Readers probably won’t be surprised to learn that in December, the House Democrats adopted a rule that the J6 Committee materials they were going to send to the National Archives must be sequestered from release for 30 years.
It will be interesting to see if the National Archives drags its heels or refuse to cooperate.
Of course, the J6 Committee did release some of its materials in December 2022.
Among them was a spreadsheet revealing the Social Security numbers of Trump officials and Republican governors, as well as nearly 2,000 other people who visited the Trump White House in December 2020.

If the old House (e.g., the Jan 6th clown show) deems the records too sensitive to be disclosed for 30 years, the new House can reverse that decision and direct the Archives to return those records. The old house cannot limit the actions the new house can take. This needs to be one of the first things McCarthy and the House need to do to show whether they will be serious about disclosure and holding people accountable. One of the other first items McCarthy needs to do is to disclose the testimony of Michael Atkinson used by Schiff during the impeachment. If memory serves me correctly, his testimony was the only testimony Schiff did not disclose. Likely it will show conspiracy against the President.
Accident or not, they should be held financially liable.
Well, let’s see if this new Republican-led Congress can undo that rule. After all, if we’ve learned anything these past few years about politics, rules are meant to be broken, and sometimes just made to disappear!
The people who had their social security numbers (and some, like President Trump and Governor Noem their spouses and children’s social security numbers) released surely they have the rights of discovery and hold those who did the releasing to account – because that’s actually a crime. No committee has the right to break laws. Rules are one thing, but laws are something else and those carry penalties of personal responsibility.
Diane Feinstein’s “oops, I was on cold medicine” excuse will not work for staffers or committee members.

You will rarely hear about Donald Trump being a unifier in the fairly biased media coverage about him on both sides of the Atlantic. But new House Speaker Kevin McCarthy knows that he would not have been elected without the help of the former President bring the warring Republican factions together.
Victory for Trump
The most significant thing to come out of the events in Congress is that the narrrative of the so-called “establishment Republicans” that the midterms killed off Trump’s presidential hopes could not be further wrong.
It is worth noting that the Trumpists in Congress may only be a relatively small group but within the wider Republican Party his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement is far bigger.
Even a critic like former national security adviser John Bolton estimates that it is 30 percent of the party.
Trump proved ahead of the midterms that if he endorsed a Republican candidate they got selected – 98 percent of his endorsements succeeded.
Now he has proven to an establishment Republican like McCarthy that he needed the former President too.
This will not be a one way deal. McCarthy and his supporters now owe Trump.
It will be interesting to see if they now get behind his nomination to give Trump a broader ticket.
But whatever happens Trump has shown his many GOP rivals like Florida governor Ron DeSantis that he still is the top name for the ticket in 2024 and he holds sway in the Republican Party and is far from being politically dead.

MAGA’s biggest impact will come from working at the state / local level, getting the computers removed from your state / local elections, curtailing the mail in ballots to only the needy ones, one day voting, not weekly or monthly voting, voter ID, cleaned up voter lists, etc. That is a LOT OF WORK TOO AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FEDS.

It is incredible when timelines collide: somehow, the TOGETHER Trial story we’ve been focusing on in this Substack intersects with a global financial fraud such as FTX.
In short, yes, FTX did fund TOGETHER, and the TOGETHER team falsely claimed that they received no funds from FTX before May 2022. The principal investigators, with their statement to Reuters, are obscuring a $3.25m grant by FTX that must have been provided to them before May 2022, given that FTX was listed as a funder on the TOGETHER website since March 3, 2022 at the latest. We can speculate why they did that, but the bottom line is that TOGETHER is once more obscuring the public record.
And in case any long-time readers are wondering: no, TOGETHER has not yet provided the data they originally committed to make available in March 2022. From speaking to someone with knowledge of internal communications of the TOGETHER team, they have made a decision not to publish the data at all. Hopefully this will change.
