hold sway over the youth of a nation ….
It’s more than ludicrous, it’s actually downright evil.
TV, TikTok, YouTube, Google etc., ~ great tools of Satan! He’s very successful for the time being! I’m trusting God to just bring it to an end and halt all of his plans. Actually, it’s the only hope I have because the evil is so deeply imbedded that it will take a miracle to clean it all up.

Hi MoLa – Once you try – you may never make it any other way…. I influenced all of my sons friends over the years to ‘just try it’, you don’t have to eat it, just try’. I never once had to make a new one without the PB ever! If you’re a little reluctant to ‘go all the way’ into a BLT, tart by trying toast with PB and bacon… your taste buds will thank you…. I LOVE your input, thoughts and poems here monolabe….. I’m not much of a contributor, more of a chimer-inner as my writing is fantastic for scientific/technical things, but almost zilch for anything else. Ask me to write how to change a tire and I’m all in 🙂
