You know something? When I used to hear about Mike Pence’s policy of never meeting a woman without his wife present, a policy he copied from Franklin or Billy Graham, I would think, “so what? If that’s what he wants to do, he either must not be able to trust himself or thinks he’s irresistible, but if he wants his wife along, who cares?”
Later on I had reason to change my mind on this. I read a female reporter’s complaint that when she was supposed to meet with the VP (doing her job), he told HER to bring someone along as a chaperone.
That got me thinking. Franklin Graham, or whoever it was Pence was copying, was the head of his own organization, not someone in elected office. If he wanted to set an example for his fellow evangelists, not to put temptation in their paths, that’s one thing.
But here we had something else- a Vice President treating a member of the press like a harlot or something, and putting the onus on her to keep their meeting above board.
The more I think about it, the more I think what a self-righteous holier-than-thou jerk.
I agree in this circumstance. If it was a work dinner and he always wanted more than two I could see it, but treating journalists or anyone else differently while doing his work as an elected official is not ok. His policy should have been to require all journalists to bring a chaperone.

Or at least, that’s how it should be.

Anyone care to bet if she passed any form of advanced mathematics — you know, like for example Calculus or Statistics? Do you think she understood exponents and why this graph made clear that concentration of risk and duration was stupid and likely to blow up in everyone’s face — including hers?
How about Bill Ackman and the others on the Internet screaming for a bailout? How about the CFOs of public companies like Roku that stuck several hundred million dollars in said bank? Was it not widespread public knowledge (and available to anyone who took 15 minutes to do research, which you’d think someone would do before putting a hundred million bucks somewhere) that this institution was chock-full of VC-funded startup companies which, historically fail 90% of the time and their debt becomes impaired or even worthless?
Where are the indictments for fiduciary malfeasance among these people?
