We have Ed Sullivan on MeTV on Sunday nights. Love the memories.
I’m really enjoying revisiting the original recordings from way-back-when. This was a time of almost magical discovery. Being 20 years old and in Texas was a decidedly dichotomous adventure. Just owning a single joint was a felony. Yet, one evening in the middle 60’s I found myself in a Montrose neighborhood party where I suddenly realized I didn’t know a single soul. I recognized absolutely nobody.
Definitely, this was one of those poignant life-moments where we are supposed to realize a great insight. My insight was to get out that place as quickly as politely possible. Definitely, this was one of those you-had-to-be-there moments. What it did for me was to teach an important lesson for a 20 year old: don’t do stupid things. If the cops had shown up—it being Houston that was something entirely possible—we’d have all gone to jail.
That event sticks in my memory because it was my initial introduction to the counter-culture. I can happily report that I managed to experience it all, remain sane, learn to be a decent social scientist, and—most important—teach myself that I didn’t like altering my state-of-consciousness.
I thought about inviting everyone to join me in a metaphorical 60’s joint. But the reality is that I’m enjoying a particularly good Kentucky bourbon sippin’ whisky. Entirely legal and I’ll sleep like a baby tonight.
I hope you enjoy these vintage Allmon Brothers recordings as much as I did selecting them. For me they really bring back good memories of a more innocent time . . . 🙂
Been there (figuratively speaking) and had almost the same reaction. Was fortunate to recognize the dangers of mind altering substances and avoid them for the rest of my adult life. I do enjoy a few sips of a smooth bourbon every once in a great while.
Allman Bros were a great band. These bring back memories of my college days. When Duane Allman was killed I recall it was a BFD among the fans..

My epiphany that left dogmas don’t allow for freedom and liberty was still some distance away.

Mornin’ Gramps. Trimming trees today. I use a pool extension duct taped to my trimmer head. That gives me about a 20ft reach so I don’t have to go to far up my ladder to reach the limbs.
Clearly, lots of treepes have a strong connection with the Allman Brothers music.. (not just because of the era in which it was created but also because it is justso darn good). It is amazing the emotions and memories that can be instantly drawn forward by music
Yep. My 20’s were interesting years. I went from rural kid to reasonably well educated, friendship with soon-to-be-famous musicians, and (in a Charlie Brown defining moment) encountering my Little Red Headed Girl who took me home with her. And through it all, we could be surrounded by Duane’s searing guitar riffs. The 60’s were definitely a time for guitar heroes. 🙂

Morning, friend. I’m thinking I need more of your wise counsel. Progress reports are out and it appears something is wrongfully AMISS and games and “signs” being played. Sigh. Knew it would happen.
However, on a STRONG note of ENCOURAGEMENT… kiddo gave a speech on overcoming obstacles and professed her faith in class. As did another student. That’s two. I’ll take two. Courageous students standing. AMEN!
I think I’ve mentioned that I was a terrible student. One thing I discovered I could do really well, however, was public speaking. I was a debater and forensics contestant. I know what your daughter’s speech before her class meant to her.
Building on her strengths this way is a path to self empowerment. If she has a strong self-image then the slings and arrows she’s going to encounter over the next couple of years won’t mean spit.
Remember my story about our dyslexic student who solved college level algebra problems in her head but, because of her ordering deficit, couldn’t explain the steps she took? If her teacher’s had a treatment plan, explaining her specific needs and solutions (like extra time on tests, etc.) I wouldn’t have had to come in and solve that problem that didn’t need to happen. Fortunately, her new teacher (my buddy Elwood) knew exactly what to do and she finished college algebra with a solic “B” in spite of the problem she had with her first prof.
What will be most useful for your daughter (and you) is for everyone in your daughter’s class and admin rotation to be reading from the same page—all her teachers need to know what high-functioning autism is, what she can do well , what she can’t do well what class and class-work accommodations (such as extra time on exams and written assignments, etc.) are appropriate. Also with everyone concerned aware of who your daughter is having strengths and weaknesses explained will be very useful in resolving future problems.
The best way to do this is for your credentialed ADA specialist to write a letter to the ADA officer at your district explaining exactly who your daughter is and what she needs. The school will then be legally responsible for informing everybody in your daughter’s path of what your specialist said in the letter.
Although I doubt they will try this, if the school offers to have their credentialed specialist evaluate your daughter—tell them no and then consult with the specialist you hired to represent you. Those kinds of decisions are yours and you’re daughter’s to make.
In the meantime, since you got along well with the principal talk to him about your concerns and ask his advice about what to do to avoid future problems. You may find a new ally or you may get zip, but it’s worth a try.
Finally, as I mentioned the other night, I think you are doing everything right. When I was a principal if I had a mom as well informed and committed as you are in my office I’d be silently cheering because we’d both be on the same side.
The games and “signs” you mention are worrisome and are probably the result of needed communication up and down the line. That, however, is something you and your credentialed specialist can work on with the district ADA office. If everybody is expected to read from the same page the BS will stop in a hurry.
So, keep in touch. And, also, I’m pretty good at reading between the lines so let’s continue to protect your daughter’s privacy by avoiding specifics. Take care, darlin’. Talk soon. 🙂
Straight A’s in English, Agriculture, Basic Skills, and Geometry.
Straight F’s (don’t pass go don’t collect $200 – not even a smidgen of credit)
Spanish – liberal “don’t wear faith-based tshirts” – “I didn’t say that. Your daughter doesn’t know difference between holey jeans and holy.” She’s also the coach for the social studies academic team. How does a failing kid get on academic team?
Biology – liberal – told us we “should get rid of our cat – it was a distraction” – our cat was dying of cancer
Speech – she’s given speeches. She’s done work. Maybe incorrectly… so I could see a D if it’s iffy, but a full blown F? She just professed her faith there, as did another student. My daughter can give excellent speeches, intonation, inflection, hand gestures… so I could see a C or D… if there were content issues… but under no circumstances an F as if she didn’t even show up to the course.
How does a student get A’s in those other things and the yin to that yang in the other?
We just had IEP meeting last week where resource teacher was encouraged about her self managing and getting things turned in on time. Not a word about this to me.
This report card blew me away and why wouldn’t the academic coach (Spanish teacher) have said a peep about it? 2 of those 3 team members that placed as my daughter had didn’t have the study books needed. I easily found for $16.99 on Amazon and had delivered the next day!
I don’t want to be “that mom” who thinks grades should be fluid and coerced… but I want my daughter graded on quantitative and qualitative and not on opinion. It gives me no faith in the academic system.
We are resigned to simply survive this and not aspire to college at this point… though my daughter loves to learn. I’ve resigned that she’s going to have to take all pre-requisites at a junior college until she matures more to a 4 year degree.
Garrison, feel terribly about “public airing” and I don’t want to further kidnap this board… but the state of public education in this country has been surrendered to the clowns.
And now I have to go to court for a court order to advocate for my daughter passed the age of 18 as she will be a senior and graduate (hopefully) at 19.

College isn’t for everyone. I only had one year unset my belt and achieved what I did. No apologies.
But something smells funny to me. And this liberal weirdness overtaking our schools.. it is as if they have her dangling over a cliff.. saying THEY are in charge of her success or failure.
I still know fully… she will achieve what The Lord has in mind for her to do. They can’t stop Him.
First of all. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with attending a community college. I have a bias of course because I taught at one for 25 years. We had a constant flow of students coming to us for “academic tuneups” after crashing in their expensive universities.
Community colleges are a great way to get the basics out of the way.
Most people don’t realize that the actual course content of basic courses is virtually identical to very expensive universities good community colleges. That’s something those elite and expensive universities ain’t gonna’ tell you. 🙂
The IEP meeting you didn’t know about is most disturbing because deficit related stuff was discuss and you were not informed. If this information is used in assigning a grade, that illegal.
ADA law provides for “reasonable accommodations” to be made to assist cognitively challenged student to better succeed in class.
A big one of these accommodations is providing extra time for assignments, being reminded, having counseling sessions, and other aids designed to around those cognitive challenges.
You have every right to ask why these kinds of decisions were being made without your knowledge.
Somewhere in that district is the person who handles ADA issues, who actually knows what a “reasonable accommodation” is. They might just prove to be an advocate for your daughter. Do you have a credentialed ADA specialist (like a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist) that you work with? As I mentioned, it’s very useful to have your own advocate talk to their advocate/specialist.
I know I keep saying this. but you are actually doing a great job advocating for your daughter. The problem is that you’ve encountered some opaque decision making that has surprised you. Keep asking your cogent question and you’ll get through this. Take care, love. And stay in touch. 🙂

Happy Caterday, Treeper friends. Pet your kitty for me. Little ‘Tink, by tiny little back foundling kitty, has finally decided that sleeping ON me is better than sleeping elsewhere. So, about 2am I now feel a familiar weight draped across my midsection. I don’t like to sleep on my back which is what ‘Tink would obviously prefer so, instead, she finds her own comfortable place to sleep—on me. But, that’s ok, she really doesn’t weigh all that much being so small. In fact I find her climbing onto me in the early morning rather comforting. Her calming purr is most welcome. Really 🙂
When I wake up on my side with my cat draped across my midsection like a set of saddle bags her 6 lb heft feels like 60!

Garrison, I used to do this with a friend of mine – we would ice skate across the lake and find the feed stream/river and play for hours breaking up ice and trying not to fall in. Needless to say – you totally get wet feet and don’t go home until ‘you’re done’. I ‘ski-dooed’ with another friend near her house where if we could scrape together $5, we could rent the machines across the road at a farm. SO much fun! Thanks for bringing back the old and dear memories, sir. No kitties here but I’ll pet our puppies for you.

My roof in a low-slope almost flat structure surrounded by a parapet wall. I have a really good ladder and it is quite easy to reach—even for an old guy like me. I know my limitations, love. Funny story. I was standing in line at the roofing supply wearhouse. It was just me and about a dozen “real” roofers—guys who weren’t all that much younger than me, btw.
The line was moving slowly so, finally, one of the roofers growing curious looked at me and said “are you a roofer”? I laughed and said, “No I’m an anthropologist!” They got the joke. 🙂
JWoo, I did listen to your advice and that of my other Treeper friends. I have a giant tree in the backyard that I used to easily trim. Getting setup to do the work today convinced me—thanks to you, darlin’—I just wasn’t up to doing that work anymore. And you know what—I didn’t feel bad about it one bit. Instead, I felt this huge wash of relief after I called our yard guy and told him to send his guys to trim the tree. There’s nothin’ wrong admitting that you’ve just gotten too d#am old to do some chores. Discretion really is the better part of valor . . . especially when it comes to old guys trimming big trees. 🙂
Garrison… there’s just too many things that can happen with falling limbs and balance. We would not wish an unfortunate accident.
I am growing to realize that just because I know how to do something, doesn’t make it wise to do it all by myself.
Additionally, I can’t emphasize enough the value of an elders wise counsel and you’ve got lots more instruction and stories to share with the Tree. Let’s make sure you’re not in a sling while doing it!

Listen to rah, Garrison. My uncle thought he was still able to climb the ladder to clean out the bird house. The ladder slipped and he fell. It was the event that triggered his eventual passing as he never recovered from his injuries.

Barbershop is an old genre, replaced in popularity this century generally by 5-part (or more) acapella groups, employing the 5th voice as the Beatbox (vocal percussion).
Factoid: 97 year old Dick Van Dyke has been an avid Barbershopper for the past 20+years; even had his own quartet – “Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix” based in Los Angeles. Not sure if they’re still active…

DVD was (is) an amazing talent. I used to watch his show as a child and of course love him with Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins. Who doesn’t love him?
Agree on DVD. Not surprisingly, his quartet performed a lot of tunes from Mary Poppins. You can find some of those performances – sometimes impromptu in restaurants – on YouTube.

Well, she was the love of my life, my “Little Red Headed Girl” (allusion to Charlie Brown) who took me home with her. She was only the second Great Love of my life. We trusted each other implicitly. Were loyal to each other implicitly. She was my life=partner for 55 years. And, yep, when I saw her it was love-at-first-sight for me, anyway.

I know, Ad rem. I never have doubts about this because our faith has always been strong and Our Lord has always been in my life. After 18 years of caregiving, I knew her time was near. I’m just so thankful that Our Lord heard my prayer and allowed her to pass over to Him as gently as could be. She just went to sleep and didn’t wake up. 🙂

I used to make that San Fran commute through the Altamont Pass from Stockton every morning. Used to think the wind mills were so interesting in an artistic kind of way. Now that we have a band up the 65 corridor through W. Lafayette, IN – I see them as invasions, much the same way I see the massive farmland grab here up that same stretch of highway – as absolutely criminal. What were those people in church then supposed to do? Does anyone here have any idea what it was really like for normal Germans? You have NO IDEA! Of course it is horrible to watch; how unspeakable to watch and have absolutely no power to do anything!
It is ironic, how they used those words of Jesus to mock what Jesus commands us! and make the Christian feel guilty for the wickedness of the Antichrist mobs who wanted that and voted for that. Have you never seen any footage from the rallies that were held, and how they screamed in ecstasy when that little disgusting man gave his speeches?
I do not approve of this so-called message! Jesus’ commandments are to be obeyed. And when the country becomes so wicked, that such a thing is brought upon it;how is it the Christians who take responsibility? Apostasy causes these things. But real Spirit filled believers who walk in meekness of faith and obedience, ARE NOT the ones to be blamed, or the ones called in to fight against the wicked. Jesus and all His faithful Martyrs are our role models. THAT is real courage and integrity!
That’s just like the devil, slander the words of Jesus, and make the Christians look like the cowards and traitors; when it was HIS people that did all of it; and got to go live in the US and Argentina afterwards.
It is really amazing to me, how easily manipulated people can be by their emotions; and how they don’t think things through all the way! If you are Bible believing Christians, and love Jesus, and sing to Him every day how much you love Him, and want to yield and surrender all the way; how do you sit so easy with listening to His word and His Spirit being mocked and ridiculed?
If we don’t follow Jesus and bear His cross; we will not be His disciples, and we will not be His true and faithful witnesses. The time to prevent these things from happening is almost gone. Only National repentance can turn away what God is sending for punishment of this hypocritical nation.

It’s a good thing King David didn’t recoil in fear. That whole scene could have played out a lot differently.
David refused to lift up his sword against Saul; even when God delivered him into his hands twice. He was a man of war from his youth, against the enemies of Israel; but his Psalms are full of the sufferings of Christ, that he partook in, without fighting against them, but bringing them to God in prayer. David was mightily filled with the Holy Spirit from the day that Samuel anointed him. That’s why he had to bear the afflictions and persecutions for Christ’s sake. He didn’t fight against his persecutors, but trusted God for his righteousness and recompense of reward.

Dear JWoo, what is there to misunderstand? If Jesus’ kingdom were of this world THEN would His attendants fight; but now His kingdom is not of this place. Please take some time to prayerfully read through the Sermon on the Mount again. Beginning with the Beatitudes, Jesus lays out what Spirit we are of; and continues to describe what it means to really have the kingdom of God within us, in how we love and be perfect from the heart, like our father in heaven loves and is perfect; and waits for the fullness of time to bring the day of reckoning.
If the world is to know that Jesus has come by our love for one another, and we are commanded by Jesus to love those who cannot love us back; by what right do we then take up a defense, when it is our gentleness and meekness in Christ, that the Holy Spirit uses to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment? Remember, the dove only lights upon the Lamb; He does not light upon a tiger!
If we want to really be of service to the Lord, we can only do so through His Spirit. We are not called to be a part of the political affairs of the men of this world; for God is the One who puts anyone in power. And our calling is to announce the Glad Tidings, and purify ourselves and make ourselves fit for Him to use us to undo the works of the devil in the Spirit realms; NOT IN THE FLESH!

Michael, I’m not looking to disagree with you. I just have a different take on it. I don’t think this video is mocking God at all. I think you’ve missed the point of it. All along the way there were things that could have been done; but people, good people, looked the other way; not my problem. But at some point it does become our problem and we have to decide how we face it. Do we just sing louder to drown out what we don’t want to face or do we find the courage and,yes, Christian conviction to try to do something. I truly don’t believe Jesus would have just sung louder.
What was the Text that the pastor was preaching on? What was the expressed intention of the message? Why did the author of this thing choose specifically those words of Jesus? To mock and ridicule and castigate the meekness of Christ; WHICH IS HIS COMMANDMENT FOR US!
Philippians 3:17-19 “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)”
How many hundreds of Scriptures do people who profess faith in Christ, and subjection to His Spirit, need, before they finally understand what spirit they are of? There is a world of difference between the good Samaritan, and the disciples taking up the sword against the temple guards. Corrie Ten Boom and her family were real Christians; and they sacrificed themselves to help those who were in grave life danger. But they did not join or form militias to fight against the Nazis! when the time came that they themselves were taken, they did not resist! They took up their cross and followed Jesus!
This militant and defiant spirit comes not from God; but the same one who slanders and falsely accuses those who tell them the word of God!
John 16:2 “They shall work against you from out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.”
Matthew 24:12 “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”
There’s a traditional story in Foxes Book of Martyrs, about how when Peter was about to be condemned at Rome, he wanted to escape;and then he was given a vision of Christ bearing His cross and walking beck into the city of Rome. Peter asked Him what He was doing that for; and the Lord replied, that He was going up again to be crucified: Peter understanding the message, repented, and returned to face his appointed end; and requested that he be crucified upside down, because he was not worthy to suffer in the same way his Lord did.
Christians today have no idea what the cross is; and every time someone tries to point out the Scriptures, and the sense and the meaning, they get angry and aggressive and contradict. Where is all the professed love and repentance and forsaking self and the world? Its too busy fighting Jesus from going to the cross, ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES!
At some point the Spirit gives up striving with people, for that they also are flesh. And the destruction of the world is then all that God has left to do. When there is no more good and honest hearts to receive His word, and bring forth fruit; then there’s no more reason for delaying the end; for there is no more healing, and no works of power, because of their unbelief.
1 Samuel 17 speaks volumes and more loudly than you do. David was a mighty hero. And there were countless others like him. A courageous man after God’s Own Heart.
You want control. You want control over others and for those to genuflect before you, not God.

You know the saying, When you point your finger you have three pointing back at you? He that waters, is himself also watered. If we don’t read the word and first examine ourselves, to set in order our account with God; how can we fairly judge anyone else? And we are to watch for one another; we are our brother’s keeper; we are not to hate our brother in our heart, and allow sin to be upon him.
Name one thing I wrote, that is not of the Spirit and mind of God? I’m not looking to find fault with anyone; but if you see something wrong, you should say something, right? Additionally, in case you didn’t know; the kingdom and the dominion was taken away from Israel, and given to the nations until the Day of the Lord. The way Jesus behaved under His trial and execution, is our model. That which Jesus taught for us to be His disciples, is our rule, and our law. To the natural mind, the cross is foolishness and weakness and failure; but we do not answer to natural man’s thoughts, but to God, who has given us His Son for an example, and His Spirit for our teacher and guide.
Each of us has to decide what kind we are, and whose spirit we believe. I am truly sorry if you don’t believe what I’m telling you; but its the Lord who I have to answer to. And the things He says is how I have to direct my choices and actions. If you really think that your kind of reasoning makes void all that Jesus taught, then go your way as you think best. I think you are making a serious mistake, and letting your temper block your better judgment.

If you can point out specifically what I wrote that is not of the Lord, and unscriptural, please show me; but your simply being angry and saying, Who made you a judge over us? does not make the words I say from God, anything less for you to hear.

3/25/2023 – The Sign of Jonah the Prophet
Matthew 12:38-41 “Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from You. But He answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah: for as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.”
Jonah 1:17 “Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”
In a day when vast multitudes of devoutly religious of all kinds are seeking a sign from heaven; this answer which the Lord gave to this, is most important to understand. The ones demanding a sign from the Lord, were not His anxious followers; but devout enemies, taunting Him to show some spectacular display: not because they were discerning the times, but because they wanted to prove that Jesus was a fake and a terrible criminal. So it was in view of those who were demanding this from the Lord, that we should start our study.
Jesus answered them in the way they deserved to be answered, with rebuke, and no answer: “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it . . . ” There are a multitude of variations on that same theme of the Lord’s enemies; who sit themselves down in the seat of the scornful, with only contempt for the Lord Jesus Christ, and relentless antagonism and contention. Jesus here gives us the perfect example of how to deal with those kinds: you do not get into arguments with them, and you do not let them suck you into worthless wasting of your time.
The answer was not to prove anything to them: God isn’t the one that has to prove to ungodly men! But the answer is, NO sign shall be given to YOU! This is all on the same lines as God revealing the mysteries of wisdom and knowledge in Christ, ONLY to those whom He chooses; and the rest are blinded. The reason for the vast multitudes of the human race being completely ignorant, and just going on every day, utterly clueless, until the day Jesus Comes; is because God has shut their eyes, and hardened their hearts, so they cannot know; because they refused the knowledge of the truth, and would none of God’s warnings or reproofs.
Jesus always directed everyone, especially those who opposed Him; to the Scriptures, to know and understand all things. Jesus had all those things in His heart, because He was there for all of them; and He knows ALL that they mean. There is all the knowledge we need to understand what the Lord was referring to, when He spoke about Jonah being three days and three nights in the whale’s belly. The prophet’s description of the horrors, even as brief as they are, were given to him by inspiration of the Holy Spirit for revealing what Messiah would have to endure in order to redeem us. Jesus had to go to hell.
When Jonah was in the belly of the fish, it was blacker than pitch black, and no room to move. He was tossed up and down, and round from every side, with weeds wrapped around his head; all in the dark, and in the uttermost continual panic and hopeless claustrophobia. We can’t even imagine the grace to have the composure and presence of mind to pray in such an unimaginable horror; but Jonah did, by the grace of God, for instructing us unto Christ. Three days and three nights must have felt like eternity; especially since Jonah had no way to know if that wasn’t his end. Jesus also had to endure all things by faith; so we can fairly believe, that even while knowing the scriptures, and Himself being the eternal Son of God; still the Bible says, that he learned obedience by the things He suffered. The experience and the trial was nonetheless real; while He waited for it all to be finished.
While the enemies of the Lord in all the innumerable false religions of the world, are seeking to pick a fight and find fault with Jesus; in the end they will all be lined up next to those like the men of Nineveh; and made to give account why they who knew so much more then those, did not repent.
It would be good for all of us, to spend much more time than we do, looking into and really studying and asking God for understanding, about the Lord’s sufferings on our behalf. There are plenty of places in the Bible especially dedicated to explaining all of it in great detail; and all for most important reasons in God’s estimation. We should have the same interest to know them, as God has had to give us these things.

Hah! I grew up having Kraft Pimento Cream Cheese as a staple in our refrigerator. I loved that concoction, as well as their variant that added sliced green olives as well. My aways-thrifty mother (who grew up during the Great Depression) retained the little glass jars and used them as orange or tomato juice glasses. …
Nowadays one cannot find Kraft Pimento Cream Cheese in stores in our area…. Don’t know if they stopped making it or, like many other foods, the raw materials were impeded or blocked.

Good for smearing on crackers, celery, or bread. Especially toasted bread.

I’ve tried local versions from various deli cases…. just not the same. Not as smooth and creamy plus they whip it up too much and make it “fluffy’. Not great.
It’s easy as pie…
8 ounces of extra sharp cheddar. Using grater, grate cheese onto plate.
One small jar pimentos. Drain liquid, and mash pimentos. Add to cheese.
Add mayonnaise. (We like Kraft.) Start by adding tablespoon at a time till it reaches consistency you like, but not too soupy. Can always add more later if desired, but can’t take it out!
And just keep mashing/stirring together, folding over, till blended.
Add sprinkle cayenne. (Optional if you like a kick)
Recently saw a recipe like mine, except had sprinkle of garlic powder.
Whatever suits your fancy…
It’s more flavored after a day or two in fridge.
I refuse to eat deli pimento cheese.
As with many things, just keeping experimenting with a recipe till it becomes your specialty!

My recipe is a block of cream cheese or neufchatel (sp) and a jar of chopped pimento blended together in a small food processor. It’s close to the jarred and I haven’t figured out what’s missing.

Hmm, I grew up the same. Our juice glasses were the pimento cheese jars and the dried beef. Today I make my own pimento cream cheese spread. I like it better than what Mississippians make. I think it’s a texture thing.

Joe, along with everybody and his brother, got the long range forecast for last years hurricane season wrong in the count of storms. But he was correct about where the storms that would impact the US were likely to hit.
Now that I am going to have the money, I’m going to pay for his premium site and will be able to share even more complete longer range forecasts.
That would be super, Rob. The number he have missed on but I’d consider location more important.
One thing for certain…the idea that man has any control over either the climate or weather is made a mockery of with occurrences such as yesterday. The height of hubris.

Two months ago the needle was left on the line between neutral and La Nina. Last week at this time the needle was straight up and down on the center neutral line. Now look at it! That is a lot of movement in just one week.

Most adults can follow simple directions like traffic rules and recipes but, if you have ever tried to put together a desk from a big box store, then you know following directions is not always as easy as it appears. Several times in the Bible, Jesus specifically tells His disciples to follow Him. However, like the desk construction, they found following Christ harder than it initially appeared, and perhaps you do, too!
Jesus did not ask his disciples to blindly follow, he added a critical component: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Life for a disciple of Christ requires an intentional discipline of sacrifice and self-control. That level of following is impossible to achieve without the Holy Spirit’s help. The risen Christ’s power is sufficient to lead you in a Christ-like life. Yet God, in His mercy, also provides people, just like you, to be living examples of what “following Christ” looks like.
The apostle Paul pointed to himself as such an example, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). And he went further, encouraging those watching his life to practice the things that made him a dedicated follower.
Can you identify someone whose spiritual journey you would like to emulate? Whether a character from history or a person down the street, note what makes their life honoring to God and PRACTICE those habits yourself!
Pray for men and women serving America to discover Godly examples to inspire and follow in fulfilling their roles today.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

In order to maintain this friendship and loyalty to the Bridegroom, we have to be more careful of our moral and vital relationship to Him than of any other thing, even of obedience. Sometimes there is nothing to obey, the only thing to do is to maintain a vital connection with Jesus Christ, to see that nothing interferes with that. Only occasionally do we have to obey. When a crisis arises we have to find out what God’s will is, but the greater part of the life is not conscious obedience but the maintenance of this relationship – the friend of the Bridegroom. Christian work may be a means of evading the soul’s concentration of Jesus Christ. Instead of being friends of the Bridegroom, we may become amateur providences, and may work against Him whilst we use His weapons.

The basic count has increased because:
We detect more tornadoes now due to technology improvement and coverage by Doplar radar.
The population of the country continues to increase and disperse.
The number and dispersion of trained spotters had continues to increase.
However even though the NOAA is showing 1,200 or more tornadoes detected per year in the US the count of violent storms, EF-3 or higher, has actually been going down. All of the increased numbers are from reporting of EF-0,1, and 2s. Weaker storms that rarely cause fatalities.
During the spring of 1920, Mississippi had four tornado outbreaks resulting in fatalities. One of which killed over 100 people.
