President Trump only put tariffs on countries that had tariffs on American imports and refused President Trump’s request to remove them. The news media completely misrepresented the reciprocal tariffs that President Trump used. Germany and the rest of Europe had 25% tariffs on American products like automobiles and trucks while European cars were imported into the US tariff free!

The video clearly shows a train car with a locked axle and flames coming from it. Derailment is inevitable once the locked axle’s wheels wear flat and the wheel flanges, which keeps the wheels on the rail, wear away.
It appears the crew pulled the car in this conditiom for 20 miles before the derailment.
Wayside hot bearing detectors (hotbox) are designed to see a heat signature from an overhearted axle journal bearing and alert the crew before bad things happen. They read every passing axle and read the reults to the crew operating the train. Ignored by the crew?

The train whistle was always a comforting sound because it was the sound of home. Not so much any more. That could easily have happened right in the middle of main street in a town of 4,000.

I wouldn’t know how NS detectors interface with the locomotive PTC, but the detectors clearly anounce in English to the crew the car scanned and if one of its journal bearings is hot or not.
The video said the crew put the train in emergency braking after they received the signal, but it’s not clear to me which detector alerted them. It sounds to me like the detector a mile out of town, but they pulled the train well over 20 miles with the hot bearing/locked axle and they may have passed an earlier one.
Maybe they were trying to reach a siding so they could cut out the car and not block the mainline. Changing out an axle or truck in the field is expensive, and more so if you a blocking train traffic or you can’t get cranes to the site.

How widely spaced are axle detectors? I only know what they broadcast, not their spacing. 20 miles seems like a lot. Can they be sabotaged? I recall past sabotage of signal systems with track wires.

Well now, that changes basically everything.
“An elderly Arizona rancher charged with murder and held on $1 million bond in connection to the shooting of a man believed to be a Mexican national on his border property, allegedly fired “warning shots” after an armed group “pointed an AK-47 right at him,” his defense attorney says.”
He was charged with first-degree, premeditated murder. In other words he intended to kill; the formation of intent is critical to that charge.
But, the facts record that he made three calls to federal authorities and reported in the first one armed men with rifles, in camouflaged clothing and packs on his land, one of whom he also reported pointed a weapon directly at him. He fired warning shots that were intentionally aimed over their heads.
Importantly: The alleged report from the “federal liaison” falsely reported he did not know if the men were armed. The radio dispatch tapes prove this report was false as the radio dispatcher stated that armed men were reported in the area.
The decedent was unarmed but had a radio with him and thus was not some random person. However, not being in camo he likely wasn’t part of the group that threatened the rancher. At this point we don’t even have ballistics to show that he was in fact shot by the rancher! The rancher reported one gunshot on his property that he did not initiate; its possible the deceased was in fact executed by the people who were carrying the rifles.
Yet said rancher has been charged with premeditated murder.
Maybe it is a fact that he indeed did kill this person but from the facts currently on the table we can’t even reasonably establish that he was the person who fired the shot that led to death.
Yes, I know, this is all presentation by his defense attorney, who would be expected to present things in the best possible light. However, the facts currently in public evidence do not appear to support such a charge as it hasn’t even been established that the rancher’s weapon was the one that is the only reasonable source of the deceased’s injury.

The time for defense IMO is prior to arrest. Challenge the Communist’s soldiers before they get their claws into a patriot. That’s what happened at the Bundy standoff. Further, the rancher appears to be a quite docile, peace-loving, non-violent person so taking direct action in his aid would likely not sit well with him. The current methods of support IMO satisfy his goals. Finding independent, non-Communist and/or non-grifting legal counsel would be another goal. We remember the challenges Kyle faced and how counsel change assisted him. Still, difficult row to hoe.

The north/south rail traffic is truly immense.

Yep, where I live we, or the enemy, can take out one key bridge and no fuel gets in, even if there is some. It all comes by double-double tanker truck through the mountains.
Long before Brandon’s fuel shortages and high prices locals have dealt with that reality when, well, the tankers didn’t make it and none of the few stations in town had any fuel. Hence, that’s why we have a reserve at home.
Comparably, regions served by pipelines for end product have a potentially more efficient, less costly, more secure option. That doesn’t address the crude pipeline issue at all, just end product. Pipelines are, and have been, a solid , reliable, efficient option.

The similarities between East Palestine and Chernobyl have had me reflecting on the past, and what I saw in Kiev when I was there just after Yeltsin and the tanks.
All of the state infrastructure of apparatchiks was still in place (matron hall monitors to watch the furriners), but it was clear that social order had broken down (wandering out of work army bands playing for tips in the squares, one legged Afghan war vets on the streets, military hats and pins for sale to tourists, people displaying household goods on the sidewalk to earn a buck, and prostitution everywhere).
It is strange how learning something new can change your perception of the past.
In Kiev, in the main square, very happy men were handing out Ukrainian passport covers. I thought it was an organic demonstration of a nation breaking free from the Soviet system, a grassroots movement welling up into a physical token of future pride.
Thirty cynicism-producing years later, two things have happened. First, I learned about Operation Gladdio, where the CIA and allied DS intelligence groups, with I believe the assistance of the Vatican, embedded themselves in the Ukraine as a covert rear guard/vanguard.
Second, time and again, across demonstrations in the US, pre-printed signs have “appeared” and been handed out to passers by, to create a false impression of the reality on the ground.
So, now I look back and ask myself – those “Ukrainian passports” cost money to print up. They weren’t just little flimsy pieces of paper either, at a time when the local women were still very practiced at elbowing their way through the bread line or to the one or two items for sale in the “shopping mall.”
And I ask myself, who printed the passports? Using what money? Did my sweat and labor taken in taxes actually end up back in my hands, funneled through the black budget?
So here we are, and the US is starting to look like the post cold war Soviet Union. Men are out fomenting ethnic division and social unrest, using taxpayer dollars to create illusions, and spinning narratives out of the thinnest of realities for the gullible.
Which is to say, I guess, don’t take any wooden nickles or hold up any political signs some guy just happened to want to give you, and don’t buy anything anyone is selling without kicking the tires on it several times over.
I only use home-made signs: gets me into far much more trouble.

It just seems to me that if these Republicans that are announcing to run for President really cared about our country, MAGA, and the America First movement they would get behind President Trump and help him get re-elected. He would only have four years and could go after the Establishment and corrupt government institutions.
To me, the ones that really helped do this would position themselves for a cabinet position and be a strong candidate for the 2028 Presidential election.
But, I think, they don’t put country first. They put themselves first and by running in 2024 they will weaken President Trump and the MAGA movement. And, I bet they will strengthen the Establishment within the Republican Party. Which may be the plan all along.
Competition will just make him even more fierce as a candidate in the long run. Nothing sets off President Trump like someone nipping at his heels.
Imo, it won’t weaken PT at all. It will be 2016 all over again when he knocks them over like bowling pins. What other hats in the ring weaken is the argument the Governor is the only alternative.
Some believe the competition will make Trump stronger. Maybe so and I hope you are right. I know there are lots of people within the Republican Party organizing to take Trump out. That would include not only Establishment Republicans in Washington, but also state government (Governors) and conservative pundits.
Trump surprised them in 2016. They really thought ole Jeb would win with no problem. The opposition is much better organized and highly committed to get Trump out of politics. So you add the Republican opposition, the media, the courts, and Hollywood types it’s going to be tough.
The Establishment Republican theme “New Generation Of Republicans” may catch on. Even some Trump supporters are waffling toward DeSantis.
Not trying to be negative here. I really think President Trump must win for our country to have a chance of beginning a recovery. We have to, have to, clean out Washington, get our educators back on track, our justice system and Rule Of Law back, our military back…….
I don’t think Trump can fix all this, and more, in four years, but I do think he’s the only one that can make significant process in cleaning this mess up.

I have not been on a date in over 6 years because I really just did not feel like trying.
