Wow—When I was kid we had a cat named Junior–He had a run-in with a Bobcat, and had only 3 legs.
At Christmas Time his favorite spot was in the Christmas Tree.

My uncle was one of the lucky ones who got to ring bells as an altar boy.
Up until one fateful day, while during the Mass, he happened to be at the top of the stairs and dropped the bells, which hit the steps, ringing all the way down. My uncle’s job as an altar boy was pretty much finished at that point! 🙂

Luke 1:1 “…many have taken in hand to set…in order…those things…most surely…” We worked hard to ensure accuracy.
Luke 1:2 “…delivered unto us…eyewitnesses, and ministers...” Straight from the people who witnessed these events.
Luke 1:3 “...perfect understanding of all things…” A “perfect understanding”. We must believe Luke’s record of events.
Luke 1:4 “That thou mightest know the certainty of those things...” Luke wants all of us to “perfectly understand” as well.
Luke 1:5 “…in the days of Herod…a priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: his wife of the daughters of Aaron…her name was Elisabeth.” Luke makes clear for us, both were Levites, the bloodlines of the Priests (aka of the Priestline).
Background: “course of Abia” [Greek N.T. Abia / Hebrew O.T. Abijah] identifies priesthood. Each Priest served 2 ‘courses’ per year. 24 total courses of 1 week each, times 2 courses = 48 weeks. PLUS 1 week for Feast of Tabernacles, 1 week for Pentacost, and 2 weeks for Passover for a total of 52 weeks. Calendar year starts on the 1st day of Spring ensuring accuracy. GOD‘s calendar based on the Sun [solar] never changes, Satan’s, based on the Moon [lunar, lunatic] changes every year.
1st Chronicles 24:1 “…these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron…” “divisions” = courses, identified and scheduled.
1st Chronicles 24:10 “...the eighth to Abijah.” Abia’s placement & rotation in the 24 week cycle. All of Chronicles should be studied and absorbed, but this helps us understand the Priest’s responsiblities to work in the Temple of GOD.
Eight in Biblical numerics = ‘New Beginnings’. Affirms our renewal through Christ, and indicates which course applied.
Abijah/Abia’s two rotations on a Gregorian [modern] calendar; 1st. June 13th – 19th. 2nd. December 6th – 12th.
Returning to Luke 1;
Luke 1:6 “…both righteous before God…” God loved both Elisabeth & Zacharias for their service and loyalty to Him.
Luke 1:7 “...they had no child…both were…well stricken in years...” Elisabeth was 90, Zacharias was 99.
Luke 1:8 “...while he executed the priest’s office before God…in the order of his course,” June 13th – June 19th.
Luke 1:11 “...there appeared unto him an angel of the LORD...” A Divine messenger with a personal message.
Luke 1:13 “...the angel said…”Fear not Zacharias…thy wife Elizabeth shall bear…a son…call his name John.”
GOD named John the Baptist, not his father Zacharias, as was tradition.
Luke 1:14 “...many shall rejoice at his birth.” John the Baptist was loved by virtually all who knew him.
Luke 1:15 “…he shall be great in the sight of the LORD…” He did great works baptising many before Jesus ‘arrived’.
Luke 1:17 “…he shall go before Him…to make ready a people…for the LORD.” He’ll preach the coming of The Messiah.
Luke 1:18 “...I am an old man…my wife well stricken in years...” Zacharias found all of this hard to believe.
Luke 1:19 “...I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of GOD…sent…to shew thee these glad tidings.” Believe It!
Luke 1:20 “...thou shalt…not be able to speak until the day…” Since you doubt GOD, you will be silent 9 months!
Luke 1:23 “…as soon as…his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.” Zach would’ve traveled, after the Sabbath, the morning of June 20th, he was almost 100 and he had to go at least 30 miles to get home. Call it the 23rd.
Luke 1:24 “...Elisabeth conceived, and hid…five months...” After Zacharias returned home [probably pretty tired for an old dude], Elisabeth may have conceived on June 24th, places the date [5 months later] at November 24th. She hid out, she was embarassed to be pregnant at 90 years old! Bet ol’ Zach wasn’t, but he couldn’t brag because he was dumb! Silly men.
Luke 1:26 “...in the sixth month…Gabriel was sent from God…unto…Nazareth,” 1 month later on December 24th, a 2nd Divine visitation, with another personal message, to yet another who was loved by God.
Luke 1:27 “To a virgin espoused to…Joseph…and the virgin’s name was Mary.” Engaged, not yet married.
Luke 1:28 “...the angel…said…thou art highly favoured…blessed art thou among women.” You rock Girl!
Luke 1:31 “...behold, thou shalt conceive…and bring forth a Son…call His name JESUS.” Today, GOD has blessed you above all women! Again GOD named this Child, not Joseph the step-father of Jesus [after they were married].
Luke 1:33 “...He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.” Jacob means all 12 tribes of Israel, [Christians] not just 1 tribe of Judah [Jews] currently in Judea, called by the secular world, “Israel”.
This Holy event was foretold 630 years earlier in Scripture.
Isaiah 7:14 “…the LORD Himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel [God with us].” The Son of GOD in the flesh, sharing the Truth of GOD‘s love for us all!
Luke 1:34 “…said Mary…”How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?”.” I’m nervous, what will the neighbors say?
Luke 1:35 “...the power of the Highest…overshadow thee…that shall be born…the Son of GOD.‘” We got this covered!
Luke 1:36 “…thy cousin Elisabeth…conceived…this is the sixth month with her…” Crash at your cousin’s, she has cable!
Mary conceived before her time [she was a young virgin], Elisabeth conceived after her time [she was 90 yrs old].
Jeremiah 32:17 “…Lord God! behold, Thou hast made the heaven and the earth…there is nothing too hard for Thee.”
Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Believe this; ‘the Truth shall make you free‘. John 8:32
Luke 1:39 “And Mary arose…and went with haste into a city of Juda.” Next morning 25th, [dates change at sunset] she booked it outa’ there before the neighbors knew. She was perfectly innocent, but you know…people gonna’ talk… Phfftt!
Luke 1:40 “...entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.” Yo’ Cuz! What’s up? Wait’ll you hear this!
Luke 1:41 “...when Elisabeth heard…Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit…”
Luke 1:44 “…as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded…the babe leaped in my womb for joy.” John was psyched!
‘John the Baptist’ [unborn and only 6 months since conception] leapt in Elisabeth’s womb, at the presence of the Holy Spirit of JESUS Who was only just conceived in Mary’s womb! Who wouldn’t leap for joy at His Presence?!
Luke 1:46 “...Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,” Mary was rightfully proud of her love for the LORD!
Luke 1:47 “...my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” She acknowledged the Scripture foretold & fulfilled.
Luke 1:48 “...all generations shall call me blessed.” We do! We can’t do anything without mothers! She was Jesus’ mom!
So is there anything wrong with celebrating the birth of our Saviour on December 25th? Of course not! How about a tree, is that OK? Of course! We don’t worship the tree, it represents our Father’s Love and His sacrifice of His only begotten Son for our salvation. Our Heavenly Father explains His love for us through the tree symbolism in Hosea.
Hosea 14:8 “…I am like a green fir tree. From Me is thy fruit found.” An evergreen fir tree represents His eternal Love
Hosea 14:9 “Who is wise, and shall understand these things? …for the ways of the LORD are right...”
Why do the leftists hate Christmas? Why do they hate babies and want to murder them, ripping them from the womb of their mother? Even to the point of dissecting babies while still alive, and without humane benefit of anesthetics? How evil are those people?! Luke through his written testimony helps us understand. If they admitted God’s Word was true, they would have to admit life begins at the moment of conception, precisely as GOD explained. At that very instant [conception] He placed the spirit He chose to come forth from that mother’s womb. The spirit lives in that body until the flesh body dies.
Putting aside any biases taught by religions, we rely on GOD given, common sense. Why did Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem? By Roman Law, people had to go to their birth city for a census once every 10 years. Rome didn’t schedule this event in the winter months, people would have too much difficulty traveling wet, muddy, snowy roads. They wouldn’t be able to carry enough provisions for winter, there wasn’t a Motel 6 and a Cracker Barrel every few miles. And Enterprize rent-a-donkey was years away! And Mary already in her 9th month? She wouldn’t want to make the trip in Winter! But in Summer, sure. Travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem was approximately 70 miles over rural roads, not advised in the winter months. GOD‘s Word documents a common sense explanation that this was exactly the case.
Luke 2:8 “there were…shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.” Shepherds don’t camp out in the winter, how will their flocks survive? They can’t scratch through snow and ice just to eat stubble. Everything has been harvested and stored in the barns. But in the summer months, let’s camp, baby! We can keep the flocks safe, watch the night sky, maybe even see the Star of Bethlehem! At least 3 shepherds did exactly that!
Was our Lord & Saviour born on December 25th? More likely conceived on December 25th and born on September 29th, the 1st day of the Feast of Tabernacles, then circumcised on the 8th day. A perfect human gestation is 280 days. God’s Plan is perfection! Does it really matter which date? Not for those that keep Jesus Christ in our lives every day, 24/7/365. Perhaps records were changed to reflect other ‘intents and purposes‘? Each must discern our personal beliefs and live accordingly. We should choose teachers wisely, but always believe GOD‘s written Word, it comes to pass exactly as written.
It also sure doesn’t hurt to teach children, “Your sister/brother is alive in Mommy’s belly but they’re still growing and not big enough to come out and see you just yet. Wait a little longer, OK?” If it’s good enough for GOD‘s teaching, it should be good enough for us! Then maybe they won’t agree to killing any babies when they reach adulthood. We pray for them all.
Sundance often states, “The truth has no agenda“. What is unstated, but also understood, “… deception always does“.
2nd Peter 1:16 “...we have not followed cunningly devised fables…but were eyewitnesses…”
2nd Peter 2:1 “…there shall be false teachers among you…and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
We all encounter choices in life. Do we want to believe what Luke wrote through Divine Inspiration as a testament to what many had witnessed? Or do we want to believe the traditions of man, taught by churches and “false teachers” who don’t understand GOD‘s written Word? Free will means our choice. Truth helps us explain the Christmas message to others.
Jeremiah 3:15 “I will give… pastors according to Mine heart, which shall feed…knowledge and understanding.”
2nd Tim. 3:15 “… from a child thou hast known…Scriptures…make thee wise…” Many have known there is much more to GOD‘s Word than is commonly taught. If any are confused, it’s man’s fault, never GOD‘s.
1st Corinthians 14:33 “…God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” Peace of mind, understanding His Word.
Matthew 11:15 “He that has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Wikipedia defines The Parting Glass as a ” . . . a Scottish [and Irish] traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends.” Versions of the song existed as long ago as 1605 or so. There are a number of good versions on Youtube but the one I like most is by the Face Vocal band which I regularly post here.
As I began posting The Parting Glass on Sundays it seemed to me that what I was doing was providing a closure for the Open Thread weekly activities. It was a short step to see that the Parting Glass was actually serving as a kind of benediction for us all. Well, since benedictions are often connected to religious activities could it be possible what what were creating here on the Treehouse Open Thread had become . . . a church?
Have we created the Treehouse Church? Betsy and I talked about whether or not we had a Treehouse Church and I found myself agreeing with her logic. As she describes things, churches are gatherings of people who share religious beliefs. One of the best things about our Open Thread is how easily, how freely religious discussions can take place here. We tend to be an unpretentious yet strong believing bunch of Christians here. At any time people can share their beliefs with us and know that they will be accepted by our community.
So, do we have a Treehouse Church? Is the Parting Glass our Sunday benediction? I sincerely hope so. I hope so because being able to so casually discuss our collective love for Our Lord is an increasingly rare thing on the ‘net. i think—I hope—Our Lord approves of what we are doing.
I think what we have here is something that is very special. I know absolutely that Our Lord loves us and watches over us. When we gather here I am convinced that He is with us. Whether you want to call the Open Thread a church or not is clearly up to you. What’s really important, however, is that over time we’ve created a space where Our Lord is honored, where his presence among us is welcomed, and where—if you wait for it—His loving grace will be shred with us.
I hope everyone here has a wonderful, blessed Sunday, and a wonderful and blessed Christmas. Sunday morning I’m meeting two old friends for a Sunday breakfast. Then I’m going to ask if I can accompany them to their church’s Christmas Sunday. Be well, and be blessed, Treeper friends.

Garrison, I found myself thinking of The Parting Glass yesterday as I replied to someone elsewhere. And for some reason, it stayed with me even as I was trying to go to sleep. You know that I consider it a benediction and always have ever since I heard it first through you. And every time I listen to it, I hear more in it.
It was just a small step for me to view our branch as a church, not in the sense we all think of one, but in a deeper way. A more spiritual Christ connected way.
And as the last two years have sorrowfully exposed too many of our churches for pastoral abrogation when they were needed oh so much, there has always been amongst us here that deep spiritual connection through postings of Scripture, music, support, advice, prayer, devotionals, and (for me) a certain knowledge that as we are more than two or three, Almighty God is surely here as well. Friends who, again for me, I consider my church family. Is there anything more wonderful than that?
The Light connects us all, and I am so grateful…for Him, for you Garrison…and for all who occupy the pews in this beautiful church of ours. May He abide with us always.🙏🌲

While many criticize him, we felt after it was finished that his mother would have been very pleased. It was beautifully done, the message and his delivery of it perfect. We nodded to one another in approval.
Big shoes to fill for this message, for which everyone in Britain stops, including us when we were there. He filled them.

It’s Christmas and a great joy for all Christians, so I don’t really want to get “heavy”, but I always wince when I see memes projecting Satan (the evil one) as some kind of super scary drool drooping vicious monster, guaranteed to have every child sleepless for years. The truth is “Satan” or more accurately the evil inclination (which exists in all of us) is way, way more “presentable”, even beautiful, desirable and most often something we’d gladly accept – IF we were not aware to “it’s” presence (which is again in us all the time) – every moment feeding us with lies, making us doubt ourselves, constantly comparing, judging, breaking our spirit of love and kindness. You see the evil inclination does not care HOW, as long as it attains its goal – to make us give up, to surrender to this world – the world of lie.

His Birth in History. “…that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35). Jesus Christ was born into this world, not from it. He did not emerge out of history; He came into history from the outside. Jesus Christ is not the best human being the human race can boast of— He is a Being for whom the human race can take no credit at all. He is not man becoming God, but God Incarnate— God coming into human flesh from outside it. His life is the highest and the holiest entering through the most humble of doors. Our Lord’s birth was an advent— the appearance of God in human form.
His Birth in Me. “My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you…” (Galatians 4:19). And once “Christ is formed” in me, His nature immediately begins to work through me.

Current temperature here at my central Indiana home is 5 deg with a windchill of -14.
Santa had a colder than usual ride through our area last night.
Joe Bastardi is saying that after this nice warm up coming the first part of January, Old man winter will settle in again later that month. At this time it is looking more likely that what will come then will be below average temps for the time of year but not a severe polar blast like we have had this time. Another so called “bomb cyclone” is possible but Joe is not sanguine, as he was forecasting this one.
But out on the left coast your drought relief is on the way in many places. It is going to be very wet. Mudslide wet, in many places. Rose Bowl Parade and Game are liable to be very wet.
Here in the south/central San Joaquin Valley we may get over 4″!!! That’s half of our normal yearly rainfall total.

I suffer from a depression that hits around this time every year. It has always been a battle and I always survive. The hymns of Christmas knock a bit of the edge off, but I find myself consoling myself with a good sad song. If I am going to be depressed, might as go there with friends. This is one of my favorites. I have lost most of my hearing, so not much enjoyment of the music anymore, but I can read the lyrics of songs I know and my brain plays the music that only I can hear. Ended up ordering music. I have been to several concerts and they never disappoint. I still go to concerts when they are close, but it is not the same with my hearing loss. I became familiar with this brilliant and eloquent man, who was an astute observer of the human condition decades ago when I was living abroad and he wrote them for The Telegraph in the UK. Love that! And I want to reach that standard as well. When rudeness or unkindness encroaches on me, just LET IT BE.
I can only imagine what it was like to be a “prison psychiatrist!”
His articles on his experiences in those prisons were insightful and brutal. He was dealing with people who had no moral core at all. And he diagnosed that it was in great part a function of the soulless housing estates they were all shoved into with similar people after the war. It made sense to me…although he was far more eloquent and thoughtful in describing his analysis.
And yes, I agree with th quote you posted for on the article completely. “Let it go” is my mantra when I face rudeness.
But I always think first what is going on in such a person’s life that I don’t know about that may be causing this rudeness. I try to break throughby doing Tue opposite..smile always, friendliness, etc…you know. Sometimes it works, sometimes not…at which point I do let it go. That’s all we can do.

It’s still bitter outside here in Central Indiana but the sunshine is brilliant. Been more than week since we have seen it clear like this. Fired up the fireplace insert. Sherry is under the weather with a bad cold and so will be staying home and not going to Dads. She will tend the fire and watch the animals.

Gosh, rah…I am sorry for her. There is never a good time for illness, but at Christmas? She knows what to do…all the supplements, including black elderberry if you can get some, which has been shown to cut the duration of what she has dramatically. Syrup or gummies. We take it every day to ward off those awful viruses.

By a strange coincidence, I happened to discover it in the fall of 2019 and started taking it daily. Then while I was working as a contractor around Thanksgiving, two co-workers younger than me both came down real sick … each one had to take 4 sick days, and both described it as “worst flu ever in their lives, all they could do was lay on the couch and cough.”
I suspect it was Covid. The miracle was that I sat right next to them at work, including in meetings in a small room with no windows or ventilation … and I didn’t get sick. I think that was due to the grace of God and the elderberry syrup.
Have also learned that if you take both elderberry syrup and colloidal silver (I like the Sovereign Silver brand) … it seems to be really effective at fighting off sore throats and oncoming illness, much like the Vitamin D3, C, quercetin, and zinc combination.
